ALMA: "Just then, Daniela spots something in the dirt.

What could it be""

JUNIOR: Is it a dinosaur bone?!

CHACHO: [small bark]

CHACHO: [sniffs] [small growl]

ALMA/JUNIOR: [giggles]

ALMA: "Daniela digs until she uncovers... a giant egg!"

JUNIOR: [gasp]

ALMA: "It starts to cr*ck."

JUNIOR: Whoah...

ALMA: "Daniela looks into the cr*ck

and sees something inside." JUNIOR: [gasp]

ALMA: "This discovery will amaze the world!"

[drumroll]

JUNIOR: What?! What is it?!

ALMA: "To be continued..."

JUNIOR: But what happens next?! What's in the egg?!

ALMA: No sé. We're gonna have to read the next book to find out.

JUNIOR: Next book?! I can't wait that long!

ABUELO:¡ Vente, Alma! ¡Vente, Junior! It's Library Day!

ALMA: Well, we don't have to wait that long,

'cause we can borrow the next book from the library today!

JUNIOR: Let's go!!!

JUNIOR: Ready!

ALMA: ¡Lista, Abuelo!

[door closes]

EDDIE: [deep inhale]

Ahh... I can smell the library books from here.

EDDIE: Do-do- do-DOOO! To the library!

ABUELO: Haaha! ¡A la biblioteca!

ALMA/EDDIE/JUNIOR: ¡A la biblioteca!

ALMA/EDDIE/ JUNIOR/ ABUELO: Huh?

ALMA: Abuelo, what's going on?

ABUELO: I don't know, let's go check.

ABUELO: "The library is closed for a month while we renovate""

ALMA: Oh no! JUNIOR: [gasp]

EDDIE: Oh.. plot twist!

ALMA: No new library books for a whole month?!

[sigh]

I'm way, way, waaay bummed.

JUNIOR: Aww,

I really wanted to find out what's in that giant egg!

And, get a new book.

ALMA: Me too.

EDDIE: Me three.

ABUELO: Me four.

JUNIOR: [sigh]

ALMA: [sigh]

EDDIE: [sigh]

ABUELO: [sigh]

ABUELO: Oigan, niños.

What if we look to our bookshelves at home instead?

We'll find something fun to read.

ALMA/JUNIOR/EDDIE: Okay, yeah Abuelo!/Okay, let's try it!/ ¡Buena idea!

ABUELO: Dun-da-da-Dunnn! ¡A la casa!

[trumpet fanfare]

ALMA/JUNIOR/EDDIE: ¡A la casa!

ALMA: This is one of my favorite books,

but I've read it soooo many times.

I wish I had a new story to read.

EDDIE: Yeah, I know whatcha mean. I already know they win the championship.

ALMA: Hey, spoiler alert!

EDDIE: Oops!

ALMA: [giggles]

LUCAS: Alma! Is that Book of the Cat Sitters Club?

You know, the one where they babysit an elephant?!

ALMA: Yeah. Have you read it?

LUCAS: Not yet. I went to borrow it from the library, but it was closed.

ALMA: Want mine? I already read it.

LUCAS: Really?!

LUCAS: Wow, thank you so much!

LUCAS: Oh! Here's one of mine.

Wanna read it?

ALMA: Hmmm...

"You'll spin and flip over the history of these breakdancers."

EDDIE: What!? Did you say "spin" AND "flip?"

ALMA: Mmhmm.

EDDIE: Nice! I'll swap with ya.

ALMA: Thanks, buut...

EDDIE: Oh, right, you already know the ending.

Hang on! I'll get you another book.

ALMA: Hey, Lucas, whaddya think so far?

LUCAS: Uh-huh.

ALMA: I think he really likes the book.

LUCAS: I really like this book.

EDDIE: I found some more books!

Go ahead! Take whatever you want.

ALMA: Thanks, Eddie!

JUNIOR: Who wants to read

Astronaut Chickens in Outer Space!?

