GHOST: Previously on Power I'll deliver Julio to you, and you take him out.

[grunting]

Blood in, blood out.

[screaming]

All of the members of this prosecution will be suspended pending an investigation.

I gave Tasha an awful lot of money.

Tasha took money from you?

Why wouldn't you talk to me first?

You left me with no other choice.

I told you I would be in touch.

You've been out long enough to put that phone in Tommy Egan's hands.

We are expanding.

We'd like to see if you can run both coasts.

Couldn't get rid of me that easy, m*therf*cker.

You gonna do exactly what I tell you to do or Tariq is dead.

What I gotta do to get my son back, man?

Money goes in the bag, Marcus.

Now the question is, should he watch you die or the other way around?

- Dad.

- Back the f*ck up!

[dramatic music]

JOE: They say this is a big, rich town I just come from the poorest part Bright lights, city life I gotta make it, this is where it goes down I just happen to come up hard Legal or illegal, baby, I gotta make it 50 CENT: I never took a straight path nowhere Life's full of twists and turns, bumps and bruises I live, I learn I'm from that city full of yellow cabs and skyscrapers It's hard to get a start in these parts without paper Homey, I grew up in hell, a block away from heaven That corner every 15 minutes, they moving seven Pure snow, bag it, then watch it go Occupational options, get some blow or some hos sh**t the ball or the strap, learn to rap or to jack f*ck it, man, in the meantime Go head and pump a pack This my regal, royal flow, my James Bond bounce That 007, that's 62 on my count I'm an undercover liar, I lie under the covers Look a bitch in the eyes and tell her, baby, I love ya You're my inspiration, you're my motivation You're the reason that I'm moving with no hesitation JOE: They say this is a big, rich town Yeah, I just come from the poorest part Bright lights, city life I gotta make it, this is where it goes down Legal or illegal, baby, I gotta make it [solemn music]

[distant vehicle honking]

Grim, what the f*ck happened?

We was robbed, man.

It was Ghost.

Ghost?

He was with that dude, Kanan.

Kanan is still alive?

[groaning]

They k*lled Marcus.

- f*ck!

- [phone vibrates]

Yo, boss, your phone's buzzin' again.

[tense music]

Yo, what the f*ck, Ghost?

- GHOST: Tommy, just listen - I get back to the spot.

Grimace is all GHOST: Tommy, shut the f*ck up and listen.

Tariq's in trouble, all right?

Yeah, all right.

Where you at?

GHOST: Meet us at Hoyt and 3rd.

Grimace, stay here.

[tires squeal]

'Riq.

You okay?

Oh, hey, hey, hey.

What happened?

What happened to him?

Hey, it's okay.

It's okay, all right?

We need to f*ckin' talk.

Go warm up in the car.

I gotta talk to your uncle.

I don't f*ckin' understand.

- You said you set Kanan on fire.

- I did.

How the f*ck is he still alive?

Half of him is f*ckin' b*rned, Tommy, okay?

Scarred.

His face, his chest, his arms.

Arms?

Holy sh*t, Tasha was right.

GHOST: What's Tasha gotta do with this?

TOMMY: The night that you got locked up - and Tariq went missing.

- GHOST: Yeah, okay.

She didn't tell you?

Tasha got a ransom demand.

The picture had Tariq all passed out with this big ass, crispy arm around him.

Tasha asked me if it could be Kanan, but then Tariq showed up safe and sound.

He said it was a f*ckin' joke.

f*ck!

Look, Tariq lied to you.

Kanan's got his mind all f*ckin' twisted out.

And remember Jukebox?

Yeah, that f*ckin' crazy bitch.

That one.

She kidnapped him.

So Kanan f*ckin' sh**t her to save Tariq's life.

Ghost, this story is so f*ckin' weird.

If you were anybody the f*ck else, for any other f*ckin' reason, you'd be dead right now.

I know.

[sighs]

Come on, I guess you guys need a ride.

Yo, 'Riq.

Tariq, let me ask you something.

Did Dre know that Kanan was alive?

Did Dre see you and Kanan together?

Or was he telling the truth, that he picked you up on some corner the night your dad was arrested?

Slim I mean, Kanan, he stayed outta sight.

Dre didn't know, and I didn't tell him.

[dark music]

MAK: Thanks for coming in.

Main Justice has decided to continue your suspensions while reviewing your individual involvement in the St.

Patrick dismissal before deciding on official disciplinary action.

But I think you all are gonna get f*ckin' fired.

So I suggest you polish up your resumes.

Valdes torpedoed us, plain and simple.

- I still have other active cases.

- Not anymore, you don't.

This is bullshit.

You deserve a suspension as much as the rest of us.

You were the captain of this team, remember?

Well, I argued that, as the newcomer, I lacked the institutional knowledge to avoid the pitfalls that damaged the prosecution.

MIKE: What's the status on St.

Patrick's case, since it was dismissed without prejudice?

We have a dead FBI agent and no conviction.

Department wants justice.

Even if Greg was the mole.

