-[SINGING] It's a beautiful
day in this neighborhood,

a beautiful day for a neighbor.

Would you be mine?

Could you be mine?

It's a neighborly day
in this beauty-wood,

a neighborly day for a beauty.

Would you be mine?

Could you be mine?

I have always wanted to have
a neighbor just like you.

I've always wanted to live
in a neighborhood with you.

So let's make the most
of this beautiful day.

Since we're together, we might
as well say, would you be mine?

Could you be mine?

Won't you be my neighbor?

Would you please,
won't you please,

please, won't you
be my neighbor?

Hi, neighbor.

We're back together again.

I'm glad of that.

I want to show you something.

This is called a sphere.

And this way it looks little.

And when I pull on it this
way, it looks big, doesn't it?

Little.

And big.

You know, this is very
different from the way people

change and grow.

People start out
as little babies,

and they grow little
by little by little,

until they get grown up.

And once they're
grown, they don't

go back to being little again.

Mm-mm.

I wonder how someone could
make something like this.

I have some things
in the kitchen.

Let's try putting
some of them together.

Hi, fish.

Here.

Here's some little blocks.

Do you like building
things like this?

I do.

You know, I was just
thinking about you.

[SINGING] You are my friend.

You are special.

You are my friend.

You're special to me.

You are the only one like
you, like you, my friend.

I like you.

In the daytime, in the night
time, anytime that you feel

is the right time for
a friendship with me.

You see, F-R-I-E-N-D, special.

You are my friend.

You're special to me.

There's only one in
this wonderful world.

You are special.

And if you ever make
something like this,

it'll be the only
one exactly like it--

[KNOCKING]

--in the world.

Let's see who that
is at the door.

Oh, it's Mr. McFeely.

Come in, Mr. McFeely.

-Speedy delivery.

Do you still have that
little and big sphere?

-Yes, I have it in the kitchen.

Do you need it?

-Well, I have a
videotape of the time

I visited the person
who invented it.

And it shows other
things he invented too.

-Oh, I'd love to see that.

Could you stay and
watch it with us.

-I can.

And we can see it
in Picture Picture.

-Very good.
-Here you go.

-Oh, thank you.

-You know, the name of the
inventor is Chuck Hoberman.

-Chuck Hoberman.

-That's right.

-I just wondered how you'd
make something like this.

-Well, now you'll
be able to see.

-Good.

Let's look on Picture
Picture to see

Chuck Hoberman and your
visit with him, huh?

MR. MCFEELY [VOICEOVER]: There
we are, in Chuck's studio.

And the first thing
I saw was a sphere

hanging from the ceiling.

Chuck said, pull the string.

I did, and it got smaller.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
Isn't that's fun?

MR. MCFEELY
[VOICEOVER]: Oh, it is.

And I asked if I
could do it again.

And Chuck said, sure.

Big, little, and then big again.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
Just like the one I have.

MR. MCFEELY [VOICEOVER]:
That's right.

And I wanted to know how
he makes the spheres,

so he showed me.

First, he snaps together
two pieces of plastic

to make an X. He calls
this a Scissors Pair,

and it works like
a pair of scissors.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
I see that.

MR. MCFEELY [VOICEOVER]: Then
he connects four Scissors Pairs

together so they fold
and unfold like that.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
So that's how he does it.

Now, what's that?

MR. MCFEELY [VOICEOVER]:
Well, that's the hub.

It holds the Scissors
Pairs together.

Lots of Scissors
Pairs are connected,

and then there you have
it-- a Hoberman Sphere.

Chuck has lots of ideas.

And he had some
time that day, so he

showed me a few more
of his inventions.

Now, what do you think that is?

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
An accordion?

MR. MCFEELY [VOICEOVER]: No.

I thought it might be
an old-fashioned camera.

But wait.

You'll see what it is.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
Look at that.

A folding case.

What a good idea.

MR. MCFEELY [VOICEOVER]:
Well, I thought so too.

And I told him I
could use one of those

in my Speedy Delivery business.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
I guess you could.

MR. MCFEELY
[VOICEOVER]: And next he

showed me something
even more fun.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
What is that?

MR. MCFEELY [VOICEOVER]:
Oh, you'll see.

