The Doctor stands in front of the console, the regeneration energy bursting out through the sleeves and neck of his suit. After a few seconds, he turns around and directs the energy towards the hand in the jar, making it glow and bubble wildly. The energy fades away and the Doctor leans to a support, gasping, but still looking the same.
DOCTOR
Now then. Where were we?
Donna, Rose and Jack stare at him in disbelief.

Sarah Jane covers her face with her arms, waiting for the death ray.
DALEKS
Exterminate! Exterminate!
With flashes of blue light, Mickey and Jackie appear beside the car and they blast the Daleks. Sarah Jane gets out of the car, shocked.
SARAH JANE
Mickey?
MICKEY
Us Smiths gotta stick together!
JACKIE
Jackie Tyler. Rose's mum. Now where the hell is my daughter?!

Gwen and Ianto sh**t at the Dalek, raging. But they notice something strange and they cease fire. They walk forward cautiously and see their b*ll*ts hang in the air, like stopped by an invisible wall. Gwen reaches out slowly to touch it - she can't, but her finger makes a ripple in the air.
GWEN
What the hell...?

The Doctor is on his hands and knees in front of the hand in the jar, which is still glowing and bubbling.
DOCTOR
There now...
He blows onto the jar, the glow fades away and the bubbling stops.
DOCTOR (sitting up)
You see? Used the regeneration energy to heal myself, but soon as I was done, I didn't need to change. I didn't want to, why would I? (he adjust his tie with a smug expression) Look at me! So, to stop the energy going all the way, I siphoned off the rest into a handy bio-matching receptacle, namely, my hand, my hand there, my handy spare hand!
He stands up and talks to Rose.
DOCTOR
Remember, Christmas Day, Sycorax, lost my hand in a sword fight? That's my hand. What d'you think?
ROSE (slowly walking forward)
You - you're still you?
DOCTOR
I'm still me.
After all that time, they finally hug each other. Jack and Donna smile, so happy for them.
DONNA (to Jack)
You can hug me, if you want.
Jack laughs.
DONNA (seriously)
No, really, you can hug me!

Gwen and Ianto are working on a computer trying to find out what stopped the b*ll*ts and the Dalek.
IANTO
It's a Time Lock! The ultimate defence programme. Tosh was working on it, never thought she finished it, but she did! The Hub's sealed in a time bubble, nothing can get in.
GWEN
But that means we can't get out.
IANTO
Nope. Not without unlocking that Dalek. We're trapped inside. It's all up to Jack now.

Four Daleks surround the TARDIS.
DALEK
Report! TARDIS has been located!
SUPREME DALEK (via intercom)
Bring it here! Bring the Doctor to me! Initiate temporal prison!
The Daleks glide back as a shining blue circle appears around the TARDIS.
DALEK
Temporal prison initiated!
Inside, the console room goes dark.
DOCTOR
They've got us! Power's gone! Some kind of chronon loop...
The ship rocks as it is pulled up towards the sky. Sarah Jane, Mickey and Jackie are hiding behind a van, watching the TARDIS fly away.
DALEK
Transferring TARDIS to the Crucible.
SARAH JANE
Those teleport things, can we use them? If they've taken the Doctor to the Dalek spaceship, that's where we need to be.
MICKEY
It's not just a teleport, it's a Dimension Jump. Mind, this thing rips a hole in the fabric of space.
SARAH JANE
But can we use it?
MICKEY
Not yet, it burns up energy, needs half an hour between jumps.
SARAH JANE
Then put down your g*ns.
MICKEY
Do what?
SARAH JANE
If you're carrying a g*n, they'll sh**t you dead.
She steps out of the cover and walks towards the Daleks, her hands held up in surrender.
SARAH JANE
Daleks! I surrender!
DALEK
All humans in this sector will be taken to the Crucible!
MICKEY
She's bloody mad!
JACKIE
Yeah, but Mickey, if they've got the Doctor, then they've got Rose.
She puts down her g*n and steps forward too.
JACKIE
And us! We surrender!
Mickey kisses his g*n before he throws it down and follows Jackie.

MARTHA
Now Jack's explained the base code, I know how this teleport works. I think. But you just stay indoors, there's no Daleks on this street, you should be all right, just um... keep quiet.
FRANCINE
But where are you going?
MARTHA
I'm a member of UNIT, and they gave me the Osterhagen Key. I've got to do my job. (she holds out her hand to keep Francine at a distance) I'm sorry.
FRANCINE
Martha. What's an Osterhagen Key? Tell me. What does it do?
MARTHA (with a sob)
Love you.
She teleports away.

GERMANY
60 miles outside Nuremberg
Martha lands in a forest. She can hear Daleks nearby.
DALEK #1
Exterminieren! Exterminieren!
DALEK #2
Halt! Sonst werden wir Sie exterminieren! Sie sind jetzt ein Gefangener der Daleks! [Stop! Or you will be exterminated! You are now a prisoner of the Daleks!]
Martha peers through the woods and sees several Daleks gliding through the forest.
DALEK #1
Exterminieren! Exterminieren!
Martha runs in the opposite direction.