But I'm gonna get a collar for Knox and get this stain off my record for good.

The three of you, don't even think about it.

Your log-ins are dead.

You have no access to the database.

You are civilians now.

And don't do anything stupid and try to get your jobs back.

I'm gonna solve this case.

You guys should start considering the private sector.

Hey, anyone need their parking validated?

No?

[elevator dings]

- Where the hell have y'all been?

- Tash No, I wanna know where y'all been all night out of his mouth.

And don't you dare lie to us, boy.

- You lied to me!

- Son.

Excuse me?

When I asked you about Shawn, you lied straight to my face.

Shawn?

What the hell are you talkin' about?

Tasha, he was with Kanan, okay?

Kanan kidnapped Tariq.

And apparently it ain't the first time.

[tense music]

So Slim was Kanan this whole time?

Go shower up, son.

And give me your clothes when you're done.

I knew it.

Tasha, where are the girls?

Tasha, where the girls?

In their rooms.

[sighs]

Look, okay, I I never got a chance to tell you what's been going on with What's been going on?

What's been going on is you letting Tariq run with Kanan.

I did the best I could.

Okay, he lies all the time now.

I asked him about Kanan after the night he went missing.

- And he - You had one job, Tasha.

One job?

I was dealing with your lying son, on top of scraping together money for your bail and playing wifey in court while your oblivious ass was sitting around in prison because Proctor didn't want you stressed out.

- What the f*ck?

- Okay, okay.

So it's It's easy to be locked up?

For something you didn't even do?

That's right, you were innocent.

But please remind me again why you got arrested.

- For protecting Tommy.

- Wrong!

You got arrested because you dipped your d*ck in that Fed bitch.

Give me a break.

This ain't got sh*t to do with Angela.

Oh, it doesn't?

Are you f*cking kidding me?

Tariq used to be a good kid, Ghost.

Then he started talking back, stealing g*ns, and lying when you decided to leave this family for her.

I didn't leave our family.

I left you.

TASHA: Right.

You left me.

Because our life together was real.

And with Angela, you could pretend to be something you never were.

Come on, Tasha, let's just cut the sh*t, all right?

This doesn't have anything to do with you, nor me.

It's about Tariq and motherfuckin' Kanan!

Well, we wouldn't be talking about m*therf*cking Kanan if you k*lled him ten years ago, like I told you to.

GHOST: Yeah, you right.

I was supposed to k*ll him ten years ago like you told me to, and I didn't.

You happy now, huh?

[soft knocking]

Hey, sweetie.

Um you all ready for school?

Uh-huh.

Um, Cesar's calling from downstairs.

Okay.

- Um - Is Dad in here?

I'm in here, baby girl.

- Daddy!

- Hey, baby girl.

Oh, I missed you so much.

I missed you, too.

Let me see that face.

Now that's a face.

Raina, your dad and I are just finishing up a discussion.

Okay, um, Cesar says there's a man here to see Daddy.

He's coming up.

GHOST: All right, well, I'll be right there.

Good morning.

- Good morning.

- Good morning.

Simon, uh, you're a surprise.

What do we owe the pleasure?

James, this was already on the books.

I told you I'd be bringing the team by to discuss your image makeover.

Yes.

Mrs. St. Patrick, you have a lovely home.

However, we will have to do some redecorating for the interview.

Interview?

We've landed James an on-camera interview with Olivia Gorman.

It will air during prime time.

You will be on the radar of every politician and tastemaker in New York City.

It's the perfect platform to help reassert his innocence and launch our real estate deal.

Mrs. St. Patrick, we'll need you and the kids to participate in the interview as well.

Oh, I'm sorry, but that's completely out of the question.

My kids have already dealt with paparazzi at school.

I'm not putting them in front of a camera.

James, if we miss this window of opportunity, it might never happen again.

This is an opportunity to make a fresh start, to tell the world who you really are An innocent, upstanding family and businessman who is ready for the next chapter of his life.

Listen, Tasha, this is for our our family.

- You know, it's for our future.

- James, I can't Simon, my kids will be ready, as will my wife.

Excellent.

Yo, 'sup, Dre?

What's up, dog?

Yo, how long you known Kanan was alive and in New York?

Kanan's alive?

Don't play stupid with me, Dre.

Him and Jukebox picked up Tariq yesterday.

They almost k*lled the kid.

Yo, who the f*ck is Jukebox?

I don't know what you're talkin' about, Tommy.

Look, is Tariq all right?

Oh, yeah, he's fine, no thanks to you.

I didn't know about Kanan.

[tense music]

Is Tariq saying I did?

No, he is not.

Cool, look, 'cause if Kanan's back, he's gonna come lookin' for me.

We got another problem, man.

That's why I wanted you to meet me out here.

That's Julio's car right there.

I been callin' him.

I haven't heard back in 24 hours.

Yeah, I haven't had my phone on me.

He tried me, too.

Yeah, he was supposed to meet a new primera in this warehouse right here.

- TOMMY: What new primera?

- DRE: He didn't tell me.

- DRE: f*ck.