He asked me to help him open it.

He pulled on one end, and
I pulled on the other.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]: A tent.

I would have never guessed that.

Your grandchildren would
certainly like that.

MR. MCFEELY [VOICEOVER]:
They surely would.

In fact, I tried it, and
it seemed just right.

Speedy delivery.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
Chuck has lots of good ideas.

MR. MCFEELY
[VOICEOVER]: I'll say.

I had more deliveries,
so I had to go.

But he told me to
come back anytime.

MR. ROGERS [VOICEOVER]:
Do you think you will?

MR. MCFEELY [VOICEOVER]:
Yes, I think I will.

-Isn't it fun to see what people
can make of their good ideas?

-It certainly is.

It looks like you've been making
something out in the kitchen.

-Oh, yes.
Do you want to see?

-I certainly would.

To

-I was using these
little blocks to try

to make something like this.

-Well, you've used
them in your own way.

-Well, that's true.

-I have more deliveries, so
I'll say, speedy delivery.

I'm always glad to share things
with you and your neighbors.

You know me. [SINGING] If
there's anything you want,

if there's anything you
need, McFeely's Delivery

brings it to you
here with speed.

Yes, our speedy delivery
is a speedy delivery.

Speedy Delivery to you.

Speedy Delivery!

-Speedy Delivery, Mr. McFeely.

-Big.

-Little.

-Speedy Delivery.

I'll see you around
the neighborhood.

-All right.

And thanks again.

-You're quite welcome.

Bye bye.

-Bye.

Speedy delivery to you.

I think the fish need some food.

Mm-hmm.

Ready for some food, fish?

You're hungry.

Let's have some make believe.

Just set up the model here.

There's the castle.

The factory, the tree.

Lady Elaine's Museum-Go-Round.

The Platypus Mound.

And what's that?

Daniel's clock.

[KNOCKING]

Well, there's somebody
else at the door.

What a busy day.

It's Mrs. McFeely.

Mrs. McFeely.

-Why, Mr. Rogers.

-What do you have?

-Well, we have a
dog and a puppy.

But we are really
looking for David.

Have you seen him?

-Yes, he was here just
a little while ago.

-Oh, but we missed him.

-Oh, could I visit with a-- oh.

-Oh, sure.

I could use the help.

We have an important
delivery at home.

I'm looking for David.

We've dog and puppy sitting.

-Oh, well, I'll help you
dog and puppy sitting.

Do you want to go
down to the yard?

-Oh, that would be the best.

-I need to know these
dogs and puppies' names.

-OK.

Well, the big one--

-What is your name?

--is O'Malley.

-What is your name?

Hi, O'Malley.

Oh, what a fine dog.

And she's the mom.

-Oh, she's the
mom of this puppy?

-She's the mom.

Yep.

There's your puppy.

-And the little one is Ginger.

-Hello, Ginger.

Oh, they're so soft.

What soft dogs.

O'Malley, yeah,
you're a fine mother.

Yes, you are.

Oh.

Hi, Ginger.

Hi.

-Isn't she sweet?

-Oh, yes.

Is that all right if I
pick her up like that?

-You bet.

-Oh.

-She's a little girl.

She has one sister
and four brothers.

-Come here.

-Come on, O'Malley.

-Come here, Mom.

-And David and I are
sitting for them.

-What do they like to eat?

-Well the little puppy
likes Puppy Chow.

It's a special
food for baby dogs.

And it has a lot of--
theirs has a lot of rice

in it, because it's
easy to digest.

-I see.

Looks like she wants to walk.

That mom likes to walk.

These are springer spaniels.

And they like a lot of exercise.

-They like to play?

Oh, they love to play.

They love to catch the ball.

They love birds.

They chase birds sometimes.

-And you're puppy and
dog sitting today?

-We are puppy and dog sitting
today, and we love it.

But a special delivery
came for David,

and I'm looking
everywhere for him.

-Well, there he is right there.

-Oh, thank goodness.

David.

-Speedy delivery.

Do you have another
delivery for me?

-I do.

It's at home.

I've been looking
everywhere for you.

-Hi, O'Malley.

-I thought I'd
bring the dogs out,

but they were kind of a bit for
me, so Mr. Rogers helped out.

