[sighs]

Ripple, I see youbehind the coral.

- Oh.

- Bubbles,you're behind the rock.

- Gah.- And Splash,

your tail isn't even hidden.- Wha--

- That was the quickesthide-and-seek ever.

- I barely had time to hide.

- Yeah, how'd you find usso fast?

- Uh, your tail wassticking out,

and you hid there the last time.

both: Oh.

- We've got to findsome new hiding spots.

- [groans]But where?

We found all the hiding spotsaround here.

- Hmm, maybe we shouldlook for new places

to play hide-and-seek.- That would help.

- Yeah.Hey, we should be adventurous.

We should journey where no fishhas journeyed before.

- Well, maybe notquite that far.

- We should play hide-and-seekin the deep.

- Ooh.- Yeah.

What's the deep?- Oh, oh, well,

it's this place way,way down below

where it's so darkyou can barely see anything.

- Sounds amazing.

[gulps]I'll wait here.

- Aw, Dunk,you don't have to puff up.

The deep will be great fun.

- Who's puffing up?We live in saltwater.

I'm just a little bloated.

- Hmm, I don't get it.

I mean, why don'tyou want to go?

It'll be a fun adventure.

- Why don't I want to go?

I admit, I havea little fear of the dark,

but there'sa very good reason for it.

- Because you can't see anythingin the dark

and you might get lost?

- Oh, I hadn't thought of that.

Okay, there are two very goodreasons.

- Because the darkcan be full of weird,

creepy creatures

who can suddenly sneak up on youout of nowhere

because you can't see them?

- Three very good reasons.

- Because the dark ischock-full--

- Please stop giving me reasons.

I was going to saybecause I've never been there.

- [chuckles]Well, you know what,

bestest buddy,there's only one way

to get overa fear of the unknown.

Let's go thereand get to know it.

Then you won't have a reasonto fear the dark.

all: Yeah.- Come on, everyone.

- Okay.

- But what aboutthe other three reasons?

- So, this is the deep.

- Yep, so glad we saw it.Let's go.

- Wait, wait, wait,wait, wait, wait!

We came here to playhide-and-seek.

Let's at least play one round.

- Oh, uh, okay.One quick round.

- [laughs]I'm it.

I'll count.Okay, here we go.

One, two, three...- Okay.

- Four, five...- Uh, uh...

- Oh, perfect.

- Oh, perfect.- [ grunts]

Dunk, this spot isonly big enough for one.

- Oh, uh, just scoot overa little.

- [grunts]Scoot over where?

Dunk.- Oh.

- Bubbles, just let mehide with you.

- [grunts]But I would if I could.

Way--oh.- What is happening?

- He won't let me hide.

I think he's afraid of the dark.

- Hey-o.

- Ah, well, you know what?Ripple, I see you.

- Oh.- Here's what I think.

We should go talkto my good friend Lu.

- Lu who?- Oh, Lu the explorer.

Yeah, Lu's the one who taught meall about the dark, dark deep.

- Great idea.

I bet Lu can help youget over your fear, Dunk.

- Maybe, but I also have a fearof meeting new creatures.

- Wh--let's just go.

[upbeat music]

Oh, Lu?

Lu, are you down here?

- Yoo-hoo, Lu!

- Oh, no one there.[chuckles weakly]

Let's go home.

- Yoo-hoo to you.

- Oh, uh, didn't meanto disturb you.

Sorry, ma'am.

- Ah, be right up.

- [laughs]- Hi there.

- You're Lu?

- Well, of course.

Who were you expecting,a giant squid?

- Oh, I just thoughtyou'd be, uh, kind of--

- What? What?- You know.

- What? What?- Uh...

- He thought Lu would be a boy.

- Oh, yeah, I get that a lot.

But as you can see,girls can be named Lu,

and they can befearless explorers.

- [giggles]- Ooh, I like that.

- [laughs]Thank you.

My name, Lu,is short for bioluminescent.

That means I make my own light

all with the helpof some tiny bacteria

that light up like this.