RAFIA: Did you say chickens in outer space?!

RAFIA: That's a book I gotta read!

JUNIOR: It's all yours!

RAFIA: Thanks, Junior! I wish I had a book for you...

ALMA: That's okay! We've got a bunch right here!

JUNIOR: Whoa!! Can I look?!

ALMA: Sure!

LUCAS: [laughs] I love this book.

ALMA: Wait a minute! While the library is closed,

why don't WE do a book swap?

EDDIE: That's a great idea, Alma!

JUNIOR: Ummm, excuse me. What's a book swap?

ALMA: Swapping is like trading.

We can trade our own books with each other.

JUNIOR: More books?! Maybe the Daniela Book Two is in here,

and I can find out what's in the giant egg!!

ALMA: What do you think Lucas?

LUCAS: Uh-huh... Oh so good.

ALMA: Alright! Looks like we're doing a book swap!

[crowd chatting]

ABUELO: I think you'll love this poem by Lola Rodríguez De Tió...

"Borinquen, nido de flores donde comencé a soñar-"

WOMAN: [lchuckle]

ABUELO: Here! Have it.

FRANKIE: [laughing] Hey -yo, whatcha got for me?

EDDIE: Hey, Frankie, how 'bout this one about the weather?

FRANKIE: Yeah, man! I love the weather.

EDDIE: This one is great. You can have it, Rafia.

RAFIA: Ooo, thanks, Eddie.

RAFIA: You gotta read this, Alma! Greatest book ever written!

ALMA: "The Case of the Missing Milkshakes" Thanks!

I've never read this one before!

[thunder cr*ck]

EVERYONE: [gasp]

JUNIOR: Uh oh. Is it gonna rain?

FRANKIE: Naaah, it- it's nothin'!

The shape of the clouds means that there's a zero percent chance of rain.

EVERYONE: [happy /relieved walla]

ALMA: That's good!

FRANKIE: You got nothing to worry about!

[thunder cr*ck]

FRANKIE: [gasp]

[rain drops]

FRANKIE: Uhm... On second thought, that one up there is a rain cloud. My bad...

ALMA: Oh no! The books!

EDDIE: Take cover!

ABUELO: Oo, take cover!

EVERYONE: [mumbling] Hurry!/The books!

JUNIOR: Fast! Fast, Alma!

RAFIA: Hurry!

ALMA/LUCAS: Hurry up!/Hurry!

ALMA: This is way way waaay bad!

ALMA: Maybe it's not going to rain?

[birds chirping]

FRANKIE: Uh-uhh... "The rain cycle begins in the ocean when..."

It's gonna take me awhile to finish reading this so...

ABUELO: [laughing] Let's stay on the porch, juuuuuust in case.

JUNIOR/FRANKIE/LUCAS: Good idea, Abuelo/That right there!/Uh-Huh.

ALMA: Let the book swap continue...

on the porch!

ABUELO: Here you go!

[crowd chattering loudly]

ALMA: Lucas!

ALMA: [calling out] Hey, Lucas!

Can you pass me "Invasion of the Grey Ants" please?!

LUCAS: Uh, Yeah sure!

Hey, Rafia, Alma wants "Invitation of the Great Pants""

RAFIA: Eddie! Give me "Conversations with Grape Plants."

JUNIOR: Whooo wants to read this with me?

EDDIE: Got it!

[crowd chattering]

ALMA: History of Old Lamps?

This isn't what I asked for.

[crowd chatter]

ALMA: Trying...to... get... comfy...

Okay!

[crowd chatter continues]

[books hit the ground]

ALMA: Ahhh... Nope. [effort]

We want to swap books, but this isn't working.

[crowd commotion continues]

ALMA: How could we make it better?

I gotta think about this.

[curious music]

ALMA: Here on the porch, I can't even reach the book I want.

And it's really crowded.

ALMA: Okay, a library never feels crowded like that.

