"Freak"

Original Air Date on February 15th, 2007

[ Chloe and Lana are at Smallville Lanes, as Lana steps up to bowl. When she does, her ball immediately veers off to the right, straight into the gutter. She turns around, looking embarassed. ]

Lana: Okay, so maybe bowling isn't my calling, but it is one of the last doctor-approved exercises left.

Chloe: Look, Lana, I love bowling gutter balls just as much as the next girl, but I've got to admit ... I expected something a little different for the bachelorette party.

[ Chloe steps up to bowl and her ball doesn't fair much better - another gutterball. Lana looks on and smiles. ]

Lana: I know I could have invited a bunch of girls and gone out in a limo for a night on the town, but this is so much more special.

Chloe: Yeah ... eating chili fries and knocking down pins.

Lana: With my best friend ... like we used to, one last time.

Chloe: Lana, you're getting married. You're not moving to Antarctica.

Lana: I'm also having a baby. And I have a feeling that these girls' nights out are gonna be a lot harder to come by.

Chloe: I wouldn't be so sure. But just in case, let's document the night.

[ Chloe picks up her digital camera. ]

Lana: Okay. All right.

Chloe: Ready?

Lana: Yes.

[ Chloe looks at the picture on her camera. ]

Chloe: Cute.

[ As they take pictures, a bowling alley employee, Daniel Kim, watches them from the lobby. ]

Chloe: Yay! One last picture of Lana Lang before she becomes Lana Luthor.

Lana: Wow, that's pretty weird.

[ Daniel walks up behind them. ]

Daniel Kim: Excuse me. I couldn't help but notice your form was perfect, but your wrist is a little off. You think I could give you a pointer?

Chloe: Who's gonna man the shoe fort?

Daniel Kim: I could care less. My shift's over, anyways. [ He stands behind her, directing her ] Here.

Lana: All right.

Daniel Kim: Okay, you're gonna point the inside of your elbow straight down that lane.

Lana: Okay, I'll try, but don't sign me up for the pro-bowling league just yet.

Daniel Kim: Oh, trust me. I've got the magic touch.

[ She throws the ball and it looks like its going to veer off into the gutter but Daniel gives it a hard stare and it curves back into the center pin, knocking them all down for a strike. ]

Lana: All right.

Lana: Oh, my God! I did it!

Chloe: Wow. Nice tip. But it's the last frame. You get to go again.

Lana: Cool.

Daniel Kim: Remember what I said.

Lana: Okay.

[ She bowls again, and this time Daniel's help leaves one pin standing. He gives the pin a second hard stare and it falls over, all on its own. Chloe notices this last, and looks at him suspiciously. ]

Lana: Aah! Oh, yeah!

Chloe: All right! Good job, Lana.

Daniel Kim: Why don't you give me your number, and I'll share a few more tips?

[ She holds up hand with the enormous engagement ring on it. ]

Lana: I'm not sure that my fiancé would approve.

Daniel Kim: Ah, yeah. Probably not.

Lana: Thank you.

[ He walks away, looking dejected. ]

Chloe: C'mon Chloe, how about more pictures.

[ Chloe watches him walk away, looking at warily. ]

[ Behind them, in the lobby of the bowling alley, a man walks in escorting a young man with glasses who is blind. ]

Tobias: Why here?

Dr. Bethany: Bowling alleys always attract big crowds. Okay, Tobias, it's time to take them off.

Tobias: Only for a second.

Dr. Bethany: I know it hurts.

[ Tobias takes off his glasses, and we see his perspective as the whole scene turns psychadelic colors. Amongst the swirling colors, a darker shape can be see - it is the figure of Daniel Kim walking by. ]

Tobias: [ Groans ]There's one right there.

[ Tobias points at Daniel after he's walked past them. ]

[ Daniel walks out the rear door of the bowling alley. He opens up a pint of beer, then turns around to find a man standing behing him. Before he can react, the man grabs Daniel and holds him until a van pulls up. At this moment, Chloe emerges from the back door of the alley in time to see Daniel struggling against the man trying to throw him into the van. ]

Chloe: Hey! Hey!

Daniel Kim: Help!

Chloe: Hey!

Daniel Kim: Help! Ugh! Ow!

