(Squawking )

All: whoa!

(All laughing )

(Hen clucking )

(Humming, clucking... )

Perfect!

(Hinge squeaks )

Lovely.

(Clucks )

(Birds twittering outside )

(Slurps loudly )

Mmm, tastes delicious.

(Humming... )

Little bear: hello, hen.

(Chicks cheeping... )

Little bear, are you baby-sitting

My nieces and nephews?

They wanted to visit their auntie hen.

Now?

But I'm getting ready for our luncheon.

(Cheeping... )

Yes, it's lovely to see you, too.

I'm sorry, hen.

Should I take them home?

(Cheeps )

(Cheeps )

No, no, it's always lovely

To see the little darlings.

It's just that I'm so busy.

Maybe we could help.

Want me to pick peaches for lunch?

Thank you, little bear, that's a good idea.

And my little chicks can help me choose

The flowers for the table.

Come on, little chicks

Follow auntie hen.

(Chicks cheeping )

These are my beautiful roses.

Be careful of the thorns.

Oh, that one is beautiful.

Look how pretty it is, little chicks.

(Cheeps )

Oh, my goodness!

Where are your brothers and sisters?

Little bear, where did they go?

Little chicks?

Where are you?

(Cheeping... )

Come out from there, little chickens!

Come out!

Oh, my petunias!

Here's some peaches.

They look delicious.

Thank you.

(Cheeping... )

Oh, no, no, no, no, no!

You stay outside with little bear.

Run along now.

Make two little lines and follow little bear

And please stay out of the flowers.

All right?

(Cheeps )

Follow me, little chicks.

(Cheeping )

That's very nice.

You are good little marchers.

Don't step in the mud puddle.

(Cheeping happily )

(Gasps ) oh, no!

(Cheeping )

Come back!

What happened?

(Gasps )

No, no, no, no, no.

You are getting mud all over the place.

(Cheeping... )

(Clucks )

Oh, no! Not in the house!

Stop!

What's wrong?

Uh-oh.

(Cheeps )

(Cheeps )

(Clucks )

Uh, don't worry, hen.

They won't break anything.

Break anything?

Oh, my nice clean house!

They're swimming in the soup!

Hot soup?

Cold soup.

That's good.

(Clucks )

My cake!

Dear, dear, dear, dear.

(Clattering )

(Rattling )

(Clucks loudly )

Oh, no, little bear!

What should we do?

Don't worry, hen, we'll get them out.

Oh, dear!

Oh, no, little bear, now what?

Owl: hello, there.

Lovely day.

No it isn't, it's a calamity!

A calamity?

What's wrong?

Hen's nieces and nephews are inside

And we can't get them out.

And they're making a mess of everything.

Let me try.

Whoo! Out!

Out you go!

(Cheeping... )

Whoo!

Whoo!

(Cheeping... )

Whoo-ooh!

(Dishes clattering )

Whoo!

(Hen clucks )

Hey!

(All grunt )

(Cheeping )

Oh, dear, dear, dear, dear, dear, dear, dear me!

(Clucks )

(Cheeping... )

Whoo!

(Groans )

Oh...

(Sighs )(sighs )

Don't worry, hen.

We can still have a nice lunch.

(Cheeping... )

Oh, dear.

Emily: hi.

Hello, emily.

Hi, little bear.

We're here for lunch.

Oh, my goodness.

Hello, emily.

(Chicks cheeping... )

I see you have lots of company.

Auntie hen is minding chicks.

I'm sorry, everyone.

I had my house so tidy and now it's a mess.

It's okay, hen.

We'll help you clean it up.

I'll get the mop.

No, no, no.

We'll just have a picnic outside.

Owl: splendid idea.

What about the little chicks?

I'll march them around until they get tired.

Come on, little chicks.

Aren't they adorable?

And so well behaved.

(Both groan )

(Chicks cheeping... )

Little bear: hmm...

Uh, no.

Hmm.

Where could it be?

Little bear, what are you doing?

I can't find my favorite ball.

Hmm, maybe it's...

Oops!

It's gone!

(Growls in frustration )

When did you last play with it?

