Ahhh, night.

Glorious starry, starry night.

Yep, and the great big universe out there

Oh, yeah!

Makes me feel so small.

Oh, hello, Nature Cat!

Hal, what are you doing?

Yeah, man. What's with the jar?

Oh, this?

This, my friends, is my firefly catcher.

(Chuckling) I love fireflies.

You can ask anybody.

They'll tell you. I love 'em.

I don't see any fireflies.

That's because I haven't caught any yet.

But I will.

Oh oh oh! Firefly!

DAISY: But first, we have to finish it.

We just need one more really amazing thing from nature.

Don't you worry, Squeeks.

We are surrounded by nature's splendor.

Nothing can stop us from finishing this book!

Stop!

Exactly why are we stopping?

Something's not right.

Hmmm.

Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm.

Oh, Squeeks. Relax.

Now what do you say we finish this book!

Whoa!

Look at those clouds.

Yes, yes, yes.

Lots of clouds, funny feelings.

Whoop-de-doo.

Now, let's get back to the task at hand

and find something amazing in nature!

Ooh.

Here we go.

Look at this pretty leaf!

Whoopsie! Ho-ho, ooh boy.

Heh, this wind, huh? Argh, come on, wind!

Wind!

Noooo!

(Thunder rumbling)

That sounded like...

It's thunder!

Uh-oh.

Those clouds look angry!

Yeah, those are storm clouds.

A thunderstorm is on its way.

(Thunder rumbling)

Guys, we'd better get inside if a thunderstorm is coming.

But we can't go inside now!

We have to see one last amazing thing so we can finish our book!

(Loud rumbling)

That thunder sounded louder.

The storm must be getting closer.

We have to get someplace safe!

I know! Let's hide under that tree.

Sorry, Hal.

The only safe place during a thunderstorm is inside.

But our book!

(Sobbing)

(Thunder rumbling)

Come on, we can go inside my doghouse!

Come on, Nature Cat!

We have to go.

I won't go.

Not until I finish this book.

Okay, sure, do what you gotta do,

but, um, you might get wet.

Wet? What'd you say about wet?

Sure.

Thunderstorms usually make lots of rain.

Water?

Like, from the sky?

Why does it always have to be water?

(Thunder rumbling)

Ahhhh!

Let's get out of here!

Incoming!

Huh?

Hal! Get out of the way!

We need to get inside!

You can come inside,

but please wipe your feet first.

I just vacuumed.

We're going to get wet out here, Hal.

Did you here what I said? Wet!

And I do not get wet!

Please let us in!

Thank you.

You may enter.

Welcome to my new and improved doggie house!

Ah, this carpet is so shaggy and luxurious.

Hal, I love what you've done to the place.

Cool lamp.

Why, thank you.

It's a lava lamp.

(Thunder rumbling)

Whoa!

Thunder!

(Sighing)

Now we'll never finish our Nature Book.

That was lightning.

One, two, three, four, five...

One mile.

One, two, three, four, five...

Two miles.

(Thunder rumbling)

The lightning is about two miles away.

You know how far away it is?

(Gasping)

Can you communicate with lightning?

Are you some sort of lightning wizard?!

Explain yourself, bunny!

Oh, okay, um, yeah.

So, you can tell how far away lightning is

by counting the seconds between the lightning flash

and the thunder.

Lightning is about a mile away for every five seconds.

One, two, three, four, five...

One mile!

One, two, three, four, five...

Two miles!

(Thunder rumbling)

I counted to five twice

so the lightning is still two miles away.

I wonder what makes that thunder so loud.

Gulp. Am I right?

Well, I can tell you that, Daisy!

It's quite simple, really.

Thunderstorms are created by cloud volcanoes

erupting in the sky,

sh**ting out icky, watery, wet raindrops.

Like this diagram here.

Um, that doesn't sound quite right.

Ooh! I can tell you!

I can tell you!

Thunder is simply caused by two giants

that are bowling on top of a cloud together.

Tah-dee.

Hmm, I don't think that's--

Don't be silly, Hal.

This is how thunder is made.

Thunder is caused by a thunderbird

flapping its big, huge, gigantic wings

through the sky!

Thunder!

Uh, maybe we should look this up.

NARRATOR: So you say you're stuck inside because there's a thunderstorm?

Well, there are a few things you should know to help you

enjoy one of nature's most impressive displays.

See those big, tall, cumulonimbus clouds?

Well, under the right conditions

and with enough moisture

they become amazing factories

that make thunder, rain and even bolts of electricity!

Whoa!

Look at that cloud grow!

Inside that cloud there are tiny ice crystals

and water droplets moving around

and bumping into each other,

building energy and making sparks.

It's a little like the sparks you feel

when you slide your feet across the carpet

on a very dry day and then touch a doorknob...

Youch!

But lightning is much more powerful!

When lightning flashes, it heats the air around it

to a really, really, really hot temperature.

And the heat's effect on the air

makes the very loud noise we call...

ALL: Thunder!

That's right, thunder!

What should we do?

So you want to know what to do during a thunderstorm, eh?

Hold on a second.

Can you hear us, Mr. Narrator?

Sure can, Nature Cat!

Once you're inside,

gather some things to help you enjoy the storm.

Make sure to stay away from doors, windows,

and all electronics.

Now shut off your phone and enjoy the storm!

Happy thunderstorm!

Phone is off!

Check!

(Gasping)

It's raining!

Whoa! Lightning!

One, two, three, four, five...

Thunder!

Oh! The lightning is getting closer.

It's only one mile away now.

We'd better get some supplies!

(Squeaking)

Ah, this is one spectacular pillow fort!

Not bad.

Not bad at all.

(Thunder rumbling)

One, t--

(Gasping)

That was really close!

There was almost no time between--

Did you hear that, Mr. Chewinsky?

The storm is here!

(Squeaking)

Aw, you don't have to be afraid.

We're inside, we aren't near any electronics

and we have lots of toys to play with

while we wait for it to pass.

We're going to be okay.

SQUEEKS: Ha, listen to the wind!

And the rain!

You know something,

I think I just might like

the sound of that icky, wicky, yucky, wet rain.

It's actually kind of soothing.

You've come a long way today, Nature Cat.

I really have, Daisy.

I really have.

I'm sort of amazing that way.

(Thunder) Ahhh!

Heh-heh.

I might not be afraid of the thunder,

it's just still quite surprising, is all.

Oh boy, am I glad we're inside!

(Thunder rumbling)

(All exclaiming)

Oh yeah! Oh yeah!

Thunderstorm! Oh yeah!

You know, I think I like thunderstorms.

Me too!

And guess what?

I have the last picture to complete our Nature Book.

DAISY: Here you go, Nature Cat.

This is definitely... a masterpiece.

Oh wow!

Cool!

Did you see that?

NATURE CAT: You really just never know when it's going to hit, do you?

(Birds squawking)