[ The man throw him into the van and, seeing Chloe, race towards her. She turns to run, diving out of the alley and out of the path of the van at the last second, landing hard on the ground. ]

Chloe: Ugh! [ Breathes heavily ]

[ Clark breaks opens the doors to the bowling alley and he and Chloe walk inside. ]

Chloe: I can't believe there isn't even a skid mark outside.

Clark: Maybe there's a clue in here. You're sure this guy was Krypto-powered?

Chloe: Clark, there was one pin standing, and then ... boom! ... it fell all by itself.

Clark: Huh ... that would give someone a good reason to kidnap a bowling-alley employee. Did Lana see the abduction?

Chloe: No ... speaking of which, with the wedding of the century coming up, are you gonna be renting a tux next weekend or a dvd?

Clark: Chloe, what possible reason would I have to watch them get married?

Chloe: Maybe because if you showed up, it would send a message that you're actually moving on ... you know, to Lana, to Lex ... more importantly, to yourself.

Clark: So, what does this guy look like ... your bowling buddy?

Chloe: Uh, he's Asian, about 6 feet tall, with an earring in his left ear.

Clark: You mean like that guy?

[ Clark sees Daniel Kim walking in the lobby of the bowling. He notices them standing there and runs over. ]

Daniel Kim: Hey! What are you doing? We're closed.

Chloe: What happened to you last night?

[ Daniel clearly doesn't remember the previous night. ]

Daniel Kim: Ohh, did ... did you and me ... did we ... did we hook up?

Chloe: Uh, no, you were thrown in the back of a van by men in black.

Daniel Kim: Damn. I thought I drank a lot last night.

Clark: You're sure you don't remember getting thrown in the back of that van?

Daniel Kim: I don't remember anything. I figured I just blacked out. It was Saturday night. I wasn't driving, so I cracked open a pint. Next thing I know, I'm waking up in bed like any other morning.

[ Lex is trying on his tuxedo for the wedding with his tailor. ]

Lex: Is it me, or do I look like a waiter serving high tea?

Lana: You look like the most handsome groom in the world.

Lex: Good answer. [ To the tailor ] Questo è perfetto.

Tailor: Grazie. [ He leaves ]

Lex: About last night ... why did Chloe go outside in the middle of your bachelorette party?

Lana: She said she needed some air.

[ He looks at her, skeptical. ]

Lex: In the back alley? Why not go out front like everyone else?

Lana: Lex, you seem a little obsessed with the details.

Lex: She's your maid of honor, and she almost got run over. Lana, I wouldn't want anything to happen to her.

[ She doesn't seem convinced at this explanation, but Dr. Bethany walks into the study and she decides to drop it. She leaves them alone. ]

Lana: Neither would I. I'll see you at dinner. [ She leaves ]

Lex: Dr. Bethany, did we have an appointment?

Dr. Bethany: The boy is growing impatient. He keeps asking when the surgery is.

Lex: Well, tell him corneas don't grow on trees.

Dr. Bethany: He's blind, Mr. Luthor, not stupid. I'm afraid if we keep stalling, he'll start talking.

Lex: You were the one who warned me that a cornea transplant would most likely take away his abilities.

Dr. Bethany: If he tells anyone what we're doing, my career is as good as over. I'm the one on the line here.

Lex: Think of your wife, doctor. If we could have tracked these subjects a year ago, she might never have been m*rder*d.

Dr. Bethany: Don't pretend you care about crime, Mr. Luthor. I know about your meteor-rock research.

Lex: I've been victimized by these people, just like you have. Tell Tobias to be patient.

Chloe: Daniel may not be the only one. Last week a mother called 911, complaining that her son disappeared in the middle of the night. But when he showed up in bedthe next morning, safe and sound, there was no case. Son's name ... Brian Osborne, also on the Wall of Weird ... suspected clairvoyant.

Clark: So people with meteor powers are being abducted.

Chloe: And then released with a memory wipe that reaches back before the abduction.

Clark: The question is what's happening to them on their big night out?

Chloe: I'm guessing not a pajama party.

Clark: Considering Lex's history with 33.1, I bet he's behind this.

Chloe: That wouldn't be a shocker. But this is the only clue I have.

[ She shows him a photo from their bowling night. It is a picture of Lana but in the background, you can see Tobias pointing at Daniel Kim, just passing by. ]

Clark: That's you and Lana having the time of your lives. That's great.

