Woman: We start with breaking news.

Previously on "Notorious"...

My attorney had sex with my wife.

Oscar...

Sarah's final autopsy report came in.

It says that Sarah Keaton had given birth.

Where the hell is Sarah's child?

The baby was sick, lived for three days.

The family acted like it never happened.

I'm sorry, viewers, but it appears there are several policemen on my set.

Max, what the hell is going on?

Police received an anonymous tip Jake was hiding the m*rder w*apon.

You are being charged with homicide in the death of Sarah Keaton.

[Sirens wailing]

Louise: "LHL" has just learned that accused k*ller Jake Gregorian is on the run.

L.A. County Sheriffs are in pursuit of a black SUV registered to the defendant's law firm heading southbound on the 5 Freeway.

Police were tipped off by the alarm on Gregorian's electronic ankle bracelet.

Gregorian, a famed defense attorney and frequent guest on "LHL", was arrested three days ago on this very show for the m*rder of Sarah Keaton.

Any idea where he's headed?

No clue.

Question remains... Where is Jake Gregorian going?

Your Honor, let's be clear about Jake Gregorian.

He's an expert in law-enforcement matters, he is single with no children, and he is wealthy with numerous international connections.

If you grant the defendant bail, he will disappear.

Mr. Gregorian.

My client has the utmost respect for the law.

He is eager to go to trial and prove his innocence.

He has strong ties to the community and no criminal record.

He poses no flight risk.

He also slept with his own client's wife, suggesting poor impulse control and a lack of ethical boundaries.

That's not the issue here.

He is capable of behaving irrationally.

Come on! I am being set up!

Mr. Gregorian!

This is a...

Mr. Gregorian, I've seen you instruct your own clients to control their emotions.

Jake, please.

I'm insisting you do the same.

I'm setting bail at $10 million.

In addition, Mr. Gregorian is confined to Los Angeles County and must wear an electronic bracelet with a tracking device.

Your Honor, the financial terms impose a serious hardship.

That's the point... to provide an incentive for his return.

Although, Ms. George...

Yes, Your Honor.

As a reminder, everything that preceded my ruling was off the record and closed to the press.

I understand. I'm here as a private citizen who's concerned for her friend.

Good.

We're adjourned until the preliminary hearing.

[Gavel bangs]

Jake Gregorian remains in custody.

Superior Court will be officially dropping felony m*rder charges against Oscar Keaton.

He would now like to say a few words.

Thank you.

Well, it's, uh... Well, it's good to be free.

I'll never stop grieving for the loss of my wife.

Without the D.A. and his dogged pursuit of the truth, I could've been convicted in his place.

And to Jake Gregorian, there's a special place in hell for a man like you.

Thank you.

That was Oscar Keaton, who was released from custody moments ago.

As for Jake Gregorian, bail was set earlier today.

We will keep you posted on the latest developments.

Man: And we're clear.

[Elevator dings]

How'd you post bail?

Don't worry about it.

You put up the firm's building as collateral, didn't you?

And I emptied out my retirement account.

Bradley.

Hey, if there were a time to go all in, this is it.

We're stopping at the P.D. evidence room.

Good. I want to examine that m*rder w*apon.

I filed a motion as soon as you were arrested.

We're here to review evidence 19-A21, People vs. Jake Gregorian.

Jake, I'm so glad to see you made bail.

I'm sure you are.

You know, Max, I thought you would've sent a lackey to oversee evidence inspection.

[Chuckles] Well, I tend to micromanage.

Delegation is overrated.

Bradley, I want all evidence independently inspected.

I want the search warrant challenged, and I want that Kn*fe suppressed.

Already in the works.

So far, we've been playing defense.

Time for some offense.

Whoever led me to that storage locker is trying to frame me.

Every piece of evidence, every witness statement is back in play.

Let's subpoena security footage from that storage company and interview everyone that works there.

They don't have surveillance. Only two employees.

They've both been cooperative but useless.

Okay, well, then let's get a list of everyone who rents space in the facility.

Sarah's fake passport has the name Claire Gibson.

We assumed this was an alias. What if she's a real person?

We already thought about that.

Ella went by the forger's house this morning.

He's gone.

Gone?

What do you mean "gone"?

His phone number's been disconnected.

A new tenant moved in last week.