JACK
There's a massive Dalek ship at the centre of the planets. They're calling it the Crucible. Guess that's our destination.
DONNA (to the Doctor)
You said these planets were like an engine. But what for?
DOCTOR
Rose! You've been in a parallel world, that world's running ahead of this universe. You've seen the future. What was it?
ROSE
It's the darkness.
DONNA (remembering)
The stars were going out.
ROSE
One by one. We looked up at the sky and they were just dying. Basically, we've been building this, um... this travel machine, this... this, er, Dimension Cannon, so I c- well, so, I could...
DOCTOR
What?
ROSE
So I could come back. (the Doctor grins at her) Shut up. Anyway, suddenly, it started to work and the dimensions started to collapse. Not just in our world, not just in yours, but the whole of reality. Even the Void was dead. Something is destroying everything.
DONNA
In that parallel world... you said something about me.
ROSE
The Dimension Cannon could measure timelines, and it's... it's weird, Donna, but they all seemed to converge on you.
DONNA
But why me? I mean, what have I ever done? I'm a temp. From Chiswick!
There's a beep and the Doctor leans towards the monitor.
DOCTOR
The Dalek Crucible. All aboard!
The Daleks transferred the TARDIS to the bridge of the Crucible.
DALEK
The TARDIS is secured.
SUPREME DALEK
Doctor, you will step forth or die.
DOCTOR
We'll have to go out. Cos if we don't, they'll get in.
ROSE
You told me nothing could get through those doors.
JACK
You've got extrapolator shielding!
DOCTOR
Last time we fought the Daleks, they were scavengers and hybrids and mad. But this is a fully-fledged Dalek Empire, at the height of its power. Experts at fighting TARDISes, they can do anything. Right now, that wooden door... is just wood.
A bit further from the others, Donna is lost in her own world, the heartbeat echoing in her head again.
JACK
What about your Dimension Jump?
ROSE
It needs another 20 minutes, and anyway, I'm not leaving.
DOCTOR
What about your teleport?
JACK
Went down with the power loss.
DOCTOR
Right, then, all of us together... Yeah.
He notices Donna's absence from the conversation.
DOCTOR
Donna?
He walks to Donna who is still listening to the mysterious heartbeat.
DOCTOR
Donna?
DONNA (snapped out of trance)
Yeah.
DOCTOR
I'm sorry. There's nothing else we can do.
DONNA
Look, I know.
SUPREME DALEK
Surrender, Doctor, and face your Dalek masters.
DALEK
Crucible on maximum alert.
ROSE (with a nervous laugh)
Daleks.
JACK (laughing too)
Oh, God!
DOCTOR
It's been good, though, hasn't it? All of us, all of it. Everything we did. (to Donna) You were brilliant.
She smiles at him. The Doctor turns to Jack.
DOCTOR
And you were brilliant.
Jack grins at him. The Doctor looks at Rose.
DOCTOR
And you were brilliant. (he takes a deep breath) Blimey!
The Doctor steps out of the TARDIS, followed by Rose and Jack.
SUPREME DALEK
Daleks reign supreme. All hail the Daleks!
DALEKS
Daleks reign supreme. All hail the Daleks! Daleks reign supreme. All hail the Daleks!
Donna is walking towards the door, but she stops when she hears the heartbeat again.
DALEKS
Daleks reign supreme. All hail the Daleks! Daleks reign supreme. All hail the Daleks!
The Doctor, Rose and Jack watch the countless Daleks swarming in the air.
SUPREME DALEK
Behold, Doctor! Behold the might of the true Dalek race!
Donna is still in the TARDIS. She looks back to the hand in the jar, trying to find where the heartbeat comes from. The Doctor notices that she's still inside.
DOCTOR
Donna, you're no safer in there.
Donna turns back towards the door, but it is slammed shut before she could follow the others.
DOCTOR (running to the TARDIS)
What?
DONNA (banging the door from inside)
Doctor? What have you done?
DOCTOR
It wasn't me, I didn't do anything!
DONNA
Oi! Oi, I'm not staying behind!
DOCTOR (to the Supreme Dalek)
What did you do?!
SUPREME DALEK
This is not of Dalek origin.
DONNA
Doctor!
DOCTOR
Stop it! She's my friend, now open the door and let her out!
SUPREME DALEK
This is Time Lord treachery.
DOCTOR
Me? The door just closed on its own!
SUPREME DALEK
Nevertheless, the TARDIS is a w*apon and it will be destroyed.
A trapdoor opens beneath the TARDIS and it falls down.
DOCTOR
What are you doing? Bring it back!

Donna is clinging to the railings as the TARDIS falls through an endless tunnel.
DONNA
Doctor!

DOCTOR
What've you done, where's it going?!
SUPREME DALEK
The Crucible has a heart of Z-Neutrino Energy. The TARDIS will be deposited into the core.
DOCTOR (horrified)
You can't, you've taken the defences down, it'll be torn apart!

The TARDIS lands in the energy globe at the heart of the Crucible. The console room is in flames, lights in the walls smash and Donna screams as she climbs back to the console.

ROSE
But Donna's still in there!
JACK
Let her go!
SUPREME DALEK
The female and the TARDIS will perish together. Observe!
He activates a holographic screen that shows the TARDIS, bobbing in the energy field.
SUPREME DALEK
The last child of Gallifrey is powerless.
DOCTOR (in panic)
Please, I'm begging you, I'll do anything! Put me in her place, you can do anything to me, I don't care, just get her out of there!

Donna is on her hands and knees, coughing in the smoke. But suddenly she hears the heartbeat again, and, as in a trance, she turns to the hand in the jar. She reaches out to touch it and the regeneration energy appears again, sweeping up her hand. Donna gasps and shakes as the light engulfs her. The jar smashes.

The Doctor watches the screen in despair, breathing heavily.
SUPREME DALEK
You are connected to the TARDIS. Now feel it die!
***
Donna sits up and looks curiously at the hand. It's now on the floor, still glowing, the fingers twitching. The energy reaches out until the shape of a man appears. Fully formed, he sits up - the energy fades away, revealing the Doctor.
DONNA (stunned)
It's you...
NEW DOCTOR
Oh, yes!
DONNA (glances at him then quickly away)
You're naked.
NEW DOCTOR
Oh, yes.

Rose walks to the Doctor and takes his hand as they watch the TARDIS on the screen.
SUPREME DALEK
Total TARDIS destruction in ten rels, nine, eight, seven, six...

The new Doctor pushes some buttons on the console.
SUPREME DALEK (VO)
...five, four, three, two, one...
The TARDIS disappears.

SUPREME DALEK
The TARDIS has been destroyed. Now tell me, Doctor. What do you feel? Anger? Sorrow? Despair?
DOCTOR (lost for words)
Yeah.
SUPREME DALEK
Then if emotions are so important, surely we have enhanced you?
JACK
Yeah? Feel this!
He sh**t at the Supreme Dalek with his handgun, causing no harm at all.
SUPREME DALEK
Exterminate!
The death ray hits Jack and he collapses, dead. Rose kneels down to him.
ROSE
Jack! Oh, my God! Oh, no!
DOCTOR
Rose, come here, leave him.
ROSE
They k*lled him.
DOCTOR
I know. I'm sorry.
SUPREME DALEK
Escort them to the Vault.
The Doctor pulls Rose up.
DOCTOR
There's nothing we can do.
SUPREME DALEK
They are the playthings of Davros now.
The Doctor looks back to Jack who winks at him.

