Oh, my. What a beautiful night to watch the moon rise.

Yeah...

Not a cloud in the sky.

I hear it's going to be a full moon tonight.

Ooh, a full moon?

Great.

Um, full of what, Bob?

Huh? Oh.

Oh, when the moon looks completely round,

everyone calls that a "full moon."

But it's not actually full of anything. Oh.

At least, I don't think it is.

Hmm.

[ gasps ]

Look, there it is!

Wow... it's so... so...

Orange?

Or is it red?

I'd call it, uh... "orangey-red."

It kind of looks like a rash I once had.

I've never seen the moon look like that before.

Me neither.

[ trembling ]

Wartz?

Yes, Bob?

You don't suppose the moon actually has a rash, do you?

Oh, I don't know, but it is very orangey-red.

[ gasps ]

The moon could be sick.

We-we have to get it some medicine.

But-but how?

I-I don't know if I can hop all the way up there.

No, hopping isn't good enough, Wartz.

We need someone who can fly.

[ both gasp ]

Burdette. Burdette.

[ sleepily]: It's a great honor to win this award:

The Year's Most Beautiful Bird.

Oh, thank you. Thank you. Thank you, thank you, thanks.

Burdette? Burdette?

Wake up.

Thank... huh?

Wha...? What's going on?

The moon is sick.

We need you to fly me to the moon

to bring it medicine.

What? Fly to the moon?

Huh?

Is this a dream?

[ yawning ]: Because I liked the other dream I was having.

[ sighs contentedly ]

Thank you.

Thank you. Thank you.

Wake up, Burdette.

It's not a dream.

Just look at the moon for yourself.

Huh? Where?

Oh, my!

Oh, it's beautiful.

But it is a strange color.

Sort of an...

Orangey-red? Exactly.

Orangey-red, well, that's what I was going to say.

That's because it has a rash.

See? I told you it was sick.

Well, how do you know it's sick?

Maybe the moon is blushing.

Maybe it's upset or embarrassed.

Embarrassed?

What could the moon be embarrassed about?

Oh, I don't know.

There are all sorts of things to get embarrassed about.

Look, Burdette,

if you don't think you can fly to the moon, that's okay.

We'll just get Stripey the bee to do it.

Although, Wartz may have trouble flying on her back.

Stripey the bee?

I can fly much farther than she can.

All right, I'll do it.

I better start limbering up.

A-one, and a-two, and a-one, and a-two.

Wartz, you stay here.

I'll go get the medicine from Snook.

Right.Okay.

I'll see you later.Cool.

One, and a-two, one, and a-two.

One, and a-two.

[ snoring ]

Snook!

Snook, wake up! Ah!

Snook!Oh, Bob!

Are you okay? What's going on?

It's the moon, Snook, it needs medicine.

Burdette is going to fly it up there,

and Wartz is going to go with her...

Whoa, whoa.

Burdette's going to fly to the moon?

Uh, I don't know about that.

It's pretty far.

Um, why, if you don't mind me asking,

is Burdette planning on making this trip?

Because the moon is sick-- look at it.

[ gasps ]

Whoa... that is something else.

I'll say!

I think it's got that rash that I had.

Bob, why do you think the moon is sick--

it looks kind of beautiful to me.

But it looks so different, and, well, um, orangey-red.

Orangey-red. Well, you're right,

but it looks different other nights, too.

Sometimes the moon looks just like a little sliver.

Other times,

it looks as big as

the biggest grapefruit you've ever seen.

But it's still just the same old moon.

Oh, really?

But how?

I don't get it.

Hmm... Well, uh...

let's see if Madge has something about this

that can help me explain.

Okay, Snook.

The moon? Sick?

[ laughing]: Oh, my!

Oh, why that's impossible.

But it's all, well, orangey-red.

It looks just like my rash.

It was really disgusting.

Oh, my. A rash, you say?

My dear, only living things get rashes.

The moon is not a living thing.

It's not?

Well, then what is it?

Well, actually, Bob, the moon is made up of

many different kinds of dust and rocks

that all come together in one round object.

It's kind of like a very big rock.

A rock?

I've never seen a rock that big or round--

and up in the sky.

Well, it's a big one, all right,

and it's very far away.

Yes, and I'm afraid Burdette

would never be able to fly there.

But if it's a rock, how can it change its shape and color?

And how can it be so bright?

Good questions, Bob.

Now let me see...

Ah, here it is!

This is a chart of the sun, Earth and moon.

See?

Sun, Earth, and moon.

Wow, that little thing is the moon?

The real one seems so much bigger to me.

Is it supposed to be so small?

You'd be surprised, Bob, but the moon

is a lot smaller than the Earth.

And it looks darker, too.

Well, the moon does not have its own light, like the sun has.

It seems to shine,

but actually it is reflecting light from the sun,

like a mirror.

Wow, the moon is reflecting the sun.

But, then, why doethe moon look like my rash tonight?

I've never seen it look like that before.

That's because of the sky around us.

Really?

Yeah, Bob, we can't see it,

but there are tiny little particles in the sky around us,

and when the light passes through these particles,

it changes colors.

Exactly.

And that light can make the moon seem orange or yellow.

Cool!

I can't wait to tell Wartz and Burdette the good news.

Yeah!

Uh, Bob, what were they doing when you left them?

[ gasps ]

I forgot!

Wartz and Burdette might already be on their way to the moon!

I've got to stop them!

[ shivers ]

Hmm, maybe I should go check on them, too.

See you, Madge.

, ...

Phew!

I'm getting tired, Wartz.

Maybe we should take this moon trip tomorrow.

Yeah.

By the time we get to the moon, it could be daytime already.

[ yawns ]

Well, Wartz, why don't we rest for a little bit,

just till Bob comes back?

[ yawns ]

Good idea, Burdette.

Just till Bob comes back.

Want to snuggle?

Okay.

Guys, guys, guess what!

The moon doesn't have that nasty rash

that I had on my...!

It's just...

Oh, my.

I guess they got tired limbering up.

Do you think I should wake them?

[ yawns ]

Maybe not.

I think I'm getting kind of sleepy, too.

Maybe I'll just curl up here, too.

[ whispering]: Good night, Wartz.

Good night, Burdette.