Chloe: Be patient. See? That's Tobias Rice. He was blinded in the last meteor shower, and he's pointing directly at Daniel. Why would a blind person point at someone?

[ Chloe and Clark are invited into the home of Tobias Rice. ]

Tobias Rice: Come on in, guys. It's nice to hear a familiar voice.

Clark: Tobias, I'm sorry about what happened to you.

Tobias Rice: Hey,I got off lucky ... my parents, not so much. Can I get you guys something to drink? How about an iced tea? Don't make me drink alone.

Clark: Sure, I'll have a glass. Thanks.

Chloe: Tobias, you were at Smallville Lanes last night, weren't you?

Tobias Rice: You sound surprised.

Chloe: You were pointing at someone, someone named ...

Tobias Rice: I hate to break it to you, but in my condition, I'm not doing too much pointing these days. Hopefully that'll change. I'm on this waiting list for a cornea transplant.

[ Tobias is searching for a glass by feel and one of the glasses looks like it will fall from the cabinet. ]

Clark: Hey, let me help you with that.

Tobias Rice: No, I can handle it.

[ The glass falls and Clark superspeeds to catch it. When he does, he bumps into Tobias, knocking his glasses off and he immediately begins to groan in pain. ]

Tobias: Aah.

Clark: Tobias, I'm sorry. The glass almost hit the ground.

Chloe: Are you all right, Tobias?

Tobias Rice: I'm fine. It's just, when my glasses are off, I get these raging headaches from the light. Please just go.

[ They leave his house. ]

Chloe: Call me crazy, but it was almost like he saw something.

Clark: That's what worries me.

[ Clark uses his superhearing to listen in on a phone call that Tobias has just made. ]

Dr. Bethany: [ On the phone ] I told you not to call me. This had better be important, Tobias.

Tobias Rice: [ On the phone ] It is. Dr. Bethany ... I found another one.

Dr. Bethany: [ On the phone ] I'm at the hospital now. We'll deal with this later.

Chloe: Jimmy, okay, you win. You can come over tonight. But I'm warning you ... I have a deadline. [ Chuckles ] Yeah, I like you a lot, too. Bye.

[ She turns to climb the stairs to her apartment and sees Lana there. ]

Chloe: Hey. Late-night nuptial emergency?

Lana: This isn't about the wedding. I was just wondering ... did you really go outside for fresh air last night, or was there another reason?

[ Chloe looks at her uneasily, then immediately comes up with an explanation. ]

Chloe: All right, I admit it. I was worried that he was another Lana Lang stalker. But listen ... I got my bridesmaid's dress, and you have amazing taste.

[ Lana is unconvinced. ]

Lana: Why do I get the feeling that you're seriously sidestepping any discussion about that abduction? You think Lex had something to do with this, don't you?

[ Chloe is uncomfortable talking about her and Clark's suspicions about Lex but Lana is clearly on the right track and Chloe doesn't want to lie to her. ]

Chloe: Let's just say it wouldn't be a huge leap, considering Dan the Man has a meteor power. It turns out that his bowling tips came with an added advantage ... telekinesis ... and I think that's why he was abducted.

Lana: But you and I both know that just because someone has an ability doesn't make them a bad person. Some of these people might use their powers to save people.

[ Lana is clearly talking about Clark, but Chloe doesn't let on that she knows what Lana is implying. ]

Chloe: Okay, I don't know who you're talking about, but the meteor freaks that I've met aren't exactly in line to win a Nobel Peace Prize.

Lana: These people don't advertise their abilities. Whoever did this ... how did they figure out who to abduct?

Chloe: There's a kid who went to Smallville High who was blinded in the last meteor shower, and now he has the ability to identify meteor freaks.

[ Lana seems shocked by this. ]

Lana: What's his name?

Nurse: Thank you, Dr. Bethany.

[ Clark walks into an office at the hospital to find Dr. Bethany. ]

Clark: Dr. Bethany.

Dr. Bethany: Yes. Can I help you?

Clark: I'm friends with Tobias Rice. He called you today.

Dr. Bethany: He's a patient of mine.

Clark: Tobias said, "I found another one." I'm not sure what that meant, but I'm worried about him.

