05x01 - Waiting Is The Hardest Part

Post by bunniefuu »

Are you ready?

I've known luis for 2 months.

Now, he's my fiancé.

[ Laughs ] ah!

I hope that azan can
be a father to mae.

Stay here. Come on.

Mae!

David: annie's parents
require a water buffalo

So I can marry her.

[ Bleep ]

Elizabeth: andrei and I come from
two completely different cultures.

Where he's from, he expects
a woman to be submissive.

Bring on the 90 days.

I'm ready.

[ Gasps ] oh, my god!

I missed you!

I landed the hottest
cheerleader on the squad.

Everything here in
america is big.

[ Laughs ]

Elizabeth: andrei
is very stubborn.

He has zero patience.

She'll do anything she needs to
do get a united states visa.

You were looking for
men in america.

Yes.

He's not going to take
me away from you.

I just wish that this
wasn't happening.

[ Door closes ]

I just feel like a wallet.

I'm leaving my country,
leaving my family,

And you don't seem to
want to give up anything.

Can you just quit?

I can't do this. She's crazy.

Stop!

Nicole: why does he
have to be this way?

I'm over here taking care of
mae by myself in a [bleep]

Foreign country!

[ Sobbing ] he
doesn't understand.

**

My name is molly.

I'm 41 years old, and I
live in woodstock, georgia.

[ Door chimes ]

Hi. Welcome to livi rae.

How are you? I'm
good, how are you?

I'm fantastic.

What can we do for
you today, babe?

I'm just looking
for some lingerie.

I am a custom bra fitter, and I
own a really unique boutique.

**

My business partner and i, we
had a tv show all centered

Around a bra shop fitting the
biggest boobs in the world.

[ Laughs ]

This is something that you could
totally do, kind of bondage-y.

I help, like, thousands of women
a month get their sexy on...

It hooks in the front so you
can get in it yourself.

...and I'm very proud of that.

You're welcome.

But my proudest accomplishment
would be that I'm a mom.

Mom. I'm home.

Hey, mom.

Hello.

I have two daughters.

My oldest daughter is 17,
and her name is olivia.

Hi!

And my youngest daughter is

How was school? Good.

I think that my kids are the
very best thing in my life.

Olivia: color.

That was your work today?

Molly: olivia and kensley
have different fathers.

Olivia's dad and i,
we were very young.

And then, when I was
with kensley's father,

There were some
things that we were

Never going to be
able to work out.

You want a sandwich?
No, I want an apple.

You want an apple?

I was really happy being single,

And I honestly didn't think
that marriage was for me,

But it is, and it
is with this man.

I booked a girls' trip to
the dominican republic,

And I was at a bar,

And all of the sudden,
the people parted,

And there was luis.

And he said to me, "I'm
going to marry you.

You're going to be my wife."

It was love at first sight.

Hello, hello. How are you?

I hope you are so good.

Luis is bronzed and beautiful.

Luis just turned 26, so he's
significantly younger than I am.

So my friends are like, "oh,
you're going to be a cougar."

But for me, I think
it's kind of like

When people saw pam
anderson on "baywatch,"

Like, running down the beach.

If you flipped that
to a man, oh, yeah.

[ Laughs ] he's hot!

When I left, I said,
"I'm coming back again."

And after about 2 months
of knowing this man,

He proposed to me.

And now, he's my fiancé.

[ Laughs ]

Aah!

[ Laughs ]

[ Ringing ]

Hi.

Hi!

Are you good?

Even though luis
and I have spent

Only about a month together,

I absolutely know that
this is the man for me.

So I pretty much googled
how to marry a man

From another country
in the united states.

I'm thinking, "oh, I want
to get this guy quick."

Are you ready?

I did the paperwork, and luis
is getting ready to arrive.

Yeah. I'm nervous, too.

You coming here,
first-time wife,

First-time kids.

Yeah. First-time everything.

The most important thing
is that he can get along

With my children.

Everybody else is
secondary in my life.

But olivia is still kind of
on the fence about luis,

And kensley doesn't
really understand.

Well, I love you.

I'm going to go because
I'm getting all whatever.

[ Giggles ]

So I'm worried that for someone
who's young with no kids,

Never married, this might
be, like, too much.

Oh, my gosh.

But we have 90 days to find out.

**

Go dog park?