- TOMMY: sh*t.

Julio!

f*ck!

Julio.

Yo, J.

f*ck!

Looks like the Toros Locos finally caught up with him and disrespected me and Ghost.

What does Ghost have to do with this?

Ghost made a deal to keep Julio safe.

Now that Ghost out the game, looks like the Toros Locos are sending a message that they ain't scared of just me.

[chuckles]

Well, they just f*cked up big time.

I mean, so Tommy, what you, uh what you gonna do about a distro, man?

Really, Dre?

The body ain't even cold yet.

Look, man, Julio knew the risk when he got into this life.

Now he's gone.

All right, so do you want to take an ad out on Craigslist or promote me?

I wanna meet with Uriel.

Set it up.

Put Julio somewhere nice.

You got the job, kid.

I win, m*therf*cker.

He is such an assh*le.

Such a f*cking assh*le.

[speaking Spanish]

[chuckling]

Oh.

Look, I don't know what you said, but this sh*t isn't very funny to me.

I worked hard to get here, and I'm not gonna lose my job because of you, Angela.

St.

Patrick is the k*ller.

He only walked on techs, and I still intend to win a case against him.

We all want a conviction here, Saxe.

But unless you find evidence linking the m*rder w*apon to St.

Patrick, you're not gonna convict him.

James St.

Patrick didn't hide that g*n.

That g*n is the key to this whole case.

SAXE: Well, you're not wrong there.

I'll figure out a way to pin it on him.

Then I'm gonna make my bones taking you down with him.

Okay, look, I know it hurts losing Julito, but now is not the time to respond, Tommy.

You respond now, you set off a chain reaction.

That that draws attention to us.

You've been out for five minutes.

You don't even ask me what I'm doing to do.

You just tell me what to do?

Look, no offense meant, brother, but I got a case to b*at here, okay?

One that affects you, too.

Look, Angela's move may have gotten me released, but this sh*t ain't over.

I'm just trying to make the calls that keep us both safe.

Like the call you made when you didn't tell me that Ruiz was wearin' a wire?

You know, the night I k*lled him?

Yeah, I know.

Proctor told me that you broke into that FBI agent's apartment to try to get the tape back.

I didn't get it back.

I know, I did.

But not before I heard every blessed detail.

From Milan to stabby-stabby.

So who had it, huh?

Who got it?

Proctor?

He played it for you?

Ghost, there was a tape.

I took care of it.

That's all you need to know.

For now, I got some business to take care of with those Toros Locos, all right?

[tense music]

Have you ever heard of a man named Kanan?

No.

Good.

Well, he's tall.

He's brown-skinned.

He's got a lot of burn scars on him.

So if you ever see him, you need to stay far away from him, okay?

He's very dangerous.

Is that what you and Dad were fighting about earlier?

No, that's nothing you need to worry about.

I promise.

What's wrong, baby girl?

Stop calling me that.

Stop treating me like a damn baby.

- Raina.

- What?

I know something's going on around here, and no one tells me anything.

Who is this Kanan and why is he so dangerous?

What were you and Dad fighting about?

And what's going on with Tariq?

Where was he?

Where was Daddy?

I'm waiting.

Okay.

Sit down.

Tariq fell in with a bad crowd, okay?

And he got in over his head.

Was Kanan part of that crowd?

Yes, he was.

Now, Tariq is gonna be fine, but he's gonna need all of us to watch out for him.

So the next time he decides to sneak out, I need you to tell me, all right?

[gentle music]

- Okay.

- All right.

[sighs]

Listen, it feels good to know I can depend on you.

All right?

[sighs]

Mike has an interesting theory about the Knox case.

He ran it by me, and I think you should hear him out.

I keep thinking about our search of Truth.

Saxe and I were both there, remember?

Our case against St.

Patrick was thin at best.

Donovan heads upstairs and boom, we're off to the races with a m*rder one indictment.

What if Greg's m*rder*r has been sitting right beside us this whole time?

Proctor got in your head, huh, Mike?

Proctor may be corrupt, but he wasn't wrong.

Donovan found Greg's body.

He signed the arrest warrant for St.

Patrick.

And he found the m*rder w*apon at Truth.

All of which is his job.

We're cut off from department resources.

You're not.

All we're asking you is to check it out.

If Donovan's clear, no big deal.

If he's not Then we found our mole and we've redeemed ourselves.

Exactly.

[distant vehicle honking]

St.

Patrick k*lled Greg, Angela.

So he didn't hide the g*n.

He had someone else do it.

Probably that kid that works for him, Andre Coleman.

It's their camera, their surveillance video.

They probably altered the tape just in case we asked for it.

How?

When would they have had time?

Jerry, face it, the g*n wasn't there before our people arrived.

Who else was there?

Me, Mike Sandoval, Cooper Saxe.

A bunch of windbreakers, low-level guys.

Who knew you were turning off the surveillance?

I've watched the tapes from the office, but what about the other cameras?

For the dance floor?

The VIP area?

Whoever planted the g*n had to go upstairs.

