[Mel Ivarson]: Previously, on Arctic Air...

Now there's something I need you to do.

You said that was a one-time thing.

But you keep needing my help.
It was Zach Ward.

He told Nelson to put the dr*gs on the plane, and if he finds out I said anything, I'm dead.

That's nothing compared to the stuff I did in Iraq.

Go ahead. Switch 'er off.

See if you can impress me.

[Click]

I'll go check us out.

And you're going public.

He took a big step for me.

Go visit Bobby Martin.

Make sure he understands why he should stay out of this.

I don't have custody of Caitlin, and once an Indian kid gets put in the system, they don't come out.

[Girls]: b*at 'em, bust 'em! That's our custom!

Bust 'em, b*at 'em, let's defeat 'em.

Go-o-o-o-o-o, Ravens!

[Cheerleaders cheering wildly]

You're only young once.

Then you get too damned old to put up with it.

Take over.

Gimme a "B!"

[Team]: B!

Gimme a "U!"

[Team]: U!

Gimme an "S!"

[Team]: S!

Okay, guys, come on, keep it down a little.

Gimme a "T!"

[Team]: T!

People! People...

What have you got?

[Team]: "Tits!"

[Laughter and cheering]

[Mel Bellows]: All right!

If you don't shut up, then here's what we do.

Unpressurized cabin, everyone else passes out.

You stay that way till Yellowknife, where you wake up... If you're lucky...

Except for the ones who freeze to death.

We clear on this?

[Girls]: Do it! Do it!

[All laughing]

Guys! Keep it down!

There's other people on this plane!

Hey, they won their game.

I'm just glad you had an extra seat.

DC-3...

Chance of a lifetime.

[Girls laughing and giggling]

[Dogs barking in the distance]

[Pounding]

I know you're in there. Come on, now!

You owe me for two weeks!

Getting tired of this!

[Keys clinking]

You fly yourself?

So to speak, only I do it on a motorcycle.

[Chuckling]

My Uncle, he was a navigator he flew one of these in the second world w*r.

Something I always wanted to do.

Another check-mark on the bucket list.

Yeah, just another few thousand left to go.

Mel Ivarson.

Ben.

All right now...

Rise and shine.

ARCTIC AIR S01 Ep 08 - The professional

You're not just a businessman, Zachary.

You're head of the great sl*ve economic development council, so I know I'm talking to a man who can see the big picture.

Nice to hear I'm such a visionary.

This project goes ahead, the economic benefits are massive...

So what are you asking for?

...to the northern economy in general, and to the Dene people in particular.

Mr. Dearman.

"Ronnie."

What exactly do you want?

Cards on the table. I like that.

Sad to say, some of the other Dene leaders don't share your breadth of vision.

They're lining up to shut you down before you start.

So you're asking if I can bring a few of them around?

There we go.

[Elevator doors open and close]

Bobby Martin.

Don't tell me you're still living at the hotel?

And you're still hanging out in Yellowknife.

You know this fella?

Oh, yeah. He's one of my favourite people.

I'd ask you to join us, but we're discussing business.

This uranium project?

Anabelle Lake.

Hundreds of jobs, millions of dollars.

And whole herds of glow-in-the-dark caribou.

Go fly a plane, Bob.

Word of advice?

Might want to be careful who you do business with.

You talking to me or to him?

Take your pick.

Gentlemen.

That'd be one of your small-time thinkers.

No, that'd be one of your small-time assholes.

I wouldn't disagree with you there.

You want to start with Simon Moise, the chief at Tehjik'ea.

His word carries weight, and he was pro-development, in the past.

You could set up a meeting?

Oh, he's in town right now.

I could try and line something up for tonight.

I knew I came to the right man.

[Chuckles and clasps Ronnie's hand]

10,000.

Pardon me?

5,000 up front, and 5,000 after your meeting.

You want $10,000 to make a dinner reservation?

[Exhales faintly]

You want your project to go ahead?

Zachary, I would call that extortion.

I like to call it match-making.

[Sighs in defeat]

[Bobby]: We're half an hour out, coming up on Lutselk'e.

How's the weather holding?

[Loreen]: We've got fog rolling in over the lake.

Supposed to get thick.

