Anne and Lexie are being held in an Espheni outpost.

Are you going after them?

I am.

Narrator: Previously on Falling Skies...

You m*rder*d them?

You left me no choice.

I'm gonna k*ll you.

The defense grid goes operational in a matter of minutes, Tom.

Once it's up, you've lost.

If the grid is not destroyed, life on this planet will cease to exist.

Which tower you plan to att*ck with the Volm.

Tell me the plan.

We still have a traitor roaming the streets of Charleston.

The Volm plan to move their w*apon out of the complex this afternoon.

Project Orange gets under way tomorrow morning at dawn.

What's our target?

We won't know until we go.

"We" won't know, or you're not telling me?

It's standard m*llitary procedure.

You evaluate your target options till the last minute.

And then you go with the best one.

We've got all our eggs in this basket, Dan.

What if this w*apon doesn't work?

Or what if it does?

How do we know the Volm won't turn it on us after they've used it against the Espheni?

We don't. And you're okay with that?

Madam President, you've seen those streaks in the sky.

The enemy defense grid is already online.

Every day we wait...

If we don't knock out that grid, we're gonna be dead in three months.

The human race will cease to exist.

Will the Volm w*apon work? I don't know.

Will they end up being the friends we need them to be? I don't know.

All I know is that w*apon represents our only chance to win this w*r.

If it works.

I'll wait to cry until it doesn't.

Meantime, my job is to get these people ready for battle.

Very good.

Madam President.

[ Sighs ]

[ Indistinct conversations ]

Bro, you're gonna want to see this.

I've seen the grid, Lyle.

The Espheni have an extraordinary visual palette.

Too bad they're irradiating us.

Well, it's not the grid.

We have a visitor.

[ Sighs ]

Well, well, well. The prodigal son returns.

Thought you were dead.

I'm not that easy to k*ll.

You still owe me a plane.

You can have the boat.

So, where you been?

Gone. I'm back now.

Man: Tom, you're back.

It's Tom Mason. Woman: Tom's back.

Dan.

It's Tom Mason.

[ Indistinct conversations ]

I heard you came strolling in.

Good to see you.

We need to talk.

And I'll bet you have a good story to tell.

I got a story. Ben: Dad.

It's not good. Hal: Dad.

Ben. Hal.

You're not hurt? No.

It's about time.

[ Chuckles ]

Just give me a second, Dan.

Take as much time as you need. We'll talk later.

We waited for you at Mechanicsville.

You never showed.

The Skitters were there at the Picketts' farm when I went back.

What happened to the Picketts?

I don't know. They were gone.

How come they didn't k*ll you?

That wasn't part of the plan.

They put me on a ship and flew me to a tower.

Karen.

She's running the w*r from there.

Is that where she took Anne and Lexie?

Yes.

Did you see them? Are they with you?

No.

They're okay, right?

No.

They're not okay.

There's nothing left.

Hey. There's us.

We're left.

Dad, you know this for certain about Anne and Lexie? Yes.

Look. Listen to me.

I want you to take the pain that you're feeling right now, and I want you to use it.

We're gonna go after Karen.

We'll grieve for Anne and Lexie when she's dead.

When we get there, I hope you let me do the honors.

That's good. Use that.

That'll see you through.

I got to go talk to Colonel Weaver.

Dad, what are you saying?

You told me that if all we had left was hate, they'd already changed us.

I know, Ben, but that was a long time ago.

Right now, all I've got is hate, and I don't plan on wasting it.

We never even considered Boston a target, Tom.

We move out tomorrow -hanging our plans now would put us behind the eight ball.

I understand your concerns, Dan, but until Karen took me there, we didn't know she was headquartered in Boston.

But we take out the Boston tower, we knock out the grid, and we get Karen.

That tower's pretty well defended. It's surrounded by Mechs.

There's a lot less resistance at our current target.

But we don't get Karen.

We don't need to get Karen to accomplish this objective.

Gents, I damn near met my maker trying to take that tower once.

The thought of having a second sh*t at it sort of makes me think it's not such a bad idea.

A day and a half to get there, at least.

