Tonight on "supernanny," jo visits blythe,

A woman who has recently... Whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

Faced divorce, foreclosure...

I want my house back. And the death of nana,

Her family's closest friend.

Nana got cancer,

And that's so sad. [Sniffles]

When it rains, it pours. It can't get any worse than what it is.

[Screaming] no! I want my ba-ba daly, no.

And forced into a smaller home...

Then they're not going in there.

I'm not letting them in there. Mom is sleeping on the couch.

Her six children are confused...

Aah! Angry...

[Blythe] you're just picky. And acting out.

[Screams] and her life is spiraling out of control.

[Girl] no!

Or you can sit here. No!

Will she put the past behind her?

[Voice cracking] I want my life back.

Can jo give her strength to go on?

Let's just take it one step at a time literally.

Or will this mom snap...

[Crying] no, jo, i-- no, sit back down. I'm talking to you.

And walk out on a chance for a better future?

But you know what? I'm about to help you.

I'm in the sunshine state, tallahassee, florida.

Let's take a look at the family

That needs my help this week.

Hi. I'm blythe newsome, and I'm a single mom with six kids.

Loughlin is .

Moira, stop messing with that before you break it.

Aidan is .

Aidan, go in your room. [Boy] mama.

[Hisses] daly is .

Just walk down the stairs. [Giggling]

Daly! [Laughs]

Moira is .

No! I'm swinging!

Kindergarten is dumb. Elspeth is .

Aah! And finn is .

[Yells indistinctly] unh-unh.

[Kids yelling] [blythe] don't just throw it around.

[Screams] [grunting, yelling]

[Screams] in the last months, my husband and i--

We'd been married almost years--

We got divorced.

Because of the divorce, we sold the house.

The neighborhood that we lived in, it was so great.

We lived four houses away from my mom and dad.

The kids could walk down to their grandparents'.

It was big. It was spacious.

They had their rooms. They had a playroom.

Okay. [Crying] I want my house back.

My word. I'll tell you, this lady needs to concentrate

On the present, not live in the past.

Nana was part of our life forever.

[Blythe] she was my nanny growing up

And the nanny for my children.

She was with my family for years.

About ten months ago, nana found a lump

In her breast.

It was breast cancer.

Nana passed away.

You know, this is so sad.

This woman has so much to deal with,

And it's destroying her and her kids.

Mom! [Blythe] the home we're in now is very small.

The children are in rooms two by two's.

This is actually my room, my bed.

I sleep on the couch.

I get maybe four hours of broken sleep a night.

That really takes its toll.

Over a year on a couch? She seriously must need sleep.

[Burps, laughs] [blythe] there is no discipline in the house.

I need you to sit down for a minute and calm down. No. No. No!

There's no order.

[Yells]

[Screams] ow.

It's just pure chaos.

I want to push the button. [Dish clattering]

[Speaking indistinctly]

Supernanny, I need you

To help us be a family again.

You know, this mom needs my help desperately,

But more than anything, these six kids need my help, too.

I'm on my way.

[Doorbell rings]

I'll get it! [Blythe] no, you can't have a snack.

Hello. Hi.

Hi. Hi!

Pleased to meet you. Jo frost. Hi. I'm blythe.

How are you? It's nice to meet you. Please come in and help.

The minute jo walked in the house, I swear to god,

I was thinking, please, god, just go upstairs

And deal with the kids so I can go to the bathroom.

This is loughlin. Hi, loughlin. Pleased to meet you.

Good to meet you, too. I'm jo. Hi.

This is aidan. Hi, aidan, pleased to meet you. Okay.

[Aidan] hi. And that's daly.

Hi, daly. Come down. When mom told me supernanny was coming,

I was not shocked.

My mom really needs that help.

I don't want to!

Is this finn? This is finn.

I won't! Oh, hi, finn. I'm jo jo.

Can you say hi? How you doing? Yeah, great.

[Grunting] let me go!

[Blythe] please. Okay, elspeth, elspeth, just leave her alone.

Well, I guess I'll meet more later on today.

Yes. At some point, she'll come down.

Yeah, okay. It's gonna be extremely challenging for me.

There's no two ways about that.