[ Dr. Bethany is clearly uneasy about this, but tries not let on his discomfort. ]

Dr. Bethany: Well, I'm glad that Tobias has such caring friends. But anything said between my patients and myself is strictly confidential.

Clark: What about Daniel Kim? Is he a patient of yours?

Dr. Bethany: I've never heard of him.

Nurse: Ah, Dr. Bethany, I have something for you to sign here.

Dr. Bethany: Alright, just a moment. Oh good the requisitions. Just let me get my ...

[ Clark uses his super breath to blow the papers from out of the nurse's hands and they fall all over the ground. Then as the doctor turns around, Clark superspeeds from the room, grabbing the doctor's laptop computer as he does, then superspeeds back into the same spot he was standing, looking on patiently. ]

Nurse: I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened.

[ The doctor turns back to the desk and sees his laptop is missing. ]

Dr. Bethany: Where is it?

Clark: [ Looking confused ] Where's what?

Dr. Bethany: My computer. You took it, didn't you?

[ Clark looks at him innocently, then walks from the room. He passes a cart outside and grabs the laptop from beneath a towel where he'd hidden it and keeps walking. ]

Clark: Chloe?

[ As Clark enters the apartment, Jimmy jumps up, obviously distressed. ]

Jimmy: Clark, please tell me you know where Chloe is.

Clark: [ Surprised ] She's not here?

Jimmy: No, I can't find her anywhere, and to tell you the truth, I'm starting to freak out a little bit. She's not answering her cellphone and she always answers it ...

Clark: Wait. Calm down. When was the last time you saw her?

Jimmy: Uh ... it was at ... at the Planet this morning. She's on a deadline. She's supposed to be here working.

Clark: All right, well, if she's under a deadline, she's probably out researching her story.

Jimmy: On the downtown parking meters? I don't think so. Look, I swear, Clark, if anything happens to her ...

Clark: Jimmy, take this computer. See if you can break into its files.

Jimmy: Chloe's the one with the mad techno skills. I'm just a guy with a camera and kidnapped ...

[ Jimmy turns around and Clark speeds out of the apartment. ]

Jimmy: ... girlfriend. [ He looks around, confused ]

[ Clark has entered the home of Tobias Rice. ]

Clark: Where is Dr. Bethany?

Tobias: Clark? How did you get in here?

Clark: He's not at the hospital, and he's not answering his pages. Where is he?

Tobias: How am I supposed to know?

Clark: He kidnapped Chloe. He took my friend. Now, where is he?

Tobias: Kidnapped? I don't understand.

[ Clark is trying to maintain his patience, and failing. ]

Clark: Tobias ... don't lie to me.

Tobias: He said he was helping people.

Clark: He's not gonna help Chloe, Tobias. She's a witness. God knows what he'll do to her.

Tobias: Look, if he took her, it's not because she's a witness.

Clark: He's trying to lure me in.

[ Tobias looks at him, confused. ]

Tobias: You? Why would he want to do that?

[ Clark doesn't want to answer and changes the subject back to Chloe. ]

Clark: Why would he take Chloe?

Tobias: You ... you guys are such close friends that I thought you knew.

Clark: Knew what?

Tobias: She's meteor-infected, Clark.

[ In a laboratory, Chloe has been strapped down to a large examination table, unable to move. Her eyes dart back and forth at the doctors hovering over and around her, and her mouth is held open as if in a perpetual scream by metal instruments. Terrified, there is nowhere for her to go. ]

Doctors: Blood iron levels?

Doctors: 225.

Doctors: Copper, cadmium, and chloride all high.

Doctors: The clock is ticking. Let's not waste time.

Doctors: Erythrocyte and leukocyte counts confirmed. Initializing full-body spectral scan.

[ A green beam scans up and down her body, centering finally on her abdomen. ]

Chloe: Ugh.

Doctors: Scanning in progress. Vertical asymptote at "X." Preparing for DNA extraction.

Doctors: Proceed.

[ One of the doctors inserts a huge needle into her abdomen as she screams in pain. ]

Lex: Hello, beautiful. How are the two of you doing this morning?

Lana: We're both doing just fine. Lex, have you ever heard of Tobias Rice?

Lex: No. Why?

Lana: Well, I ran into him in the bowling alley. We went to school together. He lost his vision in the meteor shower, and now he has this ability to sense meteor-infected people.

