[Birds singing ]

[Owl hooting... ]

[Hen squawks ]

Cat: boo!

[Squawking ]

All: whoa!

[All laughing ]

Little bear: pudding hill, here we come!

Owl: it is a perfect day

For a picnic, little bear.

A picnic?

Oh, good.

My friends will need me along.

After all, what's a picnic

Without a nice little snake like me?

Just wait till you see the mountains.

Oh! What pretty flowers.

Here they come.

Closer...

Closer, emily.

Ready... Now!

[Shrieks ]

Something fell on me!

Duck: oh, no!

[Gasps ]

Hello, emily.

Oh...

No feet, it's just you.

You are glad to see me, aren't you?

Of course I am.

You're my very favorite snake.

Mine, too.

You can come to the picnic.

Good idea.

Come on, no feet.

Don't mind if I do.

We're all going to pudding hill.

This way.

[Others laugh and cheer ]

[Insects buzzing ]

[Hen moans ]

[Duck groans ]

Whew!

Just how high is this hill?

Too high.

I don't think I can go any further.

Me neither.

[Sighs ] we'll just rest here.

You go on without us.

But we're almost there.

Everyone has to come.

Hmm...

Emily.

Come on, hen.

Are you sure?

I'm riding on emily's hat.

You ride on little bear's back.

Well... If you insist.

[Grunts ]

Do I get a ride?

Cat?

I don't think that's...

[Grunts ]

I'm light as a feather.

No, you're not.

To pudding hill!

Owl: onward and upward!

Are we there yet?

Yes, are we there yet?

Look, there's the top!

Come on!

[Clucks excitedly ]

[Feet pattering ]

[Huffing and sighing ]

That wasn't so bad.

Oh!

[Quacking ]

[Moaning ]

Hen: it's beautiful!

[Hawk cry echoes ]

We're up so high!

Snake: I can almost touch the clouds!

Ah... Doesn't that breeze feel good?

Mmm...

Oh, my hat!

No feet!

Whee!

Look at me!

[Grunts ]

Whoa... Oh!

[Screaming ]: whoa!

[Squawks ]

Hen! You saved no feet!

Oh, thank you, hen.

No offense, but I'm not

Accustomed to wearing snakes.

Sorry.

[Wind blows ]

My hat!

[Laughing ]

I can help!

Little bear: can you get it, cat?

[Yowling ]

Whoo!

I can't see a thing!

Owl, this way!

Which way?

Cat: I got it! Run!

Come on, hen!

We got it!

Hey!

Emily: watch out, no feet.

Whoa.

Careful, no feet.

I'll get it.

[Voices and laughter fade ]

Oh... I don't want to chase after that silly hat anyway.

[Licks ]

Mmm...

Honey sandwiches!

Yummy!

[Laughing ]

[Cheering ]

Do I look like emily?

Emily: oh, little bear.

You look silly.

Give it back.

Come and get it, emily.

[Laughing ]

Emily: I'll get you.

Oh... Uh-oh.

Huh?

Oh.

Oh.

[Laughing ]

No, stop!

The hat looks better on you anyway.

Bye.

Emily: look out below!

[Lands, grunts ]

I'm hungry.

Me, too.

[Sniffing excitedly ]

Mmm, this one must be fish.

Ah...

Where's no feet?

Emily:yoo-hoo,no feet!

Mmm, honey sandwich.

Hi, there!

[Gasps ]

No feet!

I almost ate you.

But you didn't.

Why don't you wriggle out of there

So I can eat my sandwich?

You don't love me.

Oh, no feet.

I do so love you...

Only not in my sandwich.

Everybody who loves no feet

Give a cheer.

Yeah.

Hip, hip...

All: hooray!

[Echoing ] hooray!

Hip, hip...

All [echoing ]: hooray!

Little bear: see, no feet.

Even pudding hill is cheering.

Thanks, everybody.

Really, it's more than I deserve.

