Friend of my father's owns a remote
outfitting business in Idaho.

His name is Gus McMillion.

He had a plane go missing.

Missing?

- As in stolen?

His son and daughter
were on it with a client.

Well, I was just, you know, observing

that for such a busy lawyer,
you sure are out of the office a lot.

Well, the office is kind of boring.

And this is not so much.

So you're using me to
play hooky from work.

This is work.

It's called fieldwork.

Mm.

Do you have any more observations,

or can we focus on the job?

Okay. So, Gus called you
when all this happened?

Uh, no, actually, I called him.

I was trying to book a trip for my dad.

He's been pretty sick lately.

And the minute Gus picked
up and I heard his voice,

I knew something bad had happened.

And I said I knew a guy that
could help, so here we are.

And his son Hank was flying the
plane when all this happened?

Yeah. Then, Madison, Hank's sister...

she was also on board with a client.

Let's go meet Gus.

[INDISTINCT CHATTER]

Gus.

Oh, Reenie.

- How you doing?
- Thanks for coming.

- Yeah.
- This the guy you told me about?

- Mm.
- Colter Shaw.

Reenie caught me up to
speed on the situation.

Your son and your
daughter went on a trip.

- They haven't returned.
- Well, then you know time's a-wasting.

Just follow me.

So, the lake is here.

It's right next to the Canadian border.

- What kind of plane?
- It's a Levinson A20.

And before you ask,
she told me about your fee.

Whatever it takes to find
my son and daughter.

They're alive. I know it.

[SIGHS]

What is it?

Uh, it was a float plane.

Limits the possibility of where
they could have put down.

Where was their last radio contact?

Here, then they signed off,

said they were gonna
check in at the lake.

A squall blew up.

Nasty sheer winds.

You check the storm report?

I did, and they were
flying right into it.

This waypoint here... this is
way far away from the lake,

even if they were skirting the weather.

Hank say why they were
so far off course?

No, and I should have asked,

but he was worried about the storm.

I told him to look for
a spot to put down

if he couldn't get above it.

And you contacted search and rescue?

I did. They did a preliminary
flyover, didn't find anything.

Said they were gonna do another flyover

in a couple hours, but
I am not one to wait.

Did you do a flyover?

I did. Spotted what looked
to be a debris field.

Cloud cover's too thick
to get a good look.

There wasn't a black box
or something with GPS?

Nah. It's an old plane, you know.

We fly mostly the same
routes in and out.

Hank's been trying to get me
to update the gear for years.

Can you get me in here, close to
the debris field that you found?

I can if you have jump experience.

- I do.
- Great.

I got my old Kodiak turboprop

and a jump kit.

I'd do it myself, but my
knees aren't worth a damn.

REENIE: Wait. What?
Jump, as in skydiving?

It's the only way in there.

How quickly can we be airborne?

- As quickly as you're ready.
- Okay.

Here you go. Jerky.

- It looks homemade.
- It is.

My dad. Teriyaki.

At least I think it is.

It's been in my bag a couple months.

But he makes me keep it just in case.

- In case of what?
- Oh, I don't know.

I get stranded in a
snowstorm without protein,

or you... jump out of a plane.

- I got to meet this dad of yours.
- [LAUGHS]

No, you don't.

He's a sh**t first, ask
questions later kind of guy,

and he's got a lot of theories.

- One of those.

Still, though, took you fishing.

Can't be that bad of a guy.

They diverted before the storm came in.

- Tried.

[GUS SIGHS]

When was this one taken?

It was about three years ago.

Hank caught a monster that day.

Almost pulled him off the boat.

You okay?

Yeah. I, uh... just thinking about
how much happier Hank used to be.

You know, I figured he'd
take over after I retired.

But he got this idea in his head

that he wanted to go out and
start up his own business.

You know, go solo.

You know, every kid has to prove

that they don't need their parents.

Nah, I get it. I let him go.

He went belly up pretty fast.

Came back about a year ago,

tail between his legs.

Wanted to work for me again.

Bet that was tough for you guys, huh?

I didn't mind.

I liked having him back.

Madison was happy.

Yeah.