[all gasp]

all: Wow.Cool.

- In fact, with my light,I can see in the dark

and catch my food

all at the same time.

Isn't that right, Bob?

- You got that right, sweetums.[laughs]

- Bob?- Oh, where are my manners?

This is my husband, Bob.

He's such a sweetie.

Always right by my side.

- You got that right,sweetheart.

[both laugh]Nice to meet you, kids.

- Hi, Bob.- Nice to meet you.

- You two sure arean interesting couple

and so close.

- Oh, yeah, we are.Thanks.

- Hey, uh, sweetheart,would you mind

turning out the light?- Oh, sorry, sweetie.

You know what?

There are lots moreinteresting creatures

down in the abyss here.

Why don't wego see who we can meet?

- Oh, we'd love to.

- We wouldn't wantto trouble you.

Looks like a long way down.

- Oh, I love your manners, son.

But it's no trouble at all.

Here we go.[hums]

- [laughs]Let's go.

- Okay!

- Ugh.

- The dark is my friend.

- There are lots of wayscreatures live here in the dark,

and they survive just fine.

Hey, Biggie, where are you?

Ooh.[laughs]

- Why is your friend named--oh, never mind.

- Wow, those are some big eyes.[chuckles]

- Why are your eyes so small?

- Oh, everyone's eyesare made best

for where they live.

Biggie here needs very big eyesto take in

as much light as possibledown here in the deep.

- And that's howI can see enough to find food.

- Ah, I get it.

So Biggie needs big eyes

to find food.

But you don't have big eyes, Lu.

- What they lack in sizethey make up for in beauty.

- Oh, Bobby.[all laugh]

- Maybe it's not so strangedown here.

Well, are thereany other creatures

who live here who are friendly,of course?

- Hmm.Ooh, ooh, ooh,

you should meet my friendsthe firefly squid.

Hey, fireflies, where are you?

- Do the firefly squidlight up too?

- Oh, do they ever.It's hard to sleep

when they'rein the neighborhood.

- [laughs]Oh, here they are.

They use their lightsto talk to friends

or warn predators to stay away.- Ah!

- Because they'rebioluminescent?

- Excellent, Ripple.That's right.

They have their own way of lifedown here in the deep.

[laughs]♪ The deep, deep ocean ♪

♪ Such a remarkable place ♪

♪ But it's hardto see your fin ♪

♪ When it's rightin front of your face ♪

♪ Because it's dark ♪[together] ♪ Yes, it's dark ♪

- ♪ Dark and deepwhere we live and sleep ♪

- [laughs]- Amazing!

- Wow.- I guess life in the deep

isn't so scary after all,just different.

- That's what I've been tryingto tell her all along.

- Dunk!- Okay,

I may have beena teeny bit worried too,

but now I'm ready for anything.

- Even to play hide-and-seek?- Come on, Dunk.

- Let's hide together.- Okay.

- I know a good spot.- Okay, well, all right, well--

- Okay.- Well, I'm going to, uh--

I guess I'll be it.

Huh.Oh, well.

One, two, three...

Huh?Where are those guys?

- [giggles]Shh.

- Uh, you don't mindif I hide with you?

- Oh, of course not.

The more the merrier.

- Lu and I always hide together.

[both laugh]

- [whispering]Lu, turn your light off.

- Oh, yeah, thanks.

- Click.- Who said that?

- That was me.[all laugh]

- Hey, I found you.[all laugh]

Gotcha.

[laughs] Well, thanksfor showing us around, Lu.

- Sure.- I really liked meeting

all your bioluminescent friends.

- And Biggie wasreally interesting.

- Ah, thanks.You too, Bubbles.

- Ah.Bye, Biggie.

- Ooh, before you go,I have something for you, Dunk.

- [gasps]

- This little guyis called a clusterwink.

- [muffled]

- And he glowsright through his shell.

He doesn't belongdown here in the deep,

so can you take him backto the surface?

- Wow.