I mean, there's a lot on this lady's plate, a lot.

[Crying]

[Daly] get off me. Mom! I was only there about minutes,

And I started to see exactly how chaotic this house was. No!

Get down. [Speaks indistinctly]

Oh, crap. Now stop-- [grunts]

Daly, run!

Please. [Screaming]

[Jo] daly started to run for cover,

And he hid himself in the closet.

Daly! Daly. [Daly] safe!

Okay, doorknobs are coming off.

[Yells indistinctly] [grunts]

And it drove elspeth nuts.

[Daly in singsong voice] you can't get me. [Blythe] no, elspeth. No!

[Pounding on door] is finn in there?

Yes. Goody.

Mom had to unscrew the doorknob

Just to get daly out.

Stop, daly, you're gonna hurt somebody.

Daly, we're not gonna lock doors in this house. Stop.

Stop! Let me go.

Having seen that there was no discipline in the house,

I wanted to talk to mom to find out just how long

She'd been letting it slip for.

The excuse card, which I'm-- I'm gonna play--

The divorce, the move,

Nana dying--

Because when they're--you know, when the divorce happened...

[Voice cracking] nana kept it together. Well, okay.

She kept me together. Well, okay.

Of course. Of course. It's just been overwhelming.

Of course. And I want her back.

Mm.

As a nanny, you become an integral part of a family,

So I could relate how devastated

This whole family were when they lost dear nana.

And she was the giant staple. Yes, she was.

It's a cool picture of her. Look at her smiling there.

[Moira] we still think about nana a lot.

Nana was a part of our family.

Every day coming home from school,

Nana would sit on the front porch and wait for everybody.

Yeah, that was nice, huh?

Yes, you never know... You're never too old.

I was glad to be reminded of nana 'cause I miss her.

And in--in our old house... [Babbling]

[Jo] in fact, daly showed me a very special object

He'd been given by nana.

My mom got it from nana and nana told her to give it to me.

May I borrow this? Yes, ma'am.

Thank you... [Elspeth] I'm looking for my chocolate.

'Cause I have an idea for this.okay.

And I knew that nana's rock would come in handy later on.

Mom, give me a ba-ba.

We're not gonna have a ba-ba right now.

[Screaming] what's a ba-ba? What is a ba-ba?

I want a ba-ba. His bottle.

A bottle? Okay. I want a bottle!

He-- how many of those does he have?

How--how many of those does he have a day?

A day? [Shouting] I want a ba-ba!

Six to eight. No!

All right. It--it has to be warm or he'll throw it at you.

Right, okay.

So he has as many bottles now... [Elspeth] mom!

At the age of /,

Six to eight bottles,

As a week, week old. Guess what?

Yes, as a--as a newborn baby would have.yeah.

I personally recommend that parents let go of the bottle

With their children when they reach about to months.

Okay, come on. [Crying] I want a ba-ba.

[Jo] finn's perfectly capable of drinking out of a cup.

He doesn't need a bottle, but the bad habit continues

Because his mother won't break it for him.

[Crying] I want a ba-ba. Okay, look.

Mom, why won't you get me a ba-ba?

So at the moment, what mom's doing

Is teaching finn to ask for a bottle

When he shouts and yells, which is, you know, wrong.

Ba-ba! All right?

Coming up on "supernanny"...

I'll reach it. What's going on down here? [Blythe] jo, no!

Jo discovers blythe's dirty little secret.

Okay, that's disgusting.

And later... [Crying] no, jo, i--

No, sit back down. I'm talking to you. For the first time ever,

Mom walks out on the parent meeting...

At least respect me, please.

Can jo win back her trust?

Give me five minutes, will you?

When "supernanny" returns.

Daly, here.

No, mommy said, "get out."

Later on in the day,

I saw there isn't much order

With regards to food.

Ow!

What's going on down here? [Blythe] jo, no!

[Elspeth] we're doing a cheer!

It looks a lot like chocolate. What's that?

I've also got a sweet shop or a candy shop.

What's this? Sweets, raisins.

What's with that pile in there?

Oh, look at this one. [Daly speaking indistinctly]

[Laughing] okay, that's disgusting.

