in the whole world.

Three weeks until Christmas

and the town of Angel Falls

already has a good start
on the holidays.

- It seems a little quiet.

- That's one way to put it.
- Merry Christmas!

- Do I know you?
- I'm sure they're

just in a hurry.

- So when do I
meet my new assignment?

- You're looking at it.
- What do you mean?

- Angel Falls needs
your help, Gabby.

- Wait, the whole town!?
- I know it all looks warm

and festive, but the truth
is this is all

just window dressing...
no pun intended.

You feel it, don't you?

Under the lights
and decorations,

the town of Angel Falls

has lost its Christmas spirit

and they don't know
how to get it back.

- But Michael, I'm really more
of a one-on-one kind of angel.

- Which is exactly how you keep
getting yourself in hot water.

You get too involved,
start bending the rules.

This way, that won't
be a problem.

- But where do I even start?

- Right here.

- Volunteer coordinator?

- Don't worry, I'll give you
a great reference. Oh, and...

There's a suitcase in the trunk.
I packed a few things

for you. And the job
comes with an apartment.

- You always

but this is a very

I'd like to bring up

the Christmas decorations and

people just aren't
volunteering anymore.

- But it's Christmas.

Christmas isn't
what it was here anymore.

- Well, it all started

a few years ago
when the paper mill closed down.

That mill was a big part
of this town.

And all of a sudden, people were
looking for jobs elsewhere.

- Where did they all go?

- Well, a lot of them
pulled up stakes

and moved on.
- Oh.

So what about the people
who still live here?

- Well, most of them
found jobs in other towns.

But that means a longer commute,

which means less time
with friends and neighbours.

- And less time for tradition

and community.
- Mm-hmm.

You feel it more

when Christmas comes around.

We've changed.

We've lost
something important.

I'm just worried

that we won't find a way
to get it back.

- Well, it sounds like I

Christmas tree really soon.

this year since they

cancelled the Christmas pageant.
- The Christmas pageant?

- Angel Falls has sponsored
a children's Christmas pageant

for years, and this would've
been the first year that Jenny

was old enough to be in the
show, but they cancelled it.

- Oh! Well, why
would they do that?

- Oh, you'll have to ask
the mayor about that.

- The mayor?
- Uh, Joe Crosby, he runs

the toy store across the street.
Enjoy your cider. Excuse me.

- So what did you wanna be
in the Christmas pageant?

- An angel.
- Don't give up on

that Christmas pageant
yet, OK?

- Can I have some cookies, mom?

- Mommy's on the phone, sweetie.

- Believe me,
the last thing on earth

I wanted to do was to cancel
the Christmas pageant.

- But you're the mayor.
Couldn't you

do something about it?

Why are you so interested
in the town pageant?

- I... am really interested
in learning more

about what people in Angel Falls
like to do for Christmas.

It'll give me some ideas
for the church.

- Well, you can't hold a pageant

without some place to put it on

and since the community centre
closed last year,

we haven't had much choice.

- Why did you close
the community centre?

- I'll tell you what.

The centre's around the corner.

Take a look for yourself.
That might answer your question.

- Do you think people
will miss the pageant?

- I guess for the past
few years, the pageant hasn't

been quite what it used to be.
And with people moving away

or getting jobs out of town,
folks just kind of...

lost their enthusiasm.
And when the centre closed down,

it just seemed like
it was time to let it go.

- What about you?

- Some of us still remember what
it was like when the whole town

got together for Christmas.
- Really?

- Yeah. Every year,
there was a potluck dinner.

We would all get together,

eat like one big family.

[sighing]
It was a whole lot of fun.

Shame to lose it.

- It really is.

- There's not that much to see.

just driving by,

I heard the community centre
was closed

and I was curious why.

- Well, it's an old
building, you know?

It just needs a lot of work.

the pageant and the potluck.

- How do you know about that?

- I kind of ask a lot
of questions. You'll get

used to it.

- Yeah. As a matter of fact,
I grew up in Angel Falls

so I got a lot of good
Christmas memories here.

- I bet you miss it.

- Yeah. You know,
I should probably

get back to work. I got a lot
of deliveries to make, so...

- Do you work at
the hardware store?

- Yeah, I sure do.
- Do you mind if I tag along?

- What? You wanna ride along
with me while I make deliveries?

- Well, it might be a good way
for me to get to see the town,

since you're from here and all.

So what was it like,

growing up in Angel Falls?

- What was it like?
Um... I don't know.

It's probably the same
as growing up anywhere else,

I guess. It's... home.
It's where you belong.

- That must be nice.

- All over, really.

I never settled down
in one place for very long.

- That's gotta be
pretty tough on a kid,

especially around the holidays.

Maybe that explains why you
love Christmas so much.

- Maybe.

and bringing the community

Angel Falls had lost something.

to get your spirit back

run that place without me, but
things have been a little rocky

lately between her and her mom.

so she misses him a lot.

- Oh, and with Christmas coming,
she'll miss him that much more.