There's lots of space for books and people...

And the books are easy to find on the shelves.

ALMA: Why is that?

Ohhh! I know what to do!

ALMA: Rafia! Eddie! Follow me!

EDDIE: [takes a deep breath] Ahhh, fresh air!

RAFIA: Look, I can move my arms again.

ALMA: We need a new place for the Book Swap.

EDDIE: I was hoping you'd say that!

ALMA: It's gotta be indoors and have lots of space,

for the books AND the people.

RAFIA: I think I know the perfect place.

Grab some books and follow me!

[traffic]

[Bangladeshi music plays on the radio]

[door rings]

RAFIA: Nope. This won't work.

ALMA: Yeah, there's not enough room here.

But I know another place with more space.

[traffic]

ALMA: There.

CAT: [meow]

[book hits floor]

ALMA: [sighs]

DOGS: [barks/howls]

ALMA: Nope... not here. Too busy.

[dogs barking]

ALMA: I've got it!

[book hits the floor]

C'mon!

[books hit the floor]

ALMA: Hey, Frankie!

Can we please use the Community Center for our Book Swap?

FRANKIE: Books in the Community Center?

[laughing] Absolutely!

ALMA/RAFIA/EDDIE: Yeah!/Wpohoo!/Yeah!

EDDIE: Thanks, Frankie!

[traffic] [car honking] [subway going by]

FRANKIE: There you go! I cleared some shelves for you.

ALMA: Thanks, Frankie!

EDDIE: This is great! Tons of space...

RAFIA: Not busy!

ALMA: And it's indoors, so it won't rain in here.

ALMA: I love it! Our book swap is good to go!

ALMA: The Book Swap is open for business!

ALMA: Hi, Lucas!

LUCAS: Uh-huh.

RAFIA: Hey, Alma. Here's some more books for the swap.

ALMA: [gasp] NO. WAY!

It's the next Daniela book! Thanks!

RAFIA: You're welcome. It's SO good!

ALMA: Now we can finally find out what's inside that giant egg!

Junior, look what I've got!

JUNIOR: [gasp]

Come on, Alma! Read, please!!

ALMA/JUNIOR: [laughs]

It's definitely SA-WEET

to SA-WAP!

[♪♪♪]

[lively music]

ALMA: "Finder's Keepers"

[birds flying]

ALMA/LUCAS: (sing-songy) Follow the leader, follow the leader!

ALMA: I can fly and touch the sky...

LUCAS: I can fly and touch the sky...

ALMA/LUCAS: [propeller noises]

ALMA: This is gonna be good. Watch!

ALMA: Up in the air and mess up my hair...

LUCAS: Up in the air and mess up my...

Hair?!

No way! I'm not messing up this perfection.

ALMA: [laughs]

LUCAS: DUCK!!

ALMA: Whoa!

[wet spong drops]

HOWARD: Hey!

ALMA/LUCAS: HOOOOOOWARD!

HOWARD: Want to play water tag?

LUCAS: No way! I do not want to get my hair wet.

ALMA: How about... follow the leader?

HOWARD: Hmm... I don't think so...

ALMA: Leapfrog?

LUCAS: [gasp]

ALMA/LUCAS: Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit! Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit!

HOWARD: Oh that looks fun! But, no...

ALMA: How about... Freeze Tag? You're it!

HOWARD: Ah...

HOWARD: Mmm-nah. How about...

ALMA: Wait for it...

HOWARD ...Water Tag!

ALMA: [laughs]

['yoo-hoo' whistle]

HOWARD: Coming, Mommy!

HOWARD: I gotta go.

I'm going to visit my Grandma in New Jersey for a week.

LUCAS: A week?!

HOWARD: Yup! See ya!

ALMA: Bye, Howard!

LUCAS: See ya, Howard!

LUCAS: I'm the leader now, Alma.

LUCAS/ALMA: (sing-songy) Follow the leader! Follow the leader...

