Where is she? In there?

Is that my girl?

Is that my girl?

Lol?

Lol?

Lol, it's your dad. I'm here, girl.

Lol, it's your dad. I'm here, love.

Come with me, girl. You're all right.

You're all right, Lol.

You're safe, Lol.

You're safe, Lol, your dad's here.

Your dad's here, Lol!

Come on here now!

Now!

Home now!

Home now!

Lol!

I'd first of all just like to say, I really think I am ready for the outside world.

I know this might sound a bit daft, but I've never once considered prison as an opportunity.

You know, a chance to completely rehabilitate myself.

Prison was just another part of the fight for me.

You know, I blamed my crimes on the system.

A system I felt created me, to be brutally honest with you.

I never once felt remorse for the things I've done or took any of the help that was on offer for me.

And I know... I know this meeting is primarily about this case and this sentence, if you look at what I've achieved in here for the past four years, I hope you can see massive changes I've made to the way I was in the past.

You see, the past does matter.

It kind of shapes the future if we face it.

So, as well as doing all the things to tick the boxes in here, like me O levels and passing my joinery course, through working with Mary, the councillor here, I now know that the things that happened in my life, the things that hurt me, the things that broke me, I know how they affected me, so all I could do was hurt back.

But I didn't know any better then.

So, yeah, I feel shame and genuine remorse for the things I've done, for the things that I've done wrong in my life.

But I've learnt to accept myself as well.

You know, I feel regret, but I understand now why I did the things that I done and, as well as asking for forgiveness from the people I've hurt, I've also learnt to forgive the people that hurt me.

We all know I deserve to be in here, but I think I'm a better man for being in here this time, and, whether I get out in four days or four months or four years from now, I'm going to try to make amends for the things I've done.

I'm sure you've heard it all before.

I'm sure you've seen all this before but I hope you do believe me.

I'm not trying to say the right things to con anyone, I genuinely have been trying to do the right things for the past four years.

I just hope you can see that.

Thank you for seeing me today.

Thank you, Mr Gascoigne.

Kelly!

Yes, Chrissie!

Are you nearly ready?

Yeah.

You've got five minutes. Trev's here.

Lol's going to go ape if we're late.

Calm down, woman!

Menopause or what?

f*cking bitch!

Come on, then.

Cor, something smells nice.

Granny Woodford must be baking cakes.

You know Daddy likes cakes, don't you?

Uh-huh.

Ring the bell!

Go on, you ring it.

No!

All right, I'll ring it.

( Laughter inside )

Oh, here we go.

Who's that going to be? Hello, darling!

Oh, lovely Lisa! I love your jumper.

Hello, Jimmy-Jimmy joo-jar! Hello!

Nana's been doing some baking.

Do you want to bake a cake?

Oh, yeah, that's nice, in't it?

Yeah, I'll just be in my sl*ve quarters if you need me.

Just ring the bell.

Doing my thing for...

( Knock on door )

Who is that? Who is that? 11.15?

Are you having a giraffe?

What time have you told them?

I told them...

f*cking use a big Kn*fe. What sort of twat would be knocking on the door at this time?

Why are you taking the Kn*fe?

Argh!

You dickhead.

f*ck are you doing here at this time?

You said 12 o'clock.

Yeah, well, what's that saying there?

Oh, sh*t.

Oh, sh*t.

I'll nip back in 45 minutes, then.

It's fine, Shaun. Shaun, come in.

Are you sure?

Yeah.

I don't want you to be here.

Woody, let him in.

All right, come on. Get in.

You've got a grey hair in your beard, mate.

Yes, I know I have.

How are you?

Grey hair. It's like a cat's hair.

Nice to see you, pal.

You look good, dude.

Thank you, mate. So do you.

You all right, Shaun?

You all right, Lol? How are you?

Yeah, good. Are you?

Yeah, not bad, ta.

She won't go away.

How are you with sprouts?

( Footsteps )

At last.

You took your bloody time.

Yeah, well, it was worth it.

Right, what d'you think this is all about, then?

I think she's pregnant.

Really?

Yeah.

D'you think?

That's not news, is it?

Unless it's going to be a yellow one.

Oh, my God!

Do you not know?

She tells you everything.

You've got to have some clue what is going on.

Not hinted?

No. Nothing. I don't know. I know as much as you two.