I think we all deserve a cheer.

All: hip, hip, hooray!

Hip, hip, hooray!

Hip, hip, hooray!

[All laughing ]

I'm a little sticky.

[Laughing ]

Do you love me?

[Squawks ]

Oh, dear.

Here we go again.

[All laughing... ]

Little bear: here, mother bear, this is for you.

Thank you, little bear.

I love the colors.

What will you draw next?

Hmm.

Something strange.

Something I've never seen before.

Mysterious creatures.

And where are you going to find these mysterious creatures?

In the woods.

[Chattering... ]

[Squeaking ]

[Bird twittering ]

Oh.

A butterfly.

I'm a moth.

Could you speak a little louder, please?

I'm not a butterfly!

I'm a moth.

Not a butterfly, a moth.

That's me.

Then I'll call you "not a butterfly moth."

Would you like me to draw your picture?

Yes, please.

[Giggles ] that tickles.

There.

How do you like it?

You made me look so beautiful.

That's because you are beautiful.

Thank you.

That must be a very old tree.

And very mysterious.

[Sighs ]

[Humming ]

Huh?

[Gasps ]

Oh.

What are you doing up there?

I'm sorry.

I thought you were a stone.

Well, I'm not a stone.

I'm a turtle.

You can stay up there, if you like.

Thanks.

"Not a stone turtle."

Very mysterious.

Mysterious? Me?

I'm looking for mysterious creatures.

I can give you a ride, if you like.

And you can look for more.

Oh, yes, please.

Hang on.

Hmm.

Hmm.

Why did you stop?

Did you see a mysterious creature?

[Sighs ] no, but it's time for a little rest now.

Would you like me to draw your picture?

Well, if you like.

Mm-hmm.

Hmm... Hmm...

There.

What do you think of that?

My, my.

I do look rather mysterious, don't i?

Very.

Now I better get going.

There's lots of exploring to do!

I'll be taking a nap now.

[Yawns ]

Good-bye.

[Snoring ]

[Whispers ]: good-bye.

[Snoring ]

[Laughs ]

[Loud pecking above ]

Interesting.

[Pecking resumes ]

Hey, down there, you're disturbing my lunch.

A talking tree!

How mysterious.

No it isn't, it's me.

I'm a woodpecker and you're disturbing my lunch.

Your lunch?

Yes, my lunch.

I eat the bugs that hide in the bark.

Hmm.

Oh, let's not discuss it.

What are you doing here?

I'm exploring these woods

And making drawings of all the mysterious creatures I discover.

Well, you can draw my picture if you want.

I'm sort of mysterious.

Would you like it upside down, or downside up?

Both would be nice.

That's upside down.

And that's downside up.

Excellent.

I'm very flattered.

I'll call you "upside down, downside up woodpecker."

Very good!

You can draw me any time.

But not lunchtime.

Right!

Well, I must be getting back to my lunch.

Oh, yes, and I should be going.

Um, excuse me, upside-up woodpecker

Have you seen a nice little house

With a chimney around here?

It looks like this.

Wait here.

There's a little house just like that right over that way.

Thank you!

Hmm.

Hmm.

Uh-oh.

A mysterious creature.

[Gasps ]

Mother bear!

I thought you were a mysterious creature.

Did you find any?

Oh, yes.

See?

I've drawn the "not a butterfly moth"

The "not a stone turtle"

"Upside down, downside up woodpecker."

Oh, those sound very mysterious.

Will you help me find more mysterious creatures?

I'd love to.

I'm glad you came out to the woods, mother bear.

So am i, little bear.

So am i.

[Birds chirping ]

[Bird whistles ]

[Waves wash beach ]

[Seagulls cry ]

[Grunting ]

Whoops.

[Crabs splash into water ]

[Sighs happily ]

[Seagulls crying ]

[Crying... ]

Hmm...

[Gasps ]

[Blowing and humming ]

Good morning, whale.