My name's elizabeth.
I'm 27 years old,

And I live in tampa, florida.

Go.

I live in a one-bedroom
apartment with my dog, bear.

He's a dog to everybody else,
but he's my little boy.

Who's a good boy?
Who's a good boy?

[ Laughs ]

I have a large family.

I have six brothers
and three sisters.

It's tough being
in a big family.

Being the youngest, all
my siblings pick on me.

They constantly treated me like
I'm the baby of the family,

And it's so annoying.

Woo!

[ Laughing ] I am definitely
the rebel of the family.

I don't go by the rules.

I don't go by the book.

I just kind of do my own thing.

I think I've always been
attracted to different cultures.

To think that the person
that you're meant to be with

Is just next door to you
is so small-minded to me.

Here, dad.

Right now, I work as
a property manager

Alongside my dad
with his company.

And this is a floor plan that
we have to put together.

Having my dad as my
boss is so frustrating.

He pushes my buttons
all the time.

Did you review that
application yet?

you can reach out to her.

But...

Tell her what's required and...
Don't waste your time.

Tell her what's required, and
then ask her what she has.

Okay.

[ Phone notification beep ]

I'm currently saving
up some money

So I can bring over
my fiancé, andrei!

Andrei is 31 years old.

He's from chisinau, moldova,

Which is a small eastern
european country

That borders ukraine
and romania.

Andrei and I met
on a dating app.

I was actually planning
a trip to dublin

Where andrei currently lives.

I kind of just wanted to see
what was out there, you know?

And we came across each other and
immediately just hit it off.

And actually, at first,
I was a little hesitant

Because, obviously, the
long-distance thing.

But my heart is like, "just follow through.
Just do it."

At that point when I saw
him, I'm like, "yes."

[ Laughs ]

Aw, I thought you
said i'm gorgeous.

I've never met anybody
like him in my life,

Which is why I love him so much.

Some people can find
andrei very intimidating.

He's got muscles, you
know, he works out.

And he is 100% a classic
alpha male, 100 percent.

Andrei is 6'4".

He's got a very deep voice.

He knows who he is,
and he's confident.

He doesn't know that I
find him intimidating

And don't tell him, but he is.

He can be, you know?

Despite his rough exterior,

He definitely treats
me so much better

Than any american guy has, ever.

He's a gentleman, and
there's more pizzazz.

He's classy.

I mean, he likes
to ballroom dance.

What guy likes to
ballroom dance?

Andrei is my first real love.

I'm going to cry. [ Laughs ]

I love him.

So beautiful.

We were sitting by
the water one night,

And he was just like,
"will you marry me?"

And I was like, "but aren't you

Supposed to, like,
get down on your..."

And he was like, "oh, yeah."

And so he, like, got down.

He's like, "will you marry me?"

And I said yes.

[ Tearfully ] I have a lot of
emotions going through me.

The hardest part about being in
love with andrei is my family.

They're not on board at all
and are most concerned

That he doesn't
legitimately love me,

And he just wants
to come to america.

So I just always
have to constantly

Defend my relationship to them.

My dad is probably the
biggest naysayer,

Not okay with this at all.

Hi, baby.

Nothing, just hanging out.

You look really cute.

[ Giggles ] you're so sweet.

We applied for a k-1
visa 7 months ago,

And we're still waiting.

I don't know how much
longer it's going to take,

And it's really frustrating.

No, but I'm, like, becoming more
and more stressed every day

With the whole visa process.

I know, but it's annoying.

I'm sick of waiting.

**

Yeah.

I want to come there to dublin
for your visa interview anyway.

So either way, we'll be together
and we'll make it work, right?

The interview is the final
step in the k-1 visa process.

If he passes, he could be in
america a few weeks later.

Then, he needs to
win over my dad,

Which isn't going to be easy.

I miss you.

They're both very
dominant, and, you know,

It's their way or the highway.

So I just feel like
they might clash.

So I'm afraid that it's going to
be a weird, awkward situation.

Love you, baby. Bye.

**

* Told myself to take it slow *

* Wait and see where
this will go *

* Check me now,
what do you know? *

* I'm headfirst, all-in,
no chute, no wings *

Mae.

You ready to wake up? Unh-unh.

[ Laughs ]

My name is nicole.

I'm 22, and I'm from
bradenton, florida.

Mae, where are you?