Sorry, Jake.

There's got to be a reason he took off.

I'm on it. I'll find him.

Time to call in favors, people. Anyone that owes us, okay?

Cops, clients, ex-cons.

You heard the man. Let's go.

[Telephone beeps]

Yes?

Woman: Mr. Gregorian, there's paparazzi waiting downstairs for you. I thought you should know.

Thanks.

Where the hell do you think you're going?

To make a statement, get ahead of this thing.

Stop. You're a m*rder suspect.

You're delusional if you think you can get them on your side.

Look, Jake, you are the best defense attorney I know, but there's a reason why lawyers don't represent themselves, all right?

Stay here. Let me handle it.

[Phone rings]

Call building security.

Tell them we need an extra guard downstairs and two more up here.

No one comes up without an escort.

Okay, thank you.

No, no, I'm not home, and I'm really, really sorry for the inconvenience.

That was my neighbor. Cops were at the house.

Six squad cars on the street, a news van on the front lawn.

Well, you can't go home. You can't go to my place.

The cameras will be there, too.

I guess I'll just stay here.

Ella, are you gonna get to work, or are you gonna shuffle through papers?

Okay, boss.

Jake, that was not okay, and you're not staying at the office.

Why not? You're just gonna get in everybody's way.

Are you serious?

Dude, you just snapped at Ella!

If the roles were reversed, what would you say to me?

I'd say, "Bradley, you can't be objective right now."

I'd say, "Bradley, I don't want you compromising your own case."

I'd say, "Bradley, we don't want you around."

Exactly.

I'll keep you posted.

Man: Earlier today, police searched the home of m*rder suspect Jake Gregorian, accused k*ller of Sarah Keaton, wife of tech billionaire Oscar Keaton.

Oscar Keaton was the original suspect in Sarah's m*rder.

Although Gregorian has been released on bail and ordered to wear a monitoring bracelet to ensure he stays within county limits... his specific whereabouts are unknown.

Gregorian was last seen earlier today entering...

Hey.

Mind if I stay a while?

You know, it's kind of ironic I'm hiding from the media by staying with the media.

[Chuckles] I'm glad you're here.

How you doing?

Oh, I don't know.

About as well as can be expected for a man facing life in prison or worse.

Jake, when I saw you in the courtroom today as a defendant...

Hey, hey.

It's gonna be okay.

You know, I am starving.

What's for dinner?

Uh, Julia George, when's the last time you shopped for groceries?

You got one egg in here.

[Chuckles] That's what delivery's for.

Come on, I'll get you set up.

So, uh, who's the hot date?

Who says I have a date?

Um, the hair, the dress, the shoes, the va-voom.

Hello? Is it the D.A.?

Wow.

It's the D.A.

Yeah, Jake.

He has something important he wants to discuss.

I bet.

That's not fair.

Julia, Max wants to see me fry, and I just have this feeling that he's gonna offer you maybe, I don't know, exclusive access to him and his team as it relates to Sarah's m*rder and my prosecution.

How would you know that?

Because that's what I would do.

He wants to try me on air before he tries me in court.

I wouldn't do that to you.

I hope you say yes, 'cause at least you'll try to protect me.

Maybe I'll get some insight into the prosecution's strategy.

Okay.

If that's what you want.

[Claps hands] So, where am I sleeping?

I don't want to impose, but I have a really bad back.

It's an old football injury.

Incredibly painful.

I-I really think that your bed would be the best place for me.

You're on the couch.

It's a fold-out, and there's Aspirin in the bathroom.

Have a good night.

Just to be clear, I haven't forgiven you for arresting Jake on my show.

If this is how you hold a grudge, I'll take it.

So, how are you holding up?

I know how, uh... How close you two are.

It's not easy, but, um... he's innocent, so...

There's something I wanted to talk to you about.

The Sarah Keaton case is national news, and I want to make sure that the media has access to me and my team.

So, the thing is, I'm gonna make an exclusive offer to Callie Connors tomorrow.

I didn't want you to be blindsided.

Why her? Why not my show?

Well, for starters, your friendship with Jake.

You're saying I can't be an impartial journalist?

No, I'm not.

Then what's the problem?

Uh... okay, if you want access to me, then I'm all yours, but I am gonna have some ground rules.