I'm on suspension, Jerry, but from desk duty you could look.

[scoffs]

Even discussing this with you could have me lose that desk job.

I support a whole family on my check, all right?

So do I.

But Greg's k*ller is still out there.

Enjoy your lunch.

[dramatic music]

The interview is a bad idea, period.

Yes, they dismissed the charges against James, but there's no guarantee they won't try again.

He's already made up his mind.

I can't stop him.

- Well - I don't have to do it, though.

Actually, you do.

If they do re-indict, the jury pool, the public, it's all still relevant.

If he is going to do the interview, it has to be letter perfect.

You're a part of the image.

Part of the redemption story.

- Mm.

- You'll be there to course-correct, if he says something wrong.

Well, you'll have his back if it comes to that.

[sighs]

I don't want to represent your husband anymore, Tasha.

But we need you.

I need you.

Then I will be there.

[solemn music]

But not for him.

For you.

Good.

GHOST: Joe, is there a reason that you didn't tell me that Ruiz's wire tap surfaced?

And you certainly didn't f*ckin' tell me that Tommy heard it.

He ambushed me, man.

I didn't tell you because we handled it as soon as it came up.

Jesus.

So what about this This Homeland guy, Bailey?

I mean, I'm assuming he had it, he heard it.

How do you know he's gonna keep his mouth shut?

James, Tommy wasted the guy in my apartment.

You're telling me Tommy sh*t a f*ckin' Homeland Security agent?

No, stabbed.

Man, Tommy's a f*cking psycho.

You think I tell him what to do?

He's the real thr*at here.

Where's the tape now, Joe?

It's it's destroyed.

It's destroyed.

[tense music]

Have your apartment professionally cleaned.

I did.

Do it again.

And again, Joe.

[grunts]

This fool acted alone.

He seen Julio's tattoo, didn't know Julio was protected.

Look, we both know Julio shoulda had that sh*t removed.

That was part of the deal.

Oh, yeah?

Let's see what he got to say about it.

[groaning, speaking Spanish]

That don't sound good.

What's he sayin'?

Begging for his life.

Yeah, J was a tough m*therf*cker.

You tellin' me this pup took out Julio all by hisself?

And cut off the tattoo.

To make it right, we wanted to offer the k*ll to you.

Oh.

Oh, well that was nice.

[suspenseful music]

Wait, wait, wait, wait, don't sh**t, don't sh**t.

This m*therf*cker was a lone wolf.

Tommy, he's voluntarily bringing you one of his own, dog.

Chill!

You think bringin' me a scrub like this is gonna make up for me losing my distro?

I want the territory we gave you for Julio.

I can't do it without approval from upstairs.

Who, the Jimenez?

I'll talk to 'em.

They're f*ckin' crazy, man.

They're butchers.

I don't think Or I could just sh**t you in the face right now, and they'll come lookin' for me.

Either way, I'ma meet 'em.

Only difference is whether you alive or you dead.

I'll set it up.

You said the sacrifice would work.

You said you was gonna k*ll Julio without signing your f*ckin' name on it.

So I guess we both f*cked up.

Look, man, if this starts a w*r, Uriel we both gonna lose, man.

[light orchestral music]

DIEGO: Mason.

Uh, uh, Diego, Alicia, I didn't know you guys were, um Uh, come in.

Didn't want to announce ourselves.

Well, please Please, have a seat.

- You having a party?

- No, no, man.

- That my coke?

- There's no coke.

- Is that my coke?

- There's no coke!

[screams]

Diego, what the f*ck, man?

Let me go!

Let me go!

[wailing]

So our guy in narcotics tells us they got a call from a potential informant.

- What?

- Yeah.

That can't be.

DIEGO: No.

And there it is.

That's your rat.

A good manager gives her employees exactly what they've earned, and since you've been more concerned about snorting than helping us sell it Snort it.

Or we'll k*ll your wife and child.

We don't blame her.

We blame you.

[music rises]

[sobs]

[Celeste sobs, whimpers]

No!

[sobs]

[baby cries]

CELESTE: No!

No!

[whimpering]

Stay away from my baby!

[groans]

[speaking Spanish]

What was that?

Huh, what was that?

You got five minutes.

Look, I want to know how it's coming with Donovan.

If Donovan is the mole, that opens Bailey Markham up again as a potential witness.

What do you know about him?

Markham?

Nothing.

[scoffs]

You met with him.

Yep, right before you did.

In Red Hook.

You did a trap and trace on my phone?

I did a trap and trace on his.

I didn't want to sift through all those escort service numbers on yours.

Oh, I don't use my phone for that.

It's all online now.

Why did you meet with Markham, Saxe?

He said he had evidence against Egan and St.

Patrick, and I wanted to follow up with him.

Why?

How do I know that your interest in Bailey's evidence wasn't for your own self-preservation?

Is that why you're throwing Donovan under the bus?

Donovan wasn't my idea.

It was Mike's.

I reached out to Bailey.

When he gets back to me, we'll get into the true nature of your meeting with him.

For now, Saxe, stay in the city, huh?