Lex: That's intriguing, but why do you think I'd know him?

[ Lana isn't sure whether to believe him or not, but presses him anyway. ]

Lana: Because I know what kinds of things you're interested in, and meteor powers are high on the list.

Lex: Maybe so, but in this case, I'm afraid I'm in the dark. I've never heard of your friend. I'm sorry.

[ Lana is clearly unconvinced now, though she tries hard not to let her suspicion show. ]

[ Clark walks into the Talon to find Jimmy hanging up a Missing poster with Chloe's picture on it. ]

Clark: Jimmy, any luck with the computer?

Jimmy: I tried every trick I know, but I'm an amateur in the encryption game. Look, what about the doctor? What did he say?

Clark: He's nowhere to be found.

[ As he says this, Jimmy's panic grows visibly. ]

Jimmy: What if she really is gone, Clark? I've never met anyone like Chloe Sullivan, and I never will. And you know what the most pathetic part is? Is that ... is that I was so busy playing it cool that ... I never got to tell her how I really, truly feel.

[ Chloe walks up behind them as they're speaking. ]

Chloe: Well, now's your chance.

Jimmy: Chloe. You're back.

[ Jimmy runs to give her a huge hug. ]

Chloe: Jimmy, easy with the anaconda squeeze.

Jimmy: I'm sorry. I-I just can't believe that you're standing here.

[ Chloe is confused at his behavior - she has no memory of her abduction. ]

Chloe: Why? I live upstairs.

Clark: Chloe, you were abducted last night.

[ Clark motions to the Missing poster on the pillar. ]

Chloe: Oh, my God.

Jimmy: You don't remember?

Chloe: The last thing I remember is going to sleep, and then I woke up in my bed. I don't understand. Why did they take me?

Jimmy: Because you're a witness. They want to shut you up.

Chloe: No, if that was the case, they wouldn't have released me.

Clark: Maybe they just wanted to scare you.

[ Clark doesn't like where this discussion is headed and decides to enlist Chloe's help with the computer, changing the subject. ]

Clark: Look, Chloe, I'm just glad that you're back, all right? And we have Bethany's laptop, but all the files are encrypted. Maybe you can pull off a miracle.

Lex: If you've come here with more of the blind kid's complaints, they're gonna fall on deaf ears.

Dr. Bethany: No, this has nothing to do with Tobias. I don't know how else to say this, except that sensitive information about our project has been ... misplaced.

[ Lex chuckles at this, but his stare at the doctor is utterly devoid of humor. ]

Lex: Glasses are misplaced, car keys ... [ Bitterly ] not classified information.

Dr. Bethany: Oh, I know. It seems that my laptop was somehow stolen. On it are files that would not only ... jeopardize our project, but obliterate my medical career in the process.

Lex: Sounds like a real blunder, doctor. For your sake, I hope it hasn't gotten into the wrong hands.

Dr. Bethany: For both our sakes.

[ Lex gets up quickly from his chair, standing toe-to-toe with the doctor. ]

Lex: No. I have nothing to do with you or your research. Remember, doctor? That was our agreement.

Dr. Bethany: I understand. But it's more than likely that there is some mention of Luthorcorp.

Lex: Then you give me no choice.

Dr. Bethany: What are you implying?

Lex: I don't tolerate loose ends, doctor. Bring me Tobias ... unharmed.

[ Knock on door ]

Lana: Tobias. It's Lana Lang, from Smallville High.

Tobias: I haven't talked to this many Crows since graduation. Come on in.

Lana: I know about your ability Tobias.

Tobias: I wouldn't call blindness an ability.

Lana: I know that you're identifying people, people who are different, but you have to stop. Whoever's put you up to this is exploiting your powers.

Tobias: I don't know what you're talking about.

Lana: I have money. I can put you on a plane. We can get you far away from here.

Tobias: I'm not going anywhere. I'm in line for a cornea transplant.

Lana: Okay, then you can get the surgery somewhere else, where there aren't any strings attached. I'll make sure of it.

Tobias: Why would you do that for me?

Lana: Because you may be putting someone at risk who saves people's lives on practically a daily basis. I can't let that happen.

Tobias: Who told you about me ... Clark Kent?

[ She is genuinely surprised by this. ]

Lana: Clark was here?

