[School bell rings]

- I'm angelina ballerina,

And today I'm learning tap dancing,

But I'm thinking about lunch.

[Upbeat music]

[Bell rings]

[Music stops]

- And we'll finish this lesson after we take our break.

- I want to sit next to ms. Mimi.

- I want to sit wherever there's a plate full of cheese.

[Both giggling]

- I'm so hungry,

I'm not even going to take my tap shoes off.

- Me neither.

Let's go.

[Pleasant orchestral music]

[Tapping]

- Hello?

[Tapping]

Ah...ah...

[Tapping]

[Tapping]

Gulp!

Hello?

[Tapping]

Hello? Is anybody here?

[Tapping]

[Intense tapping]

Eek!

[All gasp]

Double eek!

- Gracie, what's wrong?

- Are you all right?

- [Breathing heavily]

There--there is a gh-ghost in the roquefort theater.

[Both gasp]

- Why do you think it's a ghost?

- Because the ghost went "tap, tap, tap,"

Like in the book ms. Mimi read to us.

[All gasp]

- Oh, I remember that book.

- And then there was no sound except...

[All gasping]

A knock at the door.

[Taps]

[All scream]

[Chuckles]

Don't worry.

It's just a story.

- I wasn't afraid.

Ghost stories don't scare me.

- But sometimes these stories can be true.

What if there is a ghost in roquefort hall?

- Oh, I wouldn't like that.

- Me neither.

- What about you, a.z.?

You're really, truly brave.

You aren't afraid, are you?

- Who, me?

Afraid?

[Chuckles]

I'm from new cheese city.

I'm never afraid.

Don't worry, girls.

A.z., Ghost-catching mouse, is in the house.

- Oh, no. We can't be ghost catchers.

It's too scary.

- All right, if you're so afraid,

We can tell ms. Mimi about it over lunch.

[Stomach rumbles]

- Or...

We could introduce ourselves

And try to be this ghost's friend.

- Be the ghost's friend?

Oh, no, no, no.

There is no way I will make friends with the ghost.

I'm afraid.

- Me too.

- Me too, but a.z. Isn't.

He can lead the way.

- Mm-mm...

[Gulps]

Yeah, um,

That's right.

I said I wasn't afraid,

And so...i'm not.

I'll just go right in there, shake that ghost's hand,

And say, "hello, ghost."

Yeah, that's what I'll do.

[Inhales]

[Quietly] ready or not, here we come.

[All sigh]

Okay, so far, so good.

Who's with me?

[Together] we are!

[Mysterious music]

- Say something brave.

- Yo, ghost!

A.z. Here.

- Hello, mr. Ghost.

Are you there?

[Whispers] you try.

- Uh...

Hi, there, mr. Ghost.

Nice weather we're having, isn't it?

- I think the ghost is gone.

Time for lunch.

- Maybe gracie should try too.

Gracie, where are you?

- Gracie.

- Gracie.

- C'est moi.

It's me.

[All sigh]

I don't want to talk to this ghost.

- If we meet him, maybe he won't seem so scary.

- Oh...

Hello, ghost?

[Tapping]

[All gasp and shriek]

- Well, vici was wrong.

We met this ghost, and he isscary.

[Rapid tapping]

[Syncopated tapping]

- Huh?

Wait a minute.

This ghost has rhythm.

[Together] what?

- That ghost went "tappity tap tap"

Like this.

[Clapping rhythmically]

- Wait, aren't you afraid of the ghost?

- [Clapping rhythmically]

Nothing with rhythm this good could ever be scary.

[Rapid tapping]

This ghost is the best.

[Clapping rhythmically]

He's got awesome rhythm, just like me.

Hip-hop is all about doing what the other guy can do

And then doing something more.

- Tap dancers do that too.

Watch this.

Here's what the ghost sounded like.

[Clacking]

And then a.z. Added a rhythm that sounded like this.

[Clapping rhythmically]

And this is all me.

[Clacking]

- [Clapping]

[Applause]

- It's my turn to dance with the ghost.

Everybody knows I am the best tap dancer.

[Rhythmic tapping]

[Cheery instrumental music]

Voila.

- Well, don't forget that you're dancing with a ghost,

And aren't you afraid of ghosts?

- Not anymore.

Now that I've met this ghost, he is mon ami,my friend.

[Tapping]

My goodfriend.

- He's my friend too, and I bet you can't do this.

