In breaking news, Maya Hartman, the 21-year-old daughter of disgraced news anchor Dana Hartman, has been arrested for the m*rder of her roommate, Johnny Weston.

A possible connection between the m*rder and the recently reported Bling Ring has come to light.

Our guest tonight is Los Angeles District Attorney Max Gilford.

Mr. Gilford, tell us what this Bling Ring has to do with Johnny Weston's m*rder.

Cue the photo.

We believe that Maya Hartman, along with her roommates Willow Ferrera, Preston Mann, and Johnny Weston, acquired a g*n belonging to performer Ray J when they broke into his home several weeks ago.

Evidently, this so-called Bling Ring doesn't just take objects of monetary value.

Well, entering a celebrity's home, touching their personal items is a brush with fame.

Maya and her friends wanted to feel part of the in-crowd.

That's the dark side of celebrity culture.

Claro.

Gracias.

Wonder who Megan got to replace me.

Not a clue.

Good evening.

Welcome to "LHL."

I'm Dana Hartman, and tonight I'm filling in for Louise Herrick.

Son of a bitch.

We've got a great show tonight.

We should have never left town.

It's been nine years since I've sat in an anchor chair, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous.

But this isn't about me.

It's about finding justice. It's about the truth.

I bet you this was Darin's idea... to get back at me for coming here.

When we win a Peabody, he'll apologize.

Well, I'm not gonna watch this woman ruin my show... without a lot more alcohol.

I'm a mother, just like many of you.

And now my daughter, Maya Hartman, has been arrested for the m*rder of her roommate Johnny Weston.

My guests tonight are the two other roommates who were living in the house on that tragic night...

Willow Ferrera and Preston Mann.

Thank you both for being here.

So, you cut a deal with the district attorney, in essence blaming my daughter, Maya Hartman, for the m*rder of Johnny Weston in exchange for not being charged for the Bling Ring robberies.

Is that accurate?

I wish with all my heart that I had never made that deal.

But I was scared, and I was coerced.

And you'd like to recant your testimony?

Yes, because Maya didn't k*ll Johnny.

How can you be so sure?

Because I know Maya, and Maya's not a k*ller.

She's one of my closest friends.

Tell Dana to wipe that smirk off Preston's face.

Pivot to Preston.

Preston, I sense by the expression on your face that you don't agree with Willow?

That's correct, and I'm not recanting.

Is that because you're the leader of the Bling Ring, and, as such, you'd have the most to lose if you were to recant?

No.

It's because your daughter is the k*ller.

Well, you seem defensive.

Are you worried about being a suspect in this m*rder case?

I mean, Johnny did want out of the Bling Ring, and you two fought about that. Isn't that correct?

I didn't k*ll Johnny, and I can prove it.

I was bowling from around 7:30 to 11:00 p.m., when Johnny was k*lled.

There are dozens of people who saw me there.

Not from 8:05 to 8:57.

What are you talking about?

I'm talking about their electronic scoring system.

You sat out a full round of bowling.

You left the bowling alley for 54 minutes.

That's plenty of time to drive back to the house, k*ll Johnny, and return to the bowling alley.

That is insane!

Tell her that I did not k*ll Johnny.

He didn't. He's telling the truth.

Well, how do you know that?

Preston and Willow slept together.

She could be lying to protect him.

Preston and Willow slept together.

Willow, is it possible you're defending Preston because the two of you are in a relationship?

What?

N-No, we're... we're not in a relationship.

You two have slept together. Isn't that right?

Oh, my God. Did Jake Gregorian tell you that?

So, Preston left the bowling alley, went back to the house, where he sh*t Johnny, and you're covering for him.

Isn't that correct?

No, no.

That's not what happened.

Preston: The truth... I left the bowling alley to scope out Gwen Stefani's house, 'cause we were gonna break in next week.

Well, now, that's a convenient lie.

I took video while I was casing her house...

Time-stamped and everything.

Here. It's on my phone.

I can show it to you.

That's the front yard.

Well, that just backfired on Dana.

That is the side gate.

That is the backyard.

Cut to commercial.

N-Not yet.

I get that you're a mother trying to defend her daughter.

But Maya k*lled Johnny.

She's the only one without an alibi, the only one with g*n residue on her hands.

And she's the one who wrote that she wanted Johnny dead.

And that guy pulling all the strings, Mr. Gregorian, he thinks that he can get his client off by blaming me.

Let's take a break, Megan.

Jake, this is gold.

It's clear you had no idea what she was going through.

Maya was in love with Johnny.

He didn't feel the same way, obviously, since he slept with you.

Okay, enough!

You don't know what you're talking about.

You have no idea!

The truth is...

I k*lled Johnny Weston, because he was predator.

He was sleeping with me and my daughter at the same time,
and when I found out, I went crazy, and I k*lled him.

I give the police permission to go to my safety-deposit box at Pacific Access Bank on Melrose.

There, they'll find the g*n that I used to k*ll Johnny.

My daughter's innocent.

That's it. End of story.

Go tight. Hold on her face.

[Voice breaking] Maya, I'm so sorry.

Oh... my... God.

Jake: Dana?

Dana.

Go away.

I'm not going anywhere.

We need to talk.

I have nothing to say to you.

You just confessed to first-degree m*rder on live TV.

I know exactly what I did.

But you weren't thinking straight, Dana.

You... You were upset... clearly.

The... The pressure of being back on air, you know?

The... The pills you may have taken...

[Chuckles]

...to calm your nerves.

You're not my lawyer, Jake.

You represent my daughter.

You know, given what you just admitted to, you are the one that needs the lawyer.

Now, look, Dana, I-I get it.

You confessed because you want to help Maya.

So do I.

This is not the way.

Please, let me help you.

You want to help me, Jake?

Yes.

Get Maya out of jail.

I want her home. I want her free.

I want her to have a normal life.

I promised her that.

Please, Jake. Help me do right by her.

[Voice breaking] For once in my life, help me do right by her.

Please!

Please.

[Crying]

Louise: Stop moping.

Dana Hartman is a survivor.

She'll do just fine in prison.

Probably be running the place.

It's not just Dana I'm worried about. It's Maya.

She's gonna think her mother k*lled the man she loved.

Yeah, after she slept with him.

You know what? We should get some rest.

We have to get up at the cr*ck of dawn.

I know I have my issues with Dana, but I also know how hard this is on you.

I promise... No more wisecracks.

You want to talk, I'm here to listen and not judge.

Thanks.

I think I just need to get some rest.

[Footsteps approaching]

Mr. District Attorney.

Go ahead.

Didn't take you very long to get here, did it?

Well, I'm a big fan of the show, Jake.

I have heard.

Stand, please.

Surprising turn of events.

[Handcuffs click]

Not so surprising, if you think about it.

You are going to be dropping the charges against Maya, right?

Releasing her, considering that you are now arresting another suspect?

Oh, I'll drop the charges... as soon as I find the g*n and run a ballistics test.

[Sighs, clears throat]

Jake, have you, um, heard from Julia?

No. Why?

No reason.