It's like my very own

bioluminescent nightlight.

- [laughs]- Aw, thanks, Lu.

- Sure.

- Wow, that really isan awesome clusterwink, Dunk.

- I know.

- Thank you.- [gasps]

- [laughs]- And he talks too.

- And we wouldn'thave ever found him

if we hadn't gone to visitmy friend Lu in the deep.

- I know.

I told you there was nothingto be afraid of.

[all laugh]- Oh.

Dunk.- Oh, boy.

Well, we'll haveto go back soon.

-<span> And now it's time to...

- What lives in the deep ocean?

- What is this strange creature?

[dramatic music]

Is it an alien from outer space?

♪ ♪

No, this animal lives in the deep ocean.

Right here on planet Earth.

It's a giant isopod.

Giant isopods are crustaceans

related to crabs and shrimp,

and they're huge because animals in the deep sea

tend to grow bigger

than their shallow-water relatives

I mean, are you kidding me?

Look at that thing. It's as big as that kid's face.

Look at these giant spider crabs.

These are the biggest crabs on Earth

with legs that can grow up to be -feet across.

Giant spider crabs and giant isopods

live in the deep ocean,

but the deep ocean

is mostly unexplored.

Imagine what other wonderful and surprising creatures

could be living down there.

[upbeat music]

- The deep ocean is amazing!

- This has been...

♪ ♪

- [laughing]Oh, yes, yes, yes!

Oh, hiya, Wave.- Hey, Splash.

You're even more zippythan usual.

What's up?- [laughs]

Well, today's the big day.

The Reeftown Rhythm Festival!

- Oh, that.[chuckles]

Yeah, I guess it is kind ofa big deal around here.

- Yeah.[laughs]

You know,I've been a lot of places,

but I've never beento a rhythm festival before.

Oh, the whole reef makes music,

and everyone dances and sings.

- That sounds real good,Splashy.

You go ahead and have yourselfa bopping good time.

- Oh, I will![laughs]

Thanks, Wave.See you there.

Whoo-hoo!- [sighs]

Yeah, I'm notso sure about that.

- [laughs]Bubbles, Bubbles!

The Reeftown Rhythm Festivalis ha-ha-happening.

- Yeah, don't I know it.

Let's go shake a tailfin.

- Oh, you mean like this?

♪ Ooh ooh ooh ♪- ♪ Go, Splash, go, Splash ♪

Do the Reeftown.- ♪ Ooh ooh ooh ♪

- Yeah.- ♪ Ooh ooh ♪

[horn blows]both: Whoa.

- [laughs]Dunk, what are you doing?

- Hey, everybody.[chuckles]

Didn't know I could playa musical instrument, did you?

I'm gonna join the music makingat the Reeftown Rhythm Festival.

- Whoa, you're playinga conch shell?

- Why not?

Conch shells may onlyplay one note,

but at least it's a loud one.

[horn blows]both: Wow.

- Oh, Dunk!Dunk.

I don't know that right now is

a great timefor a conch shell jam.

I think a couple hundred ofmy brothers were still sleeping.

- [laughs]- Uh, oops.

[upbeat music playing]- [gasps] Actually,

I think it's the perfect time.Listen, everyone.

all: The festival.

It's starting.Come on, everybody.

- Oh, boy.

- My first festival.- Fun!

- [laughs]- Ah, yeah.

- Wait for me.- Wow.

- What a festival.

I can't believe this.- Hey, Splash.

- Hey, I still got it, yeah.- Hi, Bubbles.

- [laughs]

- Oh, look at those two.

- Everyone, enjoy the festival.- Oh, look at me go.

- They've really gotsome rhythm.

- It's so, so...- [laughs]

- Magnificent.- Amazing.

- Special.- Yeah.

- You better believe it.

The Reeftown Rhythm Festival is

the most fin-tastic dayof the year.

- I think you're right, Zee.

Look at my fins go.

[laughs]- Ooh, yeah!

I'm feelingthat fin-tastic rhythm now.