You guys need to come and clean this up.

My word.

Have you seen underneath those sofas?

They've got all sorts growing underneath there.

Mom doesn't reinforce anything,

Let alone have responsibilities for these kids

So they can tidy up after themselves

And keep a home they're proud of.

Who knows what we're gonna find?

So who does all the washing and everything?

My mom. Your mom, okay.

Do you guys deal with--do you guys have chores and things? [Girl screaming]

Do you all do things? Nobody.

No, no? Not something you like doing,

Or does mom give 'em to you or... Um...

You just don't want to do 'em?

Well, when we want money, we ask mom to do chores, but...

There's not much respect right now for her new home.

And she's finding it very hard to come to terms

With leaving the old house and now being in the new one.

What happened to the home?

We--we had to sell it.

Why?

Yeah, why?

[Elspeth] yeah, why? No.

It--it was an awesome house...

It was the awesome-est.

But it was--it was gonna be really hard

For mommy to--to pay for it,

And it was, um, just financially. Wow.

So what, re--it--did it get repossessed then?

Is that--you just... Foreclosure.

Foreclosure. And then it--yeah.

[Daly] get off me. Yeah, okay.

Well, how many--how many people in america...

Exactly. I mean, I think-- are having hard times?

Will you excuse me for a moment?

'Cause I'd like to talk to mommy just on my own.

We'll just have some adult talk. Thank you.

How long ago did you divorce?

It's been like months.

Who--whose decision was it to file for divorce?

It was both of ours. Oh.

[Voice cracking] I want my life back.

What do you want back?

I want my house back. I want nana back.

You--you've had-- you've had

Major, major events

Happen in your life

That would rank in the top --

Death,

Divorce, moving homes.

Look, three major ones there,

And all within months.

So let--let's just take it-- let's just take it

One step at a time literally,

Just baby steps at a time.

After chatting with blythe,

It was soon time for dinner,

And, oh, yes, the chaos returned.[Crying]

[Grunting] hey, hey. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.

Stop. You sit right here, elspeth.

Yeah. [Screams] no! No!

You're just picky. Mom!

That is enough. Give her a time-out.

I'm not sitting right there!

Then you can sit there, or you can sit there. No!

Well, I'm--she's there. No, no, I got there first!

Moira.move!

Thank you. No, I don't want that plate!

Well, mom gave in to elspeth's temper tantrum,

And moira had to move.

Mom, give me some. [Roars] I love those meatballs.

I know. [Loughlin] can we get, like, durable chairs for moira?

Who wants sauce? Can I get some more pasta?

You sure can. This pasta is sticky!

And, mom, it's cold!

[Jo] now I've seen people speak to waitresses better

Than what these kids were speaking to their mom.

I'm getting drinks right now.

Get me this, bring me that.

I mean, where are the kids' manners?

All right, there's one more s-- [screaming]

[Jo] you don't eat?

No, um, usually just 'cause it's just--no.

[Elspeth crying] no, that's my bowl!

[Jo] and after seeing all of this, i--you know,

I-i'm ready to leave for the evening,

And I'm looking forward to coming back tomorrow actually.

You've got a lot to do obviously,

So I'm gonna leave you be so that you can do that. Okay.

Do you want to see me tomorrow? I do.

Good, because we're gonna have

A very big family meeting tomorrow.

Give me a hug. Thank you, jo.

I'll give you a hug.

Leave me alone.

I have a bottle and a pillow.

Right now, I'm feeling exhausted, overwhelmed,

Tired, and I knew that jo was going to tell me some things...

Let's get ready for bed.

That were gonna be really hard to hear

About moving on.

Let's talk about this.

You're a single parent

Raising your six children.

So who's gonna do it?

Because nana's not here anymore.

[Whispers] I know. And nana did it.

When you got the divorce, nana slipped into that role.

[Normal voice] yes, yes.

What about yourself?

There's so much that I'm doing all the time,

That I can't-- I can't do it all.

I can't follow through.

Why is finn still having bottles

Like a -week-old baby?

Because it's easier than hearing him scream,

And it's just one battle that I don't have to face.

But from where-- from where I stand,

It's not like you're prepared to fight any battle.