Now wearing a blue suit, the new Doctor is checking the walls of the TARDIS.
NEW DOCTOR
All repaired, lovely! Ssh! No-one knows we're here. Gotta keep quiet. Silent running, like on submarines when you can't even drop a spanner. Don't drop a spanner! I like blue, what d'you think?
DONNA
You. Are. Bonkers!
NEW DOCTOR
Why?! What's wrong with blue?
DONNA
Is that what Time Lords do? Lop a bit off, grow another one? You're like worms!
NEW DOCTOR
No no no no no, I'm unique. Never been another like me. Cos all that regeneration energy went into the hand. Look at my hand! I love that hand! But then you touched it, WHAM! (Donna jumps and yells) Ssh! Instantaneous biological metacrisis. I grew... (taken aback) out of you! Still, could be worse.
DONNA
Oi! Watch it, Spaceman!
NEW DOCTOR (sounding like her)
Oi! Watch it, Earthgirl!
Donna's mouth hangs open from surprise - and so does the new Doctor's.
NEW DOCTOR
Oh... I sound like you. I sound all... all sort of... rough.
DONNA
Oi!
NEW DOCTOR
Oi!
DONNA
Oi!
NEW DOCTOR
Spanners, ssh! I must've picked up a bit of your voice, that's all. (talking just like Donna) Is it? Did I? No! Oh, you are kidding me, no way. One heart. (shocked, feeling his chest) I've got one heart! This body has got only one heart!
DONNA
What? (touching his chest) What, like you're human?
NEW DOCTOR
Oh, that's disgusting!
DONNA
Oi!
NEW DOCTOR
Oi!
DONNA
Stop it!
NEW DOCTOR
No, wait, I'm... part Time Lord, part human.
They both look totally gob-smacked.
NEW DOCTOR (sarcastic)
Well, isn't that wizard?
DONNA
I kept hearing that noise, that heartbeat...
NEW DOCTOR
Oh, that was me. My single heart.Cos I'm a complicated event in time and space, must have rippled back. Converging on you.
He walks to the console.
DONNA
But why me?
NEW DOCTOR (like it's obvious)
Cos you're special.
DONNA
Oh, I keep telling you, I'm not!
NEW DOCTOR
No, but you are. (looking at her as if he's just understanding) Oh. You really don't believe that, do you? I can see, Donna... what you're thinking. All that attitude. All that lip. Cos all this time... you think you're not worth it.
DONNA
Stop it!
NEW DOCTOR
Shouting at the world, cos no-one's listening. Well... why should they?
DONNA
Doctor. Stop it.
NEW DOCTOR (proudly)
But look at what you did! (thinking for a moment) No, it's more than that, it's like... we were always heading for this.
Flashback: Donna appearing in the TARDIS on her wedding day.
NEW DOCTOR
You came to the TARDIS.
Another flashback: seeing each other in the Adipose building.
NEW DOCTOR (VO)
And you found me again.
Flashback: Wilf saluting the Doctor during Voyage of the Damned.
NEW DOCTOR (VO)
Your granddad.
Flashback: Donna opening the boot of her car, parked near the TARDIS.
NEW DOCTOR (VO)
Your car!
Flashback ends.
NEW DOCTOR
Donna, your car, you-you parked your car right where the TARDIS was gonna land, that's not coincidence at all! We've been blind. Something's been drawing us together for such a long time.
DONNA
But you're talking, like... destiny. There's no such thing, is there?
NEW DOCTOR
It's still not finished. It's like... the pattern's not complete, the strands are still drawing together. But heading for what?

Martha arrives to an abandoned castle. And old woman comes to meet her.
GERMAN WOMAN
Hier ist niemand. Was immer Sie wollen, gehen Sie fort. Lassen Sie mich in Ruhe! [There's nobody here. Whatever you want, just go away. Leave me alone!]
MARTHA
Ich heisse Martha Jones. Ich komme von UNIT. Agentin fuenf sechs sechs sieben eins, von der medizinishen Abteilung. [My name is Martha Jones. I come from UNIT, agent 56671, medical officer.]
GERMAN WOMAN
Es hiess Sie kaemen vorbei. [They said you might come.] That accent, that is London, ja? I went to London. Long time ago.
MARTHA
I thought this place was supposed to be guarded.
GERMAN WOMAN
There were soldiers. Boys. I brought them food, every day. But when der Albtraum [nightmare] came from the sky... they went home, to die. But not you?
MARTHA
I've got a job to do.
Determined, she walks into the castle. She crosses a dark room and pulls away a curtain, revealing a hidden door. She enters a code and puts her hand to the palm scanner. The woman follows her into the room.
GERMAN WOMAN
London, in those days. To see it! So much glamour. I was so young. (pause) I heard the soldiers talking. Many times. They would speak of the Osterhagen Key. (pause) I think London must be changed now, yes? But still, the glamour.
Martha opens the door, but turns back as she hears the woman cocking a g*n.
GERMAN WOMAN
You will not go.
MARTHA
I've got no choice.
GERMAN WOMAN
I know the Key. What it does. (in tears) Sie sind der Albtraum, nicht die anderen, Sie! Ich sollte Sie umbringen, am besten gleich jetzt! [You are the nightmare, it's not them, it's you! I should k*ll you right now!]
MARTHA (quietly)
Then do it.
The woman trembles, then lowers the g*n. Martha steps into the lift behind the door.
GERMAN WOMAN
Martha... Zur Hoelle mit Dir! [Go to hell!]
MARTHA
I know.

DALEK
Commence disposal. Incinerate!
They send Jack's seemingly lifeless body with a bunch of other rubbish to the incinerator.
DALEK
Disposal completed.
The Daleks leave. A second later, Jack climbs back to the room, coughing but alive.

Martha arrives to a small chamber filled with screens and controls. She sits down and presses a button.
MARTHA
This is Osterhagen Station One. My name is Martha Jones. Is there anyone there? Over.

DALEK
Prisoners now on board the Crucible. They will be taken for testing.
The Daleks herd forward the prisoners, including Sarah Jane, Mickey and Jackie.
SARAH JANE
One step closer to the Doctor.

DAVROS
Activate the holding cells.
The Doctor and Rose stand several feet from each other, the holding cells they are put into look like spotlights over them. Davros rolls towards the Doctor.
DAVROS
Excellent. Even when powerless, a Time Lord is best contained.
DOCTOR
Still scared of me, then?
He reaches out and touches the edge of the holding cell - it ripples with blue light.
DAVROS
It is time we talked, Doctor. After so very long.
DOCTOR
No no no no no, we're not doing the nostalgia tour, I wanna know what's happening, right here, right now, cos the Supreme Dalek said Vault, yeah? (looking around) As in dungeon? Cellar? Prison? You're not in charge of the Daleks, are you? They've got you locked away down here in the basement like, what, a servant? sl*ve? Court jester?
DAVROS
We have... an arrangement.
DOCTOR (with a mocking laugh)
No no no no, I've got the word. You're the Dalek's pet!
DAVROS (moving to Rose)
So very full of fire, is he not? And to think you crossed entire universes, striding parallel to parallel to find him again.
DOCTOR
Leave her alone.
DAVROS
She is mine, to do as I please.
ROSE
Then why am I still alive?
DAVROS
You must be here. It was foretold. Even the Supreme Dalek would not dare to contradict the prophecies of Dalek Caan.
He turns on the spotlight over Dalek Caan.
DALEK CAAN (sing-song voice)
So cold and dark, fire is coming, the endless flames...
ROSE
What is that thing?
DOCTOR
You've met before. The last of the Cult of Skaro. But it flew into the Time w*r, unprotected.
DAVROS
Caan did more than that. He saw time, its infinite complexity and majesty, raging through his mind. And he saw you. Both of you.
DALEK CAAN
This I have foreseen, in the wild, and the wind. The Doctor will be here, as witness. At the end of everything. The Doctor and his precious Children of Time. (it giggles) And one of them will die!
DOCTOR (full of anger)
Was it you, Caan? Did you k*ll Donna? Why did the TARDIS door close, tell me!
DAVROS
Oh, that's it! The anger. The fire. The rage of a Time Lord who butchered millions. There he is! Why so shy? Show your companion. Show her your true self. Dalek Caan has promised me that, too.
DALEK CAAN
I have seen. At the time of ending, the Doctor's soul will be revealed.
DOCTOR
What does that mean?
DAVROS
We will discover it together. Our final journey. Because the ending approaches, the testing begins.
DOCTOR
Testing of what?
DAVROS
The Reality b*mb.