Copy that, Loreen.

We're bringing her in.

Uh, no, we're not.

We'll radio in when we're done up here.

Over.

[Loreen]: O-kay. Good luck with that. Over.

[Sighing]: Come on, what more do you got to see?

Mel told me to put you through the paces, see if you're ready to get checked out on this bird.

Shontal, we all know I can fly a DC-3.

[Abruptly]: You have an electrical fire.

No, I don't.

Your procedure, Martin.

Electrical fire in flight.

Master off. Pull the breakers.

And then?

Put them back on again.

How?

With my fingers?

Teeth?

[Chuckles]: Fine!

[Sighs]: Put the breakers back on, one by one, call the ATC, turn on the transponder, and look for a place to land.

If not?

Well, you take your headsets off, put your head between your legs, and kiss your ass goodbye.

[Mutters]: Yeah.

You could lighten up a little.

We got the latest from the weather office?

Yeah.

Looks like we're gonna be grounded.

[Annoyed]: Do I need this?

Mel?

[Police radio crackles]

Corporal Dorosh.

You flew down from Inuvik yesterday?

If there's a law against that, nobody told me.

They're checking all flights in and out over the last 24 hours.

Because?

We're looking for somebody.

Recognize him?

Yep. He was on my flight.

Nice guy. What's up?

Your office, okay?

[Control tower]: Ceiling's at 200 feet.

Visibility down to half a mile.

All right. Copy that. Requesting clearance to land.

Copy that.

Runway is 26. Over.

I want you to pull up.

Count it out.

You don't have the visibility.

We're fine. Just count it out.

Bobby...

The fog only gets worse, not better.

You can't see anything!

What did they do, move the runway while we've been up here?

Instrument flight rules.

Count it out.

220... 200...

180...

160...

140...

120...

100...

See? What did I tell you?

[Tires screeching]

[Rattling]

[Shontal sighs irately]

Smooth as a baby's bottom.

Depending on the baby.

He showed up at the Inuvik airport last minute, looking for a ride.

Happens all the time up here. You know that.

And when you landed in Yellowknife?

Well, he got off the plane, said goodbye.

That's the last I saw of him.

Didn't happen to say where he was headed?

Down South. Nothing specific.

So, as far as you know...?

He was here yesterday.

Unless he got out this morning, he was grounded by the frigging fog, like the rest of us.

What's the problem?

His name's Benjamin Bernadetto.

"Benny Berdee."

He's connected to biker gangs in Washington state, including some people who do business with Zach Ward.

So what was he doing in Inuvik?

Guy matching his description was seen leaving a crime scene.

A homicide.

Hey.

How'd it go?

Piece of cake, buddy.

Really?

Yeah. You know, it's more of a formality.

Well, I just heard that Shontal can be, like, a major hard-ass.

I've heard it...

But...

No... I don't believe it, so...

So, did you give Mel the good news?

Good news?

Yeah. Another DC-3 pilot in the mix.

[Scoffs]

You're unbelievable, you know that?

What you did up there was completely reckless.

Well, I landed, didn't I?

Barely.

After I specifically told you not to.

What? I made a judgment call.

Let's be clear about something.

Down here, you may be the boss, but, up there, it matters Jack sh*t who has the corner office, and, until you get that, you're not ready.

Not ready?

Not even close.

That'll be my report to Mel.

But you can't be serious!

Oh, you'll know when I'm joking.

Okay, I'm a little rusty, fair enough, but we're expanding our operations here.

We need pilots, and if you're telling me...

You're cocky, you're cavalier, and you overestimate yourself.

The North is littered with debris from pilots just like that.

Not ready.

[Footsteps receding]

Shontal's got high standards. That's good.

She thinks she's still in the m*llitary.

I swear to God, she did everything but call me "jarhead."

[Laughing]: Well, I like her.

Once you two get to know each other...

Why the hell did Mel hire her?

Oh, just to piss you off, Bobby.

I wish I thought that was a joke.

[Laughing]

Hey! 7:00. Right?

Dinner. Your place. Got it.

Bring your smile.

[Pouring coffee]

Does he know Shontal's going to be there?

They just got off on the wrong foot.