Let's talk about house here.

Okay. House space, okay.

You lived in this big house that you loved,

And over the years,

You built up memories in that home.

And now you're in this home that's not ideal for you

Because you've been used to things a certain way,

But you're sleeping on the couch,

Not getting a good night's sleep,

Which is crazy to me

Because you've lost all pride and self-respect.

Oh, yes. I mean, after--

Oh, yes. I mean, seriously, why wouldn't you clean your home?

We vacuum a couple times a day. There's no way, blythe.

Well, no, wait a second.

The--the-- we couldn't find-- no.

We couldn't find the vacuum cleaner for three days. Blythe, please.

That--that's not fair! No, yes.

The--what is the point of me being here right now?

You tell me. What's the point of me being here right now, blythe?

I don't know. Tell me why you asked for my help,

Because right now, I need a woman opposite me.

I need a woman... [Sniffles]

Okay, and a mother... I had that, jo. I need nana.

Let me tell you something. [Crying] no, jo, i--

No, sit back down. I'm talking to you. Time to leave.

Blythe, sit down, please.

It is :. I--my children need to be picked up.

[Jo] she just got up and walked out of her own home.

It made me realize

Just how difficult it is for her

Even to listen and hear what I've got to say.

Jo, really, I'm done. Blythe.

Coming up on "supernanny"...

It can't get any worse than what it is.

Caught in the middle of tropical storm fay,

Jo tries to get mom back on track...

You trusted one woman in your life.

I'm asking you to give me a chance here.

When "supernanny" returns.

I need nana. Let me tell you something.

[Crying] no, jo, i-- no, sit back down. I'm talking to you.

[Jo] the truth, it all come tumbling down for blythe.

At least respect me, please. This was the first time

That I've had a parent walk out on a family meeting.

You're being very disrespectful. And you're coming in,

And you're criticizing everything that I'm doing... But I'm here--

Correct, but you know what? I'm about to help you.okay.

Listen, listen to me. Give me five minutes, will you?

It's not your fault that your husband lost his job.

[Sniffles]

It's not your fault that nana got cancer.

Nana got cancer.

Nana got cancer,

And that's so sad.

[Sobbing]

We need to get in.

Don't worry, the teachers would have been in rain for a minute.

But listen to me. I don't care about the rain. Let it rain!

That's it! The heavens are opening up, obviously!

But listen to me seriously.

I'm about picking up from the bottom

And working all the way up to the top, okay?okay.

I'm not gonna sit here and pussyfoot around.

It can't get any worse than what it is.

Can it? It can't get any worse. We're at the bottom!

No, it can't.

So seriously, we're at the bottom.

You only trusted one woman in your life, okay?

You trusted one woman in your life.

I'm asking you to give me a chance here

And trust me.

[Sniffles]

Let's continue where we started off, okay?

Okay.all right, let's talk about the house.

No, I don't want to talk about the house. I don't want to--

No, no, no, we have to-- we have to talk about--

We have to talk about things, blythe. No, i-i really--

Blythe, blythe, trust me, okay? No, I just--

What I want to say to you about it, okay,

Is that we can make things better.i agree.

All right? I--

It's not the best, all right?i agree.

So let's change it, okay?i-i...

We can't change what's happened,

But we can certainly change

What's going on right now in the present.

Are you worth it?i--yes.

Are your kids worth it? Yes. Oh, gosh, yes.

Exactly, and that's what's important.

[Jo] once the storm had passed

And blythe and I had dried off a little bit...

Let's get into the car. Okay.

I wanted to start teaching straightaway,

So I took her on a little trip.

You're gonna drive to the old house,

Okay?

When jo told me where we were going,

I thought, I want to turn around.

I don't want to walk back

On the grass

That I sat there and played with the kids so many times.

I don't want to go back there unless it's my home.

I want to go back there

And miraculously have it be what it was before.

Once outside the house,

There was a favorite spot that mom had.

And she took me to it,

And there was a message on the wall.

Oh, it's kind of faded 'cause of the rain. The rain's washed it off.

Oh, look, the "o"...

Can he-- the "v," the "e."

They snuck out the back...yeah.