ALMA: [giggles]

LUCAS: Woohoo!!

ALMA: Wooho- Whoa? What's that?

LUCAS: What's what?

ALMA: There's something on the fence...

LUCAS: Uh.. where exactly?

ALMA: [effort]

ALMA: No way... is it?

It might be... It couldn't be...

Could it?!

LUCAS: What? Where?

LUCAS: WHAAT???

ALMA: Woohoooo-eeee!!!

LUCAS: I'm following, but I'm still the leader!

ALMA: [gasp] LUCAS: Huh?

ALMA: Whooa...

ALMA: Hi! You're so pretty.

Hmm... I wonder how she got up there?

LUCAS: I wonder who she belongs to?

ALMA: I don't know.

[kids laughing in the distance]

LUCAS: Maybe she doesn't belong to anyone?

Poor doll. She needs a home.

ALMA: I have a home!

Do you think... I should keep her?

Or... maybe I should put her back?

LUCAS: You could, but.. what if it rains? And she gets cold?

LUCAS: [in higher voice] "My hair's all wet and I'm freezing."

"Brrr. I wish I weren't on this fence!"

ALMA: I wouldn't want that to happen.

LUCAS: No way. And you know what they say... finders keepers!

ALMA: Finders keepers, huh? Yeaaah, finders keepers.

[bike bell rings]

LUCAS: Oh, gotta go, Alma. It's my weekend with my mom. See ya!

ALMA: Bye!

[in higher voice] "Will you take me home with you, Alma?"

I'd love to!

JUNIOR: Hi, Alma!

ALMA: Ahh!

PAPI: Whatcha got there, Alma?

ALMA: A doll! I found her up on the fence.

PAPI: On the fence? Huh.

ALMA: What?

PAPI: Sometimes when people find something that's lost,

they leave it on the fence for everyone to see.

ALMA: Really? Why?

PAPI: So the owner will find it.

ALMA: I didn't think of that...

JUNIOR: MhmMm, ahh... Hm...

Steggie thinks somebody in the playground must have dropped her.

Good thinking, Steggie!

ALMA: [sigh] Hooo-kay,

why don't I make sure she doesn't belong to anyone on the playground?

PAPI: Buena idea, Almita.

ALMA: Oh, is this yours?

GIRL: [indicating no] Nnn-Nn.

ALMA: Excuse me, is this yours?

BOY: [no] NnNnn.

ALMA: Excuse me, is this your-

Hi! Is this your dol- Um.

Is this doll either of yours?

ALMA: That's everyone here!

[gasp] Sa-weet!

JUNIOR: ROAAR!!!

PAPI: Ahhee!

JUNIOR/PAPI: [giggles]

ALMA: She doesn't belong to anyone here, Papi!

PAPI: Ohhh, ookay.

So she must belong to someone who's not here.

ALMA: [sigh] I didn't think of that either.

JUNIOR: I'm glad you're not lost, Steggie. [kiss]

ALMA: I really want to keep this doll. But...

Arghh. What should I do?

I gotta think about this...

JUNIOR: Ah, Steggie, where are you? Ugh, not here!

ALMA: This kind of reminds me of that time Junior couldn't find Steggie.

JUNIOR: (sad) Steggie... where are you?

ALMA: He missed Steggie so much it made him way, way, waaay sad.

ALMA: I wonder if whoever lost THIS doll

feels way, way, waaay sad too.

GIRL: Hmm... dolly, where are you? I miss you!

JUNIOR: Woo! Steggiee! Mwah, mwah, mwah, mwah!

ALMA: Junior was so happy when he found Steggie.

[sigh] I know what to do.

ALMA: We've gotta find out who this doll belongs to.

Because whoever lost her is probably feeling sad.

PAPI: I like where you're going with this.

ALMA: Hmm... Could we put up some signs?

PAPI: ¡Claro que sí!

[rake scraping the ground]

ROSE: The bulletin board is all yours, madam.