And we're gonna need a lot more firepower to take on those Mechs. See, I don't think so.

Since we took out the Wakonda reactor, the Espheni are short on fuel.

When I made my escape, I saw their defenses.

Those Mechs are mostly inoperable.

They're just standing there like the Emperor's Terracotta army.

You know, I see the tactical advantages.

We know that Karen controls the Espheni defenses up and down the eastern seaboard.

We take her out. We cut the head off the snake.

See, that's right. That's exactly right.

Tempting proposition, Tom, but...

I need a little time to think about it.

Whatever the target is, I'd like to come along...

[ Clears throat ]

...Dan, if you'll have me.

There's nothing I'd like more, Tom.

You're worried. Okay. I-I understand that.

Let's lay our cards on the table.

For all you know, Karen put a bug in me.

She did it to you before.

And I knew something was wrong, and I told you that straight up.

This is different.

After what happened with Hal, we can't take any chances.

Well, just keep your eye on me.

You know, if I do anything even slightly abnormal, put a b*llet in my head.

Tom, I don't want to.

What we want and what we need are two different things!

We need to take out the grid, and I need to get Karen!

For Anne and for Lexie, please!

And if I have to take a b*llet, I would rather it came from -hat's enough.

Now, Tom, thanks for the updated intelligence, but you need to get some rest.

You're dismissed.

Yes, sir.

[ Door opens, closes ]

I think he's telling the truth.

Dan, you guys have been close, but you need to take a step back here.

He's volatile.

Why wouldn't he be?

Karen k*lled Anne and his little girl.

I'd be pretty damn volatile myself.

I think you are, Colonel Weaver.

Point taken.

But...if he does have an implant, there's no way we're going to find it, but if he doesn't and he's telling us the truth...

Then he handed us the key to victory.

Now, go on, Dan. Let me chew on this for a while.

Yes, sir.

I'm very happy you have returned to us, my friend.

I saw your plane go down.

I didn't think I was ever gonna see you again.

It grants us favor when we least expect it and deals us blows when we are least prepared for them.

I am terribly sorry about Anne and your daughter.

Thank you.

Yeah, I can't really think about that right now.

Best to keep moving forward.

I tried to tell myself the same thing when my brother was k*lled.

But the thoughts came anyway.

That is the most difficult thing about w*r.

It snatches up our loved ones. It swallows them whole.

And we never have an opportunity to bid them farewell.

That's true.

The last time I saw my brother, we quarreled about a trivial matter.

Had he lived, I'm sure we would have resolved it, but the fact that we didn't continues to haunt me.

I used to think that love gave me an edge.

Maybe it's just an impediment that clouds our thinking.

What, then, is the alternative?

Not to love, so we never have to grieve?

And if you recover it, have they picked a target?

Has there been a change of plans?

Is it policy now that my m*llitary commanders convene a meeting, and I'm not involved? General Porter's keeping it close to the vest because there's another mole on the loose.

Madam President, if it makes you feel any better, I don't know if there's been a change of plans.

Okay. Ohh.

Right here.

Let's get back at it, people.

Here.

Thanks.

What did you hear?

I don't know. I can't tell if it's people.

The sound bounces around a lot down there.

Well, that you can hear through 40 feet of rock is miracle enough.

Dig some, listen some, never give up.

Never give up.

Colonel, Matt had an idea of how we can get a better picture of what's going on below.

Speak up, son. Well, I thought that maybe if we went through the storm drains, then Ben could hear better.

Good idea. Make it happen.

Okay. Come on. Okay.

Pope, I've never seen your crew work so hard.

Colonel, if we don't get this Volm show on the road, we're all gonna be maggot meat in three months.

[ Grunts ]

What did the, uh, spikeboy say?

Probably more survivors down there.

Most likely, it's the cafeteria.

Well, that's good, right? That's where they all congregate.

Listen. If it held up, I'm sure your daughter -he's down there with that bunch.

Look -- easy, all right.

We don't need to borrow any trouble.

Now, if the kid's right, we are 20 feet away from that northern stairwell, all right?

And if that's clear, then it's straight down -traight sh*t, 30 feet.

Right? Right.

