04x04 - Suzy Doll

Post by bunniefuu »

This is Suzy doll.

Heather always had Suzy with her.

I was so happy. She looked just like me.

That was like her best friend.

Things are getting weird.

Bad things are gonna happen in this house.

It was making a statement.

"Hello. I'm here."

I cast ye out, ye noxious vermin.

[Thunder rumbles]

I hated that doll.

[Haunting music]

Ow!

Whoa.

Back in 1983, I'd been married for 15 years to Linda.

Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah.

No. Not yet. All right?

Mwah. Soon.

My oldest daughter is Laura.

Give it to me now!

No. No.

My middle daughter is Lisa, and the baby is Heather.

[Kids laughing]

It was Heather's sixth birthday party, and we were preparing for a party for her.

[Kids laughing]

Birthdays are always big in our family.

Heather was a lot of fun.

She was outgoing, always playing, always following me around, 'cause always wants to play with me 'cause I'm the middle one.

Give it to me! Now!

Back then, we didn't have a lot of money, but we lived hearty, you know, a lot of fun.

[Indistinct chatter]

Mom and dad said that grandma tippy and my aunt Robin were coming down from upstate New York and that my aunt Robin had something special for me that she made.

Here it is.

This... is Suzy doll.

And it was this large doll.

And I made her especially for you.

Thank you.

It was amazing just how she nailed it to look exactly like me.

Had the brown hair, had the pigtails, and little ribbons down on the bottom.

It had the big eyes, rosy cheeks with the smile.

It was a big doll... Same size as Heather.

It was all about Suzy doll that day.

[Thunder rumbling]

Well, it was about maybe 2:00 in the morning.

We were sleeping, and all of a sudden, I just heard this noise.

[Low moaning]

Gerry.

Gerry, wake up.

What?

Something's down there.

And then I kept hearing this sound, and it was like a growl, so I figured it was an animal in trouble.

[Thunder rumbling]

[Growling]

I got up, opened up the window wide.

It's like taking your voice and just turning it inside out and just drawing it out.

[Distorted growling]

We could see this shadow coming up, up the road.

[Thunder rumbling]

[Distorted growling]

The streetlights were being cloaked by darkness one by one.

[Growling]

It just kept getting louder and louder the closer it got.

My god, Gerry.

What is it?

[Thunder crashing]

Hell was coming down that street.

[Distorted wailing]

[Thunder rumbling]

[Wind howling]

[Thunder crashing]

We had no idea what that was.

Couldn't explain it.

[Ominous musical flourish]

Then all of a sudden, it was just gone.

[Foreboding music]

It was morning time.

I took Suzy down with me, sat her on the couch.

Remember being excited to spend the day with Suzy doll.

[Whimsical music on TV]

Hey, honey?

Hey, mom.

Here you go.

I'll be back in five, okay?

Okay.

[Whistling and boinging on TV]

I put the cereal down for a quick second 'cause I wanted to get a drink from my mom.

[Clock ticking]

[Slide whistle plays and cymbal crashes on TV]

[Eerie chime music]

Mom, can I have a glass of milk?

Of course.

Thanks.

Yeah.

As I'm going back, I look over to the couch.

She's sitting in the rocking chair six feet away.

Wow. I know I didn't put her there.

I was six years old, so I'm thinking it was possible that she did walk from the couch over to the rocking chair.

[Clock ticking]

It was just gonna be our little secret.

[Door creaking]

When I saw Heather, I always saw Suzy doll with her.

That was like her best friend.

[Chatters indistinctly]

What, Suzy?

She was talking to it constantly.

It was just the strangest thing.

We're sisters.

There was just something about that doll that I can't explain... I can't explain.

[Dog barking]

[Buzzing]

My husband worked nights, and I worked during the days in a factory.

I would get up about 5:30 in the morning.

[Light scratching]

And I just heard this noise.

[Scratching continues]

[Glass shattering]

I got up.

Now I'm thinking, "are the kids playing jokes on us?"

[Clattering]

[Gasps]

I was shocked.

[Beads clicking]

[Milk pattering]

And I was annoyed that it could be one of the girls doing this.

