[Toy horse whinnying]

A-ha!

[Toy horse whinnying]

Whoa there, horsie!

Oh, Max?

[Western music playing]

I'm Cowboy Max!

Howdy, Cowboy Max.

Don't forget your horse.



Oops! Careful please, Max.

Okay!

Thank you.

[Ruby and Louise giggling]

RUBY: Come on, Louise, let's try it again.

Ready?

Ready, Ruby!

On three. One, two, three!

♪ One, two, three, four

♪ Skip, skip, and skip some more! ♪

♪ Five, six, seven, eight

♪ Jump, jump, no time to wait!

I'm a cowboy like you! I'm Cowboy Max!

[Toy horse whinnying]

I have a horse too!

Clippity-clop, clippity-clop!

[Toy horse whinnying]

Clippity-clop, clippity-clop!

Clippity-clop!

Whoa!

Hmm...

Lasso?



No lasso.

I need a cowboy rope.

RUBY: Okay, let's do it again!

♪ Skip, skip, and skip some more! ♪

♪ Five, six, seven, eight

♪ Jump, jump, no time to wait!



Hmm...

Phew! I need to sit down for a moment.



Do you want me to count how many jumps you do in a row, Louise?

Sure! Thanks, Ruby!

You can help me count, Lil' Miss Miracle.

On three? On three.

One, two, three!

One, two, three, four,

five, six, seven...

Eight! Eight jumps in a row, Louise!

That was great!

Thanks, Ruby!

Huh?

MAX: Yee-haw!

[Giggling] Wow, Max,

you look just like a real cowboy.

You look great!

Thanks, ma'am.

[Giggling]

But, I wasn't finished playing with the jump rope yet, Max.

We're seeing how many jumps in a row we can do.



RUBY: Hey, I have an idea.

Real cowboys round up cows.

But while we're playing jump rope,

you can round up all your toys.



[Sighing]

Okay.

Thank you, Max.

Ready to go again?

You bet!

♪ Skip, skip and skip some more! ♪

Come along! Let's go!

Giddy-up, horsie!

Clippity-clop, clippity-clop, clippity-clop.



[Sighing]

[Imitating engine roaring]

Beep, beep. Vroom, splat!

[Sighing]

[Giggling] Can you please help me, Louise?

[Western music playing]

Giddy-up, horsie!

[Giggling] Wow! You're really tangled up, Ruby.



Yee-haw! Cowboy Max!

[Trumpeting]



GIRLS: Oh, Max?

Our rope?

[Sighing]

Okay. Thank you, Max.

I have an idea.

Real cowboys go on trail rides.

Why don't you ride hobby-horse around the backyard,

just like you're a cowboy on a trail ride?

Okay.



[Morosely] Clippity-clop...

Clippity... clop.

Clippity-clop... clippity-clop...

Clippity... clop.

Watch how fast I can skip, Louise!

You too, Lil' Miss Miracle.

You can do it, Ruby!



Yes! Keep going!

Whoa!

Yay!

Oh, no!

Huh?

[Gasping in shock]

Oh, no!

Uh-oh!

Maybe I can reach from here?

[Grunting]

Let me try.

[Grunting]



[Grunting, sighing]

She's too high.

Mmm. How are we going to get her down?



Whoo-hoo! Cowboy Max! Ha-ha!



[Grunting in exertion]



First try! Yee-haw!

Cowboy Max!

Yee-haw!



Giddy-up!

Try jumping a little higher, Louise!

Okay!

[Grunting]

Uh, it isn't working. I can't jump high enough.

Hmm... Hmm...



I have an idea!

Ooh, what is it?

We can shake Lil' Miss Miracle out of the tree!

That might work.

You stand here.

Okay. On the count of three,

we'll shake the tree back and forth.

And Lil' Miss Miracle will fall out!

Great idea, Ruby.

One, two, three!

[Straining, grunting]

[Grunting, sighing in exhaustion]

What are we going to do, Ruby?

There must be some way to get Lil' Miss Miracle

down from the tree. But how?

I don't know.

We've tried everything!

Hmm...

MAX: Yee-haw!

Giddy-up!

[Western music playing]

Howdy.



[Roaring]

Huh? You can do it, Cowboy Max.

[Roaring]

Gotcha!

BOTH: Huh?

Cowboy Max! Yee-haw!

Do you think you can help us?

Lil' Miss Miracle is stuck in the tree.

Can you use your lasso to rescue her?

Sure! I'm Cowboy Max!



Ooh, so close!

Try again! You can do it!

Come on, Max!

You can do it, Cowboy Max.



Max, you did it!

She isn't free yet, Louise.

Careful, Max, careful!

Slowly... slow...



Oh, thank you!

A big rescue! Great job, Max!

I'm Cowboy Max!

BOTH: Thank you, Cowboy Max!

Here you go, Ruby.

That's okay, Max. You can play with the jump rope.

Louise and I will share the other one.

And Lil' Miss Miracle too!

That's right.

It's your turn to jump, Lil' Miss Miracle.

Now, just be careful not to jump too high.

This is the poem I wrote for school.

It's called "All About Me."

"I love my dolls, and always give them a hug.

"I've even thrown a party for Can't Sit Up Slug."

[Giggling]

"I'm a student helper in my brother's class.

"Minding the playground

"is a super-fun task.

"Louise is my friend, we have tons of fun.

"Especially boogie-boarding out in the sun.

"I love school projects with Valerie, and being in plays.

"And I always enjoy Grandma's overnight stays.

"I'm learning to juggle and roller skate.

I love coming to school, I really can't wait!"

There's a fly in my ice cube!

[Honking nose]

[Giggling] You are funny, Max.

I can remember all of my poem,

but I'm still a bit nervous

about getting up in front of my class.

You can use some of my funny tricks!

I appreciate the offer, Max, but I don't think so.

Besides, you'll need your jokes and tricks for Show and Tell.

I know a cute bear.

He is brown and named Freddy.

He's not real, he's stuffed.

It's a haiku!

Ohh!

Yes.

A haiku is a special kind of poem

where the first line has five syllables,

the second line has seven and the last line has five.

I think I can remember all of it,

but I brought my index cards, just in case.

[Gasping]

Well, that's a relief!

We don't want a snake slithering around the classroom!
