I'm glad everyone could make it to our club meeting today,

unlike last week, Lidia.

- I had a lacrosse game.

- Fair enough.

Onto our first order of business.

It's City Island Flag Day

and we need club flag for the parade.

Did you get all that, Club Secretary Mark?

- Can't talk.

Too busy writing down what Mark is saying right now.

- It has to be the coolest.

What should it look like?

I open the floor for suggestions.

- I know! the flag should be a picture of a hat.

Everyone loves hats.

It's very relatable.

- Ooh! The flag should have a pepper shaker.

- And a salt shaker.

- [Both] Spice it up.

- The flag should have a kite.

I should know, I'm basically a flag already.

- I think the flag should have a mailbox.

- You don't think the flag should have a marker?

- Oh yeah, I vote marker.

That's better.

- The flag should have a light bulb.

They light up, they lead clubs.

It's the obvious choice.

All those in favor, say aye.

- [Kids] Nay.

- Kite. - Hat.

- Pepper. - Salt.

- Light bulb.

- I need soundproofing.

Give it a rest, kids.

- Oh man, this could be the worst Flag Day ever.

- What's that music?

It's making me swell with pride.

[majestic music]

- What seems to be the problem, kids?

I sense young spirits flagging.

- [Kids] City Island Flag!

- Please keep your applause brief.

I have a very busy schedule.

[kids applauding]

Now, what seems to be the problem?

- We're making a flag for Flag Day

and we couldn't figure out what it should look like.

It's for our club, the City Island Cool Kids Club.

- First off, top-notch name, very cool.

Second, never try to make a flag without consulting a flag.

That's a red flag.

[ominous music]

Not you, red flag.

Get outta here.

[defeated music]

Let me start by asking you this.

What is a flag supposed to do?

- Be impressive.

- Have pretty colors.

- [Both] Be a background for selfies.

- All true.

But most importantly,

flags are meant to inspire awe and civic pride.

Take me, I'm made of a few simple,

but very powerful symbols.

- What's a symbol?

- A symbol is a picture or shape that represents an idea.

- What do the symbols on your face mean?

- Excellent question, little kite.

I love talking about myself.

The C represents City,

the I is for Island,

and the blue is the magnificent water

that surrounds City Island.

The five points of the star

represent the boroughs of City Island.

Together, they make up the community.

- Wow.

- I got it.

We can use symbols to represent how cool we are on our flag.

- [Kids] I love that.

- My work here is done.

Now that's a decent looking flag.

- [Kids] Thanks.

- What do the symbols mean?

What's the intel?

- [Watt] The hearts represent us.

- [Windy] And they're wearing sunglasses because we're cool.

- Impressive symbolism.