For instance, tomorrow, I'd want to put my forensic psychologist on your show.

As long as they have the right credentials and there's a story, no problem.

Okay. Then it's a deal.

Bradley, I found him.

Who?

Axel Knox, the passport forger.

Lil' Paco, a dealer who owes Jake, came through for us.

Axel's sitting in your office.

Axel: When your brother came to my place, I told him everything I knew.

The name on the fake passport is Claire Gibson.

Is that a real person?

Yeah, that's how fake passports work.

The passport buyer has six weeks to use it before the dead person's name is logged in the Social Security death index.

We done?

Not quite.

I want to ask you about your meeting with Sarah Keaton.

Have a seat.

This is a waste of time.

You want me to call Lil' Paco, tell him you were being uncooperative?

How many times did you meet with Sarah?

Just once, when she placed her order a week before she was k*lled.

What time of day was it?

Why does that matter?

Just go with me. I'm helping you remember details.

Around 8:00 at night.

Okay, now, what were you doing when Sarah arrived?

I was setting up the camera to take her photo.

[Camera clicks]

I heard her on her cell.

Brian. Stay away.

Just stay away.

I'm leaving, and you'll never hurt me again.

Thank you.

[Camera shutter clicks]

[Sighs ]

Who's Brian?

No idea.

How did Sarah even find you?

I mean, I'm guessing you don't advertise.

She was referred by a mutual acquaintance.

Her loan shark.

Sarah Keaton had a loan shark?

That's what I said.

That's Sarah's phone log from the day she visited Axel.

She was on her cell at 7:58 p.m.

It was an outgoing phone call that lasted 30 seconds.

We traced that call to a burner phone.

What about the loan shark?

Axel gave us his number. Ella's tracking him down.

What if Brian was the loan shark's enforcer?

Maybe he was threatening her.

Where are you going?

We need access to that burner phone she was calling and try to I.D. Brian.

I got to get to the office.

I'm on it. You need to stay here.

One bad photo can challenge the optics or ruin our narrative.

Do I really sound that annoying?

Yes.

You need to listen to your own advice.

[Sighs]

Man: And in three, two...

This evening, we look deeper into Sarah Keaton, the young woman tragically m*rder*d three weeks ago.

We know she was the beautiful wife of a billionaire, but we want to know more.

We welcome esteemed forensic psychologist Dr. Kent Govner.

Dr. Govner, you knew Sarah personally.

Isn't that right?

I served on a charity board with Ms. Keaton, and as her colleague, I found her bright and thoughtful.

But as a psychologist, she fit the profile of a woman with borderline personality disorder.

Can you elaborate?

Borderline personalities often present as passionate, fun-loving, and seductive.

And they often form unstable relationships.

What kind of man would be attracted to a woman like Sarah?

Well, men who enjoy drama and passion.

They often have a savior complex.

A man like Jake Gregorian?

From what I know, he seems to be a man who likes to live large, so, yes, I believe that he would enjoy the unpredictability of a borderline woman.

Now, people with BPD engage in impulsive and...

This is going well.

None of his testimony will be admissible in court.

Well, right now I'm only interested in the court of public opinion.

...relationships can get obsessed and do...

Louise, ask him if he's ever met Jake.

Have you interviewed Jake Gregorian personally?

Well, no, I've not.

So, this is all just speculation.

You've described the type of man who'd be attracted to a borderline woman.

Wouldn't that description also apply to Oscar Keaton?

Julia, this is A.D.A. Joy Brant.

She's here for Max, said it was important.

Okay.

So, what's the cause...

It's all here. Authenticated by the crime lab.

Great, thanks.

I want you to play this on the air right now.

This hasn't been vetted by my team.

It's been authenticated by mine.

It's a recording of an emergency call from 2002.

Here's the transcript.

This is news, it's public record, and believe me, someone is gonna have this on the air within the hour.

Charlotte, load this tape.

Uh...

Borderline personalities can also have intense fear, even going to extreme measures...

Louise, check your pocket screen.

...real or imagined separation.

Dr. Govner, thank you for your insight.

We've just received exclusive access to a 911 phone call from 2002.

The call is from a woman whose identity is not being released in order to protect her privacy.

Let's play it.

911. State your emergency.

Woman: [Crying] Please, you have to help me.

He's crazy. He's trying to get in.

