[VIOLET] Previously on Queen Sugar...

[MICAH] I want to create
something for us

in web definitively black.

I'm gonna really need to delve
into your creative portfolio.

I'm ready for that.

Aunt Martha crossed over last month.

[NOVA] I should have been more in tune

with everything on my
mother's side of the family.

I've been on an island loving you.

- And you've been struggling to love me.
- Dominic.

I don't want him being surprised
if he finds out about Chase.

This is so unnecessary.

- Where is this coming from?
- It's coming from my gut!

Should we think about fostering again?

[HOPEFUL MUSIC PLAYING]

Is all this really necessary?

I mean, it hasn't changed
since you were here last.

Standard practice.

I have to make sure
everything's in order

before we assign you a child.

Oh, sorry. [LAUGHS NERVOUSLY]

[HUMS]

- [HUSHED WHISPERS]
- Oh, no worries

about the Sherry laying around anymore.

We... we took the notes
that you gave us the last time.

We just kicked it up. [CHUCKLES]

Uh, well you can see that we
just put in one bed this time.

But we saved the other one

in case another child needs us.

And um, we... We're gonna paint.

Look, I know y'all are good people.

I saw how you took care
of the Avila boys.

But you won't know the kid this time

and there is a process.

Look miss Carmichael, we respect that.

But this right here.

This is the most important
thing to us right now.

Okay, I'm approving you.

You are now officially on the roster

as permanent foster parents
in the state of Louisiana.

I'll turn in my report and you'll
be notified about assignments.

Could be as early as hours

for as long as days or more.

So be patient,

but be ready.

Okay, now do you know
if we'll get a girl or a boy?

[CHUCKLES] I won't know
until there's a need.

You know, it doesn't even matter.

We'll be happy with
whoever you bring over here.

Absolutely.

Well, good luck.

Alright. Well, thank you so much.

Congrats.

Congratulations, Hollywood.

- [CRYING]
- [INHALES] Oh, baby, baby.

- [EXHALES]
- But Hollywood...

We could be parents within hours.

Lord, are we ready?

I mean, I thought that we
would have more time to prepare.

Sha, sha...

Baby, we've been wanting this
for a long time.

If we ain't ready, we gonna get ready.

- [LAUGHS]
- We gonna get ready.

- [BOTH LAUGHING]
- We gonna get ready.

[DOMINIC] Morning.

It's Ginger turmeric.

Thank you.

Really should eat something.

I got some croissants.

Maybe later when Ra gets here.

I'm...

I'm sorry about your aunt Martha.

I can't believe she's gone.

I just wish I had more time with her.

There was so much more that
I wanted to talk with her about.

Learn from her.

Well, she's still here.

In your heart, in your blood.

I have put that part of me
on hold for so long.

It gets harder to hear it, feel it.

I need to spend time out there
and listening.

For her and...

- And for my mother.
- You should do that.

And you don't need to host today.

They're my friends.
I can find another place.

[GIGGLING] I'm not missing that.

I want to meet all your people.

I do have good lawyers

'cause honestly when I read it,

it just all reads
like a foreign language.

[CHUCKLES] Now, the fun part.

We get to taste your recipes.

The lab team has worked hard

to duplicate the recipes you gave us,

but we can't finalize anything

until we get your approval.

Here's a sneak peek.

[EXHALES] Alright.

Oh, baby.

It's missing the cinnamon.

There was no cinnamon
in the recipe last...

I told those people.
I don't follow no recipe.

It's... it's all in my head
and in my hand.

I taste as I go.

Um, to mass produce,
we'll just need to get all that

out of your head
and into a written recipe.

But it's okay. We'll get there.

It's just a process.

But first...

These are the proposed pie boxes.

And we plan to place them
at the end of the isle

for maximum visibility.

[BREATH TREMBLING]

Aren't they great?

They're very nice.

[SIGHS] Very nice indeed.

Okay, well don't forget what
I said about the cinnamon.

I can't be out there not looking right.

I mean, after all...

My face is on these boxes.

- [BOTH LAUGHING]
- It sure is.

This is all that's left
of momma's legacy.

Momma spent so much time there.

There's so much about her
that we don't know.

I found this in aunt Martha's book.

The green lines represent all her land.

She left to a praise house close by.

I mean, I know you didn't have
much time with her,

but to me, she was as real
and present as daddy was.

Some things.

Not enough.

- Thank you.
- Thanks.

[SIGHS]

I wish these walls could talk.

[CHUCKLES] For real.

Looking at this,

I realize I spent a lot of time

living up to his expectations.

I lost track of hers.

How could I let this happen?

[RALPH] Pops had that effect on us.

It felt like it was a struggle trying to

be who I want to be
and be who he wanted me to be.

[CHUCKLES]

I guess Charley figured it out.

She about the only one who
got it together in his head.