[Beads clicking]

What the hell's going on here?

I don't know.

Gerry, he thinks that the kids are horsing around like kids do.

All right, come on. Everybody get up.

Let's go! [Claps]

Get up. Get up. Wake up. Come on.

I was pissed off.

That's it, girls. I've had enough. Okay?

The milk's left out. The food's left out.

I said, "what the hell's going on here?"

I mean, food is money.

It wasn't...

Did you do it?

No.

Laura, did you do it?

No! It was you!

What the hell's going on here?

It was not me.

Why are you always blaming everything on me?

Lisa, you're so annoying!

What the hell's going on here, huh?

Dad, we didn't do it. What's your problem?

Well, who did it, huh?

We don't know, but it wasn't us!

We didn't understand why the girls are being so disobedient.

Just tell me.

Both: No!

Well, what do you mean, "no"?

How's that happening?

You're looking for a reasonable explanation for all this nonsense going on, and you just can't get it.

[Alarm blaring]

[Static crackling]

Later that day, my wife was at work.

As soon as I woke up, I'm hearing this, like, static.

[Static crackling]

Sounds like the TV.

[Drawer scrapes]

[Foreboding music]

The whole parlor's just totally rearranged, like a tornado whipped through there and just threw everything around.

[Static hissing]

This is heavy furniture that we have, very heavy.

I'm thinking to myself, "it's not the kids."

[Hissing continues]

And Heather is sitting in front of the TV with static, just staring at it.

Heather, what are you doing?

I just got so creeped out.

I was just in shock. I couldn't believe it.

Heather?

Heather?

Heather!

She's just glaring into this like she's totally tranced... Comatose.

It was weird. It wasn't like her.

You okay, sweetheart?

Every day, something was happening.

You're asking yourself, "well, it's not the kids.

You know, what could it be?"

[Metallic clinking]

Gerry suggested that the only thing he can come up with...

That somebody has a key, is breaking in in the middle of the night, and doing this.

[Screwdriver clicking]

I proceeded to change the locks.

Being a husband, a father, your main duty is to protect your family.

[Buzzing and clinking]

So it was the middle of the night...

[Distorted laughter]

It sounded like children playing, and it sounded like it was coming from outside.

[Distorted laughter]

What's going on here?

It just wasn't normal.

[Children laughing and chattering indistinctly]

Laura, do you hear that?

Yeah. I hear that too.

Go look out the window.

Why do I have to do it?

'Cause you're older, and I'm scared.

[Children laughing and chattering indistinctly]

There's nothing there.

[Children laughing]

But we still hear the children... children playing.

[Children laughing and chattering indistinctly]

[Indistinct whispering]

I hear a whisper.

Laura, someone's whispering in my ear.

My ear got cold.

My shoulder got cold and my neck.

Just go to sleep.

And I could not wait for morning to come.

I just wanted to run out of the room, run down the hall, wake up my mother.

But I couldn't move. I was frozen.

So I get up in the morning, and I notice hair.

There's, like, hair on my face.

I'm getting it out of my eyes.

Mom. Dad.

Mom, look what's happening to my hair.

And I looked at her.

Gerry.

It was a perfect circle in back of her head.

Are you hurting yourself?

No.

Are you pulling out your hair?

No.

[Whispers] It's okay, sweetheart.

I was so scared.

I had no idea what was going on with me.

[Ominous musical flourish]

[Siren wailing]

[Phone ringing]

You okay there?

Okay.

So we took her to the best specialist we could.

We're scared now, as parents.

For a girl to lose her hair, it's traumatic.

Now, guys, we're gonna go in for some tests, and when I get the results back, I'll get back to you.

Good luck.

Thank you.

Take care.

Thank you.

It's okay, sweetheart.

Okay.

[Glass shatters]

[Dog barking]

I'll get the salad.

Okay.

Almost ready over there?

Yep.

All right, I'm starving.

Lisa, dinner. Come on while it's hot.

Dinner time was very, very special, because between my parents working constantly, this is the only time we all can sit down and talk about our day.

Dinner is ready.

All: Mmm.

[Sighs]

How was everyone's day? Good?

