KID: We're going to bead necklaces today.

GIRL: Beading is a way to learn our culture.

These are instructions for beading necklaces.

Step one, choose your colors.

BOY: These are the beads.

Red bead, a black bead,

and right here is a feather made out of bone.

Step two, tie a knot.

Step three, use a piece of moose hide

to keep the beads from coming off.

Moose hide is really tough.

If we didn't put the moose hide, the beads would just fall out.

GIRL: Step five, use your center beads.

Look at my center.

Two feathers and one fish.

Uh, where's your center?

(laughs)

Oops, I skipped that step.

I have to take out...

This time, I'm gonna put the center in.

This is a grizzly bear claw.

It's special because we have grizzly bears around here.

I made these for Tooey when he was six years old.

When we find the porcupine,

we take this towel and gently do this over him.

Then, the quills get caught in the towel.