And snuck out this side gate to come and do it,

And then they came in and their hands were muddy,

And I said, "what have you done?"

And they're like, "nothing."

[Laughs] that's fabulous!

My head gets

That it's just four walls and a roof,

But my heart is in a totally different place.

You say good-bye to a house now,

But you don't say good-bye to your memories.

You remember them. They stay in your heart.

You take those with you and you create new ones

In your new home.

She needed to make a decision in her heart

As well as her mind, that she was going to create

New memories in her new home.

So I asked mom to go, "bye, house!"

Just to say it, just to let herself say it

So that she could hear her own voice.

"Bye, house, because I'm about to create

A new home now with my family."

What are you letting go of? Just the house.

Exactly! What are you keeping?

I'm keeping the memories. Yeah, of course you're keeping the memories!

We don't let go of the memories!

So good-bye to my house, to this house.

Good-bye to this house!

Good-bye, house.

I have a new home now.

I said good-bye to the house,

Not the memories, because those are mine.

[Jo] mom's gonna have to find the strength from somewhere

To push through everything that's going on right now.

And so I decided

To get daly and mom together.

You really worry about mom, don't you?

Yeah. Yeah, of course.

And you love mom very much, and you worry about her,

And then when she gets upset, you get upset. Yeah.

Yeah, exactly. So you're all part of one big family.

Mom can't just do this on her own, okay?

It takes you as a grown-up boy as well

To understand what's going on.

Now when you and I spoke the other day,

We spoke about nana,

And we spoke about the fun times,

And it makes you feel sad all the time, right? Yeah.

Yeah. So a lot of children ask,

Why--why did it have to happen?

He and nana were so close.

There was this bond between the two of them.

Why did it have to happen to nana?

I don't know. I don't know.

Unh-unh. I don't-- I wish I knew.

Yeah, me, too.

My mommy had breast cancer the same as nana,

And--and it was very aggressive as well,

And--and she didn't survive.

It's sad because, you know, we feel loss.

During my observation day,

I became aware

That nana had left a rock

For daly

That had the word "strength," and when I saw that,

I knew I'd be able to use this rock in a very powerful way.

You know, nana was a very wise woman

Because nana left you this rock, and it says "strength."

This is certainly what she's asking

The whole family to have--strength.

Now mommy's gonna need a lot of strength

To put things back on track, right? Yeah.

Yeah. I think this might be a good idea

If you lend this to mom for a while

So she can carry it around in her pocket

Here you go, mom. Thank you.

He's a very brave guy and an amazing guy

To give it to me, and you know what?

If he can give it to me, he must believe in me.

[Jo] when times get tough,

She can pull out that rock and--and recognize

What it symbolizes-- mom being that rock.

So where's the rock? Right here.

[Crying] I want my ba-ba! Hey.

I want my ba-ba.

Finn started crying,

Saying that he wanted a bottle.

There was gonna be no great time to get rid of the bottles.

[Crying] give me a ba-ba.

So don't be a glutton for punishment.

Give me a ba-ba! Get rid of 'em and leave 'em.

Finny, we're gonna throw our ba-bas away

And drink out of a big boy cup, okay? No. No. No!

[Daly] mom! No!

Finn went into this whole huge fit,

And then that led to a total meltdown.

I thought, I'm ruining his life.

This is, like, gonna be one of those life-changing moments

That this child is gonna be in therapy in...

[Screaming] for the rest of his life because I took his bottles away.

[Crying] no, I want my ba-ba!

I want my ba-ba!

I was literally to the point where I thought, just forget it.

Just--just forget it. I can't do this.

This is too hard. No, I want my ba-ba!

I want my ba-ba.

Coming up on "supernanny"...

[Screaming]

Finn keeps up the fight

As the battle over bottles rages on... [Screaming]

When "supernanny" returns.

Finny, we're gonna throw our ba-bas away

And drink out of a big boy cup, okay? No. No!

[Jo] I made a decision that finn was gonna come off the bottles,

And it was as simple as that. [Screaming] ba-ba!

[Screaming] come on, let's go.

I'm like any mother.

Your child is hurting, it makes your heart break.

It's your weakness, and I just wanted to give in.

[Crying] mommy, can I get my ba-ba?