There you are.

[ Laughs ]

I have a daughter,
and her name is mae.

She is 2 1/2 years old, and
she is the light of my life.

Oh, lion!

You see your lion?

Oh, bunny!

Come on, bunny.

Being a single mom is tough,

But my life has
changed since I met

Azan last year.

Azan is different than any
other guys I've ever met.

Even though he lives halfway
across the world in morocco,

I fell for him hard.

I met azan for the first time
in person about 7 months ago

On my trip to morocco.

Nicole: I can't believe
I'm finally here.

It feels really
different and awesome.

It was so amazing to see him
in person for the first time.

But things changed
really quickly.

Literally, you're
making me feel like

I don't matter. Yeah, so...

I don't matter?

**

[ Sobbing ]

A shirt!

That's good.

I was really upset
and really sad.

And when I got home, everyone
was asking me, you know,

"Why after this? Why are
you still with him?

Why aren't you opening
your eyes," you know.

And I just didn't
know what to do.

Mae, do you want to see daddy?

What?

It's been about 6 months since
I've seen azan in person.

And a lot of things have changed
but, like, in a good way.

And we know that we
really love each other

And that we really want to go
through with the k-1 visa.

[ Phone ringing ]

I think we're so much
stronger as a couple now

And, you know, honestly,

I feel like we're,
like, so in love,

I think, yeah.

[ Phone ringing ]

Oh, what happened?

I don't actually meet all the
requirements for the k-1 visa.

I don't make enough annual
income to support me

And my daughter and
azan as a household.

So I need to get a sponsor.

How are y'all? Tyler:
good, how are you?

Good.

Nicole: my mom's
response was a flat no.

So I asked my dad and
my stepmom to sponsor

Azan for the k-1 visa,

And right now, he's still
thinking about it.

I told my parents if I
don't find a way for azan

To be sponsored, then
there's a possibility

I could go live with
him abroad in morocco.

And that means uprooting mae
and taking her with me.

Decision to not sponsor azan.

But as determined as she
was, she didn't give up.

I expected her to give
up a long time ago.

Well, we've been talking
about it a lot.

You know, one of the
things we considered

Is what you would do if
he didn't come here,

If you moved to another country
and take mae with you.

We want you here where we can
have an influence on your life

And on mae's life.

And we decided that
we'll sponsor him.

Really?

Aw!

I really don't think nicole
knows how much responsibility

We're taking on.

It's hard not to feel
bullied into it.

But that's nicole.

It's still our
lives on the line.

It's still...

Our world is going to
be turned upside down.

Do you understand that we're
sacrificing, that we're risking?

I know.

It's 10 years.

If you get divorced
after a few years,

We're still going to be
responsible for azan.

You feel like he's
not just using you?

No, I don't feel
like he's using me.

Not... Not really.

Because asking us to sponsor him

Would open us up to
being used by him.

You know, we do have a
couple of conditions.

In order for us to sponsor azan,
you have to have a good job,

And then, when he comes here,

That you guys don't live
together before you're married.

Oh, really?

Nicole: there are a
lot of trust issues

That me and azan
have to get through,

Because when I was in morocco,

We couldn't be a normal,
you know, couple.

So having to live separately
is going to be a lot harder.

Well, we love you, and
we want you to be happy.

But we're really counting on
you to take it seriously.

Just because he comes
here doesn't mean

You have to marry him.

I know.

We might be paying for
this for a very long time,

But you could be paying
for it even longer.

**

**

David: what's this?
Woman: seafood.

I am david, I am 48, and I'm
from louisville, kentucky.

I have three children
and five grandchildren.

I love them dearly
and miss them a lot

Because I'm currently
living in asia.

Man: hey. My name is david.

Okay. Where you come from?

America.

Yeah.

A little over 3 years
ago, I was 350 pounds.

I had just gotten a divorce
of my wife of 21 years.

I had lost my job.

I had lost my house, my cars.

I was absolutely destitute.

And then, finally, probably from
all the stress, I had a stroke.

My life was in a place that I
don't wish on my worst enemy.

Fast forward 3 years,

Kind of hit the restart
button on my life.

I had lost weight.

I was in a whole
new state of mind.

I packed my bags, and I went to
go have some fun in thailand.

And that's when I met
my true love, annie.