[Zach]: I have a shipment I want you to move for me to Port Radium.

I need to know the flights Arctic Air has scheduled.

Flights are all grounded.

Yeah, but they won't stay grounded forever.

Please...

I've done what you've asked, every time.

When your sister got herself in trouble, you came to me, and did I turn you away?

Yeah, I know, but...

I stepped up for you.

I can't keep doing this.

Nelson.

You lookin' for something?

Aren't we all?

But if we can't find love, we'll settle for a friendly face in a lonely world.

Zachary Ward?

And you are...?

We have mutual friends. Down South?

Oh, you're the guy.

You just come down...

Up North. Yeah.

Good trip?

Well, except now I'm stuck in Yellowknife.

Now, don't get me wrong, nothing against the place.

It's a bit cold, bit middle-of-nowhere, but I'm sure it has all kinds of charm.

It's just being stuck.

I understand.

If the planes aren't flying by tomorrow, I'm thinking maybe I'll drive instead, but I'd need a vehicle.

I can help you with that.

I'd take that as kindness, Zachary.

[Chuckles uneasily]

[Indistinct announcement crackling]

Loreen figures it's that m*rder, up in Inuvik.

Organized crime.

You know that for a fact?

Well, news report said the vic was "known to police."

And that means that Mel flew the perp down here with him.

[Kirby, stunned]: Shut up!

I'm only saying.

One of our planes?

Mel's not talking. Go ahead, ask Loreen.

[Coffee spout gurgling]

Seems like there was a "Person of interest" on the flight.

What, like... A hitman?

It's gangs.

If it's gangs, it's dr*gs.

And if it's heroin, that means the Triad is in there somewhere.

Cece knows stuff.

Watches lots of TV.

And those boys are everywhere.

The arm is long.

Mugshot was a bald white guy.

My money wouldn't be on Triads.

Bikers.

Mm.

So what's the deal, huh?

They clipped this guy because...?

Oh, well, there's three possibilities...

Uh, turf w*r, a drug-rip, or a rat.

I'm only saying.

He was a police informer.

I've got a cousin, who works in dispatch.

Is there anywhere you don't have a cousin?

Our arm is long.

Yeah, those bikers, they get a rodent problem, they bring in the exterminator.

Pew! Gone.

I'm only sayin'.

[Police radios crackling]

[Nelson]: That's him. That's the guy.

How long ago?

I don't know. Like, an hour?

He's still in Yellowknife. Let's check the hotels.

And you're gonna call me on the phone, right?

I know, but...

We've been over this.

You never try to meet me in public.

You don't come here. Understood?

I'm not going back to work.

Calm down.

I need to get out of Yellowknife.

We need you here, Nelson.

You're gonna help us build a case against Zach Ward.

No, listen. I can't take this stuff anymore.

Well, you're the one who decided to smuggle dr*gs.

Now, I would hate to see you go to jail.

So what happens to my little sister?

Yes, Nelson Janvier.

The kid who works at Arctic Air.

I-I thought you would want to know.

You did the right thing by calling me, Tanya.

Thank you.

[Hangs up]

There.

Thanks for the ride.

Yeah, I didn't want my star spiker catching a cold.

Oh! Hey, um...

I marked the biology tests.

I studied for that, I swear, every day for a week.

86%.

Seriously?

Yeah!

You're doing good, Caitlin.

Keep up the good work.

Yes, ma'am.

Seeya!

Aren't you supposed to be at work?

We need to go.

What's wrong?

Just come on.

Hey. I'm heading out.

Enjoy your elk.

Krista's making elk medallions.

How do you know everything that happens here?

Krista asked me for a recipe.

She figured I might know something traditional.

And, naturally...

I went online.

You can find anything.

[Sets package down]

What are you doing this for?

Well, if this fog ever lifts, we've got cargo to move.

Yeah, well, we have staff to move it.

Where's Nelson?

He quit.

[Loreen continues moving stock]

I'm your brother and I'm making a decision.

You can't be serious.

It just isn't working out, so we're going home.

To Jackson River?

Nine months ago, you couldn't wait to get me away from that place.

Yeah, I made a mistake.

"You're with a bad crowd.

Gotta get you to the city, get some good schooling."