Oh.

Honestly.

It's got to be summat big, they've never cooked dinner before, have they?

No, that's true.

Oh, I bet... I bet Woody's proposed.

It's a wedding.

It might be that, yeah.

Trev, we've got a wedding coming!

Five pound bets it's a wedding.

Didn't have you down to be a cook.

We've been slaving this morning, haven't we, love?

We have.

Roasties were good.

So, come on then... what are we all doing here? What's your big surprise?

Yeah, I've got a tenner on this and if I win, which I think I will, I'm taking you all to the pub.

Well, I ain't got a clue.

Good? Bad?

Bad, bad.

So..?

f*cking hell!

We got you-we brought you here... We didn't wanna.

Right, I'm gonna start and try my best to... tell you something that...

I'm sorry.

OK, now I'm worried.

I'm not...

I'm not sure how I'm gonna say this, so you're just gonna have to bear with me.

No, I'm not sure I can do it, Wood.

It's all right, take your time, we'll just sit here.

Lol, what's up?

I've lied about something.

Something really big.

Hmm?

But I did it for the right reasons.

I lied in court.

What?

About Dad.

You OK?

Yeah.

What do you know?

Trev knows I'm gonna say this.

Oh, God.

Come on. Come on.

Who else knew? And, sorry, who the f*ck are you?

Helen's here because Helen helped Lol through all that.

Oh, so you've had help?

She would've gone to jail if it wasn't for what Combo did.

She would've gone to jail, Kelly, and she wouldn't have had us to look after her.

And we didn't tell you because we didn't want this.

We didn't wanna hurt you, love. You were too young back then.

We didn't wanna-we didn't wanna cause any unnecessary damage.

We're telling you now because we have to.

Kelly... you deserve to know that he wasn't a good man, he was not a good man. He wasn't a good man to Mum, he wasn't a good man to me. He wasn't a good dad.

If he wasn't a good man, why would Mum have kids with him?

Well, because...

Why would you have kids with him if he was not a good man?

She got brainwashed, Kel, he was a f*cking vile, vile man, he was a r*pist.

He abused me for years, Kelly.

Oh, my God.

For years, and you know what?

Right, let me put it like this... I don't know if any of you know but Combo is coming out... and if he wasn't, I would never breathe a word of this, I would happily take it to my grave and I wouldn't put you through it, any of ya.

But he's coming out and I can't allow a man who's took time for me... to be put through something that he doesn't deserve to be put through.

Are you gonna have that? You're gonna have her talking about Dad like that? Is that what you're going to stand here and put up with?

You don't know...

There's no easy way of doing it.

Why doesn't she believe it?

Why have you not tried to explain to her, Mum?

Why are you not backing me?

But you... Mum, you know!

I know.

Mum, I swear to God, if you don't shut the f*ck up, saying stuff like that about my dad, I swear I'll have nothing to do with all of ya!

Listen to what you are saying.

I don't know that happened.

I don't know that.

It happened.

Why was you there?

Why would I lie to you? I f*cking love you!

You're my sister. Do you know why he didn't do it? Because he loved you.

Oh, he loved her more.

No, he f*cking.... I'm telling you now, he f*cking loved you.

He never f*cking touched you.

He loved you more, didn't he?

Listen to what you're f*cking saying, Kelly.

How can you stand at the table and f*cking...

Kelly!

Kelly, stop.

How can you stand there..?

Stop, stop.

Trev.

Stop. Come here, sit there.

Sit down for minute, sit down for just a minute, get all this out...

I actually feel like I can't stay in this room.

I know, I know, I know, I know it's awful, I know it's awful.

I know.

Mum, you have to talk, you have to open your mouth.

Listen to your mum, Kelly. Listen to Mum.

I don't know how you can stand here and sit and say that about him.

You have to listen to her, because she was with him.

You have to listen.

Kelly, love.

Mum, I'm not having it. There's no point telling me.

There's no point telling me.

Please, listen to me.

They're not making it up, they're not making it up, love.

I'm sorry, I wish it could be different but they're not making it up.

So why did you call her poison then?

Cos I'm a f*cking coward.

I'm a f*cking coward and I'm sorry, but it's right, I saw what he was doing and I didn't f*cking stop him because I was scared of him.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry.

Don't touch me.

Please, Kelly, love, please.