Prisoners will stand in the designated area! Move! Move!
As the prisoners walk ahead, a woman falls on her knees.
SCARED WOMAN
Ohh!
DALEK
You will stand!
SCARED WOMAN
I can't...
DALEK
You will stand!
SCARED WOMAN
I can't. Please!
DALEK
On your feet. On your feet!
While the Daleks are distracted, Sarah Jane runs to a door and opens it with her sonic lipstick.
SARAH JANE
Mickey! Mickey!
MICKEY
Jackie!
Mickey follows Sarah Jane, but Jackie has just helped the scared woman to her feet, she can't slip away unnoticed.
DALEK
Prisoners will stand in the designated area!
Mickey and Sarah Jane watch the prisoners through the window in the door.
MICKEY
We can't just leave her!
SARAH JANE
No, Mickey, wait!
A Dalek glides in front of their door.
SCARED WOMAN (to Jackie)
What does it mean? What are they testing, what are they gonna do?
They look up to see a big, circular green device.
JACKIE
I reckon it's that thing there.
SUPREME DALEK
Testing calibration of Reality b*mb! f*ring in ten rels, nine, eight, seven...

DAVROS
Behold the apotheosis of my genius!
He flicks a switch and a holographic screen appears, showing the test area.
SUPREME DALEK
...two, one, zero. Activate planetary alignment field!

The TARDIS shakes violently, the new Doctor and Donna look at the monitor to find out what's happening.
NEW DOCTOR
It's the planets. The 27 planets!

White energy glow surrounds the planets.

DOCTOR
That's Z-Neutrino energy... flattened by the alignment of the planets into a single string. (turning to Davros in horror) No! Davros! Davros, you can't! You can't! NO!

In the TARDIS, the new Doctor is watching the monitor, working out what's happening.
NEW DOCTOR
Single-string Z-Neutrinos compressed into... No way!

Sarah Jane watches the prisoners while Mickey paces up and down, frustrated. The Dimension Jumps beeps in his pocket.
MICKEY
30 minutes... it's recharged!
He dashes to the window, showing it to Jackie, gesturing wildly.
MICKEY (barely audible)
It's recharged! It's recharged! Use it!
JACKIE (to the scared woman)
I'm so sorry.
She presses the button and disappears.

Mickey and Jackie hug. Then the three of them watch in horror as the Reality b*mb starts to work and the prisoners get dissolved into atoms.

DALEK
Test completed.

DONNA
What was it? Doctor? What did it do?
But the new Doctor is speechless from horror.

ROSE
Doctor? What happened?
DAVROS
Electrical energy, Miss Tyler. Every atom in existence is bound by an electrical field. The Reality b*mb cancels it out. Structure falls apart. That test was focused on the prisoners alone. Full transmission will dissolve every form of matter.
ROSE
Stars are going out...
DOCTOR
The 27 planets. They become one vast transmitter. Blasting that wavelength...
DAVROS
Across the entire universe. Never stopping, never faltering, never fading. People and planets and stars will become dust, and the dust will become atoms, and the atoms will become... nothing. And the wavelength will continue, breaking through the Rift at the heart of the Medusa Cascade into every dimension, every parallel, every single corner of creation! This is my ultimate victory, Doctor! The destruction of reality itself!

Prepare for universal detonation! The fleet will gather at the Crucible! All Daleks will return to shelter from the cataclysm! We will become the only life forms in existence!

The Dalek spaceships leave the Earth. People run to the street to watch them go.
SYLVIA (smiling with relief)
Look, they're leaving! Dad, they're going, the Daleks are going!
WILF
Going where, though? And Donna's still out there. It's not over yet, sweetheart.

A panel on the wall is thrown open and Jack rolls out. He looks at Mickey, Sarah Jane and Jackie.
JACK
Just my luck. I climb through two miles of ventilation shafts, chasing life signs on this thing... (he points at his wrist device) And who do I find? Mickey Mouse.

She holds up something that looks like a diamond pendant. Jack watches it with open-mouthed awe.

Is that a Warp Star?
Sarah Jane nods.
MICKEY
Gonna tell me what a Warp Star is?
JACK
A warpfold conjugation trapped in a carbonised shell. It's an expl*si*n, Mickey. An expl*si*n waiting to happen.

MARTHA

CHINESE WOMAN

The screen appears in the Vault too.
MARTHA
This message is for the Dalek Crucible, repeat, can you hear me?
DOCTOR

DAVROS
It begins. As Dalek Caan foretold.
DALEK CAAN (giggling)
The Children of Time will gather. And one of them will die!
DOCTOR
Stop saying that! Put me through!
MARTHA
Doctor! I'm sorry. I had to.
DAVROS
Oh, but the Doctor is powerless. My prisoner. State your intent.
MARTHA (showing them the Key)
I've got the Osterhagen Key. Leave this planet and its people alone. Or I'll use it.
DOCTOR
Osterhagen what? What's an Osterhagen Key?!
MARTHA
There's a chain of 25 nuclear warheads, placed in strategic points beneath the Earth's crust. If I use the key, they detonate and the Earth gets ripped apart.
DOCTOR (shocked)
What?! Who invented that?! Well, someone called Osterhagen, I suppose. Martha, are you insane!?
MARTHA
The Osterhagen Key is to be used, if the suffering of the human race is so great, so without hope... that this becomes the final option.
DOCTOR
That's never an option!
MARTHA
Don't argue with me, Doctor! Cos it's more than that. Now, I reckon the Daleks need these 27 planets for something, but what if it becomes 26? What happens then? Daleks? Would you risk it?
ROSE (impressed)
She's good.
MARTHA
Who is that?
ROSE
My name's Rose. Rose Tyler.
MARTHA
Oh, my God! He found you.
DALEK
Second transmission, internal!
SUPREME DALEK
Display!
A second screen appears. It shows Jack holding the Warp Star high, Sarah Jane, Mickey and Jackie in the background.
JACK
Captain Jack Harkness, calling all Dalek boys and girls! Are you receiving me? Don't send in your g*ons, or I'll set this thing off!
ROSE
He's still alive! (spotting Jackie) Oh my god, that-that's my mum!
DOCTOR
And Mickey - Captain, what are you doing?
JACK
I've got a Warp Star wired into the mainframe. I break this shell, the entire Crucible goes up.
DOCTOR
You can't! Where did you get a Warp Star?!
SARAH JANE (stepping forward)
From me! We had no choice. We saw what happened to the prisoners.
DAVROS (recognising her)
Impossible. That face... after all these years.
SARAH JANE
Davros? (with venom) It's been quite a while. Sarah Jane Smith, remember?
DAVROS
Oh, this is meant to be! The Circle of Time is closing. You were there, on Skaro, at the very beginning of my creation.
SARAH JANE
And I've learnt how to fight since then! You let the Doctor go, or this Warp Star - it gets opened.
JACK
I'll do it! Don't imagine I wouldn't.
ROSE (smiling)
Now that's what I call a ransom! Doctor?
But the Doctor keeps his eyes at the floor, overcome with guilt.
DAVROS
And the prophecy unfolds.
DALEK CAAN
The Doctor's soul is revealed. (giggles) See him! See the heart of him!
DAVROS
The man who abhors v*olence. Never carrying a g*n. But this is the truth, Doctor. You take ordinary people and you fashion THEM into weapons. Behold your Children of Time, transformed into murderers. I made the Daleks, Doctor. You made this.
DOCTOR (unconvincingly)
They're trying to help.
DAVROS
Already, I have seen them sacrifice today, for their beloved Doctor. The Earth woman, who fell opening the Subwave Network.
DOCTOR
Who was that?
ROSE
Harriet Jones. She gave her life to get you here.
Flashback to Harriet Jones, flashing her ID to the Daleks.
DAVROS
How many more? Just think! How many have d*ed in your name?
And the Doctor remembers. So many faces over the years, sacrificing themselves for him: Jabe, the Controller, Lynda, Sir Robert, Mrs Moore, Mr Skinner, Ursula, Bridget, the Face of Boe, Chantho, Astrid, Luke Rattigan, Jenny, River Song, the Hostess... The Doctor is trembling, broken.
DAVROS
The Doctor. The man who keeps running, never looking back. Because he dare not, out of shame. This is my final victory, Doctor. I have shown you... yourself.
For once, the Doctor has no answer.

