Arin, Aruzia,
that was terrific.

You play those real good.

Thank you.
We've been practicing
for the royal banquet.

Yes, we composed that song to
honor you, our special friends.

-Oh, thank you.
-Grubby: Uh, Aruzia?

Would you mind if I
played a song with you?

Not at all, Grubby.
Do you play the recorder?

Or perhaps my lute
would be more to your liking.

Well, I sort of had
something different in mind.

-[laughing]
-I whipped this
together myself.

How unusual.
What do you call it?

Hmm. I don't name them,
I just play them. Ha ha.

[playing music]

Five instruments
are better than two.

[playing music]

[Grubby laughs]

-[shouting]
-[pig squealing]

[shouting]

[shouting]

The animals--
they're escaping!

Whoa, easy!
Steady, big fella!

Yikes!

Whoa!

Grubby, help me!

Okay, I'm coming!

Come on, come on, now.
It is I, Prince Arin.

Well, at least they
didn't all get away.

No, but let's catch
the ones that did before
they overrun the kingdom.

Okay, Prince Arin,
I can use the exercise.

-Can you ride a Clop-ed?
-I think so.

Good! Come on!

-Now what do we do?
-We don't fall off.

Good idea, Princess.

Royal guards, watch out!

Ahh!

Ahh!

[splashes]

[distant rumbling]

[gasps]

[screams]

Get along, there!

Excuse me, Father.
Good day, Mother.

-Teddy, meet my parents.
-Pleased to meet you!

I say,
wasn't That Aruzia?

Yes, and that must be
one of their friends.

I wish they'd play outside.

Ha ha! Reminds me
of when I was young.

I can't believe all these, uh,
years have passed, Eunice.

Yes, Newton, but we've both
fulfilled our, uh, dreams.

I became a doctor,

and you're a brilliant,
uh, inventor,

just as we've always dreamed.

Yes. Oh, I remember
I felt the, uh--

when I first met you.

[rumbling]

Oh, and it seems to be
happening again!

Teddy:
Gimmick, Doctor,

[both laughing]

Can we head them back
to the stable, Aruzia?

We'll give it a try,
Teddy. Follow me!

If we turn left
at the next corridor,

we can lead them outside
through the great hall.

Okay, Aruzia, I'll try.

Can I help you down, dear?

Just move over, darling,
so I don't land on you.

On second thought, maybe you
better stay up there.

Aruzia, dear, play
with the animals outside.

Yes, Mother.

Whoa!

Oh, no, it's got me cornered.

Okay, come on.
I can lick you any day.

Ha ha. I guess you
licked me after all.

Now, where did that bird go?

[chuckling]

Oh, thank you, my friend.

You're welcome.

Hey, look,
here they come.

They're leading
the animals back.

Whew!

Oh! That was an exciting ride.

I'll say! And it was nice
meeting your parents, too.

I'm glad everyone
is all right.

Yeah, somebody
could have been hurt.

And all because that jester guy
scared all these animals.

Hmm. You may have
a point there, Grubby.

I must speak to him about that.

First, Arin,
I think we'd better find
the rest of the strays.

That should be
the last of them.

Teddy: They look very calm.
I don't think we'll have
much trouble.

Aruzia:
Very well. Let's be
on our way, shall we?

Follow me, everyone.

Grubby, I think you'd make
an excellent farmhand.

The animals seem
to like you very much.

I guess you're right. Ha ha.

an exciting day.

to fight them with.

we get there?

Oh... I hadn't thought of that.

rumbling sound?

wretched Gutangs

had you not happened along.

is in your debt.

Yes, farmers are the
backbone of the kingdom,

especially in these
difficult times.

We are happy that
we could be of help.

[hooves clopping]

Aruzia:
This recent drought
has hit us hard.

Every day more and more
farmers arrive at the castle
asking for help.

Arin: And because
of the shortage of food,

Gutang raids are on the rise.

Teddy: Do you mean that
the Gutangs just come in

Teddy:
What's this, Grubby?

Lucky thing I brought some
roots from the airship.

I'm gonna ask the cooks to make
a yummy batch of root stew.

Root stew, you say?

That sounds like an...
interesting dish.

Yes, Your Majesty,
it's Grubby's favorite.

You might say it's the root
of our friendship. Ha ha.

How did you two
become friends, Teddy?

Well, it happened
a long time ago

in our homeland
of Rillonia.

I think we'd all enjoy
hearing that story.

My friends,
your attention, please.

Our heroic guest,
Teddy Ruxpin,

will now tell us the amazing
story of his first encounter

with the brave
and noble Grubby.

[cheering]

Brave and noble? Gosh!

Thank you, Your Majesty.

It all started in Rillonia,

where my family lived
in a little cottage.

We had a little
vegetable garden.

My mother was showing me
how to plant potatoes.

You just dig a hole
this deep,

put a potato in it,

then cover it over with dirt.

Oh, that's easy, Mom.
I can do that.

Well, I worked
most of the afternoon,

and I finally got
the first row planted.

[crickets chirping]

Mother, look.

During the night,
something had dug up

all the potatoes
I'd planted the day before.

It'll take me most of the day
to plant new potatoes.

Later, my mother helped me
fix up a special surprise

-for our potato thief.
-[bells tinkling]

Teddy, can I tell
my side of the story now?

Why, sure, Grubby.

Well, you see, your Majesty,
I was seeing if I could find

any more of those wonderful
little roots I had dug up
the night before.

Octopedes are sometimes
noct-- uh, noct--

-Nocturnal.
-Yeah, that's it!

That's means that sometimes
we sleep during the day
and are awake at night.

Anyway,
the very next night...

[humming]

Let's see. I think it was
right around here

where I found
those roots last night.

Oh, boy! I think I found one.

Yup! [laughs]

A nice little round root.

And I'll bet there's
another one right over there.

Gee, nice of these roots
to grow in a straight line
like this.

Boy, am I glad I brought
along a big bag tonight.

These are the fastest
growing roots I ever saw.

I can hardly carry them all.

Whoa!

-[bells tinkling]
-Hey, what's going on? Hey!

Mother, I think we caught
the potato thief!

[Grubby grunting]

Mother, look!

Teddy, be careful.

We don't know
what that thing is.

Maybe it's a big potato bug.

Potato bug? I'm no potato bug.

-Oh!
-Yikes!

-Then what are you?
-I'm just me.

I'm an Octopede.

Teddy, I think we should
get him out of that net.

All right.

What's your name?

Oh, I'm Grubby.

I didn't know
I was taking something
that belonged to someone.

If you really want
these things buried,

I'll help you put them
back in the ground.

It's starting
to get light.

Oh, Grubby, would you like
to have breakfast with us?

Who, me? Uh, breakfast?

Um, uh, sure.
What are you having?

Well, how about
potato pancakes?

[all laughing]

Grubby: Dig a hole,
drop one in, cover it up.

Dig a hole, drop one in,
cover it up.

Hey, this is almost as much
fun as digging them up.

I really appreciate
your helping me, Grubby.

Oh, I'm glad to help, Teddy.

After all, I dug them up!

[both laugh]

Hey, are you sure these
potatoes are gonna grow?

Oh, sure, before long,
there will be potatoes
all over the place.

Oh, good! And are you gonna bury
other kinds of food, too?

[laughs] Yes.

We'll plant lots of different
kinds of vegetables.

Corn and cabbage and tomatoes.

And most of them will
start out as little seeds.

Wow! Will I be able to help?

Of course, Grubby.
