[owl hooting]

[male narrator] "Who'’s Geoffrey?"

It was a very busy day on the island of Sodor,

especially for Thomas, who was late

delivering his goods train to Brendham docks.

[train engine chugging]

Okay, Salty.

This one'’s yours.

On me way, matey! Har!

[horn toots]

[seagulls squawking]

[narrator] Then there was trouble.

[grunting]

Shiver me axles!

Huh?

- Huh? What? - Whoa!

Huh? Huh?

[gasps]

Ah! Oh!

Huh?

[seagulls squawking]

What happened there?

It wasn'’t our fault!

We were shunted too hard!

Who shunted those trucks and caused all this chaos?

It wasn'’t me!

Nor me, matey!

Well, somebody shoved us.

Thomas?

Me?

No, it definitely wasn'’t me.

It was... it was... uh, Geoffrey!

Who?

-Geoffrey! -Geoffrey?

I don'’t see any other engines around here.

Um, well, he was here a minute ago,

but now he'’s gone!

I'’ve never even heard of any Geoffrey.

What does he look like?

[narrator] Everyone wanted to know about Geoffrey,

but there was no Geoffrey.

Thomas had made him up to get himself out of trouble.

Uh, Geoffrey is a... steamie.

He'’s very big, and, uh...

[whistle blows]

He came over from the mainland.

Who came over from the mainland?

A big new steamie called Geoffrey.

A new steamie? Wow!

But where did he go?

[narrator] Annie and Clarabel had been

getting a fresh coat of paint at the steam works

when Thomas came back to collect them.

[Victor] Thomas, hello, my friend.

Hello, Victor.

I hear there'’s a new engine on Sodor.

I'’m very much looking forward to meeting him.

You tell him if ever he needs a new paint job

to come and see Victor.

By the way, what color is this Geoffrey?

Uh, he'’s... red.

[whistle toots]

Goodbye, Victor.

Red, hmm. Very smart.

When will wemeet Geoffrey, Thomas?

I don'’t want to talk about Geoffrey,

thank you very much.

[narrator] It seemed everybody wanted to meet Geoffrey.

[man] Hi, Thomas!

We'’d like to take a photo

of that new engine, Geoffrey.

Do you know where he is?

[sighs]

[train engine chugging]

Well, I hear this Geoffrey character is red.

In my opinion, there are already

too many red engines on Sodor.

I don'’t suppose he'’s very fast.

[Percy] Oh, yes he is.

Geoffrey is very fast.

He'’s so fast that nobody even saw him

leave Brendham Docks.

[Sir Topham Hatt] Geoffrey?

Geoffrey?

What'’s all this talk about Geoffrey?

I'’d like to know what this strange engine

is doing on my railway, but you, Thomas,

seem to be the only one who'’s seen him.

Well...

[chuckles]

The thing with Geoffrey is,

uh, he'’s very shy, sir.

Maybe we should just forget all about him

and pretend nothing ever happened.

No, I'’m sorry, Thomas, but I can'’t just

forget about Geoffrey.

Can you take me to see him, please?

But... that'’s... I can'’t do that,

because, uh... he'’s hiding!

Hiding? Where?

He'’s hiding in uh...

[whistle toots]

Henry'’s tunnel.

Well, then, take me to Henry'’s tunnel.

I... I think I'’d better go and see Geoffrey first, sir,

just to warn him you'’re coming.

What?

Thomas, come back! Stop!

[Clarabel] Thomas, what are you doing?

[Annie] Where are we going?

[whistle toots]

Thomas, what'’s wrong?

Slow down!

I don'’t like going backwards this fast!

[screaming]

Slow down!

[tires squeal]

Thomas!

Watch out!

What on earth is that silly little t*nk engine playing at?

[train engine chugging]

[panting]

[train engine chugging]

I think Thomas is stopped in the tunnel now, sir.

[grunting]

Thomas?

Thomas!

What'’s going on in there?

Is Geoffrey with you?

Yes, sir!

He'’s hiding here inside the tunnel, sir.

Who'’s here?

[Thomas] Shh!

We'’re the only ones here, Thomas.

I don'’t ever want to go that fast backwards again, Thomas!

Shh, will you?

Thomas, tell Geoffrey I'’d like to speak to him please.

Oh, uh, well...

[speaking in an accent] Hello, this is Geoffrey!

Sorry I can'’t come out, sir, but I'’m very, very shy.

Well, Geoffrey, shy or not,

you have caused confusion and delay.

Just you go easy when you'’re shunting cars in future.

Definitely, sir!

No more accidents from me, eh, Thomas?

[in normal voice] No, no more accidents, Geoffrey.

[laughs]

[speaking in an accent] Well, goodbye then.

Are you off?

Well, goodbye, Geoffrey!

[narrator] Thomas thought his plan

had worked very well,

but his troubles were only just beginning.

[whistle toots]

Fizzling fireboxes, what'’s that?

[train engine chugging]

[gasps] It'’s Spencer!

Look out!

Oh, no!

Fizzling fireboxes!

[brakes squealing]

- Whoa! - Whoa!

[groaning]

[Spencer] Out of my way!

Out of my way!

[train engine chugging]

[grunting]

Thomas and Spencer?

I don'’t understand.

Where'’s poor Geoffrey?

Who'’s Geoffrey?

He'’s a big red steamie from the mainland.

Didn'’t you see him in the tunnel?

There was no engine in the tunnel.

[chuckles] Except silly little Thomas.

That'’s what I said.

Thomas? Explain yourself.

I'’m sorry, sir.

I... I made Geoffrey up because I didn'’t wanna

get into trouble for causing that accident

at Brendham Docks.

Oh.

So it was you, was it, Thomas?

Now, listen.

We all have accidents.

Why, only this morning,

I smashed Lady Hatt'’s favorite teapot,

and do you know what I did?

Uh...you told her Geoffrey had done it?

No! I admitted it,

and you should have admitted it, too.

You caused a lot of chaos by making up

that silly story about Geoffrey.

I'’m sorry, sir.

I hope you can learn from your mistake this time.

Hmm... now, I need to get back to Knapford, Thomas,

to buy a new teapot.

So does this mean there is no Geoffrey?

-That'’s right, Percy. -What a shame.

That Geoffrey sounded like a really nice engine.