Tobias: You seem surprised.

Lana: Did you tell anyone about him?

Tobias: What's to tell?

Lana: Tobias, it's okay. You can trust me. I know that Clark's infected.

Tobias: You must be talking about a different Clark Kent, because the Clark I know is the most normal guy I've ever met.

Chloe: The files are barricaded. But in every wall there's a door somewhere. What's more impenetrable is the way you keep staring at me. [ She turns to face him ] Do I have something on my face?

Clark: [ Uneasily ] No. I'm just relieved, we were all really worried about you.

[ Clark is avoiding her eyes. ]

Chloe: Nice try, Clark. Cough it up.

Clark: Cough what up?

Chloe: You know the real reason why I was abducted, don't you? I'm some kind of meteor freak, aren't I?

Clark: We don't know that, Chloe.

[ Chloe taps some keys on the keyboard and her magical computer cracking utility does its thing. ]

Chloe: Well, maybe this will help demystify things for us. We're in.

Clark: That's a map of Smallville.

[ The map shows the entire Smallville area, with a small number of green dots scattered throughout. ]

Chloe: With a GPS overlay. Clark, I think Dr. Bethany is tracking meteor freaks. Now the question is why?

Clark: Maybe he's trying to observe them in their own environment.

[ Jimmy walks into the apartment, looking excited. ]

Jimmy: I just got off the phone with the Planet. Daniel Kim was k*lled in a car accident right outside Smallville Lanes 15 minutes ago.

Clark: Or someone tried to make it look like a car crash.

[ The map they are looking at beeps and one of the green dots has turned into a red 'X'. ]

Chloe: There's a new red dot on a street just outside the bowling alley. That red dot must be Daniel Kim.

[ Another beep, and another green dot turns red. ]

Clark: And a blinking green one just turned red in Granville. Chloe, they're k*lling these people one by one.

Chloe: There's a green dot in the Talon.

[ Chloe looks at Clark with growing terror. Jimmy can sense something is wrong but doesn't understand. ]

Jimmy: What's going on here? Chloe, are you okay?

Chloe: Yeah, I'm fine, Jimmy. Listen, I need you to go to the Smallville Lanes and find out everything you can about Daniel's death.

[ Chloe rushes Jimmy out the door. ]

Jimmy: I'll call you when I get there.

Chloe: Okay, thanks.

[ When Jimmy is gone, Chloe turns to him with clear panic in her eyes. ]

Chloe: Clark, I need you to X-ray me.

Clark: What?

Chloe: Clark, come on. We're both adults. Now, just do it.

[ He looks at her uneasily, then agrees. ]

Clark: Okay.

[ He scans her up and down, finding a small chip lodged into her right shoulder. ]

Clark: Um ... there, underneath your collar bone.

Chloe: What is it?

Clark: I don't know.

[ Now Chloe's panic has reached a fever pitch and she's sounding desperate. ]

Chloe: Please, Clark, I don't want to die. Just get it out of me!

[ Clark is trying to think about what to do, but Chloe is going to wait. ]

Clark: We have to get you to a hospital.

Chloe: Clark, there's something inside of me. I don't want to go to the E.R. and wait for the doctors to figure out what it's gonna do to me. How accurate is your heat vision?

[ He's shocked at her suggestion. ]

Clark: Chloe, don't even go there.

Chloe: Is it pinpoint accurate?

Clark: Chloe, I'm not gonna burn you!

Chloe: Clark, Daniel Kim is dead, and every single one of those green dots is turning red one by one. I will not be the next red dot!

[ As she says this, her terror now complete, she grabs a Kn*fe from the kitchen and puts it to her shoulder. ]

Chloe: Fine, if you're not gonna do it, then I'll just do it myself.

Clark: Chloe, wait! Just hold on a second!

Chloe: Do it.

Clark: All right. Hold on to me. You can't move.

[ He holds her shoulders tightly, then focuses on the spot in her shoulder. His heat vision burns into her skin and she screams in pain. ]

Chloe: Okay. Aah! Ugh! Ugh!

Clark: All right.

Chloe: Ahh!

Clark: I'm sorry.

Chloe: [ Still screaming ] Just get it out!

[ Clark reaches into the hole he's just made as she screams in pain again, and pulls out the tiny chip, crushing it between his fingers. ]

Clark: It's a GPS device. That's all it is.

