talking about the laws of
reflection and refraction.

is all about how light hits an object.

In a way, you could say

everything we see is a reflection

because the reflection of light

is what enables us to
see everything around us.

But reflections aren't real though.

Oh, they're as real as
you and me. Maybe more so.

The ancient Mayans

and other Indigenous cultures believed

that reflections on water and in mirrors

were portals to other worlds.

Essential gateways
between humans and gods.

Wait, so mirrors can be
doors to other worlds?

MS. BROOKS: Well, the Mayans
didn't have many mirrors.

They did mine silver,

which is the most reflective metal,

but, with all due respect to the Mayans,

reflection is just the change

in direction of light waves when they

bounce off of a barrier, and they obey

- physical laws.
- (MIRROR CRACKING)
