01x11 - Chain of Command

Post by bunniefuu »

- Triplicate girl,
open another channel.

We can't lose them.

- I'm trying!

- How are you holding up?

- The storm is getting worse.

United planet ships
are on their way,

But we fear they won't
make it in time.

We need help.

Lightning lad,
please hurry.

- Bouncing boy,
increase speed to full power.

[Everyone groaning]

- With this kind
of turbulence outside,

It could tear
the cruiser apart.

- This isn't just any planet
in trouble.

It's my home.

[Theme music playing]

- What's our e.t.a.?

- Uh, about 2 minutes less
than the last time you asked.

- Computo, screen up.

Begin history files.

I'll keep this brief to get you
all up to speed.

Wyneth is the bread basket
of the galaxy.

It supplies most of the food
for the entire quadrant.

Silo alpha can store
a decade's food supply.

- You're a farm boy?

- An industrial
agrarian technician.

Cosmic storms in this sector
always made wyneth a target

For destructive weather.

That was until we built
the core diffuser station.

Now it turns their energy
into useable power.

- But the station was built

To absorb atmospheric
disturbances
up to 150 megabars.

From the looks of this one,
it's at least 500,

Possibly more.

- That's why our first priority

Is to make sure the station
doesn't overload.

- I know how hard it must be
to see your home in trouble.

Whatever you need,
we'll be at your side.

- It's worse than we thought.

- Saturn girl, can you get
a read on my people from here?

- Yes.

Everyone has evacuated
to the central storm shelter.

They're afraid...

But safe.

- Everyone?

- Your parents are fine.

- Aah!

Oh!

- The cruiser wasn't built
for 500 megabars, either.

We cannot land in this storm.

- Then we'll take
the battle pod.

Bouncing boy, you and the trips
man the cruiser.

The rest of you are with me.

- Ugh. Colossal boy,

Are you sure you don't get
any smaller?

- Ha. Might have more room
in here without your big head.

- We're going down.

Brace yourselves.

- Unh! Ahh!

Bouncing boy: everyone okay?

- We're all fine.

- Looks like we got here
just in time.

Now, remember, the first thing
we've got to do is...

- Say hello to
your long lost leader.

- Cosmic boy, you're here!

- It's good to see you.

- Hey, cb1.

- Hey, cb2.

- Hi. I'm...

- Superman. It is so great
to finally meet you.

You're like a hero to me...

Or will be.

- Nice to meet you, too.

- What are you doing here?

- We were returning to earth
when the distress call came in.

Changed course
to see how we could help.

- "We"?

- I'd like for you all
to meet ferro lad.

He's going to be a great
addition to the team.

- Really looking forward
to working with you guys.

- Uh...

Why don't you show everyone
what you can do?

- Well, I hate to spoil
your little demonstration,

But we've got a job to do.

Saturn girl and superman,
come with me to check out
the core diffuser, while...

- The system is nearing
maximum capacity.

It's going to take
every hand we've got
to tackle this.

Superman, lightning lad,
colossal boy, and ferro lad,

I need you
to stabilize the building.

Saturn girl, brainiac 5,
we're going to the core.

- So much for standing
by my side.

[Loud crash]

- We've got malfunctions
in almost every system.

I can't begin repairing anything
until the core's contained.

- I'll hold it
as long as I can.

Unh!

- Who does cosmic boy
think he is,

Bringing in a new member
without an audition?

- Keep the generator steady

While I get this turbine
spinning again.

- Seems like he made
a good choice to me.

- The generator!
It's overloading!

[Generator stops]

- Secure the building
before the weather... Aah!

- [Groaning]

I can't contain this thing
much longer!

Aah!

- Aah!

Unh!

There's enough radiation
in there to take out
half the planet.

Superman, we need your help.

- The communicator's
not working.

Energy from the core
must be jamming
the transmission.

- But you've still got me.

Superman, we need to get
the core as far from here
as possible.

- Piece of cake.

Aah!

Aah!

[Thunder]

- Come on, superman.

I'm not getting
a read on him.

Either he's unconscious or...

- There he is.

I'm going in.

Don't mess up.
Don't mess up.

- You're doin' fine.

- I've almost got him.

Just gotta get around this...

Oh, no.

Where'd he go?!

- [Groaning]

- You got him!

- Ha!

Uh-oh.

Whew.

- He's in!

[Colossal boy grunting]

- Without the core, there's
nothing to control the weather.

- We've got to get
the power station back on-line.

It's the only thing
that will temper the storms.

- The core is gone,

And, soon, the rest
of the planet will be, too.

We've got to save
whatever we can.

- I don't have time
to argue, lightning lad.

- Neither do i.

Who's coming with me?

- I'll go.

- You will?

- It's getting
a little crowded in here.

I'm in.

- I'll be staying.

- Anyone else?

- Saturn girl, if we lose
communication again,

You're our only link.

I need you here.

- I-i'm sorry, lightning lad.

- Let's go.

- Aah!

- [Straining]

- You don't like me,
do you?

- It's hard to trust someone
when you can't see their face.

- I'm doing you a favor,
believe me.

You don't want to see
what's under this mask.

- I'm fine, really.

- You were almost
just blown to bits.

Would it hurt you
to relax for a minute?