OLIVIA: James, do you Do you think your race or background played any factor in their decision to prosecute you?

No, I don't think about that, Olivia.

Um, I actually have a tremendous amount of faith in our in our legal system.

Um, I can't speak on the factors that pointed the prosecutors in my direction, but it all worked out.

I'm innocent.

But your innocence was never actually proven.

Your charges were dismissed because your ex-lover, AUSA Angela Valdes, fell on her sword and exposed her team for prosecutorial misconduct.

Well actually, Olivia, AUSA Valdes found a piece of evidence proving my innocence, um, a piece of evidence that her team purposefully and, uh, apparently, uh, withheld, knowing that it would ruin their case against me.

Tasha, I'm sure seeing AUSA Valdes on a regular basis must have been a painful reminder of your husband's affair.

Why aren't you wearing your wedding ring?

[dark music]

The truth is, I had to sell it in order to pay for our incredibly talented defense team.

It takes a lot of time and money to represent a wrongfully accused man.

Tasha, are you ready, or should I say willing, to rebuild your life with James?

Yes, I am.

James came clean, and he told me everything about the affair, and despite how difficult those conversations were, I admire his honesty.

And I must say, the affair wasn't entirely his fault either.

Hmm.

I had stopped believing in his dreams.

But now, after everything we've been through, we're stronger than ever.

GHOST: Amen.

OLIVIA: Hmm.

[knocking]

- Jerry.

- Hey.

Come in.

You're the last person I expected to see.

Yeah.

ANGELA: Can I get you anything to drink or No, no, I'm good.

I couldn't stop thinking about what you said, Angela.

Did you know that Saxe was in the MCC when Lobos' would-be hitter was shanked?

No, I didn't.

And that he took an off-the-books meeting with Bailey Markham, met with him secretly.

Markham's been missing for a week.

Strange coincidences, aren't they?

Saxe is many things, but he's not a k*ller.

I mean, he might jerk off over a dead body, but actually pull a trigger?

I don't know.

Yeah, it's not for sure.

That's why I brought these files, like you asked.

Great, thank you.

Let's start diggin'.

So yo, so tell me this, why did you cover for me with Tommy and your dad, when I'm the one that introduced you to Kanan?

I just wanted to know why you did that.

I covered for you, so now you give me the truth.

Did my dad send Kanan to jail?

[distant vehicle honks]

Look, James You mean f*cking Ghost?

Kanan told me him, my Uncle Tommy, and my dad, they all ran dr*gs together.

My dad k*lled their boss, named Breeze.

[tense music]

I feel like my dad wanted Kanan in jail because he wanted to leave Queens.

That's why Kanan hates him now.

That's why he wanted me.

[chuckles]

You're a smart-ass kid, man.

Did Dad set Kanan up by himself?

Or was Uncle Tommy in on that, too?

I just wanna know the truth.

[sighs]

Nah, Tommy didn't know.

What about my mom?

[distant vehicle honking]

[speaking Spanish]

- Mr. Egan.

- That's right.

Diego Jimenez.

Nice to meet you.

This is my sister, Alicia.

I always heard of the Jimenez Brothers.

I guess you heard wrong.

- Yeah.

- [chuckles]

- This way.

- Thank you.

- [baby crying]

- [sighs]

I understand you have a grievance that you feel requires our attention.

Yeah.

One of yours, a Toro, k*lled my distributor in cold blood.

My former partner, Ghost, had a deal to get Julio out, a deal that we still honored by giving the Toros Locos some of our territory.

That f*cking traitor got years' more life than he deserved [speaking Spanish]

And this Ghost is no longer a part of your organization?

So what?

When Dave Thomas d*ed, you ain't see Ronald McDonald ride on the nearest Wendy's.

We had a deal.

I-I expect to be fully repaid.

And what would you suggest?

I want our old territory back, and I want six new Toros Locos corners.

- No f*cking way.

- TOMMY: And I want access to your port connections in California.

I mean, of course I'll kick you back a percentage.

And your Serbian employers told you to ask for this?

No I mean, Jason wants me to expand to the West Coast, sure, but you already owe me.

[dark music]

I k*lled Lobos.

[both laugh]

We had Lobos stabbed to death in prison.

That's cute that you're trying to take credit for it, but that wasn't you, and it didn't work.

He survived, and he made a deal to flip on everybody, including you two.

No, I capped Lobos, and since then you've been numero uno in Mexico, and you're still free to travel stateside, so you owe me twice.

We will have to take some time to consider it.

[exhales]

Okay.

Don't take too long.

[Sims' "OneHundred" plays]

I've been living in a fishbowl Everybody looking, everybody looking, yeah Looking at the kid go Doing what they wouldn't, doing what they couldn't Beats up, hanging out the window [knock on door]

Everybody jukin', everybody jukin' What's up, son?

I made us some dinner.

Where's Mom?

She with your Aunt LaKeisha.

That don't bother you, after seeing what happened to Jukebox?

It's not real.