We were better off there, with people we've known our whole lives.

Yellowknife is home now!

I really like it here.

[Snaps]: Just do what I tell you, okay?

For once in your whole life!

Not unless you tell me what's going on.

[Hangers clatter]

Is this about Zach Ward?

Nelson...

You told me you weren't doing that anymore...

Smuggling his sh*t up to the communities.

You promised.

It's work. I screwed up.

You got fired?

I don't even want to talk about it.

So get a job someplace else!

Arctic Air isn't the only company in Yellowknife.

If you don't pack your stuff, I'll do it for you.

Fine.

Go back to Jackson River.

Spend the rest of your life skinning muskrat.

I've got my own life.

[Door opens]

Caitlin!

[Slam]

Do you need help with anything?

Relax. You're the guest.

Pretty good with a Kn*fe.

Just ask your business partner.

Bobby?

What a d*ck!

I'm sorry.

I know he's your friend, and he's management, but that guy thinks he's God's gift.

Speaking of which... Where would you like him to sit?

He's coming?

Yes!

Um... okay, you know, Bobby...

Bobby has a bit of an ego, but once you get to know him, he is a great guy.

Terrific sense of humour.

Okay, you're making this sound like a blind date.

Well, basically.

No.

No! Of course not.

She thinks that you two would make a good fit.

Blake!

[Background music playing]

[Chuckles awkwardly]

Mm...

Okay. Many... many women find Bobby attractive.

I mean, not me, personally, but, uh, other women...

Dev! Will you joining us?

Oh, no, no. Fifth-wheel. Don't mind me.

Uh, Krista, could I borrow some laundry soap?

Yeah, sure.

Bon appetit.

Dev's fun, too.

[Resumes zucchini chopping]

Just tell me what's going on.

I shipped some dr*gs for Zach Ward.

You knew that.

Yeah, but you're done with that.

Right?

The p...

The police said I should keep doing what Zach told me to do.

The police?

They found out.

They said that they wouldn't send me to jail, as long as I gave them information.

And they said they had my back, but, that guy in Inuvik...

He was a snitch, and look what happened to him.

Okay. Just calm down.

If Zach finds out...

I'll find Caitlin.

You just go back to the apartment.

You know, with any luck, she'll be there already.

I should have never left Jackson River.

I'm gonna find your sister, Nelson.

And then we'll work something out with the police.

Caitlin's the smart one.

She belongs in Yellowknife.

That's why I brought her here in the first place.

But me?

You should see me on the land, Bobby.

Hunting, trapping... That's what I'm good at.

That's where it all makes sense.

But here?

I hate this place.

Where the hell have you been?

I left you three messages.

So now I'm calling you back.

Where are you?

Supporting local artists.

What's your problem?

We got a rat.

[Indistinct chatter]

I got this guy who does a job for me, and now I find out he's informing.

Why are you telling me this?

Because I need you to deal with it.

Your problem, Zachary. Not mine.

He saw you.

This afternoon, at the warehouse.

That Nelson kid saw us together, then he went to the cops.

This is what you do.

I'm just a businessman. I don't go and...

And you're using your phone?

You assh*le!

Get off this call. Now.

Oh, sh*t.

Berdee?

[Splash]

Berdee!

[Beep]

Well, I guess is just more for the rest of us to enjoy.

Phone him, see what's going on.

I already left him a message.

Well, phone him again if it bothers you so much.

How's the elk?

It's really good.

It's an old Dene recipe, from Loreen.

Hmm!

Mm.

It's the level of self-absorption.

That's what pisses people off.

[Chuckles]

Bobby can dominate a dinner party without even showing up.

Maybe he'll join us in bed tonight.

Dev!

Come on, join us.

I'm a vegetarian.

Have some vegetables.

No.

[Bobby]: You knew about this?

That Nelson was a police informer?

Yeah. I knew.

Since when?

Since the cops came to me.

And you didn't bother to mention it?

I'm telling you now.

Look, what was I supposed to do?

I'd have fired his ass when we caught him shipping dr*gs for Zach Ward, but they didn't want his cover blown.

The cops are just using this kid.

Either I played ball, or they'd shut us down for weeks, sift through every invoice filed since Adam and Eve discovered apples.