Um... Yesterday I was showing it to emily.

Then perhaps you left the ball at emily's house.

I don't think so.

Well, why don't you

Go there and see?

All right... I'll go.

Throw it!

To me, to me!

(Clucks )

(Grunts, squawks )

Keep your eye on the ba... Whoa!

Ready, duck?

Put it there, owl!

Oops! (Meows )

I got it! I got it!

I got it!

(Chuckling, meowing )

(Gasps )

(Meowing )

(Chuckling )

Uh! Got you!

This is my ball!

Hello, little bear.

Do you want to play baseball with us?

This is my favorite ball.

Emily said we could play with it.

Hello, everybody.

Oh, emily.

You look wonderful.

In a league of your own.

Hello, little bear.

What do you think?

This is my favorite ball.

I've been looking all over for it.

You left it here yesterday.

No, I didn't.

Yes, you did.

I didn't.

Did.

What are you wearing?

It's a baseball uniform.

We're going to play baseball.

Come on.

You didn't ask me if you could use my favorite ball.

I didn't think you'd mind.

Well... I do mind.

You should have asked.

You don't have to be so grumpy.

I'm not grumpy.

What's going on?

Little bear is grumpy.

You look like a boy.

Oh!

(All gasp and grunt )

Little bear.

This is a baseball uniform

And we are playing baseball

And I can dress any way I like.

Now who's grumpy?

Are we having a spat?

Apparently.

Duck: are we playing baseball?

Ask little bear.

Oh...

(Sighs )

Sure, let's play baseball.

Good. Here are some ground rules.

There's only one base and that's first base.

And that tree is first base.

First base, tree-- got it.

That tree is also where I'll sit and be umpire.

Umpire?

Umpires yell, "you're out!"

I'm out!

Three strikes and you're out.

If you hit the ball

You have to run to the tree

And then back to home plate.

Hit the home plate, got it.

But... If you hit the ball

And somebody catches it, that's a fly ball

And you're out!

Hmm, first base, up and out.

And if a fly catches it, you're out?

Now, if you hit the ball

Past that big rock...

That's a home run.

Fly home! Right.

Everybody got it?

Got it!

Okay, batter up.

Did you understand all that?

Sure.

You're up, hen.

Me?

Ready for my knuckle ball?

Not too fast, now.

(Squawks )

St... Rike one!

Oh...

(Quacks )

(Chuckling )

That would be a foul ball, hen.

Well!

Strike two.

Duck: run, hen, run!

All: run!

(Clucking... )

I got it!

I got it!

Both: I got it!

(Both grunt )

I was calling for it, little bear.

I called for it first.

You did not.

Run to home, hen!

(Squawks )

Safe!

(Clucking )

This is fun.

Are you two in the game or not?

Emily's up.

Batter up.

Duck: hit it, emily.

Smack it over the river.

Let's see what you've got, cat.

I got it! I got it!

Owl: look out!

(Grunting )

I caught it!

(All exclaiming )

You're out!

Good catch, little bear.

Um... Thanks.

You're up to bat.

Oh, okay.

Owl: st... Rike one!

Hen: you can do it, little bear.

Now for my curve ball.

Duck: I got it!

(Quacks )

Little bear is safe at first.

Duck, you're up.

Me? Oh, okay.

Here's the windup.

(Grunts )

It's a fly ball.

A fly ball!

(Quacking... )

Wow...

Owl: duck, come back.

Where is she going?

I think she's flying home.

(Little bear clears throat )

Owl: he's safe!

That was a pretty good hit, little bear.

Your hit was better, emily.

Yes, but you caught it.

I'm sorry.

Don't be sorry.

That's the game.

No, for being a grumpy bear.

I'm sorry for getting grumpy, too.

I like your uniform.

Thanks.

(Laughing... )

Are we playing baseball or what? Come on.

Cat, you're up.

Little bear can be pitcher.

All right.

Let's play ball!

(Yawns )

(Snoring... )

Owl?

Will you please watch lucy for me?

Who? What?

Thanks, owl.

Why?

Oh.

Well, lucy...