[Pounding on door]

Man: Open the door!

Who's trying to get in?

I'm scared!

Damn it! Open it now!

Help is on the way.

Ma'am, do you know the person who is trying to get in?

Woman: Jake! Jake Gregorian!

Please help me!

And we'll be right back.

[Sighs]

[Door closes]

I tried to call you after the show.

I thought it'd be better to talk in person.

I wanted to try and explain that 911 call to you.

That, uh... that was my... my ex-girlfriend.

Her name's Carmen.

We dated for about three months before I broke it off.

She was... not happy, to say the least.

And the night of that call... she'd slashed my tires, wrote a note saying she was gonna k*ll herself.

And so I went to her apartment to stop her.

That should've all been in the police report, which your boyfriend would've had.

What happened to Carmen?

That night? I-I don't know.

She was angry. She was trying to get me arrested.

Police wouldn't let me talk to her.

But today, she's happily married, three kids.

I can set the record straight.

The D.A.'s trying to get a reaction out of me, Julia.

It's to my advantage to lay low.

If he plays that recording in court, I let the truth bolster my defense.

All right, here's the address for Sarah's loan shark.

[Car doors close]

We're here to see Donnie. He's expecting us.

We were referred by Axel Knox.

Only her.

Oh, hell no.

Donnie only allows one visitor at a time, and he wants the lady.

I'll be fine.

Ella...

I can handle it.

[Siren wails in distance]

[Door closes]

I don't like lawyers.

I'm only meeting with you so you'll stop calling me.

Axel should never have given you my number.

I'm interested in one of your clients.

I've been doing business a long time because I'm discreet.

Clients trust me.

I'd rather do time than be a snitch.

Well, I'm glad you're okay with prison, because that's where you'll be going when I report this operation and your connection to Sarah Keaton's m*rder.

My boss is outside, and the entire law firm knows we're here.

They'll call the cops if we're not back in an hour.

Sarah Keaton was paying me $10,000 a month.

And I'm only sharing this with you 'cause she wasn't a client.

She was paying her brother's gambling debts.

Alan?

That's right.

And I have no loyalty to deadbeats.

One more thing.

Does someone named Brian work for you?

No.

Did she mention anybody named Brian?

No, and unless you want to take your shirt off, we're done talking.

We're done talking.

[Doorbell rings]

Jake? Where's Julia?

I wouldn't worry about that, Alan.

I'm gonna need you to tell me everything about your gambling right now, or I'm gonna call your loan shark Donnie and tell him that you just ratted him out to the cops.

Come on in.

This is none of your business.

I used to go to the Silverlight Casino in Prim for the sports book.

I got in way over my head.

I borrowed money from Donnie, couldn't pay him back.

I was desperate, and I called Sarah for help.

Now that she's gone, I-I don't know what I'll do.

Alan, you exposed Sarah to a whole world of dangerous people.

No.

I'm not gonna let you blame me for what happened to her, Jake.

You've been pointing every which way trying to create distraction, but the cops are saying you did it!

And I believe them.

Don't call me again.

[Knock on door]

Come in!

Thanks for coming by.

You said it was important.

The 911 call was made by Jake's ex-girlfriend.

He went to her apartment to try to save her life.

You're trying to railroad my friend and I don't like it.

You're trying to make a name for yourself by pinning Sarah Keaton's m*rder on a famous defense attorney, which would be the conviction of the decade.

Crowning achievement.

Next stop, mayor.

Are you finished?

No.

Our agreement is off, and you can take your dog and pony show to some other news producer.

Julia...

I say the show always comes first, but there is a line, and last night I crossed it.

Jake is innocent, and I'm not gonna help you curate a guilty verdict.

Last night, a passport forger by the name of Axel Knox was picked up on a DUI.

He made a deal by saying he had information on Sarah Keaton's m*rder, that she had bought a fake passport from him.

Now, evidently, Jake withheld that information.

I know all about that.

Jake didn't tell the police because it would look like Sarah was trying to leave her husband, which would give Oscar a motive for m*rder.

Jake is just protecting his client.

That isn't illegal.

Julia, I know you think I have ulterior motives, but I honestly believe that Jake k*lled Sarah.

Max, listen to me...

No, you need to hear me.

Jake slept with Sarah the night before she was k*lled.