[ The map on the computer beeps again. ]

Chloe: My green dot's gone red.

[ At Tobias' house, Lana is leading him towards the door. ]

Tobias: When we were in high school, I assumed the only thing Lana Lang cared about was lip gloss and pom-poms.

Lana: You didn't know me very well.

Tobias: Well, I'm sorry for ever thinking that.

[ Dr. Bethany is standing in the shadows of the living room. ]

Dr. Bethany: Tobias! Where are you going? What's she doing here?

Lana: He's coming with me.

Dr. Bethany: Why would he do that? I have to take him to the medical center. Tobias, the time has finally come. We're prepping you for surgery, just like I promised.

Tobias: Let me get my jacket.

Lana: Tobias, you can get this surgery somewhere else.

Tobias: It's okay, Lana.

[ Tobias reaches into the coat closet but instead of pulling out a jacket, he reaches for the circuit breaker for the house. When he throws the switch, the whole house goes black. ]

Dr. Bethany: Tobias!

[ Dr. Bethany pulls out a taser g*n and points it around the room, searching for Tobias. ]

[ Jimmy comes back to the apartment and sees the bandage on Chloe's shoulder. ]

Jimmy: What the heck did you do to my girl, Kent?

Chloe: Jimmy, there was a tracking device in me, and Clark had a pocketknife.

Clark: We improvised.

Jimmy: [ Shocked ] Improvised?

Chloe: Jimmy, it barely even stung.

[ Chloe and Clark are looking at the GPS map. ]

Chloe: There's only one green dot left, off highway 52.

Clark: Tobias.

[ Dr. Bethany pulls out a taser g*n, looking around for Tobias. ]

Dr. Bethany: Tobias! The powers that be want me to take you to them, but ... but if I do that, I'm a dead man. So if anyone asks, you just disappeared.

Lana: Please don't hurt him.

Dr. Bethany: Ah. Don't worry. This amount of voltage will stop the heart immediately. He won't feel a thing. And neither will you.

[ He points the taser at Lana, but Tobias emerges, holding a g*n of his own pointed at Dr. Bethany. ]

Tobias: But you will. [ g*n cocks ] I always thought my father had too many g*ns in the house, and now I'm glad he did.

Dr. Bethany: Tobias, what good is a g*n if you can't see?

[ The doctor looks like he's going to fire the taser at Lana, but Tobias sh**t him in the shoulder, rocking him backwards. ]

Tobias: But I can hear, and the next one's going in your heart.

[ The doctor rushes at Tobias and wrestles him to the ground. As they wrestle for control, Lana picks up the g*n lying on the floor. ]

Lana: Tobias, go! Go now!

[ Lana points the g*n at the doctor as he points the taser at Tobias. ]

Dr. Bethany: No!

Lana: Don't move! Drop it! Put it down, or I swear to God I'll pull the trigger.

Dr. Bethany: I think I'll take my chances.

[ As Lana pulls the trigger, Clark rushes into the house. In the blink of an eye, he runs past the b*llet as its flying through the air, his reflection clearly seen in the sheen of the b*llet casing, and deflects it back into a glass cabinet across the room, and shoves the doctor into the wall where he collapses in a heap. Then he steps in front of the burst of electricity from the taser, protecting Tobias. Then he speeds from the room before anyone can see that he was there. ]

Tobias: What happened?

Lana: I'm not sure. But we're safe now. Are you okay?

[ Lana turns the circuit breaker back on, lighting the room. ]

Tobias: I think so.

Lana: I'm gonna call the police.

[ She pulls out her cell phone, then notices the glass case with a b*llet hole in - a glass case that was actually behind her when she fired the sh*t. She reaches inside and pulls out the dented but intact b*llet and examines it very closely. ]

[ An officer is helping Tobias walk outside his house. ]

Officer: Do you have someone who can assist you?

[ Clark comes up behind him, offering to help. ]

Clark: I can.

Tobias: Clark?

Clark: Yeah. [ Clark takes Tobias' arm, leading him forward ] The deputies told me what happened. Are you ok?

Tobias: I should have known what was going on. I just wanted my sight back so badly I never questioned it.

Clark: It's okay. It's all over now. A friend of mine's gonna get you your operation. You'll be safe.