It was good.

It was all right.

Yeah? What did you guys do?

I'm sitting next to Heather, and out of the blue, Heather says...

Bad things are gonna happen in this house.

But her lips didn't move.

What'd she say?

"Bad things are gonna happen in this house."

It was the creepiest thing I've ever seen Heather do.

And it sounded so loud and clear, like there was a tape recorder underneath her chair.

We got the results back.

It looks like your daughter's hair was being pulled out of her head.

Somebody was actually yanking it out of her head.

Are you kidding me?

How's that even possible?

That's what the test shows.

My mother's face just went white, and I was like... I just couldn't believe it.

I was terrified.

Something in that apartment was pulling my hair out, and I didn't feel it.

But it wasn't my family, and it wasn't me.

Something was pulling my hair out.

[Swings creaking]

Hey. You want to come play with me?

Heather was just acting strange.

She wasn't acting like herself.

Heather always had Suzy with her.

That's not normal. It was creepy.

I just didn't like the doll.
[Indistinct radio chatter]

With seasonal temperatures. Clear skies tonight with a low near 70. Increasing cloudiness...

One afternoon, I wanted to get my roller skates. Nobody else was in the house except me and my mother.

[Door creaking]

So I go to enter me and my sisters' room, and I stopped, because I see Suzy doll, and I just didn't want to go into the room.

Ma? You know where my skates are? Can you help me find them?

[Foreboding musical flourish]

And as soon as we walked back in the room, I said, "the doll's gone."

Where'd you put them?

Ma, the doll's gone off the table.

What do you mean, "she's gone"?

She was right there, and now she's not.

Where'd you put her?

I didn't.

We'll find her, okay?

Things are getting weird.

I was freaked out by it.

I heard a noise coming from the bathroom...

[Water rushing]

[Ominous musical flourish]

Mom.

And there's Suzy.

She's sitting on the toilet, pants down.

That was so disturbing.

There's no way a doll can walk from a room to another room and decide to sit on a toilet.

I was starting to get scared.

I'm already losing my hair.

You know, things are... We're hearing noises.

Heather's not acting the same.

Go downstairs, honey.

That was it for me.

That was my boiling point with the doll.

And I'm thinking it's somebody just playing a joke on us or the kids are moving things around... I don't know.

[Clock ticking]

One day, I was sleeping, and nobody's in the house.

[Door creaking]

[Glass shattering]

[Vase scraping]

[Glass shatters]

As soon as I opened my eyes, and I said, "what the hell is this?"

[Glass shatters]

[Clattering]

It was noise. It was a lot of noise.

[Clattering]

And I'm getting that sick, scared feeling.

[Suspenseful music]

[Metallic clanging]

[Exhales sharply]

All the cabinets were open. The drawers were open.

The contents strewn all over the floor.

[Exhales sharply]

[Ominous music]

And I just froze.

I looked; I couldn't believe what I was seeing here.

The fronts were sitting on top of the table, but the rear legs were just hanging off in midair.

I'm taking it off. No resistance.

It's defying gravity.

That just don't happen.

It's physically impossible.

Up until this point, I was a true nonbeliever of this hocus-pocus crap.

I got proven wrong.

Hey.

Gerry picked me up at work.

[Sighs]

You okay?

I said, "look."

I said, "I know how tight it is," but I says, "we got a problem."

I, uh... I walked into the kitchen, and the chairs were, like, above the table, like midair.

Gerry, the kids are playing a joke on you.

No. No, no, they're not.

It's not the kids.

This is something else.

This is something, like, out of this world almost, like something supernatural.

Because I didn't see it, I didn't believe it.

And he started talking about it, and I still didn't believe it.

I had no proof, so therefore, I had to wait.

All right. That's great.

And sure enough, her day came.

[Indistinct chatter]

[Alarm blaring]

[Clock ticking]

Next day, it's about lunchtime, and the kids were in school.

Gerry was out.

Suzy was on the couch, so I decided to put her in the rocking chair.

[Clock ticking]

[Chair creaking]

I sat down to have lunch.

[Beads clicking]

I see this marble going down the hallway.