How I first met annie was,
I was sitting in a bar

Having a drink one evening,

And I happened to
hear someone singing,

And it was, like, this
voice of an angel.

I offered to buy her a drink,
and we started talking.

And we went out from there.

Our personalities complement
each other, I think,

Because we're very playful,

Maybe it's because I'm in love.

I'm happy. I feel young.

She is 24 years old,

But the mindset that she puts
me in or makes me feel is

I don't feel like a 48-year-old.

She's an amazing woman
who makes me feel like

I already hit the lottery.

After dating for a week or
two, I proposed to annie.

And, of course, she said "yes."

We are planning on moving
back to america together.

I'm annie, I'm 24 years old,

And I'm from thailand.

**

**

**

Where are you at?

Aw.

We have to get ready.
We have to go.

**

You want me to come here?

**

We go? Yeah, we can go.

Okay.

**

**

**

Cheers. I love you.

I think annie's
biggest misconception

Is that everybody in america
drives a luxury car

And that we all live
in these big houses

And have nannies and maids,

And that it's all hollywood.

And she hasn't
seen kentucky yet.

Oh, cheers. Look at this place.

Oh, thank you.

Oh.

Annie and I applied
for our k-1 visa

So we could go to
america to get married.

But we can't leave her country

Without annie's
family's approval,

And what's expected
is to pay a dowry

For annie's hand in marriage.

And usually, my
parents would pay.

But that's not going to happen
because I'm 48 years old,

And I still haven't
told my family yet.

I need to know how
much money-wise,

How much do we really
need for the dowry?

I really need for you to
find out from your family

Not what they're wanting, but
what they're okay with now.

My biggest fear about the
next 90 days is finances.

Annie doesn't really know
about my financial situation.

**

It's not good, but it's
what I can do now.

I'm offering annie's
family 50,000 baht,

Roughly $1,500 u.s. Dollars.

I don't know if
that's a good amount.

**

**

**

**

**

Hi! There you are.

Hi, sweetie. Good to see you.

Good to see you. Hi, sis.

Tonight, we're going out
for a big family dinner.

We're here for the party.

Thank you.

Pretty much everybody
in my family

Is against my
relationship with andrei.

I would say my dad is probably
the biggest naysayer.

How you doing, sweetie?

And everybody in the family is
taking his side because of it.

My family is
extremely outspoken.

So I feel like tonight,
we'll probably butt heads.

Everybody hungry?

Yeah. I'm hungry.

Here we go. Awesome.

Thank you. Waitress:
you're very welcome.

You know what's really funny?

Mom and walter came on
their first date here,

And I brought thomas here to
meet them for the first time,

And we sat in this room,
and now, he we are.

That's interesting.

So maybe I'll bring andrei here.

Well, the only one that
hasn't been here is him.

So, what is happening?

You're going over there?
You're coming back?

You're bringing him with you?

What?

In the back of her mind,

To work out, to be honest.

To be honest. I don't
agree with that.

I do.

So tonight, can we not
talk about andrei?

I'm just sick of defending him

To everybody and
our relationship.

So... Jen: to everybody?

I just want to not talk
about it if that's okay.

Who's "everybody," though?

Well, I'm not comfortable
with it at all.

What do you mean?

First off, I've never met him.

So I don't know if he is going
to be your right choice

For the rest of your life.

Everybody needs to trust
my judgment, you know?

And it makes it
even more difficult

When nobody's on your side.

Yeah, you know, nobody.

Jen: what do you mean, "nobody"?

I don't mean nobody,
I mean, like...

You keep saying nobody, but,
like, you've had all of us

On your side, like,
this whole time.

Well, I feel like the...

Chuck: why are you on her side?

Because she's my sister.

Like, I wanna support her.

I don't know him. I
don't know andrei.

I don't know him at all, but,
like, she's my sister so...

Do you think it's a good
idea though, what, you know?

I mean, not really, but,
like, she's my sister.

I'm going to support her.

We understand that she's going
through all those emotions,

And she's in love, and she's,
you know, cares about this guy,

Which we get it, and we want
to be supportive of that.

But, on the other side of
it, we've never me the guy,

But you're engaged to him?

I know, it's so weird
because it's...

Yeah.

Because she's never been
this head over heels

About anybody before.

But do I think that they're
doing it too quickly?

Kind of. You know?

I'm concerned about a
lifelong decision...