No chance, no control, now look at him go [sighs]

Well I just lassoed a comet just to know that I did it You said What is real is the fact that you been hanging out with Kanan.

I need to know how you met him.

I was on the street.

And he told me he was a friend of Shawn's.

And he told me he knew you from back in the day.

But he didn't tell me why he was mad at you.

What'd you do?

Nothing to deserve him hurting you.

He didn't hurt me, though.

He saved my life.

And he must have had his own reasons for doing that, son, but look, no matter how nice he was to you, you heard what he said, Kanan's a bad man, done some bad things.

I mean, he m*rder*d his own son.

Shawn said he was in jail for a long time.

Is that why he was mad at you?

Kanan was in jail because he broke the law.

That's it.

Had nothing to do with me.

And Mom?

Neither your mother or I did anything to hurt Kanan, no matter what Kanan or Jukebox told you.

- [phone buzzing]

- Hold on, I gotta take this.

[TV clicks on, video game g*nf*re continues]

I can't talk right now, old man.

TERESI: You have two days.

[g*nf*re continues on TV]

[phone chimes]

All right, son, you finish up that game, come out here and eat.

I don't want your food getting cold, all right?

[uplifting music]

- Yes.

- Mm-hmm.

GINA: You blew that out, Terry.

- Yes.

- Hey yo, Tasha, you gonna go?

- Hmm?

- I don't know about all that.

GINA: Come on.

Come on, girl.

- Mariah Carey?

- Hmm.

What you gonna do?

Let's see what we got here.

I really don't want to do anything.

- I got you, girl.

- Hook her up, Gina.

- [laughs]

- Okay, I shall.

I'm nervous.

Come on, I believe in you.

- Hmm-mm-mm.

- All right, here we go, Tasha.

[Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" begins]

- You got this.

- Breathe, girl.

TASHA: Y'all did this to me.

I can't believe I'm up here, but okay.

Share my life Take me for what I am 'Cause I'll never change All my colors for you I don't really need to look Very much further I don't want to have to go Where you don't follow I will hold it back again This passion inside I can't run from myself There's nowhere to hide [distant sirens]

Both you and Cooper Saxe were at the search of Truth.

Were either Donovan or Saxe in your vicinity at all times?

Most of the time.

I know Saxe was covering the main floor.

I was not with Donovan when he was up in the office, though.

So you had some time for each of them that you can't account for.

I'm just completing my file.

I'll call in Donovan for questioning as soon as possible.

Sounds good.

Anything else you need from me?

No, we're done here, Mike.

[door opens, closes]

- 'Night, everybody.

- You crazy.

- Oh, no.

- That was good.

- Ah, that was fun.

- [chuckles]

I haven't done that in a long time.

Thanks for inviting me here.

This this is a really great spot.

I live just around the corner.

We're regulars here.

Oh, okay.

You can sing, girl.

- And you can sing too, boy.

- [chuckles]

I mean, maybe in another life we coulda done something, been a duet or something.

Oh, what, we woulda been like BeBe and CeCe Winans?

No, not brother and sister.

Come on now.

[R&B music]

Right.

Not brother and sister.

I only wanna know if it's cool to come over Closer I only wanna know if it's cool for us Or is it over Is it over 'Cause even if we keep going on will it always Not really in the business of kissing the wives of my clients.

And you compromise First time for everything, though, right?

You've been driving me crazy Let's get you in a cab.

And it's making me think about The way it needs to be Okay, let's.

Don't walk away 'Cause I only want your love Your love [sighs]

[solemn music]

Well, it's not gonna open itself.

You gotta open it.

You like?

After you came through in the interview yesterday, I thought you deserved a replacement.

I thought we couldn't afford this.

Stern's got me throwing a big welcome home party for myself tonight at Truth.

Gonna be all kinda city councilmen there, and I need you to be there.

Wearing this.

I need you to look the part.

The first time I did this, it was because you made me a better criminal.

Hmm.

But yesterday, you made me a better man.

[sighs]

[sighs]

[smooth club music]

[chuckles]

Well said.

Oh, there you are.

Stop working and meet Councilman Leonard.

Mr. St. Patrick.

Councilman, pleasure.

Leonard here is one of the voting members on the Minority Trade Commission.

His great-uncles were a part of Tammany Hall.

Simon tells me you are the best candidate to come along for decades.

Flattering, Simon.

[chuckles]

I'm just very excited, of course, about pitching you my new ideas.

Having been raised in the hood Yes, yes, the community.

It is noble.

I think the most important thing to think about is where we want to build.

My district has an abandoned hospital, which is perfect for a clean slate construction.

Your district is in Manhattan, right?

Naturally.

Best bang for the buck.

STERN: We'll sort out the details, James.

New York is a very diverse city.

Don't get hung up on where for now, huh?

Right.

- I need a pick-me-up.

- [chuckles]

Pleasure, Councilman.

Move!

Move!

'Sup, little man.

Where are your parents?

Oh, they're out right now, but Big Mama's back there with Yas.

Okay, we'll keep it quiet.

Hey, look, Tariq, I just wanna let you know that Kanan ain't coming back.