Enough! Engage defence zero-five.
MARTHA (lifting up the Osterhagen Key menacingly)
It's the Crucible or the Earth.
DALEK
Transmat engaged.
The Osterhagen Key and the Warp Star fall to the ground as the transmat snatches Martha, as well as Jack & company, to the Vault. Jack helps Martha to her feet.
JACK
Martha! I've got you, it's all right...
DOCTOR
Don't move, all of you, stay still!
DAVROS
Guard them! On your knees, all of you. Surrender!
DOCTOR
Do as he says.
ROSE (low voice)
Mum, I told you not to!
JACKIE
Yeah, but I couldn't leave you.
DAVROS
The final prophecy is in place. The Doctor and his children, all gathered as witnesses. Supreme Dalek, the time has come! Now... detonate the Reality b*mb!
SUPREME DALEK
Activate planetary alignment field!
Again, the planets start to glow with energy.
SUPREME DALEK
Universal Reality Detonation in 200 rels.
DOCTOR (desperately)
You can't, Davros, just listen to me! Just stop!
DAVROS (laughing with insane delight)
Nothing can stop the detonation, nothing and no-one!

NEW DOCTOR (finishing the device he's been assembling)
Ready! Maximum power!
He kicks a lever with his foot and the TARDIS rocks.

The Doctor and companions watch in delighted surprise as the TARDIS materialises inside the Vault.
DOCTOR
But that's...
DAVROS
Impossible!
The new Doctor appears in the door, surrounded by bright light, the device he constructed in his hand.
JACK
Brilliant!
The new Doctor sprints towards Davros.
DOCTOR
Don't!
Davros zaps the new Doctor with a bolt of electricity from his finger. He falls to the ground, stunned but not badly hurt.
DAVROS
Activate holding cell.
A holding cell appears around the new Doctor. Donna runs out of the TARDIS and picks up the w*apon.
DONNA
Doctor! I've got it. But I don't know what to do!
Davros zaps her too, the power sends her flying back towards a control panel.
DOCTOR
Donna! Donna! Are you all right, Donna?
DAVROS
Destroy the w*apon.
The device is exploded by a Dalek death ray.
DAVROS
I was wrong about your warriors, Doctor. They are pathetic!
ROSE (shocked)
How come there's two of you?
DOCTOR
Human biological metacrisis. Never mind that, now we've got no way of stopping the Reality b*mb!
SUPREME DALEK
Detonation in 20 rels... 19...
Davros activates a holographic screen that shows the planets glowing with energy.
DAVROS
Stand witness, Time Lord! Stand witness, humans! Your strategies have failed. Your weapons are useless. And, oh. The end of the universe is come.
SUPREME DALEK
... nine... eight... seven... six... five...
Donna emerges from behind the control panel with a surprised expression. The others are watching the screen in despair.
SUPREME DALEK
... four... three... two... one...
The countdown stops and the holographic screen disappears. An alarm sounds as Daleks, humans and the Doctors all look around in confusion.
DONNA (confident, mocking, resembling the Doctor)
Oh... closing all Z-Neutrino relay loops using an internalised synchronous back-feed reversal loop? (she flicks a switch) That button there!

System in shutdown!
DALEK #2
Detonation negative!
SUPREME DALEK
Explain! Explain! Explain!
DOCTOR (bemused)
Donna, you can't even change a plug!
DONNA (grinning)
D'you wanna bet, Time Boy?
DAVROS
You'll suffer for this!
He lifts his hand to zap her, but Donna flicks another switch and the electricity turns back to Davros instead.
DAVROS
Argh!
DONNA
Oh, bio-electric dampening field with a retrogressive arc inversion?
DAVROS
Exterminate her!
DALEKS
Exterminate! Exterminate! Exterminate!
The humans look terrified but Donna doesn't seem bothered - she works a bit on the control panel and looks at the Daleks with a cheeky smile.
DALEK
Weapons non-functional.
DONNA
What? Macrotransmission of a K-filter wavelength blocking Dalek weaponry in a self-replicating energy blindfold matrix?
DOCTOR (stunned)
How d'you work that out? You...
NEW DOCTOR
Time Lord! Part Time Lord!
DONNA (delighted)
Part human! Oh, yes! That was a two-way biological metacrisis. (flashback shows as the regeneration energy from the hand engulfs Donna) Half Doctor, half Donna!
DOCTOR
The DoctorDonna! Just like the Ood said, remember? They saw it coming! The DoctorDonna!
DONNA (pushing some controls)
Holding cells deactivated. And seal the Vault. Well, don't just stand there, you skinny boys in suits! Get to work!
The two Doctors run to the control panel.
DAVROS
Stop them! Get them away from the controls.
Donna flicks another switch and turns a dial.
DONNA
Aaand spin.
The Daleks start to spin around, helpless.
DALEK
Help me, help me!
Donna repeats the process in the opposite direction.
DONNA
Aaand the other way.
NEW DOCTOR
What did you do?!
DONNA
Trip-stitch circuit-breaker in the psycho-kinetic threshold manipulator!
NEW DOCTOR
But that's brilliant!
DOCTOR
Why did we never think of that?
DONNA
Because you two, you were just Time Lords, you dumbos! Lacking that little bit of human, that gut instinct that comes hand in hand with Planet Earth. I can think of ideas you two wouldn't dream of in a million years! Ah, the universe has been waiting for me! Now... let's send that trip-stitch all over the ship! Did I ever tell you? (she hold up her hands, wiggling her fingers) Best temp in Chiswick, 100 words per minute!
NEW DOCTOR
Ha!
As Donna works with the controls, the Daleks around the Supreme Dalek start to spin uncontrollably too.