[Crying] [jo] that does penetrate when you have to listen to a child

Cry and scream the way finn does. I want my ba-ba!

But eventually he stopped.

[Laughing]

[Blythe] I was very surprised with how quickly

It all came to an end.

All of a sudden, he's laughing

Because we're playing hide-and-seek under the covers. No!

I found one! [Aidan] finn!

He stopped! He stopped. He stopped.

All right, and you know what? That's worth a dance.

And you know what?

And tonight, he may cry, and then you'll just

Have to listen to it and push through it, and then he'll stop.

Okay. Look at him now.

That's what you need to remember.

And then a magic moment.

He asked for aglass of juice. You hold the juice.

[Blythe] "can I have a glass of juice?"

All right, let's go grab it.

I felt like I had won the lottery.

[Gasps] you did it!

You did it! You are such a big boy. [Elspeth] mommy!

[Jo] so now it's time to get mom some help around the house.

Mom, on a piece of paper,

I would like you to write down... [Children shouting]

All the chores that would be helpful if the kids did 'em.

Okay.okay?

The fact that some of these kids are , and

And have never, ever done any chores

Blows me away, to be honest with you.

[Blythe] guys, come downstairs.

Everybody, we're having a meeting.

[Jo] so this was a time for mom to assert herself

And get busy with these kids,

But considering they've never picked up anything themselves,

It was gonna be a little bit of trouble.

'Cause I can't do it all anymore, guys.

Every person has to make their bed

Before they go to school in the morning. Oh, man.

[Moira] what? Loughlin and aiden...

I'm hungry! You are responsible for cleaning your bathroom.

That is where-- then they're not going in there.

I'm not letting them in there. They can't take showers. Deal, deal.

You three have the other bathroom--or you four.

Guys, these are the rules. This isn't like a discussion.

What we are gonna do... [Finn] mom!

Is we're gonna tag-team the kids, all right?

[Jo] to help mom delegate the chores,

She wrote down on a piece of card

The job that the team needed to do.

You two are gonna be a team... [Moira] what?

And you're gonna go clean the bathroom upstairs.

[Jo] the kids would have matching ribbons,

And when they had finished,

They would hand in those colored ribbons afterwards.

You three have the other bathroom. But, mom!

Unh-unh-unh-unh, unh-unh-unh! No buts.

Moira! Ugh.

I'm gonna spray. I don't like cleaning up.

Even if, you know, the kids don't like it,

I know it's, like, really good for my mom.

Like, it's for the best.

♪♪♪♪♪

For the first time to really do chores, they did really well.

Once they got going, I got it...

They just did it.

Great job! I'm all done.

It is nice to see the kids all pulling together with mom.

However, she is still sleeping on the sofa,

And I think that's wrong.

As a mother, you have done

What every other mother would have done, okay?

You prioritized the children's sleep,

But you do want a bed to be able to sleep in, obviously.

Because there's no spare bedrooms,

It makes sense to put her in loughlin and aiden's bedroom,

And so I snuck off to the shops,

Got what I needed for her to bring back.

So what we all did as a family

Was to put two girls' bunk beds together.

[Cheering]

I'm glad that she got a room,

Like, she was--she's able to room with me and my sister.

Setting up the bedroom today was really fun,

And it was everybody in there together.

The nice thing was, is that when they finished,

All the kids jumped on the bed to join her.

Ooh. Ooh.

Do you know how long it's been since I've been able

To say to my kids, "come lay down in bed with me.

Let's just hang out"?

It was a good thing for my mom to get a bed.

Oh, guess what? What?

You're not sitting on my bed anymore. No.

And then it was dinnertime,

And I knew I wanted to make some changes.

In the old house, they used to have a family tradition

Of talking about the best and the worst part of their day,

But since she's moved to the new home

She hasn't done that, yet the kids absolutely loved it!

I'm thankful that we're all here together.

I'm thankful for each one of you

And for the happiness you bring to my life.

[Jo] so it was time to bring back that old family tradition,

And they'll take turns by using

That special rock of nana's.

You know what, ellie? I'm gonna have you start.

And you get to hold the rock, and I want you to tell us... Yay!