Let's keep digging!

We got people down there counting on us.

Come on!

Tom: Watch your head. Marina: Mm-hmm.

[ Groans ]

There's two more.

We might have lost hundreds.

[ Sighs ]

Here. Hold this light.

Right here. What? What is it?

It's Lourdes.

She's still alive. Thank God.

How bad is it? I don't know.

We don't have far to go, though.

[ Grunts ]

Follow me.

Put him on that gurney. Okay, let's take a look.

I got two more for you, Doc.

Dr. Delgado. There.

[ Grunts ]

It's not serious. She can wait.

Afraid you're gonna need some stitches, Madam President.

I-I can't see. Everything's blurry.

Please sit down. Okay.

Right here. Tom.

Damn, man, you're a sight for sore eyes.

Have you seen my father? I think he was up top.

Jeanne, don't worry. Your dad's a survivor.

Wherever he is, he's just as worried about you.

Keep your head. We'll get out of this.

What's the situation?

The floor plan.

All these main exits -otally blocked with rubble.

We can't get through.

Now, I've sent people to take a look at the elevator shafts here, here, and here.

What about these north exits?

I haven't had the people to get over there, Tom.

Well, we could do that.

Find me a w*apon, would you?

Yeah.
How is she?

Probable concussion.

What about Lourdes? Same.

All we can do is monitor her till she wakes up.

Go. Go. Okay.

Here.

Thanks.

You okay?

Hmm. When I was a kid, my brother used to lock me in a dark closet for hours.

Since then, I've always hated tight places.

I'll feel a hell of a lot better when we can see the sky again.

Son of a bitch!

[ Sighs ]

Tom. Wait, Tom. That's not gonna help, man.

We're not letting it stop us.

Look, well, it has, okay?

You're gonna need a forklift to clear this out.

[ Sighs ]

There's got to be another way.

Porter checked every passage we could.

I say we sit tight, man.

Folks up top, they're probably digging their way to us as we speak.

No, no, no, no. We can't wait.

Actually, I have half a dozen packs of C4.

It'll have to do.

Blasting caps? No.

Those are in the armory, and we're cut off from that level.

[ Sighs ] All right.

I'll need about 200 feet of wire.

Zip cord will work.

Where the hell am I supposed to get that?

This is a mall. It has electrical wiring.

Most of that wiring is inside the walls and no longer working, and the walls are made of --

[ Laughs ]

Peanut butter?

I'm starving.

I don't want you leaving that bed.

Don't worry. We've got it covered. He's right.

You should get some rest.

That -- that's okay.

I-I can't help feeling that it's my fault somehow.

Is that a problem?

It depends on whether its load-bearing capacity's been compromised.

Our expl*si*n could punch right through to the stairwell or it could collapse the ceiling and bury the hall in rubble.

We'll need to rethink this, perhaps find another location.

Great. We're right back where we started.

What did you just say?

No, I -t was just a med pack, Tom.

You're acting crazy. Am I?

You said it was sad that Anne d*ed back where she started.

Yes, it was the thought of her --

You meant Boston. Of course. I was just --

I told Porter and I told Weaver where she d*ed!

I didn't tell anybody else. How did you know?

I just a-assumed --

Why weren't you in the infirmary when the blast went off?

Were you trying to get out after you planted the b*mb?

No! I was -- n-no. What --

Tom, you're frightening me.

What were you doing in Cochise's room when I explicitly said that everybody should stay out?!

He's a patient! I'm a doctor!

Then show me what's in that pack!

Don't you see what the mole is doing to us?

You're the mole!

I asked you to keep an eye on Anne and Lexie, and you delivered them right to Karen!

[ Warbling ]

Ben: Okay.

[ Sighs ]

I thought I'd hear more down here, but I'm getting nothing.

I'm worried.

So am I. They -hey could all be dead.

Maybe that wouldn't be so bad.

What do you mean?

Dad's lost it. I don't know what Karen did to him.

But she did something. It changed him.

If they did that to you, you'd change, too.

Hey, wait, wait.

What? Shh.

I don't want dad to die down here.

I don't want Hal and Maggie to die down here -ot like this.