ALMA: [giggling]

PAPI: Going up!

[birds chirping] [traffic]

ALMA: I'm gonna miss this doll.

But, since I found her in the park,

guess you should take her.

PAPI: Alma, why don't you take care of the doll until the owner calls?

ALMA: Really, Papi?!

ROSE: Heyyyyyy! I'm down with that.

PAPI: And if no one claims the doll in a week,

then I think, you can keep her.

ALMA: [gasp]

ROSE: Okay, then, I'll leaf -- I mean, LEAVE her with you! [giggle]

[music ends] [wind blows by]

[subway passing by]

ALMA: One week... and then she's all mine.

[upbeat exercise music]

ALMA: (out of breath) [exhale] Yeah! Get your heart pumping!

Yeah! Let's go! Yeah!!

[she turns music off]

ALMA: (out of breath) Ahh, exercise is super important!

[front door opens and closes]

ALMA: Did anyone call about the doll?

PAPI: Nope.

ALMA: Uno, dos, tres! Uno, dos, tres!

ALMA: Did anyone call about the doll?

PAPI: Nope!

[knocks on window]

ALMA: Hmm?!

PAPI: MmHmm.

♪♪♪

[door opens]

PAPI: Noope.

♪♪♪

[piano]

PAPI: NOope!

♪♪♪

JUNIOR: Whoooa, Dippy.

ALMA: Giddy-up, Doll!

PAPI: Yeehaw!

Nope!

ALMA: [giggles]

[Music ends] [subway going by]

ALMA: "And so Carlotta Clues said, 'This case is closed!'

"The End."

She loves it when I read to her.

PAPI: Guuuuuess what? No call today.

ALMA: [gasp]

Woohoo!

ALMA: [gasp] That's one week!

You're all mine!

PAPI: [chuckles] Not quite...

PAPI: We've got to take all the signs down

and triple check that no one has claimed her.

ALMA: First thing, tomorrow?

PAPI: Of course, Almita. Mwah.

ALMA: Well, you're almost mine.

[wind blows by] [birds chirping]

ROSE: [humming]

ALMA: Hi, Rose!

ROSE: What's up, people?! Anybody call you about the doll?

ALMA: Nope! Did anyone call the park?

ROSE: Nope!

ALMA: Does that mean she's...

[gasp] she's..... she's...

PAPI: Well...yes, I guess she's-

HOWARD: Tallulah!

ALMA: Huh?

ALMA: Hey, Howard. Who's Tallulah??

HOWARD: THAT'S Tallulah! You found her!

ALMA: (quietly) Say what?!

HOWARD: I lost her in the park on the day I went to visit my Grandma. Remember?

We played water tag? Well... almost.

ALMA: Oh.. Here you go, Howard...

HOWARD: Aw, thanks for taking care of her, Alma! You're awesome!

ALMA: You're welcome.

PAPI: ¡Muy bien! You did good, Almita.

You got Tallulah back to her family.

HOWARD: I love playing with Tallulah.

Just as much as I love playing water tag.

ALMA: Really?

HOWARD: Really.

ALMA: Howard, I just thought of something we can play together!

HOWARD: Hm?

[cheerful music]

[wet sponge squish]

HOWARD: [chuckling] Whoa!

ALMA: HA!

ALMA/HOWARD: [laughs]

ALMA: You missed!

HOWARD: You know what Alma?

You and your banana can borrow Tallulah anytime.

She has fun with you

ALMA: For real?!

HOWARD: Yeah! You can be Auntie Alma.

ALMA: Aw! That's way, way, waaay sa-weet!

Well, I didn't get to keep Tallulah,

but at least Howard and I found something we could play together-

[SPLAT]

ALMA: HOOOOWARD! [giggles]

ALMA/HOWARD: [laughs] ALMA: I'm gonna get you!

ALMA:Oh, so close! HOWARD: Alma! [laughs]

ALMA: Ooh, you missed!