- I bet I can.

- No one can do it like this.

- What about this?

[Tapping]

- Later, ghost.

- Oh!

- We're coming.

Maybe we were right all along about ghosts being scary,

Because this one sure scared us.

- Ms. Mimi!

[Together] ms. Mimi!

- Ms. Mimi! - Ms. Mimi!

- Ms. Mimi!

- Ms. Mimi!

- Huh?

[Together] ms. Mimi!

- What's wrong?

- There's a ghost!

- There's a ghost in roquefort hall.

- And it's dancing.

- One at a time, please.

- There is a ghost in roquefort hall,

And he goes...

- Tap tap tap tappity-tap.

- He's really good.

He's got rhythm.

- And so we danced with him.

- Like this: tap tap tap tappity-tap.

- And we all wanted to be better than everyone else,

And now the ghost is...

- Totally mad.

- A.z.'S right.

- A ghost?

Are you sure?

- Oui.

- Definitely.

- It was a ghost.

- And you're sure this "ghost" was mad?

Because when dancers try to one-up each other,

It's a great thing.

It's a way for your friends to challenge you to be better.

- So the ghost was just being a good friend.

- I knew that.

I knew he wasn't scary.

Yeah, uh, I did.

The only reason I ran away so fast

Was because I wanted to tell ms. Mimi and...

Okay, I was a little afraid of the ghost.

[Laughter]

- If there is a ghost...

[Rhythmic tapping]

Listen.

[Rhythmic tapping]

All: huh!

- Hey.

The ghost is in the yard.

- Yes, and so is a family of woodpeckers.

They are making their home

Up in the roof of camembert academy.

[Tapping]

[Laughter]

I would imagine their tapping would sound very loud

Inside roquefort theater.

- Gracie, where are you going?

- I think we should introduce ourselves

And become friends.

- You are so right.

- Hello! Woodpeckers!

[Tapping]

[Tapping]

[All tapping rhythmically]

- It doesn't matter that our new friend

Turned out to be a woodpecker instead of a ghost.

What really counts is, he's a good friend

And he's got rhythm.

Now it's time to meet camembert's shining stars.

- My name is leanne.

- I'm kayla.

- I'm hector.

- The name of our group is the keltic dreams irish dancers.

We're from the school p.s. In the bronx.

You don't have to be irish to do irish step dancing.

Our teacher, caroline duggan, is irish, but none of us are.

We're all from different countries,

And we all do it together.

- The part when we do the competition,

It's not really, like, a competition,

But we just make the dance feel fun for us.

[Shoes clacking]

- Making the sound with irish dancing hard shoes

Is one of the most important things.

When we stamp, it's, like, it makes so much noise

That we make the floor shake.

- I always practice at school and at home,

And we lived in a house, so then people downstairs,

They said, "knock it off," because I was, like, too loud,

So I had to practice outside.

- In our school, when we do shows for them

And then when we go back to our classes,

They always ask, "can you teach us that?

Can you teach us this?"

So it's like people want to be like us.

- What I like about irish dancing

Is that we have fun.

We go to new places.

- We've been to city hall, to ireland twice,

And chicago and washington.

And in ireland,

We performed for the president, mary mcaleese.

- I love irish dancing.

It's so fun.

It's like a dream come true to me.

- I'm angelina ballerina,

And here I am at one of my favorite spots,

The lunch table.

Every day at lunch, my friends and I

Talk about the dance steps we've learned,

And then we talk about the fun we're going to have

In the afternoon.

This isn't just a lunch table.

It's a friendstable.

- Guess who.

- Alice!

[Both giggling]

- [Gasps] wow.

Our "best friend forever" wand.

- I thought it was lost,

But I found it in the back of my closet.

- Remember when we waved the magic wand

And we were the fastest running jumpers ever?

Hello, I'm angelina ballerina,

And today I'm watching my friends

Perform an irish step dance.

Do you see how their feet and legs move quickly

But the top part of their bodies hardly move at all?

They're wearing hard shoes that are like tap shoes,

Which make a sound every time they hit the floor.

Tap actually began with irish step dance.

It's stupendous to watch and even more fun to try.

- Hola,marco here.

I know what that is.

It's a marimba.

Marimbas were first made in africa and latin america.

They hit the wood blocks with the mallets,

And those tubes underneath help make that cool sound.

A drum is another kind of percussion instrument,
