[male narrator] "The Beast of Sodor."

It was a snowy, stormy night on the island of Sodor,

and all the steamies were in their beds.

But James had not yet come back to Tidmouth Sheds.

[Thomas] Spencer, what are you doing here?

Vicarstown Bridge is blocked.

So I have to spend the night in this place.

But where'’s James?

How should I know?

I'’m a private engine.

And I should be with the duke and duchess;

not here, blocked in by the snow.

[icicle cracks]

[Gordon laughs] Oh, dear.

Are private engines scared of a bit of snow?

[scoffs] Me? Scared?

I once rescued the duke

from the scariest snow beast of them all:

the Abominable Snowman.

[all laughing]

Oh, dear.

I hope I never see the Abominable Snowman.

[narrator] The next day,

the snow was even thicker.

Henry and Spencer had been sent to the shunting yard.

[car engine rumbles]

Oh, at last.

Can I go back to the mainland now, sir?

I'’m afraid not, Spencer.

The bridge is still blocked.

But the duke has agreed that you can help Henry.

Oh, but... but...

Must dash.

I'’m taking mother for lunch.

[engine revving]

But I'’m a duke'’s engine!

[Henry laughs]

And you'’re helping me.

Why do you need me to help?

Are you frightened we'’ll meet up with the...

Abominable Snowman?

[whimpers] The Abominable Snowman?

Where?

[laughing] Oh, Henry.

I haven'’t seen him yet.

[whistle toots]

[narrator] The snow was causing problems on the roads, too,

and Sir Topham Hatt was running late.

Oh, Mother is going to be cross.

I just know it.

[narrator] So he decided to take a shortcut.

[Sir Topham Hatt laughs]

[narrator] But then there was trouble.

[tires screech]

Whoa.

[yelling]

[wood crunches]

[Sir Topham Hatt grunts]

[Sir Topham Hatt exclaims]

Oh, botheration.

What to do now?

[train whistle toots]

[grunting]

Oh, Emily.

[yells]

The last time I was in snow like this

was when I rescued the duke from that Abominable Snowman.

[chuckles]

[exclaims]

[train engine chugging]

[wheels screech]

[whimpers] What is that?

It looks like the Abominable Snowman, Henry.

He'’s coming this way.

[train whistle toots]

Hello, Henry.

[yells]

Oh, it'’s you, Emily.

[laughs nervously]

I thought you were the Abominable Snowman.

Don'’t be silly, Henry.

There are no abominable snowmen here.

Perhaps not.

But you never know what'’s '’round the corner.

[Spencer chuckles]

[narrator] Meanwhile, Sir Topham Hatt wasn'’t having much luck.

[shivering] Oh.

Huh?

Henry and Spencer.

Henry! Spencer!

[Henry whimpers]

Did you hear that?

The Abominable Snowman is here.

[whimpers] It'’s here right now.

[train whistle toots]

Hello, Henry. Spencer.

Thomas!

Am I glad to see you.

Well, I'’m glad to see you too, Henry.

I don'’t suppose you'’ve seen Sir Topham Hatt, have you?

He hasn'’t turned up for luncheon.

And if there'’s one thing I can'’t stand, it'’s lateness.

Maybe the Abominable Snowman has taken him.

The Abominable Snowman.

Abominable Snowman?

Utter tish-tosh.

Come on, Thomas.

Yes, ma'’am.

[narrator] Henry and Spencer had almost reached Vicarstown

when they heard a strange noise.

-[deep horn blows] -[whimpers]

I'’ve told you.

You'’ve got a duke'’s engine to protect you.

[train engine chugging]

[sighs] Thanks, Rocky.

It'’s no good for my paint work

being stuck in a snowdrift all night.

We better go to the steam works to make sure you'’re okay.

[narrator] Henry and Spencer had delivered their cars.

Spencer knew he was supposed to help Henry

but he had had enough.

No more cars for me.

I'’m off to the sheds to get warm.

Be careful, Spencer.

You don'’t want to go off in the snow on your own

without a snowplow.

[laughs]

Don'’t worry, Henry.

I'’m not frightened of the...

[wheels screech]

Spencer, what is it? What'’s wrong?

[yells]

[groaning]

I don'’t believe it.

It'’s true! It'’s...

[both] The Abominable Snowman!

-[bursting] -Oh, no.

My valves burst. I'’m stranded!

-Oh, Henry! -[groaning]

Please, I can'’t get away!

[narrator] Henry wanted to run away from the Abominable Snowman.

But he didn'’t want to leave Spencer on his own.

Henry thought his boiler would burst with fright.

[yells]

[groans]

[narrator] But he had to protect his friend.

[whimpers]

[whistle toots]

Sir?

But you'’re not the Abominable Snowman.

Of course I'’m not.

-[Dowager Hatt] No. -[whistle toots]

[wheels screech]

You'’re the abominable controller.

Oh.

Where have you been? You'’ve missed our luncheon.

Uh, sorry, Mother.

I, um... I ran into a bit of trouble in the snow.

Oh, Henry, you really are a very brave engine.

Were you protecting Spencer from the Abominable Snowman?

[laughing]

Spencer.

Henry? Is that you?

Has it gone?

[laughs]

[Spencer] And then the Abominable Snowman went...

[growls]

I wasn'’t scared, of course.

I'’m a duke'’s engine, after all.

not Spencer, who had been the brave

and really useful engine.

[Thomas] Good night, Spencer.