GUS: She's a good influence on him.

REENIE: Yeah. Big sister.

You know, I know all about that.

Mine is bossy and never wrong.

She used to steal all my clothes, but...

I still love her.

[ENTRY BELLS JANGLE]

Can I help you?

I'm looking for a man

who was flown out on one of your planes.

Yesterday. Fishing.

Walter Bratton?

Walter Bratton.

That's him, right?

I called the emergency
contact number listed.

Nobody called back.

Are you a friend or family?

Yeah.

GUS: And your name is?

Nancy.

He probably would have put her
name on the emergency contact list.

He wouldn't have put my name down.

Yeah, he didn't put any name down.

Uh, no. I'm good.

[CHUCKLES]

Walter loves fishing.

Were you supposed to go

[SIGHS] Well, we lost
contact with the plane,

but don't worry, we have
people looking for them.

other clients on the plane?

No. My son and daughter.

we'll be able to reach you

- when we have more information.

[ENTRY BELLS JANGLE]

Bit of a strange ranger, isn't he?

wants with Bratton.

[SIGHS]

[BIRDS SINGING]

- REENIE: Colter?
- Yeah. You there with Gus?

Yeah. You're on speaker.

I found the plane.

There's no sign of Madison or Hank.

It looks like they tried to put
it down in a canopy break.

[SIGHS] How bad?

It's bad, but survivable.

I'll go after them next.

Found the client.

He's dead. Not from the crash.

He was sh*t with a large-caliber w*apon.

Madison carries a .44
Magnum for bear defense.

Fits the bill.

Hold on. Why would Madison
sh**t her own client?

That doesn't make any sense.

- No, it doesn't.
- REENIE: That's not all.

This guy came into the
hangar asking for Bratton.

He wouldn't leave his name,

but he asked who else was on the flight.

He was definitely looking for him.

This guy's got no wallet, no cell phone.

Wait a minute. What the hell is this?

I got a transponder here.

Like a tracking device?

It must have come from the luggage.

That guy that came looking,
he give you anything else?

Yeah. Bad vibes.

But he also showed us
a picture of Bratton.

I'll send you one now. You tell me.

- No, it's not him.

Then who the hell is this guy?

Reenie, everything okay?

REENIE [ON SPEAKER]: Not really.

This case is getting kind of weird.

I'm sending you a photo of
a dead man Colter found.

Wait, what?

Yeah. Near the plane crash.

Need to get an ID on this guy.

We'll work with Bobby and figure it out.

I'm trying to get some more information

about this client Hank
and Madison flew out.

I'm gonna send you a photo of his car.

[CAMERA SHUTTER CLICKS]

Can you get Bobby to run the plates?

TEDDI: Will do.

Are you at the car right now?

Faster if you find the registration.

Right. Uh, tried that. Doors are locked.

- VELMA: What are you doing?

[GRUNTS]

TEDDI: Reenie?

This is weird. I found the registration,

but the car belongs to a Holly Choi,

not a Walter Bratton.

[EXHALES]

[PHONE BUZZING]

- Colter?
- COLTER: Hey.

I followed the path from
the plane crash to a camp.

Got a couple of busted cell phones here.

Whoever it is didn't want to be tracked.

They weren't here long.

Someone's injured.

Any idea who?

Whoever it is,

they were in a great big hurry.

I checked the client's car.
Doesn't match the name he gave us.

Registered to a Holly Choi from Reno.

Maybe the car was stolen.

Who the hell is this guy,
and who's chasing him?

Maybe they were using Hank

and Madison to smuggle
something onto the plane

- that Gus didn't know about.
- To a remote lake?

[SIGHS] He changed the flight plan

before the storm set in.

Listen, when you searched that car,

is there anything you found
that might help us figure out

what the hell this guy wanted up here?

No, just this receipt to a place
called Big Rock Printing, Inc.

I mean, it could be nothing,
but I'm gonna check it out.

Time stamp on it's right
before he met with Hank

- and Madison.
- [g*nsh*t]

- Reenie?
- What the hell?

- [PANTING]

- [ENTRY BELLS JANGLE]
- Gus?