So you ain't gotta be scared.

I'm not scared.

- Uncle T.

- 'Sup?

Did you help my dad put Kanan in jail?

[solemn music]

No.

And and I mean, honestly, 'Riq, I didn't know nothing about it.

Why, what did Kanan tell you?

Well, he said you and my dad sold dr*gs for him.

He said my dad k*lled people, that you k*lled people.

Hmm.

Is that true, Uncle T?

Did you k*ll people?

I think we should talk about this when you're older.

I want to talk about it now.

Then I think that you should ask your dad about when we was kids.

This ain't my story to tell.

But what I can tell you, Tariq, is that Kanan ain't a good guy.

[g*nf*re on video game]

It's hard to tell who's good and bad anymore.

Later, 'Riq.

Tell your dad I stopped by.

Mm-hmm.

[indistinct chatter]

OLIVIA: Your wife looks beautiful tonight.

She is beautiful.

She used to be a singer?

What'd you used to be?

I'm much more interested in what you used to be.

[chuckles]

Okay, I see where this is going.

Look I like to get to know my subjects.

- Hmm.

- I really like to know what lies underneath.

I saw that little performance you and wifey gave during the interview.

She doesn't love you anymore.

I could tell.

This is someone you should definitely meet.

He won't talk to a reporter, so I'll make myself scarce.

So you fought the law and you won, my brother.

Well, I didn't win yet.

Rishad Tate.

Councilman in Queens.

James St.

Patrick, from Queens.

I know.

I saw your interview.

And I heard about your interest in the Minority Trade Commission.

Stern and Councilman Leonard are pushing you into it, right?

No, no, you know, I just got to a place in my life where I felt I should give back.

Well, a development loan can be a good thing if it's used properly.

Or it can wind up as another casualty of city corruption.

Hey, listen, before you commit to anything that Stern and Leonard are selling, there's a property in my district I think that you'd find very interesting.

Why don't you go ahead and give me a call?

I'll do that.

Always keep the faith, brother.

- You do the same.

- Councilman, look at you.

Ah, and your beautiful wife.

Hi.

- Good to see you.

- Hmm.

Hit the bottle like a bludgeon Emotions can be t*rture Keep them locked inside that dungeon I'm lunging at ghosts But then there's nothing So I post it by the most potent potion That I can summon This is my reality, reality Reality What are you hiding?

None of your business.

Get out of my room.

I'm worried about you, 'Riq.

Mom told me about Kanan.

You okay?

What's she saying, that he's dangerous?

You need to stay away from him?

She's a f*ckin' liar.

Just like Dad, Uncle Tommy.

Everyone else.

Dad was a drug dealer.

He f*cking k*lled people.

Mom and Uncle Tommy, they were into that, too.

I heard them fighting earlier.

Mom said she wanted Dad to k*ll Kanan, like, a really long time ago, and I don't understand it.

- I don't believe it.

- What don't you understand?

You cannot trust them.

Look, there's this prep school in Connecticut.

It's called Choate.

Maybe we can convince Mom and Dad to send us there.

No more Van Allen bullshit.

No more everyone knowing about Dad.

We could just get away, together.

Pfft, I'm not goin' to any f*ckin' white-ass nerd school in the f*ckin' burbs.

- You could go if you want.

- And this is any better?

You lying, sneaking out, cutting school?

Dad just got back, and if everything you said about him is really true, we have to make sure everything looks perfect so he stays out of jail, 'Riq.

I don't care if he goes back to jail or not.

- You're an idiot.

- You're the idiot.

Do you realize if Dad goes to jail for good, Tariq, we won't have any of this?

No more penthouse.

No more video games.

We'll be broke.

Is that really what you want?

Damn it, 'Riq, listen to me.

- Yo, get outta my room.

- Ow, Tariq, stop!

Too bad Mom's not here to save you.

[dance music]

- You look beautiful tonight.

- Well, thank you.

The ring is a particularly nice touch.

I guess this suits you after all.

Look, Terry, let me explain Tasha, where is that husband of yours?

I need to speak with him.

Ah, James.

Tasha, would you, uh, excuse us for a moment?

Uh, your husband and I have some business to discuss.

Well, Tasha can stay.

No, it's fine.

Good night, Simon.

Good night.

So what's on your mind?

Stay away from Rashad Tate.

I saw the two of you talking.

He's a distraction.

One of your weaknesses.

You did what you needed to do with Councilman Leonard.

You keep him happy, he'll bring us in for a nice landing.

I actually liked some of what Tate had to say.

Of course you did.

I get it, I-I really do, but this is business, James, not a fraternity.

Leonard has the juice and the motivation.

I can't speak to Tate's ability to be controlled.

No, well, it's a good thing that you're a silent partner.

Enjoy the party, Simon.

[suspenseful music]

TAMARA: Hello?

Hey.

I-I was looking for your dad.

I didn't know he had custody of you guys tonight.

He's not home, Mr.

Sandoval.

He's been working really late the past couple of nights.

You want me to tell him you stopped by?