Nelson could get k*lled.

This is our responsibility.

The hell it is!

Look, if Zach Ward finds out...

Are you gonna tell him?
'Cause I'm not gonna tell him.

And I kind of doubt Nelson's gonna tell him.

Look, you're being an assh*le.

Your heart's bleeding on my floor.

I'm gonna call around and see if anybody's seen Caitlin.

Suit yourself.

You're gonna go over to their apartment and make sure he's okay.

I'm going home, Robert.

Order a pizza, cr*ck a couple of cold ones.

Look, just call me when you get to Nelson's.

Hey! Nelson made his bed!

[Footsteps receding]

[Dialing]

[Line ringing]

Hey, you've reached Nelson.

Leave me a message.

[Beep]

Nelson, it's Mel. Call me.

Now.

[Engine shuts down]

[Strains of loud party filtering from behind doors]

[Loads chamber]

Caitlin, answer your phone!

I need you to call me. This is serious.

[Doorknob rattling]

Caitlin?

[Rattling]

[Thump]

[Crashing]

[Sounds of rummaging]

[Clattering]

[Rummaging continues, muffled]

[Door creaking]

Ben?

Ben Berdee! Mel Ivarson, Arctic Air.

What the hell are you doing here?

I could ask you the same thing.

Just looking up an old friend.

Is that a fact?

[Ben, muffled]: More of an old acquaintance.

Doesn't seem to be home, though.

Too bad.

It's not like we were close.

You, uh... Live in this building?

Me? No.

Just dropping by?

Yep.

Why don't I buy you a beer?

You called me "Berdee."

What's that?

You said "Ben Berdee."

That's your name.

How do you know?

Well, on the plane, we introduced ourselves.

I said my name was Ben.

"Berdee" is a nickname.

Not too many people know it, this far North.

Guess I'm one of the privileged few.

[Door creaks]

[Party crowd cheers as beer arrives]

Busy place, all of a sudden.

[Party door shuts]

[Starts pounding]

Nelson? Mel Ivarson.

[Door bangs]
Nelson!

Nelson?

[Sighs]

He doesn't get to make that decision.

He's not my dad.

And even if he was...

It's not like you're 12 years old.

Exactly.

[Cell phone buzzing]

I don't believe this.

Your brother again?

So you just left?

Mel what's-his-name showed up. From Arctic Air.

Mel Ivarson?

He knew my name.

He's been talking to the cops.

That's the only way he'd know.

Or he saw the damned TV.

What?

They've been showing your picture all night.

A "person of interest."

You didn't bother to tell me?

I tried to tell you on the phone, but you'd already cut me off.

So the cops know I'm in Yellowknife.

Don't worry. We'll get you out of town.

[Bustling chatter]

[Girls giggling]

[Phone buzzing]

Not again.

Nelson? Go away!

No, listen to me.

You listen!

It's my life, and...

[Yells]: They're trying to k*ll me, Caitlin!

What?

They came to our apartment.

Who came?

That means you're not safe either.

I've been counting on you, Zachary.

Same as the people I work for.

They expect you to deal with your end of the operation.

Hey, I'm on top of it.

Tell them that.

Clean up your mess, or we'll be having a very different conversation.

'Kay? Just get out of there, but... but don't go home.

Go to a friend's place.

Caitlin, hey? Are you okay?

Where are you right now?

Doesn't matter.

I want to see you.

They're not going to hurt you, Caitlin. I promise.

I'm going to fix this... Whatever it takes.

[Beep]

[Background chatter]

She says she can't go home and she doesn't want to talk about it.

Want to tell me what's going on, little brother?

Nelson is in trouble.

Maybe let's just leave it at that, okay?

It's asinine to talk about someone when they're sitting three meters away from you.

You know, you can stay with me tonight, if you want.

But then I got to go out of town, 'cause I'm forming an opposition against your pal Dearman's uranium project.

Just give me some credit.

Remember? I'm the guy who knocked his teeth.

Yeah, well, that was a start.

We're gonna kick his ass back to Calgary.

True.

[Background chatter]

You'll be okay if you stay with my sister for the night.

Did Nelson say where he was?