Gus?

- GUS [STRAINING]: In here.

Gus, are you okay? Hey, hey.

Who did this, huh? What happened?

What happened?

I sh*t him, but he got away.

[PLANE TAKING OFF]

Colter, that guy I told you about,

he came back and att*cked Gus.

Thankfully, he's okay.

If I was ten years younger,
I would have kicked his ass.

Still got off a sh*t.

Put a b*llet through his stomach.

He stole Gus' plane,

- the maps with our search grid.
- Headed my way.

Gus said there are several roads

he could put the plane down
between you and the border.

Is he alone, or did
he have an accomplice?

REENIE: Just him, I think.

I got some pictures of him on my phone.

Got one with a clear look of his face.

I'll try to get an ID.

Be good to know what I'm dealing with.

I'm right behind them.

They're probably headed
to the ranger station.

[BELL CHIMES]

or picked up something from here.

He found this receipt in her car
and he just wanted me to use it

to see if I can find out

who she's been running

for a Canadian passport.

- I'm gonna help you get out of there.

[GROANING, PANTING]

Where's Hank?

I don't know.

- Our client has him.
- Bratton?

Mm-hmm.

- How'd you get away?
- [UNZIPS BAG]

I took us up that ridge and...

when Bratton was distracted, I-I jumped.

You jumped?

- Mm-hmm.
- He just let you go?

Mm-mm, no, he...
he took a couple of sh*ts.

I think the angle was wrong, so...

he just took off.

- With Hank?
- Mm-hmm.

Bratton needed Hank to carry the money.

This is gonna hurt.

- [GROANING]
- All right, there you go.

All right.

"Help carry the money"?
So that's what this is all about?

Yeah. Yeah, he had a lot of it.

Too much for one person to carry, so...

he needed Hank. [SHAKY BREATH]

You have to find my brother.

- Please.

The first thing we need to do is
get you help, though, all right?

Once we do that, I can track them.

Now...

we got to get you back
up there, all right?

I'm not gonna lie to you,
it's gonna hurt like hell.

But you can do it.

- You need to be brave.
- Okay.

You need to concentrate
on your breathing, okay?

So you're gonna do four deep breaths in.

Just keep doing that, nice and calm.

[EQUIPMENT RATTLING]

[MADISON PANTING]

So Colter has the downed plane here.

What are they trying to get to?
It's literally the middle of nowhere.

Okay. Maybe he took
this trail right here.

Takes you to a little town
called Strand Lake,

- just over the border.
- Strand Lake... Strand Lake.

- Probably a bustling metropolis.
- Yeah.

But if I'm Bratton,

and I'm being followed...

Well, it's a great place to slip
across the border and disappear.

Yeah.

What if this was his plan, all along?

And then the plane crashed
and he had to improvise.

- [PHONE CHIMES]
- Oh.

- Is that Bobby?
- Uh, yeah.

He got the ID off the
dead guy at the plane.

- Ranger station's up that way.
- [PAINED GRUNT]

Are you gonna go after them?

Well, first I need to know
who I'm dealing with.

Tell me about this Bratton guy.

He paid Hank $5,000 to
change the flight plan.

Where'd he want you to land?

This river just over the border.

There's a slow stretch where
you can put the plane down.

And then the... the storm hit,

and Hank tried to put us down, but...

[CHUCKLES] ... you know...

he's done, he's done a lot
of stupid things, but this...

That's families for you. Come on.

- You all right?
- Yeah. [GRUNTS]

There you go. Come on.

Okay.

So you have a brother?

And a sister, yeah.

- [GRUNTS] So you know.
- I do.

I mean, Hank's not a bad guy,

he just doesn't think things through.

What about the dead guy at the plane?

Showed up, said he tracked us there

and before we knew what was happening,

Bratton sh*t him.

- With your g*n?
- Yeah.

I was pretty injured and...

Hank had hit his head,
so Bratton had the g*n.

What happened after that?

Bratton said that he'd
stolen money from...

dangerous people,

started marching us
at gunpoint. [GRUNTS]

Was he worried about
other men tracking him?