- I wish every day wasReeftown Rhythm Festival.

- Yeah.It is so great

how everyone in Reeftown istotally into the spirit.

- Yeah.Well, not everybody.

Wait, where's Wave?- Huh?

- Probably hard at workdirecting traffic.

- What?Working?

Today?

Today is all about dancing.

- Hmm, I'm gonnago see where he is.

Ha, be right back.

Oh, don't raise the reeftoo much without me.

- I'm not making any promises.

- Ah, for a midsize fish,

Splash sure hasa whale-size heart.

- Amazing.

How does he fit itin his little tiny body?

- Huh?- Ah.

- [laughs]Hey, Wave.

- Hi, Splash.What are you doing?

Heading out somewhere?

- Well, actually,I came to see you.

Um, how come you're notdown at the Rhythm Festival

shaking a tentacle?[chuckles]

- Oh, yeah, well,I really shouldn't dance

on account of my,you know, fragile bones.

- What?[laughs]

Good one, Wave.

I happen to know for a fact

that octopusesare invertebrates.

You guys don't have any bones.

- Oh, you kids todaysure are smart.

- Wh--come on, Wave.What's going on?

- Okay.

I'm embarrassed about

the way I dance.

- Wh--you are?But, why?

- Swim back a bit.

I'll show you.

Do you promise not to laugh?

- Of course.We're friends.

- Five, six, seven, eight.

Sorry, I'm kind of havea hard time starting.

Here we go.

[grunting]

I told you, Splash.

I can't dance.

Octopuses have no rhythm.

A rhythm festival is no placefor a guy like me.

- But Wave,I thought your dancing was

fantastic.

- You did?- Yeah.

Ah, I gotta tell you, Wave,

I've been all over the ocean

and I can honestly sayI have never seen dancing

that, um, unique.

- Unique, huh?

Unique is good.- Yeah.

Hey you've got to show everyonein Reeftown your fancy moves.

- Oh, and here I thoughtI couldn't dance at all.

How wrong I was.[laughs]

- Well, let's go.[laughs]

Reeftown Rhythm Festival,here we come!

- Yes, I will follow you.

♪ ♪

- [laughing]

Whoo!

I can't believe Splash ismissing the Rhythm Festival.

- Yeah, it's so much fun.

- So have you heardabout Dunk's new dance?

It's all anyone istalking about.

- Really?Anyone who?

- Well, so far you and Bubbles.

That's all the anyonesI talked to about it.

[all laugh]

- Okay, so what'sthis new dance called?

- I call it The Puffer.

[all laugh]

- I love it.- Hey, everyone.

Here he is, Wave!

- Wave, you came to the party.

- He did morethan come to the party.

He brought the moves.

[laughs]Check it out.

- [grunting]

♪ ♪

- Oh, boy.Isn't he a great dancer, guys?

Huh?He's the best.

[laughs]Yeah, I told you, Wave.

They love it so muchthey're speechless.

- All right.- [laughs]

Whoo!- [laughs]

I think I likethis whole dancing thing.

[grunting]- [laughs]

You live your dream.Whoo!

You live your dream.Nice job, Wave.

- It's okay, everyone.Don't worry.

Yeah.No, no.

Wave just needs a little help.

He's lost controlof his tentacles.

- No, Flo, he--- You're gonna be fine, Wave.

You're gonna be fine.- Uh, Flo, I'm fine.

Really, I was just dancing.- Oh, oh.

I am so sorry, Wave.

I thought you were in distress.

- I knew this would happenif I came to the dance.

Splash, I really appreciateyou believing in me,

but I knew I had no placeat any rhythm festival.

- But Wave, the important thingis that you're here

with your friendsand you're having fun and--

just come back and dance again.

Everything will be fine.

- You got that right, Splash.

all: Gush!

- Wave's dancing is just finethe way it is.

His dancing's a little differentbecause he's an octopus,

and he's got a lot of brains.

- Well, sure, I mean we all know

that octopuses are super smart,right?