He said they want to k*ll him.

What?

Look, that's not going to happen.

All right? Trust me.

He's going to do something stupid.

[Mel]: I'm guessing the kid heard our voices, and ran.

When exactly was this?

Maybe half an hour ago.

Berdee?

He headed for the exit.

That's all I can tell you.

Did you see which way he was going?

Did he have a vehicle?

I assume he was going out, and if he had a vehicle, he didn't bring it inside with him.

Yeah, it's Dorosh. We've had a sighting on our guy.

Look, I'm here about Nelson.

We've completely screwed up his life!

Half an hour ago.
200-block Grayson Avenue.

It's mainly your fault, but I'll share the blame, for failing to remember what a prick you can be.

Go home, Mel.

We owe that kid.

These are serious people. Stay out of it.

[Radios crackling]

Why the hell would I go to the trouble of...

Because you've always had a thing for the guy.

Oh, okay. A "thing." Really?

We're back here again?

Since you can't be with him yourself, you try to set him up with a friend.

Okay, this is such total bullshit.

It's classic.

I had three sisters, Krista.

I grew up watching the female mind in action.

[Exchange continues indistinctly]

Oh! Dev.

I'll give you a hand.

Oh, no, no. Oh, no. Please.

Go be with the others.

[Krista]: You're the one who keeps having the conversation.

I thought we'd laid it to rest, and then you keep on bringing...

Two tours in Iraq. I have seen enough combat.

Two tours?

Ooh!

[Gasps]: Ah! That's not mine.

It's Astrid's.

Hey. I'm open-minded.

Um, we both rent rooms here.

When she's away, I do her laundry.

And when you're away?

It piles up a bit.

Thataboy.

Blake had to leave early.

[Door slams]

Who's ready for dessert?

W-what is it?

Caitlin okay?

[Bobby]: She was upset, but she's fine.

Deanna found her.

Good.

Still no word on Nelson?

I'm dealing with it.

What does that mean?

[Alarmed]: Where are you?

Visiting friends.

No, I don't care.

I want someone watching his apartment, in case he comes back.

And if he goes to ground, I want you to find his sister!

[Beep]

We're closed, Ivarson.

Do you know where he is?

Who are we talking about?

You know what I'm talking about!

Nelson Janvier.

If you had half a brain, you'd go to the cops, see what kind of deal you can cut.

[Scoffs]: Cut a deal.

This is all coming down on top of your ass.

You know that guy who got clipped the other day...

Not my concern.

He snitched on the people that I do business with, and they found him.

Tracked him all the way to Inuvik.

Now you're telling me to rat these people out?

Either that, or spend the next couple of decades behind bars.

I'm not going to jail.

Hey! Never mind Nelson. I know enough to put you away.

So does Bobby Martin!

[Yells]: I swear to God, if something happens to Nelson, you'd better hope the cops get to you first!

Zach!

The hell...?

You didn't need to get involved in this.

I'll kick your ass.

Get in the truck, Ivarson.

What the hell do you think you're doing?

Cleaning up a mess.

Put the damn g*n down!

You get in the truck, or I'll sh**t you where you stand.

Zachary, get serious.

This is not Chicago, you're not friggin' Al Capone.

This is Yellowknife!

You brought this upon yourself.

[b*llet whizzes]

Zachary!

Zachary?

[Radios crackling]

[Mel]: I'm standing here, he's right there.

I swear, he's going to pull the trigger, and then... boom! He's on the ground.

And you didn't see a thing?

No.

No sh**t? No muzzle flash?

[Mel]: Tell you this much, he wasn't close.

I'm guessing a good 200, 300 meters.

Based on what?

b*llet hit Zach at least a second before I heard the sh*t.

Let's say you're right.

Over there, maybe up on top of that building.

That makes him one hell of a good sh*t.

Our friend from Washington state?

He's a professional.

We're looking for him.

Some sh*t went down between Zach and Berdee, so Berdee just took him out, do you figure?

Or maybe the sh**t hit the wrong guy, Mel.

Me?

Who the hell would...?

35 years of pissed-off customers, rival pilots, outraged husbands...

Every damned employee of transport Canada...

Not to mention the hitman would want you out of the way.