Yeah, he found some,
some sort of device,

like a chip they put in the money.

Got rid of it, told us to start walking.

I mean, he was pushing us as
hard as he could, but the...

- the money was so heavy.
- [PHONE BUZZING]

- Hey.
- Colter.

Found Madison. She's a little
shaken up, but she'll be all right.

- Oh, thank God.
- Bratton's got Hank.

Madison said he's making
a run for Canada.

Makes sense. That receipt
that I found in Bratton's car

was for Canadian passport photos.

We need to find out who
he stole the money from,

- who's after him.
- Yeah, did that.

Turns out he robbed
some dealers in Reno.

That dead guy you found at the plane?

- Works for them.
- What about the guy who att*cked Gus?

His name's Valtz.

Look, if Bratton stole that money,

they're not gonna stop
sending guys after him.

All right. I got to get
Madison some help.

There's a ranger station
not too far away.

Okay, I'll meet you there,

but you better hurry, all right?

This guy Valtz? He's coming your way.

I need to find Hank before he does.

- Careful.

[GRUNTS]

We'll get some help.

And where in Canada?

Near this town... Strand Lake.

Then what?

S-Some place called Pinewood.

He, uh, he said he needed
to be there before midnight

or-or else he was s-screwed.

Huh. That wasn't too hard, was it?

[MADISON SCREAMS, BOTH GRUNT]

- You okay?
- Mm-hmm.

[GROANS]

[ENGINE STARTS]

- I'm all right.
- You are far from okay, partner.

That bleedin' won't stop.

It's a through-and-through, right?

It looks that way, but I'm not a doctor.

Colter?

That man is gonna find
Hank and k*ll him.

I'm gonna make sure that doesn't happen.

[PANTING]

- You got any tea bags?
- Uh... Tea.

- Yes or no.
- Uh, yeah,

in the canister on the counter.

[GROANS]

What are you gonna do?

It's an old British Army trick.

At least that's what my dad told me.

The tannins in the tea
help block the capillaries.

I just need to stop bleeding.

Take some, put it in the exit wound.

I need you to drop me
off at the main road

and get her to a clinic.

headed to Strand Lake.

Says there's a guy there
who helps people vanish.

For a price, he can get you
off the grid. Guy's a ghost.

Need you to search something for me.

Madison said that Bratton
is trying to get to a place

- called Pinewood.
- Pinewood?

Okay. I located a Pinewood
Cabins and Resort

right over the border.

That's got to be where they're headed.

- Thanks.
- Bye.

Why is Bratton keeping Hank?

All that money, he needs a mule.

He'll hand him over
to Valtz if he has to.

Yeah, well, Valtz isn't gonna
stop until he gets that money.

Not if we stop him first.

Hank anywhere in here.

Close to the highway,
easy access for pickup.

Lots of places to wait
and hide in there.

It's where I'd pick.

Wait here. I'm gonna go look for them.

Look at all those cabins.

Look, you don't have time
to search 'em one by one.

Let's split up, cover more ground.

you go find the manager.

Don't go past the main office

[MUFFLED RADIO BROADCAST]

Anyone working?

FORECASTER: This time
of year, we'll take...

- ... all the sun we can get.

[BROADCAST CONTINUES INDISTINCTLY]

[COLTER GRUNTS]

[PHONE BUZZING]

- Reenie?
- Hey.

I'm in the office. The woman
at the front desk is dead.

She was sh*t in the throat.

Valtz has been here.

He has been here, too.

I got two more dead bodies.

What? Hank?

It's Bratton and another guy.

I'm guessing it's the man who
was gonna help him disappear.

I need you to find a place to
hide until the police get here.

What about Hank?

I don't know. I got a blood trail.

It's either Hank or Valtz.

Feel like Hank's still
got half the money.

I need to find him before Valtz does.

- Just stay put, okay?
- Got it.

[BREATHES DEEPLY]

To, what, buy him off? I don't know.

able to buy that guy off.

He's not gonna stop until he has
everything. Where's the money?

- Under the bed.

He's coming.

We got to get out of here.

We don't have time.

After you heal up a bit, of course.

the whole lake to yourselves.
