(Gasping)

What are they doing in there?

So, go have a peek and find out.

Oh, I couldn't!

I'd be too scared.

Well... Uh...

Oh, all right.

(Gasping)

Yahh!

Now I'm really curious.

ALLThey're gone!

(Gasping)

Ta-da!

Ooh!

So, that's what it's all about!

A magic act!

Featuring Eddy the Great and Marvin the Magnificent.

(Giggling)

Ohhh.

STRIPESWow!

Oh!

(Sniffing)

Has Jack given you the go-ahead?

We're doing the act for him tomorrow.

If he likes it, we're in!



Okay, Eddy. Dazzle me.

For my first trick,

I'll need the assistance of a dancing horse!

(Snapping fingers)

(Humming, tap dancing)

Say, Marvin, what's behind your ear?

Um, the rest of me?

Why no!

It's the very thing I need for my trick!

What luck!

(Marvin humming)

(Clinking)

And presto whammo, the coin is gone!

Hmm.

Not bad. Keep going.

Say, Eddy, after the act,

want to pop over to the diner?

No need, Marvin.

We can "pop" right here!

(Popping)

BOTHTa-da!

Hmm.

So, Jack?

When do we start?

Nice stuff, guys.

But the act's a bit, um, small.

Small?

You mean we need some razzle-dazzle.

JACKExactly.

Something spectacular,

big enough for everyone to see.

Keep working at it, guys.

I'd better go cheer him up.

It's all about Harry Houdini.

Ever hear of him?

Sure!

He was a magician.

Maybe the greatest ever.

He started with card tricks.

Really?

I didn't know that.

Sure.

But then, he started creating big magic tricks.

Jack's right, Eddy.

In showbiz, you go big, or you go home.

You're right, Marvin.

And I think I have an idea that'll be spectacular!

Hmm.

Nice job, Eddy.

(Marvin clearing throat)

Uh, so, we were wondering

if you'd like to be in our new magic act.

A magic act?

What would I do, exactly?

Well, you'd disappear.

Huh?

And then, come back.

It's not dangerous, is it?


Not at all.

Hmm.

Me, starring in a magic act.

Well, Eddy's the star.

And I'm his assistant.

You'd be...

heh, the tiger.

The thing is, when a tiger's involved,

he's just naturally the star.

Okay, you've got it, Stripes.

Top billing. The star.

So, what do ya say, Stripes?

Deal.

"The Amazingly Magical Stripes!"

I like it!

(Elizabeth humming)

Hm.

Now you see me!

Ahhh!

And now you don't!

(Panting)

Now you see me!

Ahhh!

Oh. Sorry, Elizabeth.

You shouldn't scare me like that!

I'm practicing for the magic show.

Eddy and Marvin are going to make me disappear!

I wonder where tigers go when they disappear.

Hmm.

I've no idea where tigers go when they disappear.

But I'd be more worried about how they get back.

I never thought of that!

(Slurping)

(Burping)

(Penguins chattering)

(Saw cutting, hammering under curtain)

Eddy? Marvin?

Hi, Stripes.

You're just in time.

Behold the Mysterious Cabinet 'of Confusion.

Ready to give it a try?

How does it work?

EDDYSorry, Stripes.

Can't tell you.

It's against the rules to reveal our secrets to non-magicians.

You're not a magician.

Don't worry, Stripes!

It's perfectly safe, I promise.

So, where do I go when I disappear?

And how do I get back?

It's magic, Stripes!

You can trust us.

Disappearing is no big deal.

Then, you do it.

I quit!

Dandy.

Now, what?

(Penguins applauding, chattering)

Hmm, is a disappearing penguin band

as spectacular as a vanishing tiger?

Maybe. Maybe not.

But they'll do anything for fish.

(Squawking)

Whee!

Ha-ha!

EDDYOkay, guys, come on now.

Break time's over.

Please!

(Penguins chattering)

(Whistling)

Eww!

There's plenty left.

Everyone gets a fish when they disappear,

and a fish when they come back.

Fair enough?

(Chattering)

Mm-hmm!

(Penguins chattering excitedly)

Alakazam, alakazoo!

And presto!

(Gasping)

(Burping)

You're supposed to be gone.

Did Houdini ever have penguin trouble?

DIAMONDSDid you hear, Stripes?

The Penguins Five joined Eddy's magic act.

They're going on tonight.

They're not mad at me for quitting the act, are they?

No, just a bit disappointed that you don't trust them.

Oh. Yeah.

Well, as long as they're not mad.

(Stripes humming)

(Penguins chattering)

Keep it down, guys.

Big night tonight.