Here comes another marble out of the kids' room.

So now I think there's somebody in the house, an intruder in my home.

Now I'm scared.

I'm by myself, and I'm scared.

[Eerie music]

[Stairs creaking]

When I went in the kids' room, I was just petrified.

[Clattering]

[Suspenseful music]

And I was scared to put my hand on the handle.

[Doll cries]

[Doll thuds]

[Doll crying]

There was nobody there.

I just don't understand this.

[Door creaking]

[Door thuds]

[Ominous musical flourish]

So I went down the hallway.

[Clock ticking]

Then I go into the living room, and the first thing I saw was the marbles.

It was just like if somebody just placed them right in the middle of the floor there.

[Suspenseful music]

[Ominous musical flourish]

The doll's gone.

It just, like, disappeared.

[Rustling]

Felt like my heart was outside of my chest.

[Suspenseful music]

[Rustling and glass tinkling]

I was totally freaked out.

That's when it clicked in.

There's something wrong.

There's something wrong, and it isn't the kids.

[Sniffles]

Honey?

Honey?

We do have a problem.

Whatever it is, this is supernatural, obviously.

It's okay.

We didn't tell the kids half the stuff 'cause we were trying to protect them.

We're desperate by now.

There's something here.

During all these problems we were having, we were just strapped... Drained financially.

So we couldn't move because of this reason.

You know, so, I mean, we had no choice but to stay.

I went to lay down on my bed.

Something hit me on my side right here.

[Groaning]

My arm was burning like hell.

[Panting]

[Tapping]

I looked up.

On the end of the bed is the spindles.

They went up. They spun around.

And they just pointed straight down.

[Whirring]

[Spindles bang]

We had a Major problem going on.

Linda!

[Panting]

Linda!

[Speaks indistinctly]

Go.

There were these claw marks from the top of his shoulder all the way down, and there was four of them, deep, and they were so red.

You got to go.

Towel. Towel. Now.

Get out of here.

Get your sister. Get your sister and get out!

Go! Get them out of here!

You too. Go!

Now I'm scared.

Whatever this thing is was getting violent.

But we had no idea what that was.

[Chair creaking]

[Sighs]

Gerry.

Yeah?

What are we gonna do?

I mean, who are we gonna call?

We needed help now, because now it's getting physical, and it's gonna hurt somebody, maybe permanently.

I'll call father Lewis.

Yeah.

Okay.

We called my reverend, and he suggested that we see this paranormal investigator.

So we had to call Lorraine Warren.

I remember the name, 'cause I've seen 'em on TV.

As soon as she walked in, she's just like...

There's something here.

I'm gonna need you to get everybody around the table.

Okay. Kids, come on.

She insists that we all had to be in the room together, but Heather was in bed.

Okay, I want everybody to hold hands.

Okay, grab my hand.

[Scratching]

You hear that?

[Crunching]

[Distorted scratching]

[Whooshing]

I got a touch.

My ear went cold.

[Whooshing]

Then suddenly, a strong wind went in, like, a circle.

Get out of here!

Get out of here!

And then we heard Heather starting to speak.

Get out of here! Get out of here!

Get out of here! Get out of here!

Get out of here!

Get out of here! Get out of here!

Get out of here! Get out of here!

Get out of here! Get out of here!

[Distorted] Get out of here!

Get out of here!

Get out of here! Get out of here!

Get out of here!

Linda threw Holy water on Heather.

[Distorted] Get the [Bleep] out of here!

Get the [Bleep] out of here!

The words that were coming out her mouth were so vile.

[Distorted] Get the [Bleep] out of here!

It was an older voice.

This was not Heather at all.

[Growling]

I was horrified.

You see your daughter this way, six-year-old...

It's just not right.

What the hell's going on here?

Is she possessed?

Is my daughter possessed?

No.

Not yet, but it's working on it.

[Distorted] Die!

I was six years old. I didn't know what was going on.

I don't remember 'cause I was so young.

[Moaning]

But I think you need an exorcism.

What?

[Panting]

So she wanted me to meet with father McKenna.

He's done exorcisms before.

[Groaning]

We thought this was about the last chance.