- Unh!

- They're just doing
damage control,

Going wherever the storm blows.

Can't they see there's
a pattern to these things?

- Why are you telling me?

Tell them.

[Beep]

- Lightning lad, I think
there's a way to predict

Where the next weather system
is coming from.

If you knew where
it was going to hit,

You could fortify
the structures first.

- We've got it
under control.

You just keep an eye
on superman

And make sure nothing happens
to the cruiser.

I'm the one on the planet.

I know
the situation better.

- Yeah, I guess
you're right.

- You shouldn't give up
so easily.

- Lie down.

You need to rest.

Take it easy.

- Superman, if you thought
the storms in the upper
atmosphere were bad before,

They're 10 times worse now.

- Thanks for your concern,

But I need to get back.

- Hey!
- Hey!

- How come no one ever listens?

Brainiac: we should be able
to replace the core

With an anti-fusion
magnetized storage system.

- Let's see how it's working.

- Can I help
with anything?

- Step back.

I don't want you to get hurt.

- We can't save everything!

- Yah!

Hah! Yah!

Hah!

Superman!

Help me knock out
these hail stones.

If we can keep it up
until this storm cell
blows over,

The farm might stand a chance.

No!

- There's nothing more
we can do here.

We've got to go.

Lightning lad!

- It was my home.

I tried everything I could,
but it just wasn't enough.

- Lightning lad, superman,

Brainiac 5 has just repaired
the power system.

- Come on.

This isn't over.

- Once it's recharged,
the storm should subside.

- Good job, brainy.

Hey, where are you going?

- The people of wyneth
are afraid for their lives.

I'm going to the shelter
to help.

- You're too vulnerable
out there, saturn girl.

You should stay here
where it's safe.

- While you were away,
I handled much worse than this.

You don't have to treat me
like a child, cosmic boy.

- I didn't mean...

- There's another storm coming,

And it's gonna hit
before they can get
the power station on-line.

The storm's point of impact
is right here...

The hydroelectric dam.

When it hits, the dam will
rupture, flooding the basin,

Causing a mudslide
that'll divert

Enough earth and water
to create a sinkhole

The size of new metropolis

Exactly at the...

- Underground shelter.

You've got to tell the others!

- There's another storm coming.

Cosmic boy:
thanks, bouncing boy,

But we've got it covered.

The power station's
almost back on-line.

- You've got to make 'em listen.

- It's going to hit now,

And the chain reaction
it will cause

Is going straight
for the shelter.

- Saturn girl...

- Superman and I can start
the evacuation.

Bouncing boy:
you don't have the time.

I'm the only one who's got
a clear picture of things.

We can use the storms
to our advantage

And stop this disaster
in its tracks,

But only if you do
exactly what I say.

So listen up!

Cosmic boy: alright, bouncy,
what's the plan?

- Colossal boy, head to the dam.

Lightning lad, you and ferro lad
go to the forest.

Superman,
I need you in the fields.

Precise coordinates are being
sent to your flight rings.

Colossal boy, make a hole
in the eastern face of the dam.

- Are you nuts?

- Do it!

- Unh!

[Baby crying]

[Loud crashes outside]

- Be calm.

The legion is here.

You will be alright.

- What are we doing here?

We should be evacuating
the shelters.

Bouncing boy: saturn girl
has everything under control,
lightning lad.

I need you to start a fire.

The intense heat of the flames
will divert the water

To where I need it to go.

- A controlled flood.
Smart.

- Well, how 'bout that?

Wonder what else
he's gonna do?

- Bouncing boy,
what am I waiting for?

Bouncing boy: blow the tornado
point-5 degrees west,

And don't stop
till I tell you.

Go!

- We're back on-line.

- You did it, bouncing boy!

- Man, I'm glad that's over.

- The united planets,

Right on time.

- I hope I never see
another storm again.

- I'm sure the folks on wyneth
feel the same way.

- Even if they do,
with the upgrades I made,

The power station can now handle
a 600-megabar disturbance.

- Good thing we got it
back on-line.

- You always have to be right,
don't you?

- Is something bothering you?

- As a matter of fact,
there is.

What makes you think you can
leave the team for months

And still be in charge?

- I didn't leave the team.

Every day, I'm out there,

Trying to bring us
legitimacy.

A lot of people
still don't trust us.

- Well, maybe you should be
team diplomat

Instead of team leader.

- I'll just be over here.

- Well, if that's how you feel,
let's put it to a vote.

- An election?

Brainiac: per section 8
of the legion constitution,

An impromptu election
can be held

Any time there is
a challenge and concurrence.

- I challenge.

- I concur.

- Our new leader is...

Bouncing boy?

- I demand a recount!

- It's not a mistake,
bouncing boy,

Not after you proved yourself
during that crisis.

Mwah.

[Applause]

- Congratulations,
bouncing boy.

I'll make sure you get
the leader's badge

As soon as we're back on earth.

- Ooh. There's a badge?

- From now on,

I'll be happy
to follow your lead.

- Wowee.
So I'm the new leader.

I'm the leader?

I'm the leader.

I'm the leader?

All: yes! You're the leader!

- You'll do just fine.

And, besides, with all of our
worst enemies locked up tight,

Your turn in office
will be a breeze.