Full house.

Knock 'em for a loop, you two.

Elizabeth the Juggling Genius!

(Cheering)

And now, prepare to be amazed and mind-boggled


by those mysterious mavens of marvellous magic,

Eddy and Marvin!

(Cheering)

(Cheering in distance)

It's Eddy's big night.

What kind of friend would I be if I didn't cheer him on?

(Kissing)

And now, The Great Eddy will make not one, not two,

but five penguins vanish before your eyes!

(Crowd murmuring)

(Tap dancing)

(Squawking)

(Bouncing)

(Tap dancing)

(Gasping)

(Squawking angrily)

You'll get more later, I promise.

But for now, please, let's just do the act.

(Chattering, grumbling)

Alakazam!

Alakazoo!

And presto!

AUDIENCEOooh!

And now, I shall make them reappear!

Alakazam, alakazoo.

Presto!

(Gasping)

(Murmuring)

Ooh, Diamonds, I can't watch.

I knew it, and it's all my fault.

I should have trusted Eddy.

I mean, he trusts me.

Not many people would brush a tiger's teeth.

I missed my chance to let them see,

how very much they mean to me.

What have I done?

A friendly hand to hold

♪ Is more precious than all the gold ♪

Whoa!

Aaaah!

♪ It's not too late to hear me roar ♪

♪ Here I come, I'll make 'em shout for more ♪

♪ They'll see a tiger disappear ♪

♪ Well you can tell my friends that I'm here ♪

♪ Hey, hit that spotlight I'm right on track ♪

♪ Tell my friends that Stripes is back ♪

♪ That crowd is gonna roar

♪ Hey get ready, get ready, I'm here ♪

Where are they, Eddy?

They know I'm out of fish so they're not coming back!

(Roaring ferociously)

(Gasping)

(Snarling)

Sorry I let you down.

You still need a disappearing tiger?

We sure do, Stripes.

All right.

Let's give 'em a show!

(Roaring)

And now, ladies and gentlemen,

we see the mysterious Stripes is...

AUDIENCEOoh!

Gone!

(Tap dancing)

And now, abra-ca-pocus!

Kalamazoo!

(Gasping)

And Presto!

(Cheering, applauding)

(Wind blowing)

(Bird screeching)

Missed one, Eddy.

What would I do without you, Marvin?

Many hooves make light work, I always say.

(Giggling)

(Snoring softly)

Finished with your newspaper, Stripes?

I haven't even started.

No time.

Um, you don't seem all that busy.

I'm sleeping all day

because I'm going to be up all night.

Why are you staying up all night?

The Perseids shower starts at midnight,

and I'm gonna be there.

Pretty late in the day for a shower, wouldn't you say?

(Yawning)

Rowr!

The Perseids is a meteor shower.

You know, sh**ting stars?

Hundreds of them, every hour.

Wow!

Can we watch with you, Stripes?

Sure!

I've got a spot all picked out.

Cranberry Hill, highest in the area.

We'll head out after the show.

We could make a picnic of it!

Oats and sandwiches and roast chickens for you, Stripes.

(Slurping)


A picnic!

Can we come?

DIAMONDSOh, let's go to the river!

We can swim and lie in the sun and--

Oh!

We're going tonight to watch falling stars.

Well that's no good.

We were going to watch Best of the Big Top Awards

on TV tonight.

I guess.

I'd rather watch real stars than stare at the sky.

Sad, really.

(Audience cheering)

JACKLadies, gentlemen and kids of all ages,

Marvin the Tap Dancing Horse!

We know you enjoyed the show,

Boy, was I sharp tonight!

That was a great crowd out there, Stripes.

Are we about ready to go?

It's a long hike to Cranberry Hill, you know.

All set.

Grandma said I could stay out late

and she helped pack the food.

(Sniffing)

Mm-mmm.

Grandma's chicken.

Who do you think will win the award for best high-wire act?

I hate to see anyone lose.

It gets me all upset!



(Owl hooting)

MARVINWhy so far out in the countryside?

STRIPESTo get away from the lights.

You can see the sky best when it's dark as dark can be.

Ow! Ouch!

EDDYWatch out for the thorns.

Ooh! Ouch!

Ow!

It's clear over this way!

We'll take a shortcut through that field.

Are you sure, Stripes?

After all, it is the farmer's property.

As long as you close gates behind you, farmers don't mind.

(Tap dancing)

(Fly buzzing)

You know, sometimes a meteor

makes it all the way to the ground.

Then, it's called a meteorite.

Imagine finding a rock from outer space.

Wouldn't that be something to see?

(Animal growling)

(Gasping)

(Groaning)

(Snorting)

Run!