He was so obsessed with her that he ignored the ethical ramifications of her own husband being his client.

A storage locker in his name was where they found the m*rder w*apon.

Jake visited that locker of his own volition, and he hid the information about the phony passport because the truth is Sarah wanted to leave Jake, and that was his motive for k*lling her.

I'm sure you wanted some insight into my strategy.

There it is.
Bradley.

Hey, I'm headed to the courthouse.

The cell provider won't turn over records for the burner phone, so I'm gonna try for a warrant.

Good. Bradley, stop.

I've been reviewing Sarah's financials.

She paid Alan's loan shark $10,000 for the past six months through a sham account, which is why we never noticed it before.

Okay.

There was nothing else related to Alan.

But last month, she wired $100,000 to a bank account owned by a Brian Farringdon in San Diego.

This could be the Brian we're looking for.

I mean, for all we know, he could've k*lled Sarah.

Exactly.

Good work. Go call Jake.

It was just the one-time payment?

Yeah, as far as I can tell.

Any notation for what it was for?

No.

But just like the payments to Alan's loan shark, it came from that sham account.

He was a Marine.

Yeah, I looked up his m*llitary history.

Two tours in Iraq, 2nd Division.

His nickname was "Bloody Ripper" for all his kills.

Unbelievable.

What's his job now?

He works as a consultant for GreyStrike, a private security firm.

Do me a favor.

Get me this guy's address in San Diego.

Okay. But you're not going there, right?

It's outside of the county.

No, I wouldn't dream of it.

Hey, I need your help.

Can you meet me in the alley at the intersection of Gower and Third?

Bring a screwdriver and some pliers.

Thanks.

[Keyboard clacking]

Julia. Is Jake staying at your house?

A P.A. dropped a news packet off at your place and saw him through the window.

What if he is?

Is that a good idea?

Honey, I get that you care about him, but you produce the news.

You need to look impartial.

Jake is one of my closest friends.

He didn't k*ll Sarah, and I need your support.

[Cellphone vibrating]

Max.

Julia, where's Jake going?

What are you talking about?

His ankle bracelet's been triggered.

He's in an SUV on the 5 heading south.

Is he on the run?

I have no idea.

I have to go.

We need the helicopter.

Louise, get ready to go live.

Louise: At least a dozen police cars are now in pursuit of Jake Gregorian's vehicle.

Traffic is being diverted from the 5 Freeway.

And now the SUV is exiting the Hillmont off ramp.

Gregorian is heading east and shows no signs of stopping.

We can only guess whether he has a specific plan or if these are just the erratic moves of a fugitive.

[Tires screech, sirens wail]

And now the SUV has come to a stop.

It's the warehouse district of Orange Avenue.

I'm hearing from my producer that this is the warehouse district on Orange Avenue.

And there's still no movement from the SUV.

Wait, it looks like the driver's door is opening.

Someone's getting out.

[g*ns cocking]

Cop: Walk backwards with your hands on your head!

Get down!

That's Jake's brother Bradley.

It appears to be Bradley Gregorian, Jake's brother.

Up. Someone else in the car.

Cop #2: Check the hands! Check the hands!

Keep your hands where I can see them.

Drop what's in your hand!

Now someone's coming out of the back seat.

It's a young woman, and she's holding something.

Cop: Check the car. Check the car. Move up.

Clear.

Clear.

No one else appears to be in the car.

There's no sign of Jake Gregorian.

[Engine turns off]

[Doorbell rings, children scream playfully in distance]

Can I help you?

Hi. Uh, I'm Jake... Jansen.

Uh, I'm looking for Brian.

You look familiar. Do I know you?

Yes, we, uh... we met at, uh, John Stein's wedding.

You'd had a few to drink.

Cosmos, as I recall?

Yes, Jake. [Chuckling] Of course.

Nice to see you again.

Yeah.

Um, yeah, Brian said I should stop by if I was ever in the area. I tried calling his cell, but, uh, think I have the wrong number.

He's on his way home from work.

Oh.

Bye, Zoey.

Bye, guys.

See you at school tomorrow.

Take care.

Hi, Mom.

Hi, angel.

Who's this?

This is our daughter, Zoey.

Hi, Zoey. I'm Jake.

Hi.

Uh, well, if you don't mind, I guess I'll just wait in my car if you don't think he'll be long.