SUPREME DALEK
What is happening? Explain!
Jack runs into the TARDIS.
DONNA
Come on then, boys, we've got 27 planets to send home! Activate Magnetron!
DAVROS
Stop this at once!
He advances menacingly, but Jack appears with his g*n and Rose's, that he throws to Mickey.
JACK
Mickey!
DAVROS
You will desist!
But Mickey stops him, pointing the massive g*n at him.
MICKEY
Just stay where you are, mister.
JACK
Out of the way!
He kicks a Dalek away - it glides down a corridor, spinning helplessly. Sarah Jane and Rose push away another Dalek.
SARAH JANE
Good to see you again!
ROSE
Oh, you too!
Martha pushes one away, too.
DONNA (to the Doctors)
Ready? And reverse!
One by one, the planets disappear from the Medusa Cascade, returning to their original location.
DOCTOR
Off you go, Clom.
NEW DOCTOR
Back home, Adipose 3!
DONNA
Shallacatop, Pyrovillia and the Lost Moon of Poosh, sorted! Ha!
NEW DOCTOR
Ha!
DOCTOR
We need more power!
ROSE (still completely bemused)
Is anyone gonna tell us what's going on?
DONNA
He (gestures to the original the Doctor) poured all his regeneration energy into his spare hand, I touched the hand, he (gestures to the new Doctor) grew out of that but that fed back into me. But, it just stayed dormant in my head till the synapses got that little extra spark, kicking them into life. Thank you, Davros! (flashback shows Donna, sitting up after the electroshock from Davros, her eyes glowing with the golden regeneration energy) Part human... part Time Lord. And I got the best bit of the Doctor. I got his mind!
SARAH JANE
So there's three of you?
ROSE
Three Doctors?
JACK
I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now.
DOCTOR
You're so unique the timelines were converging on you. Human being with a Time Lord brain.
Davros turns back to Dalek Caan.
DAVROS
But you promised me, Dalek Caan! Why did you not foresee this?
Dalek Caan giggles.
DOCTOR
Oh, I think he did. Something's been manipulating the timelines for ages. Getting Donna Noble to the right place at the right time.
DALEK CAAN
This would always have happened. I only helped, Doctor.
DAVROS
You betrayed the Daleks!
DALEK CAAN
I saw the Daleks. What we have done, throughout time and space, I saw the truth of us, Creator, and I decreed "No more!"
So far, the Supreme Dalek was following the events from the bridge via intercom.
SUPREME DALEK
I will descend to the Vault!
It appears in the Vault. Jack cocks his g*n.
JACK
Heads up!
SUPREME DALEK
Davros! You have betrayed us!
DAVROS
It was Dalek Caan.
SUPREME DALEK
The Vault will be purged! You will all be exterminated!
It sh**t at the control panel.
JACK
Like I was saying. Feel this!
This time, Jack uses his huge g*n against the Supreme Dalek and blasts it out easily. The Doctor examines the control panel.
DOCTOR
Oh, we've lost the Magnetron! And there's only one planet left - guess which one? But we can use the TARDIS...
He dashes inside, while the new Doctor flicks switches on the remains of the control panel.
NEW DOCTOR
Holding Earth stability! Maintaining atmospheric shell.
DALEK CAAN
The prophecy must complete.
DAVROS
Don't listen to him!
DALEK CAAN
I have seen the end of everything Dalek, and you must make it happen, Doctor!
His words make the new Doctor think.
NEW DOCTOR
He's right. Cos with or without a Reality b*mb, this Dalek Empire's big enough to slaughter the cosmos... They've got to be stopped!
DONNA
Just - just wait for the Doctor!
NEW DOCTOR
I am the Doctor! (working with the controls) Maximising Dalekanium power feeds! Blasting them back!
One by one, Daleks start exploding, the power of it shaking the whole Crucible, including the TARDIS. The Doctor runs out to see what's happening.
DOCTOR (horrified)
What have you done?
NEW DOCTOR
Fulfilling the prophecy.
The Dalek saucers around the Crucible are exploding too. So does the Dalek stuck in the Hub.
GWEN
There goes the Time Lock!
DOCTOR (furiously)
D'you know what you've done? Now get in the TARDIS! Everyone! All of you, inside! Run! In! In! In! In!
NEW DOCTOR (standing just inside the door as the others run in)
Sarah Jane! Rose! Jackie! Jack! Mickey!
Explosions shake the Vault, fire and destruction everywhere. The Doctor is still outside the door, holding his hand out towards Davros.
DOCTOR
Davros! Come with me! I promise I can save you.
DAVROS
Never forget, Doctor. You did this! I name you, forever... you are the Destroyer of the Worlds!
He screams as he disappears behind flames.
DALEK CAAN
One will still die.
The Doctor gets inside the TARDIS and runs to the console, which is surrounded by all his friends.
DOCTOR
And... off we go!
He pulls a lever and the TARDIS shakes violently as they take off. The Crucible explodes.
SARAH JANE
But what about the Earth? It's stuck in the wrong part of space!
DOCTOR
I'm on it! (watching the monitor) Torchwood Hub! This is the Doctor! Are you receiving me?
GWEN
Loud and clear! Is Jack there?
DOCTOR
Can't get rid of him! Jack, what's her name?
JACK
Gwen Cooper.
DOCTOR
Tell me, Gwen Cooper, are you from an old Cardiff family?
GWEN
Yes, all the way back to the 1800s!
The Doctor and Rose watch her with huge grins.
DOCTOR (delighted)
Yeah, thought so, spatial genetic multiplicity.
ROSE
Oh yeah!
DOCTOR
Yeah, yeah, funny old world... Now, Torchwood, I want you to open up that Rift Manipulator. Send all the power to me.
IANTO
Doing it now, sir!
GWEN
What's that for?
DOCTOR
It's a tow-rope. Now then, Sarah, what was your son's name?
SARAH JANE
Luke, he's called Luke. And the computer's called Mr Smith.
DOCTOR
Calling Luke and Mr Smith! This is the Doctor. Come on Luke, shake your leg!
Luke runs to Mr Smith.
LUKE
Is Mum there?
DOCTOR
Oh, she's fine and dandy...
SARAH JANE (laughing with relief)
Yes! Yes!
DOCTOR
Now Mr Smith, I want you to harness the rift power and loop it around the TARDIS, you got that?
MR SMITH
I regret, I will need remote access to TARDIS base code numerals.
DOCTOR
Oh, blimey, that's gonna take a while.
SARAH JANE
No, no, no, let me! (she runs to the monitor) K9! Out you come!
K-9 appears beside Luke.
K-9
Affirmative, Mistress!
DOCTOR
Oh, good dog! K-9, give Mr Smith the base code!
K-9
Master! TARDIS base code now being transferred. The process is simple!
The code appears on Mr Smith. The Doctor walks around the console, giving instructions to everyone.
DOCTOR
Now then, you lot... Sarah, hold that down. Mickey, you hold that. Cos, you know why this TARDIS always is always rattling about the place? Rose, that, there. It's designed to have six pilots. And I had to do it single handed. Martha, keep that level. But not any more! Jack, there you go, steady that. Now we can fly this thing... No, Jackie, no, no, not you, don't touch anything, just... stand back.
He gently pushes Jackie away, then returns to the others.
DOCTOR
Like it's meant to be flown! We've got the Torchwood Rift looped around the TARDIS by Mr Smith, and we're gonna fly Planet Earth back home! (he takes his own place) Right then! Off we go!
He pulls a lever and the TARDIS starts to move, pulling the Earth along.