-Well, I'll help you.

-There you are.

-We have more
deliveries, O'Malley.

-Oh, you are very busy with
your service, aren't you?

-A bust day today.

-The speedy delivery service.

Thank you for coming by.

-Well, thanks for helping.

-Speedy delivery.

-Speedy delivery to both of you.

-Bye bye.

-Thank you.
-Let's go, O'Malley.

-Here we go, David.

-You never know who will be
coming by this neighborhood.

OK, make believe now.

Now, the story in
make believe is

that King Friday the 13th
won't let anyone use a yo-yo,

because he can't make
one work himself.

Well, Lady Elaine Fairchilde
has a helicopter called yo-yo

that goes up and up,
instead of up and down.

And Bob Dog was holding
onto a rope that

was dangling from
that helicopter.

So now Bob Dog is
going up and up too.

It's a big, complicated story.

But Lady Elaine
has dropped a note

saying that she needs
Handyman Negri's musical help.

So let's go there now
and pretend some more

about that Neighborhood
of Make Believe story.

[TROLLEY CLANG]

-Oh, and a good day to
you as well, Trolley.

[TROLLEY CLANG]

-What, these?

[TROLLEY CLANG]

-Oh, I'm constructing
something over there.

[TROLLEY CLANG]

-Well, it's something I
hope will help Bob Dog.

[TROLLEY CLANG]

-Oh, thanks.

-Hi, Neighbor Aber.

-Oh, hi, Lady A.

-I still can't find him.

-You're looking
for Handyman Negri?

-Yes.

What are you doing?

-Oh, I'm constructing
something special.

Want to see?

-Sure.

-Right over here.

Here it is.

-What is it?

-Oh, it's a landing
place for Bob Dog.

-Oh, whenever he gets
close enough to land.

-That's right.

Want to help me finish
the construction?

-Sure.

-Great.

-Handyman Negri!

-At your service.

-I've been looking
everywhere for you.

-Oh, I was away teaching
guitar for a few days.

Say, that's a great
construction you've got there.

-Oh, thanks Handy.

It's for Bob Dog.

-Won't he be surprised?

Where is he?

-Somewhere up there.

-With Lady Elaine.

-In a helicopter.

-That won't come down.

And she sent this to you.

[STRUMMING "PLEASE WON'T YOU BE
MY NEIGHBOR"]

-Please won't you
be my neighbor.

I wonder what she means.

-Yoo-hoo, dears!

I've made contact.

-Whom are you talking
with, Miss Templeton?

-I'm talking with Lainey
in her helicopter.

I figured out how this
little headphone works.

I used to be real good in
chemistry and physics and all.

We had a wonderful teacher,
and I just loved learning.

You know what I mean.

-And are you in contact
right now with Lady Elaine?

-She said not to
bother her until we've

found Handyman Negri.

-Well, here I am!

-OK.

Just a second.

Earth to sky, friend to
friend, Betty to Lainey.

Yes, we found him.

OK.

Here's the message.

This helicopter responds
only to guitar music.

If you make music
go up, it goes up.

-Oh, like this.

[STRUMMING]

-She says to stop it.

-I'm sorry.

-She wants guitar
music that goes

down, starting way up high.

-Oh, like this.

[STRUMMING]

-Oh, that's too fast.

She can't steer it.

-Oh, I'm sorry.

How about something like this?

[STRUMMING]

-She says that's much better.

-Do you see them yet?

-Are those Bob Dog's paws?

-I'm not sure.

Could be.

-Isn't that amazing?

A helicopter that
responds to a guitar?

-I think that is
Bob Dog coming down.

We're all ready for
you to land, Bob Dog.

-I hear him.

-Come on.

That's it.

Nice and slow.

Almost there.

That's it.

Keep coming.

Come on.

Doing fine.

Great.

[CHEERING]

-Oh, another
message from Lainey.

She's just about to land, and
she wants you to play, "It's

Such a Good Feeling
to Know She's Alive."

-Hey!

[STRUMMING]

[CHEERING]

-Oh, my mercy.

I'll declare, that friend of
mine, always coming and going.

-Well, well, well.

One big step for womankind.

-You've had us nearly
speechless, Lainey.