Sure.

It's hot out.

Do you want to come in for some lemonade?

[Chuckles] Yeah.

You know, Zoey, soccer's my favorite sport.

Soccer's okay.

My favorite sport's gymnastics, though.

What about swimming? I thought that was your favorite.

That was like six months ago, Mom.

[Chuckles]

I'm gonna go play outside.

Okay.

Nice meeting you.

Nice meeting you, Zoey.

So, Jake, what sort of business are you in?

I do security consulting.

Really? So does Brian.

I know.

I'm trying to start my own company.

I was hoping for some free advice.

[Door opens]

Brian, get in here!

[Door closes]

This is Jake Jansen.

Uh, we met at John's wedding.

If you say so.

I, uh,... I'm trying to start my own firm.

I was hoping I could pick your brain for a bit?

[Chuckles] Come into my office.

We'll grab a drink.

All right.

Brian: John's wedding was something, huh?

You know he still doesn't talk to his sister because of her toast?

Oh, that was rough.

Anyway, what's your poison? I got a full bar.

Oh, I'm easy. Whatever you're having.

I know who you are.

Now, what the hell are you doing here?

Listen, I am not here trying to cause any problems.

I'm just trying to figure out how you knew Sarah Keaton.

I don't.

Last month she paid you 100 grand.

That's none of your concern.

Look, Brian, I'm an unarmed man.

I'm just here trying to figure out what really happened to a woman I loved very much.

Right now the entire L.A. police force is out looking for me.

I risked everything to come here because I-I think you have answers.

Please, I need your help.

That money wasn't for me. It was for Zoey.

Zoey's Sarah's biological child.

We adopted her.

[Scoffs]

I'm sorry, but I was told that Sarah's child d*ed.

Obviously you were misinformed.

Sarah found us through an agency.

I didn't know who she was until a month ago when she called me and said she wanted to make sure Zoey had money for college.

I didn't want it, but she insisted.

I didn't even tell my wife because I knew it would upset her since it was supposed to be a closed adoption.

Honey, can you give us a second?

I know why you looked familiar.

You're Jake Gregorian.

The police are on their way.

Jake fled the Farringdon home before the police arrived, but a BOLO's been issued.

Okay, put out a no-bail warrant.

Have a detective debrief the Farringdons.

I want to know exactly what Jake was doing there.

Any luck with his brother and Ella Benjamin?

No, they're refusing to talk.

[Cellphone vibrates]

Julia, hi.

I just spoke to Jake.

Julia, if you're helping him, it's aiding and abetting a fugitive.

I can help you find him.

I can even help you bring him in.

On one condition.

I'm listening.

Thanks for meeting me.

Clandestine rendezvous in a dark garage?

How could I resist?

Max agreed to keep it all quiet?

Yeah. You'll be taken into custody at the courthouse.

No press.

Okay.

Julia, I need to ask you to do one more thing for me.

Could you test the DNA on this straw and run it against mine?

Why?

Sarah had a daughter.

Alan told me that the baby d*ed.

I... I know this sounds crazy...

I think he lied to me because he doesn't want me to know that, um, I'm the father.

How old is the girl?

Mm, this tall.

Very cute.

Wow.

You're dealing with a lot.

You ready to do this?

Let's go.

Max.

Jake.

It's a beautiful night, isn't it?

It certainly is.

[Police radio chatter]

[Alarm buzzes]

I wasn't prepared to see you like this.

You have the DNA results, Julia?

Yeah.

A friend at a private lab rushed them through.

You're not the father.

[Sighs]

But we do know who is.

There is a, uh... particular shadow DNA sequence that can only mean one thing.

Jake, this isn't gonna be easy to hear.

The father is Sarah's brother.

Alan?

No. Are you sure?

Yeah.

I got Zoey's birth certificate, and according to her age, Sarah would've been 17 and Alan 24 at the time of conception.

I did a hospital search to find more details about the baby.

Nothing, but when I searched Sarah's name, it came up at St. Michael's nine months before the baby was born.

One broken arm, two broken ribs.

He r*ped her?

He b*at up and r*ped his own sister.

That would explain the estrangement.

Then why would she pay Alan's gambling debts?

[Sighs]

The passport forger.

He said that Sarah was on the phone when they met.

