♪ Ask Ruff First.

Hi!

Our question today is fromKendry and Nico, who ask...

Hey, Ruff! It's Kendry.

I'm here with my friend Nico,

and we really lovewatching birds.

We love to see more birdsin the backyard.

Birds need water for drinkingand cleaning themselves.

So, we have a birdbath for them.

So, the problem is thatthe birdbath keeps tipping over.

RUFF: Oh, man, look at that thing go.

Do you have any ideas on howwe can make it more stable?

An excellent question!

Luckily, I was once a bird

in the all-cat-and-dogmusical extravaganza,

Hello Birdie.

I played a bird full ofderring-do named Chirpo.

[cooing]

But one day, in rehearsal...

Now for a relaxing bath!

...a crucial scene was ruinedwhen the birdbath toppled over!

[screaming]

DIRECTOR:Cut!

RUFF: We ran the scene again...

[Ruff screams]DIRECTOR: Cut!

And again...

But with the same results.

Boy, was the director mad.

DIRECTOR:Say, what kind of actor are you?

If you can't make your birdbathlanding tomorrow, you're fired,

you see?

Fired!

RUFF: But that night,

one of the dancers in the chorusapproached me.

Her name was Bloom.

No, what was it?

Uh, Bis... uh, anyway,

she said maybeit wasn't my acting

that was ruining the scene.

I liked her right away.

What? You think the design ofthe birdbath is the problem?

She told me how, after the bigdance number the other day,

one hat rack tipped overand the other didn't.

And the only differencewas the size of the base.

The hat rack with the smallerbase tipped over.

So maybe, a larger base makesa hat rack more stable.

She explained that just maybethe same thing was going on

with the birdbath.

Maybe a birdbathwith a wider base would

make the birdbath more stableso it wouldn't tip over.

So Bosco-- or whatever hername was, I don't know--

worked with me through the night

making a birdbathwith a wider base.

And the next day...

Success!

The birdbath was now stableenough to hold me!

But the show was still a flop.

And that's the end of the story.

So a wider base makesa structure, like a birdbath,

more stable.

We'll take your advice.

So here's the stand thatthe birdbath was standing on,

but look how skinny it is.

I think we have to makethis thicker and more stable.

KENDRY: Me too.

NICO: Because the bottom partis why it's falling over.

RUFF: Yeah, even with those twoextra legs on the bottom,

the base is still really small.

I'm thinking thatwe should make another base

because, look-- this baseis just so narrow.

I think we should makethe base bigger,

like make it slant outwardlike the Egyptian pyramids did.

RUFF: Oh, right... the pyramidsare wide on the bottom!

That's a good idea.

So I got a whole bunchof flower pots here.

RUFF: That is a lotof flower pots.

KENDRY: Like, if we stackthe flower pots,

and then maybe like this...

But I think that'sa little bit too small.

RUFF: Looking pretty shaky too.

NICO: Let's try usingthe blue flower pot.

I think the blue one is betterbecause it starts out

with a much, much, much wider base.

NICO: And look,it balances very well.

KENDRY: It's perfect!

RUFF: It is perfect!

KENDRY: I think we shouldput the glue

on the rim of thisso it's super sturdy.

RUFF: Yes, glue!

NICO: Yeah, I think this isthe right amount of glue.

RUFF: Boy, that's a lot of glue.

NICO: Should we addsome duct tape too?

KENDRY: Yeah.

NICO: All right, let's get to work.

RUFF: But with glueand duct tape,

that thing's going nowhere.

NICO: Yeah, that's good.

RUFF: Perfect!

And stylish... more glue?

And now, the birdbath.

Boy, this thing's going to besuper stable!

NICO: I thinkthat's pretty good.

KENDRY: I think no squirrels, nodogs, no wind, no birds could

knock this guy down.

RUFF: All right, guys,careful...

It's cold and slippery out.

NICO: Yeah... pretty sturdy.KENDRY: Yeah!

NICO: Pretty good, right?KENDRY: Yeah!

BOTH: Thanks, Ruff!

RUFF: That's great!Glad to help.

You know, the only sad thing is,I'll never know the name

of that brave dancer who helpedme all those years ago.

I think it was Possumor Bison...

Uh... Gary?