Go home, Mel. Lock your doors.

We'll be in touch.

[Sight]

Judas priest!

Nelson, you damned near gave me a heart att*ck.

Mel, I need you to take me home.

[Spoon clinks cup]

[TV news reporter]: CRTU on the scene, and the police have confirmed that the victim is Zachary Ward, a prominent local businessman and head of the Great sl*ve economic development council.

Mr. Ward was sh*t dead late last night, outside the offices of his trucking company.

We'll have more on this developing story.

sh*t.

Yeah, can you believe it?

Who the hell would do this?

Hope you didn't invest too much in that relationship.

Loreen says I can live with her, long as I want.

It's "Ms. Cassway."
Now, you show respect.

Whatever.

I've talked to social services about this.

They're okay with it.

Thank you.

Gonna work your butt off in school, right?

When you graduate, you're gonna go to college?

I'll make you proud.

You always make me proud.

I'm the one who screwed up everything.

No, you didn't.

We should get going, Nelson.

Um...

Come up and visit me, in the spring.

Yeah, of course.

And you'll come to Yellowknife.

It's not like Jackson River's on the moon.

Yeah. For sure.

[Voice breaks]: You never wanted to come here in the first place.

You did it for me.

I'll never forget that.

[Sniffles]

Love you, too.

He's a good kid, Nelson.

He has a big heart.

Hope it works out for him.

So, you're not a total assh*le, are you?

[Laughs]

Some people claim they can see redeeming qualities.

I have this tendency to make snap decisions.

Means I can sometimes be wrong about people.

That wasn't an apology.

Just... just an observation.

That's fair enough.

Bobby?

When I made that cr*ck yesterday, about debris from pilots just like you?

When I said that, I-I didn't know about your dad.

[Takes a breath and sighs]

That was an... an apology.

Thanks.

[Exhales]

What are you doing for lunch?

Hadn't decided yet.

When you do, let me know.

You okay on your own if I go back and check on our cargo?

Absolutely.

How you doing?

I was never going to make it in the city...

But, Caitlin, she's smart.

You're an idiot, all right? Made idiotic choices.

But...

[Sighs]

It's over, so stop b*ating yourself up.

It's just Caitlin didn't deserve any of this.

She'll be fine.

So will you.

Cops won't come after you.

There's no point.

Zach's no danger to anyone...

And they're going to find Ben Berdee.

Oh, yeah.

They'll find him.

[Reporter]: Just hours after reporting the slaying of Zachary Ward, we're now at a different location, amidst reports of a second m*rder.

The victim was found in a rental vehicle early this morning.

The deceased is believed to be a man with gangland ties wanted by police in connection with a recent m*rder in Inuvik.

Sources indicate he was sh*t through the head at long range with a high-powered r*fle.

Professional job.

Wait. I... I thought that was the professional?

[Cece]: Oh, I'd say he screwed up.

So they sent in another guy?

Yeah. A second professional, to take care of the first one.

These boys don't mess around.

I know them Triads are in this somewhere.

Just sayin'.

If that was lunch, how do you feel about dinner?

Don't get ahead of yourself, Martin.

No strings, no expectations.

Whatever you say.

Like I said...

Snap decisions.

I'll see you back at the shop.

Lock the door on your way out.

Uh, for what it's worth...

Sometimes, I misjudge people, too.

Work on your takeoffs and landings.

Your other skills seem fine.

[Door closes]

[Engine purring]

[Chuckles to self]

You hungry?

No. Not really.

You should eat something.

[Mel shuts cooler]

[Mel sighs]

Well...

Almost home.

Jackson River's just ahead.

[Sighs, relaxed]

You know, my grandfather taught me how to hunt.

He was the best.

Once saw him take down a caribou from, like, 500 meters.

Pretty fair sh**t'.

Yeah.

You just take a breath, and clear your head of everything, right before you pull the trigger.

That's the secret.

And before he d*ed...

...he told me he was proud of me.

He said, "I taught you good."

[Concerned]: How good?

There something you want to tell me, Nelson?

[Quietly]: I don't know.

Is there something you want to hear?

No.

Just keep an eye out for my sister.

She means everything to me.

I'll do that.