He said that she was upset.

We thought that she was telling Brian to stay away from her, but maybe she was telling Alan to stay away from Brian.

Maybe Alan was threatening to tell Brian about Zoey.

His adopted daughter was a product of incest.

Knowing Sarah, she would do anything to protect a secret like that.

So she paid Alan's gambling debts to keep him quiet, to protect Zoey.

We'll need to prove she was talking to Alan on that call.

We need proof it was Alan's burner phone.

I know who could help.

Julia, this is crazy. Do you even have this burner phone?

We don't need the phone. We just need the records.

It's all conjecture.

No. Alan r*ped his sister.

He lied to Jake about the baby.

Sarah was paying his debts. None of that is conjecture.

You laid out your case to me.

Now I'm laying out my case to you.

Thanks so much for coming down last minute.

Whatever it takes to make Jake Gregorian pay for what he did.

Thank God he's back in custody.

Hi, Alan. I'm District Attorney Max Gilford.

What's going on?

I'll cut to the chase.

We recently connected you to a burner phone proving that Sarah called you a few days before she was k*lled.

Burner phone?

You see, we had a theory that you were blackmailing Sarah.

Burner phones are the same as regular phones.

They have voicemail, which is retained for 60 days by the service provider.

Sarah: I'm done paying your debts. Six months.

That's what you said.

And you better stay away from...

[Exhales shakily] Brian.

Stay away. Just stay away!

I'm leaving, and you'll never hurt me again.

Other calls from that phone include one made to Sun Valley Self-Storage, where you hid the m*rder w*apon.

I'm leaving.

Mr. Wells, if you come with us voluntarily, things will be much easier for you.

Sorry for bashing you in the press conference.

I understand if you're angry at me.

It's all right.

[Sighs]

Something's been bothering me in the back of my mind.

It's been keeping me up at night.

What's that?

The day Sarah was m*rder*d, you told me that she called you.

Sarah called me. She told me to come over here.

Just... get over here, okay? Now.

And I just... for the life of me can't figure out why she would've done that.

I mean, you guys were having marital problems.

What's your point?

Well, my point is that Sarah never called you.

But someone did. Her brother.

Just today, the D.A. identified his burner phone and tracked his calls.

Why would Alan call me? I haven't seen him in years.

I think you saw him about a month ago, didn't you?

Silverlight Casino.

I found a credit-card receipt in your file.

I needed to get away, but I didn't see Alan.

Oscar, you're a billionaire.

You don't get away to the Silverlight.

You get away to Bora Bora.

On the other hand, Alan was a fan of their sports book.

Turns out he was there that same night.

Some coincidence.

Some coincidence.

Alan needed money.

Now, Sarah had been paying his debts, but when she finally cut him off, logically, he turned to you.

You see, Alan knew something about your wife...

Something he could use to his advantage.

So he told you that Sarah was really leaving you and he had proof.

Just stay away!

I'm leaving, and you'll never hurt me again.

He knew about the fake passport, and you're not the kind of man who appreciates surprises like that, so... when Alan proposed a solution, you agreed.

And that is why Alan called you the afternoon Sarah was m*rder*d...

To tell you that the job had been done.

Oscar: Jake!

She's dead.

That's how you knew to be at the house.

And that's when you called me.

Now, that's not true, Jake.

And even if it were, anything you saw or heard when you represented me is protected under attorney-client privilege.

There's no money trail.

There's nothing.

Jake... you did a great job.

No matter what anyone else says, you're worth every penny.

[Sighs]

It's not enough.

Even if we put them together at the casino, we can't prove the content of their conversation.

What about Oscar's bank accounts?

We've been looking into his accounts ever since he was arrested. The guy covers his tracks.

There is nothing connecting him and Alan.

And even if Alan were to talk, he's a k*ller and a r*pist, so the jury will find him unreliable.

I can't file charges without some hard evidence.

Looks like Oscar wins, huh?

[Phone rings]

Bradley: Hey, Jake.

Brad, what happened to the cocaine we pulled out of Oscar Keaton's i8?

It's in a safe place.

Mm. Where's the i8 now?

Well, last I checked, still in impound.

Only a billionaire wouldn't rush to get a car like that back.

I don't know.

Maybe I'm just mourning the path not taken.

You mean life with Sarah?