Back on the planet, Luke is clinging to Mr Smith and K-9, laughing with delight. In the Torchwood Hub, Ianto and Gwen also hold on tight, laughing and cheering too. In their homes, Wilf and Sylvia look scared, while Francine takes refuge under a table.

In the TARDIS, the flight is unusually calm, as the Doctor and friends work as a perfect team.
DOCTOR (pointing to a control)
Rose.
Donna and the new Doctor are walking around, helping if necessary.
DONNA
That's really good, Jack. I think you're the best.
Donna and the new Doctor lean against a support, smiling.

The Earth arrives back to its proper position. In the TARDIS, people laugh, cheer, clap, everyone hugs everyone. Donna pushes aside Sarah Jane from Jack to throw herself in his arms.

On planet Earth, people celebrate too - Wilf and Sylvia hug each other in delight, BBC News shows fireworks all around the globe with the headline "Earth returns home", Francine spins in her front garden enjoying the sight of the blue sky and the sun.

The TARDIS materialises in a park. The Doctor and Sarah Jane emerge, they look around to find everything back to ordinary.
SARAH JANE
You know, you act like such a lonely man. But look at you. You've got the biggest family on Earth!
They hug each other.
SARAH JANE (backing away suddenly)
Gotta go! He's only 14. It's a long story. And thank you!
The Doctor waves to her, smiling. Sarah Jane waves back, then turns around and dashes off.

DONNA (talking on her mobile inside the TARDIS)
Yeah, I'm fine, are you all right?
MICKEY (to Jackie)
I'm gonna miss you. More than anyone.
JACKIE
What d'you mean? The Doctor's going to take us home, isn't he?
MICKEY
Well, that's the point.
They hug each other tightly.

The Doctor, Jack and Martha are standing in front of the TARDIS. The Doctor sonics Jack's wrist device.
DOCTOR
I told you, no teleport! And, Martha, get rid of that Osterhagen thing, eh? Save the world one more time.
MARTHA
Consider it done.
Jack salutes, and so does Martha. The Doctor seems surprised for a moment, then salutes back. Jack and Martha walk away hand in hand.
JACK
You know, I'm not sure about UNIT these days. Maybe there's something else you could be doing.
The Doctor watches after them, with a touch of sadness in his smile. Mickey appears from the TARDIS.
DOCTOR
Oi, where are you going?
MICKEY
Well I'm not stupid, I can work out what happens next. And hey, I had a good time in that parallel world, but my gran passed away. Nice and peaceful. She spent her last years living in a mansion. There's nothing there for me now, certainly not Rose.
DOCTOR
What will you do?
MICKEY
Anything! Brand new life! Just you watch.
They knock fists.
MICKEY
See you, boss.
He runs after Jack and Martha.
MICKEY
Hey, you two!
JACK (mock exasperation)
Oh. Thought I'd got rid of you.
Mickey throws his arms around their shoulder. The Doctor watches them for a second, then returns to the TARDIS.
DOCTOR
Just time for one last trip. Darlig Ulv Stranden. Better known as...

Bad Wolf Bay
The TARDIS materialises on the beach. Jackie, Rose and the new Doctor emerge.
JACKIE
Ah, fat lot of good this is! Back of beyond. Bloody Norway! I'm gonna have to phone your father, he's on the nursery run.
As they walk ahead, the Doctor and Donna come out of the TARDIS too.
JACKIE (to the new Doctor)
I was pregnant, do you remember? Had a baby boy!
NEW DOCTOR
Ah, brilliant! What did you call him?
JACKIE
Doctor.
NEW DOCTOR (taken aback)
Really?
JACKIE (smiling)
No, you plum! He's called Tony.
ROSE (confused)
Hold on, this is... the parallel universe, right?
DOCTOR
You're back home.
DONNA
And the walls of the world are closing again, now that the Reality b*mb never happened. It's dimensional retroclosure. See, I really get that stuff now.
ROSE
No, but... I spent all that time trying to find you. I'm not going back now!
DOCTOR
But you've got to. Cos we saved the universe, but at a cost. (looking at the new Doctor) And the cost is him. He destroyed the Daleks. He committed genocide. He's too dangerous to be left on his own.
NEW DOCTOR
You made me!
DOCTOR
Exactly. You were born in battle, full of blood and anger and revenge. (to Rose) Remind you of someone?
Rose doesn't answer.
DOCTOR
That's me, when we first met. And you made me better. Now you can do the same for him.
ROSE
But he's not you.
DOCTOR
He needs you. That's very me.
DONNA
But it's better than that, though. Don't you see what he's trying to give you? (to the new Doctor) Tell her, go on.
NEW DOCTOR
I look like him, I think like him, same memories, same thoughts, same everything. Except I've only got one heart.
ROSE
Which means?
NEW DOCTOR
I'm part human. Specifically, the aging part. I'll grow old and never regenerate. I've only got one life... Rose Tyler. I could spend it with you. If you want.
ROSE
You'll grow - grow old... at the same time as me?
NEW DOCTOR
Together.
Confused, Rose touches him to feel his single heart. The Doctor and Donna watch them with a small smile, until a grinding sound comes from the TARDIS.
DOCTOR
We've got to go, this reality is sealing itself off... for ever.
He and Donna head to the TARDIS, but Rose runs after him.
ROSE (confused)
But... it's still not right... cos the Doctor is... still you.
DOCTOR
And I'm him!
ROSE
All right. Both of you, answer me this. When I last stood on this beach, on the worst day of my life, what was the last thing you said to me? Go on, say it.
DOCTOR
I said, "Rose Tyler."
ROSE
Yeah, and how was that sentence gonna end?
DOCTOR (unable to say it out)

ROSE (to the new Doctor)
And you, Doctor? What was the end of that sentence?
The new Doctor leans to her and whispers it into her ear. Rose looks at him, then pulls him closer and kisses him. The Doctor watches them sadly with for a moment, then he turns around and gets inside the TARDIS, followed by Donna. Rose pulls away from the new Doctor as she hears the door closing, she runs towards the TARDIS but now all she can do is watch it dematerialising. The new Doctor walks to her slowly and takes her hand. They look at each other.

