This next part of my life is whatever I want to make it.

I don't know what you can see in your next chapter, but I can see you in mine.

Previously on Mistresses...

Any chance of pregnancy?

I'm on the pill.

No missed doses, doubling up?

Once or twice.

It was almost like Joss was obsessed with me.

Some of the things she would say about Luca.

What kind of things?

For instance, she said, "you know, I would k*ll him for you."

Josslyn Carver, you are under arrest for the m*rder of Luca Raines.

No, wait!

Anything you say can and will be used against you...

David: I wish I had better news.

Last night, after Joss was booked, she was formally charged with first-degree premeditated m*rder.

She'll be held without bail since no bail is allowed...

No bail?

Harry.

How the hell did you let this happen?

Harry.

I understand your frustration.

When can we see her?

That's the other difficult news.

Visitation is only allowed for family members at this point.

We are her family. This is crazy.

You have to argue it, right? Or appeal?

The stipulations are standard and intractable with this charge.

Wow.

Well, we're gonna have to get in touch with Savi somehow. She can see her.

She's at some ashram in India... No way to get in touch.

I already spoke to her mom this morning.

Is she coming at least?

As soon as her ship docks.

She's on some singles cruise on the Baltic.

Look, David, w-we can't just let her sit in some cell, terrified and alone.

She needs contact with people who care about her.

I will see her every day.

Who?

Alec. And Vivian.

In all that back and forth between my house and theirs, I must have missed a pill.

Do you know what you're gonna do?

No.

I spent half the night trying to make sense of the situation.

Conceiving a baby with a married man is one thing.

I'll say.

But with a married man and his wife?

I've always wanted a child, and I know I'm 38, but look at my life right now, April.

I'm so very single.

My career's an absolute mess.

I've been considering going back to school for a surgical residency.

You don't have to have it.

But to make that decision on my own?

Don't I need to tell Alec and Vivian?

Well...

Despite everything, I still love them.

And you... You want to have this baby with them?

No.

But maybe they want it without me.

Hold on. Okay, honey...

Now that Vivian's health is good again, they might really want this.

Do you realize what it would feel like to carry a baby to term, then hand it over to someone else?

Of course I don't.

[Sighs]

But in my heart, I know telling them is the right thing to do.

David, seriously, I'm freaking out.

You have to explain to me how this happened.

Joss, I need you to relax.

I just got a sermon on gender fluidity from some arsonist truck driver named Roz.

I don't even how the hell am I even in here?

You said they didn't have a motive.

Calista fed them enough incriminating details for them to build one.

What details?

Have you seen Basic Instinct?

Oh, my God. Why?

The police are asserting that you m*rder*d Luca because you were obsessed and in love with Calista.

What?!

They talked to another witness who inadvertently corroborated Calista's twisted version of you.

Who?

Your ex-girlfriend Alex.

I'm confident that she didn't mean to hurt you... okay. Wait, wait.

Alex? Why?

First... and she loved me. She would never say...

That your relationship was fast, intense, and impulsive?

That when it started, she was with someone else?

That you encouraged her to break up and then you moved in together almost immediately?

Oh, my God. This can't be happening.

Not dissimilar to your fast, whirlwind friendship with Calista, except in Calista's case, you couldn't get her away from her husband.

David, but this is insane. You realize that, right?

It was a high-profile m*rder.

They latched onto the most sensational story they could to build the most compelling case.

Okay, well, how about exposing Calista, then?

Her first husband, Justin bowler, she m*rder*d him.

That's sensational.

I had the police check it out.

And?

The case is firmly closed. Oh, my God.

The fact that Joss didn't get bail and can't have any visitors is unacceptable, especially when the police have as little as they do.

They know Joss was at the mansion the night of the m*rder.

They have video of her in Luca's bedroom trying to seduce him that night.

There's a big difference between "couldn't" and "wouldn't."

Okay.

I don't know who you think you are, but let's get things straight...

You came to me in a situation.

So you can act like this is an opportunity for me, but it's a favor to you.

No.

I'm doing you a favor by even acknowledging your existence.

You need to understand how this dynamic works, Harry Davis.

You approached me.

Did you see how quickly I got Ellis to do what I wanted?

That's because I make things happen.

And if you could get your pouty head out of your own ass, you'd realize that tonight could be a game-changer for you.

Instead, you're wasting time whining about your meaningless issues.

What's going on in my life is not meaningless.

I'm not your mommy.

I'm your agent.

And, yes, tonight is important to me.

And if you help me, I help you.

You understand?

The husband, the wife, and you?

Yes, father. It's called a throuple.

Well, that's a kitschy little term.

Karen, you know that I'm open-minded about a good many things, but in a situation like this, there is only one thing to do.

What's that?

Carry the child to term, then give it up for adoption.

I've never seen that as an option.

Well, it's the only one you have if you want to follow the teachings of the church.

I know it's difficult, but this child deserves a stable, loving family despite the unfortunate circumstances that brought it into the world.

"Unfortunate circumstances"?

The relationship that you've found yourself in...

Husband and wife possibly divorcing now.

How would you raise a child amidst all that uncertainty?

Shrouded in shame and secrecy or in some polyamorous attempt at a family if they decide to stay together?

The fact that the couple chose to enter into a sinful relationship in the first place is evidence of their poor moral character.

How would you ever explain this situation to your child?

With compassion, sensitivity, and patience...

[Sighs] The things I thought I'd get from you.

Karen, it was never my intention to offend you.

Well, you have, father.

And I don't care what your limited heart doesn't understand about my relationship with Alec and Vivian.

When this child asks, I'm going to tell him he was conceived in pure love, which is far more than a lot of kids can say about their parents.

You're letting your emotions get the best of you.

Thank freaking God.

Okay.

That's Calista Raines' house right up there.

Through those gates.

So, what are we looking for, exactly?

The cops are convinced that Joss is guilty, placing her inside the house.

[Camera shutter clicks]

So why would they check the neighboring security cameras to see who went in and out?

To be thorough?

[Chuckles] You'd like to think.

Unfortunately, they often build a narrative around the person they think who did it and ignore the rest.

Okay, I'm gonna send these to Mikey.

He'll knock on a few doors and follow up.

Why are you doing this for me?

You know why.

Giving funds to cancer patients in need...

Is so important to me.

My younger sister, Sharon, d*ed of breast cancer a little over a year ago.

Sharon was the vision of health.

She was one of the most talented and ambitious people I've ever known.

She'd just finished medical school.

She went back in her late 20s after realizing that corporate finance wasn't her thing.

[Chuckles] She wasn't a money monger like me.

[Laughter]

Um, she'd just started her practice and gotten engaged to a wonderful fellow doctor when she was diagnosed.

After her 18th round of chemo and second unsuccessful surgery, I saw Sharon cry about cancer for the very first time.

I held her...

[Voice breaking] And told her I was sorry and asked what I could do.

"Get out my checkbook," she said.

I realized Sharon wasn't crying for herself.

She was crying for a fellow patient she'd met that day...

Carla.

Carla had stage 3 breast cancer and couldn't afford her treatments...

Not if she wanted to keep a roof over her kids' heads.

So my sweet...

Generous sister [voice breaking] Took all of the money that she'd put away for the children that she would never have and she gave it to Carla so that she could at least have a chance.