[Clock ticking]

Father McKenna came with another priest.

We all set up chairs in the back in a row... two rows.

We were facing father McKenna, but the whole apartment was behind us.

Father McKenna said...

Do not look back.

Look straight ahead.

No matter what happens, do not look back.

Heather didn't act up during the exorcism.

Maybe it was because with father McKenna there, it couldn't get to her.

In the name of the father, the son, and the Holy spirit, amen.

Lord, give me the strength to protect this family.

I was scared because I didn't know what was gonna happen.

This is a priest in our home.

This is gonna get ugly.

As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, Lord.

He wasn't no more than a minute into this...

Less... Seconds into this.

[Warbling and buzzing]

Strike terror into the beast.

[Scratching]

All of a sudden, we could hear this scratching, scratching, scratching on the wall.

[Chair creaking]

With one wave of your mighty hand, remove this evil from this family.

[Distorted growling, buzzing]

We heard this growl.

And allow them to be no longer held c*ptive.

That was the same growl that we heard outside that we could never explain months ago.

[Wind whistling and chandelier tinkling]

Whatever was out there that night got in.

[Distorted growling]

And the growling's getting closer, like it's making its way down from our room to the hallway.

[Howling]

Strike terror into the beast.

[Wind whooshing]

Holy hell started breaking loose.

[Wind whooshing and howling]

The windows were closed and the curtains were just blowing everywhere like there was 50-, 60-mile-per-hour winds.

[Wind whooshing and howling]

I cast ye out, ye noxious vermin.

[Distorted growling, wind howling]

It sounds like it's right at the doorway.

It sounds mad.

It does not want the priest in here.

[Distorted growling]

This is gonna get us. It's gonna get us now.

[Distorted growling]

[Distorted growling, wind howling]

I look up.

One of the wooden crucifix turned upside down, like someone was moving it.

[Wind howling]

It was horrific.

It was so scary, we could not move.

Through Christ our Lord who will come and judge the living and the dead and the world by fire.

[Wind howling, chair creaking]

When I saw Suzy doll sitting there, that was it.

I realized for everything that was going on, the doll was always there.

And that's when I know for a fact it was the doll all along.

[Wind whooshing]

I know that Suzy doll came to life in my apartment.

[Distorted howling]

In the name of the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit, amen.

Amen!

[Wind howling]

[Chandelier tinkling]

[Rocking chair creaking]

The priest told us to go outside now, because they're gonna finish, and they need to finish alone.

[Siren wailing]

Come on.

We left the apartment.

Okay. [Sighs]

Our Father who art in heaven...

We left him up there, and we kept praying downstairs.

I just pray that you protect this family with the full armor, the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of the faith, the feet for the gospel of peace, and the sword for the word of the Spirit.

[Wind howling]

[Howling stops]

All of a sudden, the sound stopped.

Everything stopped.

Just pray that you protect this family with the full armor, the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the feet for the gospel of peace.

The look that I got from the priest says, "everything's gonna be good now."

Come on. Come on, sweetheart. Come on.

After that, I decided to get out of the house for a couple days.

[Creaking]

Linda!

What are you doing?

Then all of a sudden, I heard the rocking chair in the living room.

[Wind whistling]

I realized the exorcism didn't work, so I decided I was gonna get rid of Suzy right then and there.

And I threw her in the dumpster.

I was very scared, but I just couldn't have this doll in the house anymore.

Mom! Mom, stop!

[Crying]

It was something terrible and evil about this doll.

[Crying]

Heather was crying, but I had no choice.

I did not want this doll anywhere near my children anymore.

[Foreboding musical flourish]

Later that week, I saw the garbage truck out the window, and I knew the doll was in there.

And I said, "thank god the doll is gone."

After Suzy doll, I never owned another doll again.

Never.

[Gentle piano music]

I was happy the doll was gone.

I never looked at the doll anyway.

I couldn't stand it.

Creeped me out and I... I wanted it out of the house.

I often wonder where Suzy is now.

[Bicycle bell rings]

You're gonna be my new best friend.

Mommy! Mommy! Look what I found.

[Eerie musical flourish]