What would you like to do?

Play checkers or take a nap?

A nap?

Good choice.

(Snoring... )

(Wind blowing... )

(Quacking... )

(Snoring... )

Hello, owl.

Are you napping?

(Snoring... )

(Sighs )

Gee, maybe I need a little nap, too.

(Sighs )

(Quacking snore )

(Snoring... )

(Quacking snore )

What?

Who's snoring?

(Quacking snore )

Duck! Wake up!

(Squawks )

What's wrong?

What happened?

You're snoring.

I am not.

Well, you were.

Well, so were you.

I wish I was, but your snoring woke me up.

Where's lucy?

Lucy?

Oh, no.

What?

You're sitting on lucy!

(Quacks loudly )

Where is she?

Lucy... Lucy!

Lucy, were are you?

(Gasps )

See, you sat on her.

Duck... What's the matter?

It's lucy.

Duck sat on her.

I didn't even see her.

Poor lucy.

Did I hurt you?

Is she moving?

Duck: no...

Lucy, speak to me.

Is she saying anything?

No.

(Gasps )

Oh, no, lucy's dead!

Poor, poor lucy.

I squashed her.

Dead? What do you mean "dead"?

Isn't she a doll?

She's just dead, that's all.

Yeah.

(Laughs )

Oh... All right.

Oh, dear lucy.

She's dead.

(All exclaim )

And it's all my fault!

No, it isn't, it's mine.

Owl: no, it isn't, it's mine.

Why don't we just say that it's everyone's fault?

Or nobody's fault.

That's a good idea, little bear.

It's nobody's fault.

Duck: but what about lucy?

What will we do?

We'll have a funeral.

Lucy will love it.

Duck (sobbing ): oh, a funeral!

(Quacking sob )

Is this box big enough?

Not quite.

What about this?

No, no...

We can't put lucy in a boat.

Look what I found.

No.

That will never do.

My goodness.

Mother bear: little bear?

What are you doing?

We were looking for a box for lucy's funeral.

Her funeral?

Yes, we accidentally left owl in charge of lucy

And owl accidentally fell asleep.

And duck accidentally sat on lucy...

I squashed her.

And now lucy's dead.

Oh, my.

Do we have a nice box for lucy, mother bear?

What's going on?

Little bear: we're picking flowers for lucy's funeral.

What happened?

Oh, dear, dear, dear, dear, dear.

It's a long story.

Help us dig flowers and I'll tell you.

Little bear: somebody should say something nice.

Dear friends, we are gathered here today

To honor our dear friend lucy.

Does anyone have a few words to say?

(Sighs, quacks sadly )

If I may.

Please, owl, go ahead.

Words cannot convey my affection for lucy.

She... Was a doll.

That's all.

(Clears throat )

I like nice, quiet people.

You could always count on lucy

To be nice and quiet.

Lucy had good manners.

She had excellent manners.

I'd say lucy was the most well-mannered doll

I'd ever known.

Lucy, you had the best mother in the whole world

And she can never replace you...

Never.

(Sighs )

(Sobbing ): oh, lucy!

(Wailing... )

Oh, careful!

Lucy doesn't like dirt on her dress.

Do you, dear?

What was that, lucy?

Huh?

Yes...

Itwas a lovely funeral, wasn't it?

You mean lucy's okay?

Of course.

Lucy's fine.

She wants to

Give you a hug.

Oh, lucy, you're back.

Hey, everyone, lucy's okay!

(All cheer )

Little bear: lucy's okay.

Itwas a lovely funeral.

I almost forgot we were pretending.

I know. I forgot, too.

I almost forgot, too.

It was making me sad.

I was sad.

I must say, I got rather choked up.

Oh, please don't be sad.

You made lucy feel loved.

You're the very best friends any doll could ever have.

Ask lucy if she's hungry.

Very hungry.

Really? So am i.

I'm hungry.

Me, too.

Would anyone like some cookies and milk?

I know just the place.

Come on!

May I carry lucy?

Of course you may, duck.

I'm just so glad that lucy's okay.

Me, too.

Thanks, duck.