You're the only one she can't k*ll.

You realize that?

I can die, too, Matt.

I can die just like you, like anybody.

No.

Whatever happens, you'll be there to see it.

No matter what.

Well, if you're not there, I don't want to be there.

It's not up to you.

[ Pipe clangs ]

[ Sighs ]

Do you think there's anything after?

Like angels and heaven?

I hope not.

'Cause I know where I'd be going.

Wherever you go...

I'll find you.

Matt: A pipe.

[ Clanging ]

What's that?

[ Clangs ]

Hey!

We're up here! It's Hal!

Hal! We can hear you! We're down here!

We're gonna get help! Okay?!

You stay. I'll go get Weaver, get a crew down here.

We're almost out of air!

Ben: Just open the pipe!

Okay? The pipe!

I can't!

Hey, Ben, we're okay.

We got the pipe open, Ben.

Okay, just -- just -ust hang in there! We're coming!

We're gonna get help for you! Don't worry! Don't worry.

Jeanne: I can't believe it's her.

She helped take the harness off of Diego, patched me up.

She saved my life, too. Nobody suspected.

Should have. How, Tom?

She gave no indication she had a bug.

I don't see how it could have happened.

She treats dozens of patients every day.

If one of them had an eye worm...

We all have to be more careful from now on.

Hold it.

It's too late, Tom.

You blame Karen for all your troubles.

Can't wait to get your hands on her, k*ll her, as if that will make everything right.

But in your heart, you know who's really at fault.

Tom, do not listen to that crap. That's the worm talking.

Is it, Tom?

You're the one who insisted on forming this alliance with the Volm and leading this w*r.

How many people have d*ed for your mistakes?

Anne...Lexie...

We're all gonna die down here, Tom!

Karen's won.

You should have known you could never b*at her.

She's always been ahead of you.

You've lost, Tom.

This room will be your grave.

Stay here.

Tom: Everybody, I found a way out!

[ Indistinct shouting in distance ]

Anthony: Oh, fresh air!

Oh, man, oh, man!

The things we take for granted!

[ Inhales deeply ]

Ahh!

Oh. Hey, Doc.

Beam held, huh?

Yep, proves that low-probability events do happen.

Jeanne!

Dad!

[ Laughing ]

Hey! Hey!

What happened? Are you all right?

I thought you were dead.

That'll be the day.

We still on for dinner?

You bet.

We found the mole.

Who is it?

Lourdes.

Lourdes?

Yeah.

How are you? How did it go up here?

Ben: We're alive.

Where's Colonel Weaver?

Weaver: Listen up!

Once the wounded are up, I need two search parties... Are you okay?

...and a digging crew down there! Lourdes.

We still got a lot of work to do!

It was Lourdes.

I've known her since the beginning of the w*r.

There's no way she's capable of something like that.

Of course not. It wasn't her.

Karen did this.

Somehow she managed to get an implant in her.

And if we remove the thing, you think these folks are gonna be able to forgive her for all the people she's k*lled?

I mean, half of them haven't even forgiven me.

Maggie, I'm --

I'm sorry for not bringing you on the mission, for -- for everything.

I never meant to hurt you.

I know.

But you got to promise me one thing.

When you go after Karen --

Oh, you're coming with me.

I mean... If you choose to.

You bet your ass I choose to.

We're gonna get payback.

As a team.

Yeah. As a team.

It's good to see you back on your feet, my friend.

My comrades -- gone.

Like me, they never laid eyes upon their homeland.

And now to die here in a strange land... forgotten. I won't forget them...

Or why they gave their lives.

And we'll make sure they didn't die in vain.

It is too late.

You built your w*apon in a bunker designed to withstand a Beamer att*ck.

Isn't it possible that it survived?

It most certainly did.

But it is buried beneath that wreckage, and all of my engineers are dead.

I do not possess the technical expertise to operate it.

Well, maybe Dr. Kadar could help.

He's a very quick study.

I think he'd see it as a bit of a challenge.

It is a long sh*t, at best.

What's the alternative?

Come on.

First, we bury our dead, and then we start digging like there's no tomorrow.