No, no, that that's okay.

Have a good night.

[dark music]

DONOVAN: There's no reason for Saxe to have gone upstairs.

Is there anything to indicate that he did?

This is the view of the main stairs right before the tape cuts out.

Saxe is nowhere near it.

- Wait, go back.

- [key clacks]

Look before my guys went up the stairs.

sh*t.

I was right there.

Wait.

Is that DONOVAN: Mike Sandoval?

[tense music]

[knocking at door]

Angela, uh, I think Mak is starting to suspect me of Greg's m*rder, and it It really wasn't me.

I don't think so either.

I've been talking to Mike.

He's pretty sure it's Donovan, and there's some damn good reasons.

Hey, Jerry.

Uh, you hear all that?

Yeah.

Come in.

We have something to show you.

Tasha, what are you doing here?

[sighs]

Look, Terry, this ring It's just part of the costume.

I mean, you were the one that told me that I needed to stand by James so he doesn't end up in jail.

I did say that and I wasn't being fair, okay?

Look, I don't have the right to ask anything of you.

[R&B music playing]

You're all that I need You should go.

You're all that I need I should.

You're all that I need But you know what, I I just keep thinking, what if I had never met James?

Falling deeper now What if I had met you first?

Spiral to the ground And I knew that I knew when he'd come around Didn't think it'd be so crazy When I'd fall forever for us too, too And nothing seems to measure up to you, you And I think I can handle something new, new You're ready so dance with me Put your hands around me I'm falling all in, oh I'm fading out I'm taking my seat You're all that I need You're all that I need You're all that I need Are you ready [both moaning]

Are you ready Are you ready So dance with me So what do we need to talk about that's so important?

I need you to call Teresi for me.

That old gangster?

The one that took out Soletti?

Why?

'Cause that old gangster witnessed me k*ll a marshal in prison.

Well, that wasn't very smart.

Yeah, as not smart as you k*lling a Homeland Security Agent?

- Proctor told you?

- Yeah, he told me.

Oh, well, go on.

I gotta hear the rest of this "I k*lled a marshal" story.

So Teresi helped me cover the sh*t up in exchange for a call from you.

- Why?

- I don't know why, okay?

But he wants you to call him.

The number's programmed.

[tense music]

Wait a minute.

Oh, whoa.

What about this Homeland guy?

You get rid of the body?

No, Proctor's guy took care of it.

Proctor's guy?

Tommy, come on, man.

What what about the recording?

You at least got rid of that, tell me.

No, Proctor took care of that, too.

He said he wanted to wipe the agent's laptop clean or something.

Tommy, what if Proctor kept it?

Why would he do that?

'Cause he ain't our lawyer anymore, Tommy.

He's an accomplice.

Well, unless we shut his ass up.

We don't have the recording.

We don't have the body.

We don't know what kind of instructions he left in case something happens to him.

What I'm saying is if this f*cking body shows up, it traces back to you and me, man.

You f*cked up when you k*lled the agent, and I f*cked up when I k*lled the marshal.

So here we are yet again, needing each other to set some sh*t straight.

I'll go talk to Proctor.

You need to f*cking Yeah.

MAK: What have you gotten yourself into, Joe?

I know you get close to the edge, but these guys aren't even your clients anymore.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Bailey Markham, Joe.

That's what I'm talking about.

I think he had evidence that would convict Egan and St.

Patrick.

I think they made him disappear.

You can think whatever you want.

I'm gonna go inside now.

Your number was one of the last that Markham called.

The last cell phone tower that his phone pinged off of, they are right here.

Right above your place.

Hmm.

What happened to him, Joe?

Hmm?

Come on, tell me now and save yourself.

I have no idea.

Well, you know something.

Yeah, you're gonna talk to me, or they're gonna k*ll you.

It's up to you which happens first.

[distant vehicle honks]

[dark music]

[engine turns over]

[beep]

[cell phone buzzing]

Talk to me.

I'm a busy man.

What do you want?

It's good to hear your voice, Tommy.

How's my Connie holding up?

She looked sick, but you know that.

Cut the small talk.

What do you want?

[sighs]

I've been inside a long time.

It's a lot of time to think about, you know, my life and, uh The biggest lesson that you learn is that the only people that really matter are your family.

Yeah, it sounds like group therapy has done wonders for you, but if this conversation isn't about money, I got other sh*t TERESI: Tommy, look I don't know any other way to say this.

I'm your dad.

You're my son.

And I want to meet you.

My dad is dead, m*therf*cker.

No, I was told to call you, and I did.

So as far as I'm concerned, you're set with our friend.

We clear?

Yeah.

Yeah, we're clear.

But Tommy, uh for what it's worth, it wasn't my choice not to be in your life.

It was Kate's.

How the f*ck do you know my mother?

TERESI: When I first met your mom, she was a dancer at the Trop in Atlantic City.

Eight-feet tall, and it was all legs.

I don't know, I got this thing about redheads.

And listen, I meant what I said before.

I want you to come see me.

[aggressive hip-hop music]