Tobias: Lana wanted to do the same thing for me.

[ Clark is suprised by this. ]

Clark: Lana? Why?

Tobias: She had this crazy notion that you were infected by the meteors, and she didn't want me to tell anybody else.

[ Clark is affected by this, but not really surprised. ]

Clark: Really? What did you tell her?

Tobias: The truth. That you're the most normal guy I've ever met.

[ A black sedan pulls up next to them. ]

Clark: Your ride's here.

Tobias: Thanks, Clark, for everything.

[ As the sedan pulls away, Lana is standing behind Clark. ]

Lana: Once again, fate intervenes, and lives are miraculously saved.

Clark: Yeah. The paramedics said he d*ed of a heart att*ck. That's bizarre.

Lana: What's really bizarre is this.

[ She holds up the b*llet that she fired, which is dented. ]

Lana: I fired the g*n, but the b*llet smashed into the cabinet behind me.

[ Clark looks like he's trying to find his breath. ]

Clark: It must have ricocheted.

Lana: Off of something pretty powerful.

[ From Lana's look, Clark can tell that she knows he was there, saving her once again, even if she doesn't know exactly how. ]

Clark: The important thing is that you're okay.

[ Lana can see he's not going to give in to her probing. ]

Lana: Where did Tobias go?

Clark: Star City. Oliver Queen has arranged for him to get his cornea transplant. Lana, Tobias told me what you were gonna do for me. I'm not sure where you got this idea that I was meteor-infected. I appreciate you looking out for me. It means a lot.

Lana: You know ... even if it were true, even if you were meteor-infected, it wouldn't matter. You'd still be the same Clark Kent.

[ A detective appears behind them. ]

Detective: Miss Lang, are you ready to finish your statement?

[ She gives him a long look before walking away with the detective. ]

Lex: Lana. Thank God you're all right. What were you doing at that kid's house in the first place?

Lana: I was trying to save him.

Lex: You should have come to me.

Lana: I didn't know it was gonna turn out that way. Lex, that doctor ... I saw you meeting with him.

[ Lex is caught off guard and tries to keep his cool. ]

Lex: Of course you did. I was talking to Bethany about Luthcorp's donation to the new trauma center.

Lana: So it was just a coincidence that he was here?

Lex: A sad one. Who would have ever thought that a man whose job it is to save lives would ... would do something like this?

[ Lana is unconvinced. ]

Lana: Lex, if you were involved in this, you'd tell me, wouldn't you?

Lex: Lana ... you're my bride-to-be, the mother of ...

[ Lana can see him spinning, and puts a stop to it. ]

Lana: Tell me the truth, Lex.

Lex: On the soul of my unborn child, I swear. It's the truth.

[ His lie is so sincere that she almost believes it, but as he hugs her, its clear her doubts remain from the look on her face. ]

[ Clark walks into the apartment and Chloe has a far-off look in her eyes. ]

Clark: You look dazed and confused. Are you okay?

Chloe: [ Sounding distraught ] I can't sleep. I can't work. I can't think about anything else.

Clark: You've been through a lot.

Chloe: There's a reason they took me, and we both know it's not because I was a witness. Tobias didn't identify you, Clark, because you're not a meteor freak. It was me.

Clark: Chloe, it must have been a mistake.

Chloe: How do you know that? I mean, I've been exposed to more Kryptonite than practically anyone else in this town. It's not that much of a stretch to think that I could have been infected somewhere along the way.

Clark: But you don't have any powers. [ He looks at her closely ] Do you?

Chloe: No, but that doesn't rule me out. There's a percentage of the Wall of Weird that were latent for years. They didn't exhibit any of their powers until long after their exposure.

Clark: Okay. All right, let's say it's true. But who's to say you're ever gonna develop any powers at all?

Chloe: All I know is that every single meteor freak I've ever run into has ended up either dead or in Belle Reve. Face it, Clark. I'm a walking time b*mb.

[ As she says this, her emotions surge and her panic is evident. Clark puts his hand on her arm very gently. ]

Clark: Then consider me your own personal b*mb squad.

[ Lex is sitting at his computer, reviewing video footage of Chloe, strapped to the lab table during her abduction. He speaks into a phone. ]

Lex: Regarding our most recent subject ... keep a close eye on her.