Inside the TARDIS, the Doctor leans to a support, devastated. Donna adjust some controls, then starts to talk, trying to divert the Doctor's thoughts from his sorrow.
DONNA
I thought we could try the planet Felspoon. Just cos. What a good name! Felspoon! Apparently, it's got mountains that sway in the breeze. Mountains that move, can you imagine?
DOCTOR
And how d'you know that?
DONNA
Because it's in your head. And if it's in your head, it's in mine!
DOCTOR
And how does that feel?
DONNA
Brilliant! Fantastic! Molto bene! Great big universe, packed into my brain! You know you could fix that chameleon circuit if you just tried hotbinding the fragment-links and superseding the binary, binary, binary, binary, binary, binary, binary, binary, binary, binary, binary, binary, binary, binary (she takes a deep breath) I'm fine!
The Doctor watches her, sad but not surprised.
DONNA
Nah, never mind Felspoon. Know who I'd like to meet? Charlie Chaplin! I bet he's great, Charlie Chaplin. Shall we do that? Shall we go and see Charlie Chaplin? Shall we? Charlie Chaplin? Charlie Chester, Charlie Brown, no, he's fiction, friction, fiction, fixing, mixing, Rickston, Brixton...
She gasps and leans against the console, holding her head. The Doctor walks to her.
DONNA
Oh, my God!
DOCTOR (quietly)
D'you know what's happening?
DONNA (defiant)
Yeah.
DOCTOR
There's never been a human/Time Lord metacrisis before now. And you know why.
DONNA
Because there can't be.
She turns away, unwilling to accept what's happening.
DONNA
I want to stay.
DOCTOR
Look at me. Donna. Look at me.
She turns back to him.
DONNA (her eyes moist, voice trembling)
I was gonna be with you. Forever.
DOCTOR (gently)
I know.
DONNA (wishful)
Rest of my life. Travelling. In the TARDIS. The DoctorDonna.
He just watches her, his eyes full of compassion and sorrow. Donna suddenly realises what's coming.
DONNA
No! Oh my god... I can't go back. Don't make me go back. Doctor, please, please don't make me go back!
DOCTOR (looking into her eyes)
Donna. Oh, Donna Noble. I am so sorry. But we had the best of times. The best.
She looks at him in despair, tears running down her face.
DOCTOR (whispering)
Goodbye.
DONNA
No, no, no, please!
He places his hands on her temples and closes his eyes.
DONNA
Please, no, no!
Images from their adventures flash backwards, ending with the moment she first appeared in the TARDIS.
DONNA
No!
She falls into his arms, unconscious. The Doctor just stands there, holding her tight, terrible sadness in his eyes.

Knocking on the Noble's door. Delighted, Wilf runs to answer it.
WILF
That must be her! Donna?
But when he opens the door, he sees the Doctor sitting on the doorstep, holding the still unconscious Donna in his arms.
DOCTOR
Help me.
WILF
Donna? Donna?
***
Donna is laid on her bed. Wilf leaves the Doctor alone with her, watching her sadly.
***
In the Noble's sitting room, the Doctor explains to Wilf and Sylvia what happened.
DOCTOR
She took my mind into her own head. But that's a Time Lord consciousness. All that knowledge, it was k*lling her.
WILF
But she'll get better now?
DOCTOR
I had to wipe her mind completely. Every trace of me, or the TARDIS, anything we did together, anywhere we went... had to go.
WILF
All those wonderful things she did.
DOCTOR
I know. But that version of Donna is dead. (leaning forward to stress his point) Cos if she remembers, just for a second, she'll burn up. You can never tell her! You can't mention me or any of it... for the rest of her life.
SYLVIA
But the whole world's talking about it, we travelled across space!
DOCTOR
It'll just be a story. One of those Donna Noble stories, where she missed it all again.
WILF
But she was better with you!
SYLVIA
Don't say that.
WILF
No, she was!
DOCTOR
I just want you to know there are worlds out there, safe in the sky, because of her. That there are people living in the light, and singing songs of Donna Noble, a thousand million light years away. They will never forget her... while she can never remember. And for one moment... one shining moment... she was the most important woman in the whole wide universe.
SYLVIA
She still is. She's my daughter.
DOCTOR (abruptly)
Then maybe you should tell her that once in a while.
The conversation breaks when Donna bursts into the sitting room.
DONNA
I was asleep! On my bed! In my clothes! Like a flippin' kid! What d'you let me do that for? (glancing to the Doctor) Don't mind me. Donna.
The Doctor stands up and hold his hand out - she shakes it without looking at him, focusing on her mobile.
DOCTOR
John Smith.
SYLVIA
Mr Smith was just leaving.
DONNA
My phone's gone mad, 32 texts! Veena's gone barmy, she's saying planets in the sky! What have I missed now? (vaguely, to the Doctor) Nice to meet you.
She walks out of the room. The Doctor watches her go, heartbroken.
SYLVIA (coldly)
As I said... I think you should go.

Donna puts a jug of juice back to the fridge, while she talks on her mobile.
DONNA
How thick d'you think I am? Planets! Tell you what that was, dumbo. That's those two-for-one lagers you get down the offy cos you fancy that little man in there with the goatee! Haha! Yes, you do. I've seen ya!
The Doctor appears in the kitchen, unable to leave her without goodbye, even though he knows he doesn't mean anything to her now.
DOCTOR
Donna. I was just going.
DONNA (vaguely)
Yeah, see you.
The Doctor leaves, glancing back to her one last time from the door.
DONNA (on the phone)
I tell you what though, you're wasting your time with that one, because Susie Mair, she went on that dating site, and she saw him... No. No, no, no, listen, listen, this is important! Susie Mair wouldn't lie. Not unless it was about calories! Haha!

The Doctor opens the front door and looks out to the storm outside.
DOCTOR
Ah. You'll have quite a bit of this. Atmospheric disturbance. Still, it'll pass. (almost to himself) Everything does.
Wilf watches him sadly. After a few seconds, the Doctor turns back to him.
DOCTOR
Bye then, Wilfred.
They shake hands and the Doctor steps out to the rain.
WILF
Oh, Doctor... What about you now? Who've you got? I mean, all those friends of yours...
DOCTOR
They've all got someone else. Still, that's fine. I'm fine.
But he looks everything but fine as he stands in the pouring rain.
WILF
I'll watch out for you, sir.
DOCTOR (with emphasis)
You can't ever tell her!
WILF
No, no, no. But every night, Doctor, when it gets dark, and the stars come out, I'll look up... on her behalf. I'll look up at the sky, and think of you.
DOCTOR
Thank you.
He turns and walks into the TARDIS. Wilf salutes as he watches it dematerialise. Inside, the Doctor takes off his drenched jacket. He adjusts some controls, then leans on the console and just stares into space, his eyes full of sorrow and loneliness.