It's for your own good.

Please.

Enjoy it.

It's a lot for her to take in.

It's a lot for her to take in, just now. Give her time.

Just give her time.

I'm so sorry.

Believe me, I really am.

You all right, Milk?

How have you f*cking lived with this for so long, and not said anything?

He has to come. He has to stay here, there's nowhere else to go.

Whoa, hold on a second, what the f*ck are you on about?

There's nowhere else for him to be.

Man, without him we wouldn't have any of this.

I forgave you, I forgave you and you've gotta try and find a way to forgive him, man, I know it's not easy.

I'm... It's not easy.

So, hold on a second, are you trying to tell me that he's...

He's f*cking coming out of prison and coming in here?

Yeah, but do you know what, Milky, people change.

People change, you've f*cking changed, we've all changed.

I don't want to hear that people f*cking change!

We all change. She'll f*cking change. One day she'll see sense.

Talk to me about forgiveness.

It's not about us, man, it's about our children, it's not about us.

See past it, mate, you've gotta see past it, man.

I'm sorry, man, I'm sorry.

I know how-I know, man, how angry you are. I can feel it on you, dude.

You f*cking don't know!

All right, all right.

Then where else do I put him?

Where else do I put him? Milk, I could be in prison.

But it's about these three.

Listen, I can't deal with this right now, I swear to God. Trev, I will f*cking be there for you, whatever you f*cking need.

Kelly, all of you, I f*cking love the lot of you but there's one thing I'm not f*cking having, is him living in the same house as my f*cking kid.

I can't even believe you f*cking think I'm... I'd live with this.

She's my kid too.

She's my kid too.

He's f*cking changed, he's a good man.

Oh!

He has!

He has, Milk, I know it's hard to accept.

I know it is, man.

Listen, it's forgiveness, it's f*cking underrated mate, it is.

Without forgiveness, we wouldn't even be here having this chat, would we?

We wouldn't be here doing this.

Would we, man?

Please, Milk, try and see past how angry you are.

What he did to you was awful, it's unforgiveable, what Combo did to you, man.

I'll never forgive him for that, there's no way.

You've hit the nail on the head there, mate.

You've hit the f*cking nail on the head, it's un-f*cking-forgivable!

He's a f*cking r*cist f*cking bastard.

So what do I do, Milk. What do I do?

No, man.

Just let me f*cking finish.

What do I do?

He's a r*cist f*cking c**t and you think he's gonna f*cking...

He's gonna have anything to do with a f*cking... My f*cking black child!

Oh, man, listen to me, listen to me.

We'll fix this, we've fixed it before, we'll fix it again, but look at me, I love ya.

I know she is.

All right.

All right, I'll see you in a bit.

Drive safe.

I will.

Don't drive angry. I love you.

Love ya.

I feel a bit nervous, Shaun?

Why?

We used to travel all over with them lot.

You used to love it, we went to erm...

Love it? Where did we go?

Sort of!

You used to run away from her when she tried to kiss ya.

She wouldn't try that now, she'd regret it, wouldn't she?

With your little trunks on.

I remember being by... I think it was at the swimming baths, you had a little pair of blue and white striped trunks.

And then Belfast, I never much liked that.

Then I fell into labour in Glasgow.

What? With me?

How many other bloody kiddies do think I've got?

Yeah you, you daft apeth.

So, I was born in Scotland?

Why are you having a mardy about that?

You never thought to tell me? That I'm Scottish.

Why does it matter?

What do you mean, why does it matter?

Because I'm not even English.

Course you are!

Me and your dad are bloody English, just a bit exotic, in't it?

It's not exotic, it's horrible.

I thought people from Scotland hated the English.

Well, they have got a bit of a chip on their shoulders, as well.

So it never crossed your mind to tell me that I'm Scottish?

It never really came up.

Oh, Shaun, have you done your homework? You're Scottish.

So, are you going to tell us what all this is about or...?

It's just been... one of them weeks, Gadg.

It's been more than one of them f*cking weeks, Kel, you've got a bag full of your clothes there, love.

What's up with ya?

Why don't you ask the three musker-f*cking-teers.

What are you on about Three Musketeers?

Have you fell out with your mum again?

My mum don't give a sh*t, Gadg.

Kelly.

I've been away for a f*cking week.