Jen: I am, too.

I'm concerned, too.
...with a man

That is going to
come over here...

And I agree with that.
...and marry my daughter

And, hopefully, support her

So she has a nice life,
raise kids, you know...

Mm-hmm... In america.

And I totally agree.

I don't want to see
her struggling or...

He has no skills.

Who says he doesn't have skills?

Dad, don't judge him
before you meet him.

Andrei has tried several
attempts to reach out

To my dad to talk to him
and get to know him.

And my dad is just totally
giving him the stiff arm

And doesn't want to,

I mean, I guess he doesn't
want to talk to him yet.

I guess he's just waiting
until they're in person.

You have decided
to marry this guy.

You got a ring on your finger.

It's not "this guy." You're
bringing him over here.

He's my fiancé... Okay.

...that I'm going to marry soon.

He has a name.
Haven't you talked

Through the details?
Nobody has even met him.

And I know for both of
you, when you meet him,

You're going to be like,
"I feel like a jackass...

Okay... Because I just thought

All of these things,

And he is the complete opposite
of what I anticipated."

You've already
made up your mind.

You're going to marry this guy.
He's a great guy.

He's going to come over here.

My question to you is, can
he support you financially?

Chuck: the biggest thing
that I'm worried about

Is that this guy doesn't
have anything to offer her.

He might be using my daughter
just to, like, get into america.

Above and beyond...

I think dad feels very concerned
that he's going to end up

Supporting andrei
when he comes here.

But I think... I'm
just going to end up

Supporting them all financially.

How else are they going to
pay their bills, on love?

No! How much money

Do you have in the bank?
Money doesn't define love.

Money is not love.
That's the point.

It's me being happy.

Sweetie, I'm sorry that we feel
like we're interrogating you.

But it's just, we just want...
I mean, can you imagine

Sitting in my seat? We
just just communication.

Like, let us know. I'm
literally sitting here

By myself with a million
questions a mile a minute.

So, it went exactly how I
thought it was going to go.

My family is thinking
the worst of andrei,

Like he's some cruel man
that wants to come here,

And he just wants to be in
america just to be in america,

But that's not him at all.

**

**

Thank you.

Oh, you're welcome.

David: before annie and
I come to america,

We're having a traditional thai
engagement party in her village.

You know, chris and nikki
will be here soon.

I'm so excited to see them.

Aw.

My best friend, chris,
and his wife, nikki,

Are visiting from america.

I just can't wait for
them to meet annie.

I'm so excited to
be able to show him

And share this with
him and nikki.

I mean, I love them so much.

It's going to be a great week.

Chris, I have known
for 16 years.

We have gone through ups
and downs together,

And he is like my brother.

Hey, hey, hey. [ Gasps ]

Oh, you're here! You made it!

[ Speaking thai ]

After my divorce pushed me
into that deep depression,

Chris basically bought me a
one-way ticket to thailand

And helped me hit the
restart button on my life.

Cheers. Welcome to bangkok.

Cheers.

And miss annie, you
look beautiful.

Beautiful color on you.

When I first heard
about annie, I said,

"Hey, buddy, I'm here for you.

I support that. I'm
happy for you."

David said that he was engaged

Because annie is the third girl.

But not the third... Don't
say, "this is not"...

It's not the third girl...
This is only his first...

This is the first girl
he actually proposed to.

This is the first
actual proposal,

But he's wanted to marry every
single girl he's dated.

Correct?

I'm not going to deny that.

Thank you.

I'm going to show you my support
and be here for wedding.

You're here and
nikki's here, and...

I'm ready for you guys to
come back to the states

And start a new life.
We're looking...

We're nervous, looking
forward to it.

So what can we expect at
the engagement party?

Good question.

The engagement party
has morphed its way

Into a lot more than what I
thought it was going to be.

So my mind has been
really focused

On a lot of things up there.

There's rings. There are monks.

There's food.

There's food for the prep.

There's a sin sod.

So, wait, what word did you say?

Sin sod. Sin sod.

What is that?

Sin sod is like a dowry.

Oh. Very old-fashioned here.

Kind of like buying your wife.

And it's a...

No, I know that, but it sounds
like when you're saying, "okay.

You pay the family."

But that's the dowry, I mean,
many cultures have that.

Different term. Chris:
yeah, it's centuries...