- Well, yeah, that's true,Bubbles,

but what I mean is thatthe way octopuses

like Wave here are built,

each of his eight tentacles

has its own nerve center.

It's almostlike having nine brains.

all: What?

- That is so cool.

- Really cool.[giggles]

- Nine brains?

I guess I need a tenth one,

because even I didn't know that.

- [laughs]- But, Gush,

why would Wave needeight or nine brains

or however many brains?

- Yeah, besides for dominatingthe dance floor.

[all laugh]- Well, say Wave's main brain

spots some prey or a predator.

It sends a signalto his tentacles.

At that point, the tentaclescan take over on their own.

- Wow.

That must be why some considerthe octopus

the smartest invertebratein the ocean.

- Guess that's why we octopuses

move in such a unique way.

Not everyone can dothe Wave dance.

- Yeah, but we can try.

Come on, everybody.Do the Wave dance.

- You guys are getting it.

Try a little more of, uh, this.

both: Oh.- [laughs]

- And of course,you gotta throw in one of these.

[grunting]- Oh, very nice, very nice.

- I think I'm about eight brainstoo short

of being able to do this dance.

- All right!- ♪ Do the Wave... ♪

- So what'sthis crazy new, uh, dance?

- ♪ The Wave,do the Wave ♪

- Takes me backto my college days.

[all laugh]

- [laughs]Give me some room.

♪ ♪

- Yeah.- This is great.

- Whoo-hoo!- Here he go.

- ♪ Reeftown is a music town ♪

♪ Jam-packedwith every happy sound ♪

♪ We're all so differentand play different parts ♪

♪ It all comes togetherwhen the music starts ♪

♪ That's the... ♪all: ♪ Rhythm of the reef ♪

- ♪ We got the spirit ♪

all: ♪ Rhythm of the reef ♪

- ♪ And you can hear itin the sweet jingle jangle ♪

♪ Of the coral triangle ♪

♪ That's the... ♪all: ♪ Rhythm of the reef ♪

- Ooh!

- It's a funky reef.

all: ♪ Rhythm of the reef ♪

- Dig this motif.

- Oh, move over, everybody.

This is what I like to callthe shrimp shuffle.

- Oh, dancing is the best.- Whoo!

- Sing it, girls.girls: ♪ We're harmonizing ♪

♪ The reef is rising ♪

- ♪ We make musicwhen we get the chance ♪

♪ We all haveour own way to dance ♪

- Ah, whoo!- ♪ Best music ever ♪

all: ♪ Rhythm of the reef ♪

- ♪ 'Cause weremaking it together ♪

all: ♪ We all play a part ♪

- Yeah![all laugh]

[all talking at once]

- Love that move.- Let's keep dancing.

- Aw, that was awesome.- Yeah!

- Reeftown is awesome.[horn blows]

- [laughs][all groan]

- [grunts]Uh, hey, my instrument.

- Sorry about that, Dunk.

Sometimes it's like my tentacles

have a mind of their own.[all laugh]

- Oh, I like that.all: Do the Wave!

- Do the Wave.

- Go, Wave.- Yeah.

- And now it's time to...

- Does an octopus havea skeleton?

- Oh, to be an octopus.

You could do incredible things with your body.

Because octopuses don't have a skeleton of any kind.

You could squeeze into tight places,

like an underwater magician.

You could disappear.

Where's the octopus now? [slide whistle]

Oh, there it is.

Wouldn't life be fun with no bones?

all: ♪ No-no-no-no-no bones... ♪

♪ ♪

- ♪ If I could live my life as an octopus ♪

♪ I wouldn't have to play by the regular rules ♪

♪ I could make my body smaller without a fuss ♪

♪ If I found a tiny place to squeeze into ♪

♪ 'Cause I'd have no bones ♪ all: ♪ No-no-no-no bones ♪

- ♪ I'd have exactly zero bones ♪

- ♪ Without my bones impeding ♪

♪ Then I could do some squeezing ♪

♪ Watch me squeeze... ♪