Course she gives a sh*t.

Has she rang? Has she rang here?

No, no, she's not rang but...

Exactly.

Kelly, that's your mum.

Oi, she loves ya.

She loves Lol more.

Oh, for God... She loves you both. You're both her daughters, Kel.

I tell you what, Trev's a lying c**t an'all.

What you on about, Trev?

Kelly, you're f*cking scaring me now, love.

Sorry.

Don't f*cking say sorry.

Just tell me what's up, mate! Please.

( Music plays )

Aww, it's lovely to see you all.

Good to see you too.

Cheers!

Cheers!

And to Rob.

To Rob, cheers, To old friends, cheers!

Here you go, young man.

Cheers. Yeah, don't leave it so long next time.

No, I know, I know, it's er...

Yeah, we should've come, really, but, you know, it's just not seemed right, really, without Rob, so...

But, anyway, it's good to be here now.

Yeah.

I wanted him to see where his dad's from, you know, and see you all again.

Last time he saw you, he was only a little one, weren't he?

I'm only little now, aren't I, Mum?

Stand up, let's have a look at you.

Come on.

He's not too big for a smacked arse.

What regiment would he be in. The Airfix regiment?

Willy Wonker's regiment.

Hey, he's going nowhere.

Do you want another one?

Hello, Gary!

That's a lot of shopping for us two that live here solely by ourselves.

Don't start, mate.

Why is she here, mate?

Don't start, Harv!

I'm not starting, I'm asking you a question, boss.

She's staying here for a bit.

This is my flat, mate. This is where, where I live.

I think I was kind enough to have you in here, mate, but, er...

If we're going to bring Kelly in here and I don't know why the f*ck she's here!

She's had a fall out with... with her with her mum and that.

Right?

So she's...

So she's staying here for a bit! Yeah?

Right! She has a lot of fall outs with her mother!

It's different this time, mate.

OK, can you remember the time that her father was brutally m*rder*d?

Harvey. Shut up, man.

She wasn't f*cking here then, was she?

Shut the f*ck up, mate, you can't say sh*t like that.

It's my gaff, mate. I want to know why the f*ck she's here.

I can't... I can't tell ya!

You can!

I can't tell you, Harv.

You can.

I promised Kelly I wouldn't!

Well, I don't give a f*ck, mate!

This is my gaff, you need to f*cking tell me!

If she's staying here, I need to know why!

It's about what you were talking about.

You know that Combo's banged up.

Mmm.

It weren't him who did it!

He just... took... took blame for someone else.

For who?

Lol.

But it were, it were...

Mate, he took the wrap for Lo... Lol.

Kelly didn't go into detail but she knew it wasn't a fight, she was going there... for that.

f*cking hell, man.

She m*rder*d their dad, mate.

I can't let her go back there, Harv.

No, man.

She's not going f*cking back there, Harv.

She's not. She'll just stay here.

I just... I just... I can't help her. I don't know how... how to.

( Music plays )

Now take you bottom half off.

Go over there and show me, bend over, put your hands on the bench.

OK, if you want to take the rest of your clothes off for me.

Other clothes have been sent for you.

You can put those on.

Statue of our lady.

Yeah.

£1.36 in change.

Thank you.

OK.

If you'd like to sign for those items.

Yeah, sure.

Can you open up?

This is us.

OK.

( Door opens and closes )

( Muffled voices )

( Door opens )

How are you?

( He sobs )

( He sobs )

You're all right. It's all right.

( They sob )

You get tucked in and I'll get the teddies in the good places.

This one here.

Yeah. What about this one?

Oh, he don't... He don't look very well, does he? He's got an injury.

Move him.

I know. He looks like road k*ll. We'll leave him just there.

Where's that one going?

Next to this one.

OK.

All in a row.

This is turning into a good sleepover.

And then put that one just there.

Ah!

Cor, this is fun!

Put this one...

Any more? What about this one? He looks cute.

Yeah.

Can I have that one?

No!

Oh, go on, then. Can I have this one, then?

Yeah.

Go on, then.

( TV plays )

I can't believe you've cleaned the flat.

It needed it!

How's your yolk? Is it runny enough?

Yours is.

I know. I like it runny. I can dip my chips in it then.

Like that.

Shut the f*ck up a minute! Quiet! Quiet, please!