Yeah, we call it in
dowry in english.

Centuries old. No,
I'm not saying that.

Yeah, it's not buying.

It's just showing your
love for your wife.

We have it in nigeria. Right,
and respect her family.

You can't buy your wife.

Have y'all talked about
it all with them...

No... Or is it something

That you just do?

Yeah, it's not a
conversation we've had yet.

The focus is just as
I've gotten here,

And everything keeps
adding up and expensive,

And it's like a baht here,

A baht here, baht,
baht everywhere.

Talking about money again.

I've lent david quite a bit
of money over the years,

But nothing that I have
felt uncomfortable

Doing for my friend
and for my brother.

I'm more than positive that
david is going to ask chris

For more money because
right before we came,

He asked chris for money,
and chris sent it.

And I'm sure that
he needs more now.

I don't think annie is
in it for the money

Because, quite frankly, david
doesn't have any money.

So it's just been overwhelming.

The expenses are a
little bit more

Than what I envisioned
or what I was...

Do you have a plan?

Not yet. I'm working on it
because I really don't know.

David: because the
costs are adding up,

I don't know what I'm going
to do at this point.

I'm stressed.

**

Like this?

Mm-hmm. This?

I was really surprised
when my dad told me

That he was going
to sponsor azan.

I really didn't
expect it from him.

All right. You ready?

Close.

It's a really big
financial risk,

And I'm really appreciative that
he's going to do this for me

Because it's something
I never expected.

Look, plane.

Plane?

Do you want to go on a plane?

Wow. Whoa.

Whoa. Mae, look.

We're going to take a plane, and
we're going to go see azan.

So, I'm planning this big
trip back to morocco.

I'm going to be staying
with azan for 2 months,

And mae is actually
coming with me this time,

Which I'm really excited,
because azan's going to get

To meet her for the first time.

Come here. Let's
try to call azan.

Azan?

You know, I want
to think and say

That azan would be a
good father to mae.

But, as of right now,
honestly, I don't know.

And, you know, that's
what I need to see.

That's what's really important.

Say "work."

Work. No, no.

No, no, no. I don't like.

**

It's the day before me and
mae leave for morocco,

And we're here having
dinner with my family.

I'm a little nervous because
my mom is already mad

That I'm going to take
mae to morocco with me.

Waiter: you guys enjoy.
Thank you.

You're welcome.

Nicole: my mom still doesn't know
that my dad is going to sponsor azan,

And I don't know how
she's going to react.

So, I have some good news.

Oh, yeah? Yeah.

Dad and christie decided
to sponsor azan.

Really?

Yeah, isn't that
great news, mom?

**

You guys really want to
go through all that?

Is what she wants,

Should cater to that.

She just keeps bulldozing
her way through it.

That part worries me.

You know, originally, when
nicole approached me about this,

I was pretty adamant
about not doing it.

I didn't want to be a
crutch for nicole.

You know, she tends to get
herself into situations,

And then she expects
us to bail her out.

I'm not making anyone do
anything they don't want to.

Tyler: given nicole's
history, we're pretty sure

That she's going to
keep working on this

Until they are together,
whether we like it or not,

Whether it's here
in america or not.

We would rather her be here...

...if things go bad.

She doesn't understand
the word "no."

She doesn't understand
that things are different

From the way she
thinks they should be.

So it's going to be another
one of those hard lessons.

Christie: here's the kind
of tricky part for us is,

If something happens, or
you guys get divorced,

We're still responsible
for him up to 10 years.

Ten? Ten years after...

if we got divorced.

So basically, she's going
to hold the family hostage.

Mom, will you quit?

They already made
their decision.

I am not telling you that I
think azan is a bad person

Because I haven't really had an
opportunity to get to know him.

You should try and to
get to know him before.

Well, it'd be nice, but since he
doesn't seem to skype with me,

It's going to be kind of hard.

He's shy.

You can't have it both ways.

You can't tell us to
stay out of your life

And then tell us we have
to be in your life.

I tried to get you to talk
to him and get to know him.

Have you face... Skyped him?

He did send us a... A letter.

I mean, he sounds sincere.

He sounded like he wants
to be with nicole.

He's a good guy, and
you guys will see that

When you get to meet him.

Isn't there something we can do
to get to you leave mae here?

No.

The family said they'd pitch in.