Mmm, I don't know about that.

I think she disappointed him
less than we did

because she wasn't here to mess up.

Yeah, well I don't want to
be like that with my kids.

Making them feel like
they can't make mistakes,

be human.

Well, you have to remember he tried.

And you know, after she d*ed,
he was left with two kids,

a struggling farm and a broken heart.

He was just surviving.

[HOLLYWOOD] See you all at the debate.
I need your support. Be there.

I hope to see you all at the debate.

Need your support.

- Those kids need us more now

than ever before.

So you not only got dads on patrol,

but you're running for school board too?

Sure am. Whatever it takes, man.

These schools need some fixing up.

you have to debate that sucker.

I mean, you can't reason

But it's a part of the election process.

And the school board's got

then I won't have to do dads on patrol.

I can be able to affect change
from the inside.

wish that on my worst enemy.

All that land.

[BILLIE] Most of it's stolen
from black farmers.

It's the only piece that matters to me.

Might as well just auction off my daddy.

Look, we have Nova's advance money

and everyone in the co-op
is willing to pitch in.

Same as they did for Parthena.

Yeah, well, all our money
together couldn't help out Parthena.

She got less land than Landry got.

Look, all these companies and people,

they coming out the wood
works for this property.

Uh, I don't wanna cause
an alarm, but I just heard

from Hugh over at the hardware store.

Sam's not going down without a fight.

Now he's calling in old favors

and his friends are talking
about showing up at the auction.

Win or lose, we have to try.

All his friends got deep pockets.

They have deep pockets but I
know folks here with bigger hearts.

But hey, y'all. Listen up.

Now, y'all seen the news,
you know what's going on.

All right? Now we have to band
together to help Ralph Angel.

- [WOMAN] Mmm-hmm.
- [PROSPER] He and his family, they've come through for us.

Now it's time for us
to come through for them.

All right, now they're gonna
auction off his land in two days.

So, every little bit helps.

Okay? Please.

[INDISTINCT MURMURING]

If it comes down to a fight,
we're right there with you.

Thank you, Mr. Prosper.

Like you always told me,
one step at a time.

So, you know, I was in New York

and I met with an investor,
grandma knows her,

but this is not about her.

I just...

[CHARLEY] What's going on, Micah?

Mom, I got a job offer
while I was in New York.

- So, plan is to drop out of Xavier...
- [CHARLEY] What?

...and start a new chapter there.

[CHARLEY SIGHS] Micah,
you're starting to make

choices that you'll have to
live with for the rest of your life.

Are you, are you even thinking

- about that?
- Mom, mom, mom.

You don't get it.

I have never felt more sure
about anything, ever.

[CHARLEY] I don't know what to say.

This is the part where you say,
"congratulations, Micah."

"I knew you could do it."

[CHARLEY] I just don't know anymore.

I just thought you'd be happy for me.

Everyone else is.

This is a great opportunity
for me to explore,

to move forward in my life.

[CHARLEY] Think about your future.

You could have talked
to us first before you went...

I'm not asking for your permission.

I'm an adult.

You just insist on
treating me like a kid.

[CHARLEY] Then stop acting like one!

I'm not act... you're not
even listening to me.

Like, I'm not going to
New York to just live there.

This is exactly what I've been
working for.

This is exactly what I wanna
do with the rest of my life.

Make art, make community.

Have a job, I'm gonna have
access to so many people

who actually see me for who I am.

I have to be there.

[CHARLEY] Well, we'll talk
more later. I gotta go, bye.

Now, this room is better, right?

I mean, it's closer. That way,
if they need us, we can hear 'em.

And I tell you, baby, this,
this electric Violet,

it's the right choice,
baby, you nailed it.

You think they'll like it?

We can always repaint.

I thought we would have
gotten the call by now.

Do you think that there's a problem?

I think our baby will
come right on time.

I don't know.

[SIGHS]

I mean, maybe our time has passed.

You know?

Maybe this, this isn't
the right thing to do.

I am not a young woman.

You, Violet Bordelon, are timeless.

- I'm serious.
- And so am I.

You can imagine me, a baby and me?

With parents that
are barely Micah's age?

I could see any child
being lucky calling you mama.

Do you think belinda
has changed her mind?

Just need to be patient, baby.

Just a little bit.

[NOVA GASPS] Miss Pearl.

[PEARL] So pleased that you came back.

Say prayers for miss Martha's journey.

She was a good woman.

She deserves this.

Ladies, shall we begin?

- Yes.
- [WOMAN MURMURING]

We ask in the name of our
beloved Martha Lavoisier.

That as her soul
separates from her body,

she be granted peace.

May her homegoing path be clear

and her journey be filled
with euphoric Joy.

May our hearts be strengthened.

We know and believe
that while absent in mind,

she is present in spirit

and in spirit she is mighty.