Whoa!

(Gasping)

Waaa!

Eddy!

Aaaah!

(Sniffing)

Hmmm.

(Chomping, eating)

Mmm!

TV ANNOUNCERAnd the Big Top award

for best performance by a camel or dromedary,

envelope please.

What will it be, ladies and gentlemen?

One hump or two?

And the winner is...

(Gasping)

Two!

Demetrius the Dromedary!

Yes! Demetrius won!

I knew it! I just knew it!

Oh, I was hoping for Carmelita the Camel.

Maybe next time.

It won't be much of a midnight picnic without the picnic.

Let's keep moving.

We're still a long way from Cranberry Hill.

(Mosquitoes buzzing)

Argh!

I'm getting eaten by mosquitoes!

Walk behind me, Eddy.

I'll swish them away with my tail.

(Spitting)

Uh, uh.

Hang on a second.

This mosquito bite is driving me batty.

Ahh, that's the spot.

Um, Marvin?

Just a sec, Eddy.

Aaahh.

Marvin!

Almost done.

Marvin!

(Bees buzzing)

MARVIN AND STRIPESOh my.

Run!


Uh-oh!

Ahhhh!

(Eddy shouting)

Aaaah!

Whoa!

(Splashing)

Whoa-oh-oh!

(Splashing)

(Spitting)

Noooooo!

Huh?

(Gasping)

Ahhh!

(Splashing)

(Taking deep breath)

Oh!

(Buzzing)

(Panting, gasping)

I think I've had enough adventure for one night.

(Frog ribbiting)

Yuck!

The plan was, we watch the meteor shower

from the top of Cranberry Hill.

We're sticking to it.

(Sighing)

Those award shows are an emotional roller coaster,

aren't they, Diamonds?

Diamonds?

(Diamonds sighing)

What's so interesting up there?

I was wondering about those falling stars

Stripes was so excited about.

They can't really be falling stars, can they?

I mean, if they were,

there wouldn't be any left before long.

And that'd be awful!

(Crying)

Tell you what.

Let's ask Edna about falling stars.

(Sniffling)

All right.

Any luck?

Nothing yet.

Hurry up, Eddy.

It's getting late.

Found it!

Maybe we should think about turning back, Stripes.

We're wet and dirty and hungry.

(Gasping)

Never!

Tigers don't turn back.

Go home if you like.

(Sighing)

We've come this far.

(Shoe sloshing)

Here's the earth, riding around the sun.

And this is a comet, looping in from way out here.

Comets are made of ice and dirt.

Like a dirty snowball?!

EDNAExactly.

When it gets close to the sun,

some of it melts and leaves this trail of dust.

DIAMONDSOh!

So, when the earth goes through the trail,

we see flashes of light in the night sky.

ELIZABETHOoh!

So, falling stars are comet dust.

That's so, so beautiful.

And because the falling stars all seem to come from

the constellation of Perseus,

it's called the Perseids Shower.

Now, we know why Stripes was so excited

about going sky-watching.

We should be watching, too!

Let's go!

You won't see much.

And neither will Eddy, Marvin and Stripes.

It's gonna rain.

It's amazing how you can see the future like that, Edna.

Sure is.

Of course, it helps if you listen to the radio.

ANNOUNCERBetter stay inside tonight, folks

because its rain, rain and more rain.

Oh, dear.

Poor Stripes.

He had his heart set on watching the meteor shower.

And now, he won't see anything!

If only there was something we could do about it.

Maybe there is.

Ever heard of a planetarium?

Hmm? Uh...

(Owl hooting)

(Groaning, panting)

We made it! We're at the top!

Making it to the top on Broadway was easier.

(Groaning)

Just you wait.

When you see all those sh**ting stars whizzing down,

you'll be glad you came!

(Marvin sighing)


Wow!

It's pretty nice out here.

Oh, look at that!

STRIPESThat's amazing!

(Thunder rumbling)

Oh no.

Please no.

Oh, a whole year till the next meteor shower.

It'll take me that long to recover.

Hey, look!

Now what do you suppose is going on inside the tent at this hour?

(All gasping)

We knew it was going to rain,

and we didn't want you to be disappointed, Stripes.

Edna told us how planetariums work,

projecting stars on the ceiling!

And she helped make the star overlays for the spotlights!

And Jack made the meteor effect.

Stripes?

(Whimpering)

Look at me.

I'm turning into Stripes the Emotional Tiger.

Thank you, Elizabeth.

Thank you, Diamonds.

I'll never forget this.

Well, what are we waiting for?

Let's watch a meteor shower!