I understand you guys
are worried about it,

But you guys shouldn't
be so worried.

You're going to be over there.

You're going to want to
enjoy your time with her.

You're going to have her
with you 100% of the time.

And she's going to be like this,
and you're not going to have...

Yeah, but that's going
to be real life anyways.

...five people to back you up.

You guys need to trust him and
trust me that I trust him.

Don't put yourself
in any situations

Where you could be in danger

Or mae could be in danger.

Think two or three times.

Everything will be okay.

Joe: she's old enough to
do what she wants to do,

But mae doesn't know
what she's getting into.

And we don't know what
mae's getting into,

And we're concerned.

And I'm pretty sure
if you need to,

You can probably shorten
up that round trip

So you can come back early.

You've got a lot more at stake.

[ Sighs ]

**

Molly: I just feel like I
just try to put brows on,

And everybody knows I
try to put brows on.

So can you help me?

I don't know about the brows,

But I can help you
with your bronzer.

Well, can you at least just try?

I had olivia when I
was in my early 20s,

And I was still trying
to finish college,

And I was working
two or three jobs,

And I wasn't married.

Can I just sit right here?

Can you just help me?

Olivia's dad has
not been present.

And before kensley came along,

It was just olivia and
I for a long time.

So even though she's

Sometimes she thinks she's
an adult in the house.

Let's see, this is just...

I don't know how good
this is looking.

Well, it's got to be
better than what I did

Because I looked like I had two
caterpillars up there drawn on.

I'm just trying to get ready
for when luis is coming.

Olivia is not really excited
about luis coming here.

You'll be okay to help
me try to be pretty?

Uh...

Even though she's
about to be an adult,

She still is a
little girl inside,

And I think she's worried that

Someone's going to
take her mom from her.

I'm still a little
uneasy with the idea

Of my mom getting married.

You know, please just be
happy luis is coming,

And he doesn't know
how to do makeup.

No, but he's going to be
right over our shoulder

While I'm up in here doing it.

He may not be. He may not care.

He may not, but he also might.

He's not from this country.

He doesn't know
how we do things.

He doesn't... Other countries
don't do stuff the same way.

He might think it's cool to
always be up in my business.

Well, makeup is universal.

What?

Why do you get so upset?

I don't think it's acceptable
to just get married,

And your kids
aren't even meeting

Who you're getting married until
they move into your house,

And it just doesn't
make sense to me.

He doesn't even want
me to wear makeup.

Did you know that?

You know what he told me?

What he tells me every night
when I don't have on any makeup,

That he thinks I'm beautiful.

So, that's a bonus.

Right? Right.

He does think I'm
beautiful, and he loves me,

And he wants to love you, too.

Okay. Okay?

And he's not going to take
me, like, away from you.

Are you kidding? Yeah.
He's really not.

He's already proven
that he is going to,

Because you've already
picked him over me before.

What are you talking about?

Because I went on a
trip to the dominican?

Yeah.

Because you were supposed
to take me to new york.

We're still going
to go to new york.

We're still going to travel.

Yeah, and now, luis
gets to go with us.

We're still going to be amazing.

Woo. Not necessarily!

Molly: she really thinks
that luis is going to come,

And he's going to be in
every moment that we have.

And I just want her to know that,
like, that's not the case.

I promise it's going
to be okay, okay?

It really is.

Like, for real. Okay.

And if it's not, then
we'll go from there,

But it is going to be okay.

**

[ Tearfully ] unh-unh.

[ No audio ]

[ Door slams ]

Jesus.

I don't want to talk to you.

Baby, listen.

I don't want to talk to you!

I don't want luis to come!
I didn't ask for this.

You forced it on me, and now...
Okay. Well, listen.

...you want me to cooperate,
and I don't want to do that.

I do understand. I'm
done with this.

All right.

[ Loud footsteps on stairs ]

[ Door closes ]

[ Sniffling ]

Okay.

Um, I just wish that
this wasn't happening.

My mom didn't ask me.

There was no, like, "you know,
is it okay if I just marry

Someone and move them
in to your house?"

It's just kind of
like it's happening,

And there's nothing
you can do about it,

And it just sucks.

That just really sucked.

I've done a great job.

I'm a good mom.

And I've put my kids first
a lot, and it's just time

That I do what I need
to do for me, too

And hope that it works
out for everybody.