-Yeah.

You were a big help, Betty.

Are you all right, Bob Dog?

-I'll say.

I'm fine.

-That was quite a
flight, wasn't it.

-I'll say!

-Lady Elaine, I'm afraid I have
some negative news for you.

-Probably from Friday.

-That's right.

King Friday doesn't
want anyone or anything

with the name Yo Yo
in this neighborhood.

And your helicopter's
name is Yo Yo.

-We'll see about that.

This is a good little machine.

-And it likes guitar music.

-That's for sure.

-How did you discover that?

-Well, as we were going up
and up and up, I thought,

I'd better read
the user's manual.

So I did.

-Well, I've got some food for
you in the kitchen, Lainey.

You must be hungry.

I mean, a long flight like that,
not knowing from to the next

whether you're going
up or going down

is bound to make
a person hungry.

I started cooking as
a child, you know.

-I know, Toots.

And I am hungry.

-You all are welcome
to come in too,

or just talk amongst yourselves.

-I'm going to take Bob
Dog home for some dinner.

I'll deconstruct this
landing place later.

Goodbye for now.

-I'm going to tell
everyone at the castle

about your safe landing.

-Oh, I'll play you over.

-Come on.

-OK.

-Well, thanks again, Toots.

-You're welcome.

-Yeah, OK.

-[SINGING] It's such a good
feeling to know you're alive.

It's such a happy feeling.

You're growing inside.

And when you wake
up ready to say--

[TROLLEY CLANG]

-Yes, at last.

Thanks to descending
guitar music.

[TROLLEY CLANG]

-So Bob Dog got
down from the sky.

And so did Lady Elaine's
Yo Yo Helicopter.

What a story.

Put away these toys.

Do you put away your toys
when you finish playing?

That's really helpful.

I keep thinking about
them coming down.

They were all so pleased.

There.

I'll put these in here.

Did you notice how
Handyman Negri played,

and it sounded like going down?

You know, going down?

And how he played and it
sounded like going up?

Now, what does this
sound like to you?

[PIANO]

And what does this
make you think of?

[PIANO]

There are all kinds of things
that music can remind you of.

I want to play a little
recording for you.

And see if you can tell me
what instrument is playing.

Here's my little machine.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

It's like a dance, isn't it?

Can you dance to that?

[HUMMING]

Do you know that
it's cello music?

I'll let it play
for a little bit.

And I'll get a picture of
my friend who's playing it.

There's a picture of my friend.

His name is Yo-Yo Ma.

I wonder what King Friday might
say about him, since the king's

not allowing any Yo Yos in the
Neighborhood of Make Believe.

Now, here is a
picture of my friend

with his son, Nicholas,
some time ago.

You know, I like to remember
how they made music together,

even when Nicholas
was very little.

I'll just sit right here
and watch both of you.

-OK, Nicholas Now, I haven't
done this on a cello before.

So you just give me--

-One, two, go.

-OK.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

-Very, very nice.

-It's wonderful to be
able to remember times

when you're with
people that you love.

Do you like to do that?

Oh, I know I do.

Well, Nicholas is
a teenager now.

And he and his dad are
still making music together.

I like to think about that too.

[MUSIC PLAYING]

-One of the greatest things
is to be able to play together

and to grow together,
all through life.

Families, friends, all of us.

F-R-I-E-N-D, special.

You are my friend.

Yeah, I like the way you're
growing and playing and finding

more and more ways of being
helpful to your neighbor.

I sure feel that way about you.

You and I have so much
to think about all

the time, so many things to do.

Isn't it fun to be together?

Do you know that the only
way to be really happy

is to find ways of
helping someone else?

And once you've found
those ways, to do them?

[SINGING] It's such a good
feeling to know you're alive.

It's such a happy feeling.

You're growing inside.

And when you wake
up ready to say,

I think I'll make
a snappy new day,

it's such a good feeling,
a very good feeling,

the feeling you know that I'll
be back when the day is new.

And I'll have more
ideas for you.

And you'll have things
you'll want to talk about.

I will too.

Do you know that I
like being with you,

that I like our times together?

You know, people can like
you exactly as you are.

I know I do.

I'll be back next time.

Bye bye.