[Little bear laughs ]

[Whale hums low note ]

Hi. I'm glad you came back.

I didn't know if I'd ever see you again.

[Whale rumbles ]

[Giggles ]

Yes, I enjoyed our talk, too.

Now, where were we?

[Whale sighs and clicks ]

Oh, yes.

Where all the water comes from.

I told you about the rain, and the snow.

[In very deep voice ]: snow...

But you know about that.

There are places on the land

That have snow all the time.

Like the north pole.

North pole.

[Clicks ]

Oh, you've been there.

[Rumbles ]

But then there are mountains

That have snow all the time, too.

They're very beautiful.

And then there are waterfalls

And fast rivers, and lakes.

[Whale toots ]

Beautiful lakes that make it look

Like they are two mountains

Only one's upside down.

Ooh.

And in the forest, where I live

There's lakes, too, with lots of fish in them.

I like to go fishing.

Oops.

[Rumbles ]: fishing?

Well, they're only little fish.

[Slowly ]: o... Kay.

Oh, you don't mind.

Good.

There must be lots of fish in the ocean.

[Whoops ]

[Clicks ]

Millions and millions?

Wow. [Hums ]

You have mountains in the ocean, too?

[Whale sighs and clicks ]

Amazing!

[Hums and clicks ]

[Hums and pops ]

Interesting.

They sound like something we have

Called flowers.

Emily likes flowers.

E-mi-ly?

Emily? She's my friend, too.

She just moved to the forest

With her granny and tutu.

[Slowly ]: tu-tu?

Tutu's a little dog.

[Sighs ]

Uh-huh.

Are you getting hungry?

[Rumbles ]

Um, peanut butter and jelly.

Oh, it's a sandwich.

[Rumbles ]

Just try a bite.

You might like it.

[Water sloshing ]

[Deep moaning ]

Very interesting.

[Water bubbling... ]

Would you like another one?

They're kind of little for some...

[Toots ]

Oh, okay.

[Rumbles and clicks ]

Anyway, so, emily is my friend...

[Laughing ]

And cat and duck and owl and hen.

We play together a lot.

Do you have lots of friends to play with?

[Hums and clicks ]

Whoa!

[Whale drops voice] to a rumble ]

[High, sweet squeals ]

[Clicks twice ]

[Moans ]

[Clicks and pops ]

Amazing!

[Moans agreement ]

[Little bear giggles ]

That sounds like fun.

Mm-hmm.

And do you go on picnics

With mother whale and father whale?

[Rumbles ]

[Little bear laughs ]

Oh.

That's just for little whales.

And you're a big whale.

I understand.

[Whale rumbles, clicks, pops ]

Let's see, what else can I tell you

About the land?

[Whale moans inquisitively ]

[Clicking steadily ]

That's all I can think of for now.

I guess.

Oh... It's getting late.

I better get home.

[Rumbles ]

[Laughs ]

Me, too.

[Clicking steadily ]

Do you think you can come here again?

[Moans ]

I know, I'm worried

Somebody else might see you, too.

[Hums ] [kisses paw ]

Good-bye, whale.

Good-bye!

[Rumbling ]

[Seagulls cry ]

[Sniffing ]

You smell like the ocean, little bear.

I do?

Mm-hmm. Were you down at the bay today?

Yes.

Oh. Did you have fun?

Yes.

Good.

Father bear?

Mm-hmm.

You're a fisherman

And you catch big fish.

Mm-hmm.

Really big fish?

As big as I can.

[Knitting needles click ]

Would you ever catch a whale?

Oh, good gracious, no.

You wouldn't?

No, a whale would be

Much too big for my little boat.

Besides, I like whales.

You do?

Mm-hmm.

I think they're magnificent creatures.

[Sighs happily ]

I do, too.

Father bear?

Mm-hmm.

I have a new friend

I'd like you to meet someday.

Oh, well, tell me

About your new friend.

Little bear: well, he's really, really big.

Father bear: really?