HE WHISPERS: (Can't talk while he's watching this sh*t!)

(Like a 55-year-old f*cking woman!)

You look bloody old.

Woody!

Thanks(!)

( Woody laughs )

You look like David Bellamy.

Cheeky bastard!

MIMICS BELLAMY: Really, really undergrowth!

Oh sh*t.

Thank you both so much.

Thank you.

No. Thank you.

Little Lisa?

She's with her dad.

Yeah?

Yeah.

It's his weekend.

Well, she's... She's due a bit of time with her dad so...

We're going to just...

Look if there's any problems, you know, if there's any hassle...

There's no problems.

No, no, no.

Stop, stop, stop.

Listen.

She needed to spend a bit of time with her dad and that's what she's doing.

So, you know, for the first couple of weeks, you've got your own room, you can have a bit of space, sort yourself out. It's been agreed. It's fine.

It's worked out great.

Are you sure?

This is home. OK? No, I mean that.

While you are here, it always will be!

Thank you.

Thank you.

Oh, it's bloody freezing.

Oh, you know what I was thinking this year?

What?

Christmas dinner.

Yeah?

Instead of me cooking and doing all the bloody washing up and everything...

Yeah.

.. I was going to get Sanders to take us out for a nice dinner.

What do you think?

It'll be nice, but your cooking's loads nicer.

Ah, Shaun, you know how to flatter your mother.

( They laugh )

Fancy a bit of chippie to be honest.

I can't believe that bloke in the middle of the road wouldn't move.

I know!

All right?

Hi.

Hello, darling.

Hi, love.

How are you?

Good. How was your day?

It was lovely.

We had a really nice time.

Yeah, it was. It was good fun, yeah.

Me and Lardy here had a laugh.

Yeah, it was fun.

So good in fact I've found out I'm Scottish.

Oh, don't. Give over!

What?

I'm Scottish!

MIMICS SCOTTISH ACCENT: Look at you, Jimmy!

Don't ask!

It probably explains why I'm ginger.

Yeah, probably.

( They laugh )

Hey, look. There's something here for you.

What's that?

It's got the college mark on it?

Let's have a look!

Bloody hell!

Come on.

Oh, you don't think they'll have reconsidered?

No, no.

They might have done. Get it open.

They've probably just resent a rejection letter by accident.

Come on, Shaun, open it! Let's have a look.

Come on!

I'd just rather leave it.

Shaun!

Don't do that! Bloody hell, I won't be able to sleep.

Get it open. Jesus!

Yeah!

"Dear Shaun, due to a student withdrawing from our first year photography diploma course we are pleased to inform you that your application has been reconsidered and we can now offer you a place here at the Technical College."

Whoo!

Wahey!

Hey-hey-hey!

Give me five!

Oh, love, I'm so happy for you.

Come here, sweet.

I'm chuffed to bloody bits.

Jesus, that's the best news we've had all day.

I know!

Shaun! Oh, love, I'm so happy for you.

Good on you, lad.

Oh... Exhausted.

Christ, I love you, you know.

I love you too.

More than you'll ever know. More than you will ever know.

Lol?

Mmm?

Is this a trick?

Give me this finger here.

What are you doing?

Come on, give me your finger!

Just hold your hand out like that.

Woody, what is this?

Hold your hand out. Trust me.

Woody! Woody!

Woods!

What?

Where's your towels?

In the... In the cupboard behind the bath.

Nice one.

( He chuckles )

(What's going on?)

(I want you to marry me.)

(Shut up, Woody.)

I want you to marry me, please.

Oh, Woody.

Marry me.

Course I will.

Oh, Woody.

Oh, my God.

Are you being serious?

Yeah.

I never know with you.

No, of course I'm being serious. We're going to do it this time.

Really?

Yeah. Oh, Christ.

What's going on?

( He exhales )

Combo's back and were getting married. That's what's going on.

Looks good on you!

Oh, Woody!

( He clears throat )

Yeah, are you all right? It's me.

No, we're not doing it tonight.

No, I'm not backing out.

They agreed and she's here with me.

She's safe.

Yeah, I've just put her to bed. She's upstairs.

I don't want it happening tonight, but trust me it will happen.

( Muffled voice on other end of line )

I understand. But like I say, just wait until I say.

Yeah, I love you too.

Love you, bye.

Bye.
