Previously on Hawaii Five-O... Dad?

JOHN: I didn't say it enough.

I love you, son.

STEVE (on phone): Dad? Dad! No, no, no!

I woke up thinking about Dad.

I mean, it's coming up on ten years since he d*ed.

Maybe I'm just feeling a little lost right now.

I'm worried about him.

I know you idolize the guy, but he's hurting right now.

DANNY: So I don't understand.

You think you're-you're capable of being done?

Look, all I know is that ten years ago, I hit the ground running hard and I've been running ever since.

And I feel like maybe I need a... a little time away to get some perspective.

Tell the policeman you have a message for Steve McGarrett.

Tell him my name is Daiyu Mei.

He might not know me, but he'll be familiar with my late husband Wo Fat.

Got a visit from that lawyer from England this morning.

DANNY: Why would your mother send you a cipher?

(grunting)

Yo, yo, you all right?

Yeah. What the hell just happened in here?

Someone stole the cipher.

I mean, they're gonna be disappointed.

I never put it back in the envelope.

_

_

VICTOR: We can expect the m*llitary transport to pass through this valley at some point.

The trace will enable us to pinpoint an exact location.

Here.

The helicopter will be able to use the mountainside as cover until our extraction team moves in.

We take out the lead vehicle first.

The transport carrying your brother should be middle of the convoy.

This only works if Commander McGarrett agrees to let Anton go.

Trust me. He'll agree.

Who are these people, Steve?

VICTOR: I'm not so sure.

I've had people on John McGarrett, looking into him.

He hasn't spoken to his son in a long time.

Blood is blood.

I swear to God, I will hunt you down and I will k*ll you.

(engine starts in distance)

Follow them.

(Hawaii Five-O theme song playing)

No, no, I understand. Thank you. Thanks, Duke.

Appreciate it. All right.

Bad news?

Crime lab dusted my house.

Whoever broke in, they left no prints, no DNA, nothing.

So no way of knowing who tried to steal the cipher, but what we do know is, whatever that code means, it's worth a hell of a lot to someone.

You know something, man, I really appreciate you helping me out like this. I do.

It's nothing a couple of dedicated, over-the-hill soldiers can't handle.

(chuckles softly)

Well, here's hoping my guy can deliver.

He's ex-NSA, supercomputer for a brain.

You definitely want him on your team at a pub quiz.

All right. Honestly, Marshall Nang is pretty much the only person outside of Langley with a sh*t at decoding that cipher.

Actually, scratch that. There is someone else.

A Naval Intelligence officer I met a couple years back.

Super smart. She'd be up for the job, too.

But I-I lost track of her. Mm-hmm.

Her name wouldn't be Catherine Rollins, would it? You know her?

Yeah, I know her, man.

She was my girl.

We were together for a bunch of years, but, uh, well, these intelligence types, they got a habit of, uh, disappearing on you, you know?

Mm. Sounds like it was serious.

Well, she was the one that got away.

What are you gonna do? Hmm.

I hope your guy's the punctual type.

Oh, he'll be on time.

You okay?

What do you mean?

I mean, I hope I didn't ruin your day by bringing her up.

Who, Catherine? Yeah.

No, man, I'm good.

Thank you.

Oh, here he is.

(phone rings)

One sec. Yeah, Danny, what's up?

Hey, Steve, I got a crazy tail on me and they are not being discreet at all.

Where are you? Send me your location. I'm traveling east on Kapiolani, just passed University.

All right, hang tight. We're on the way.

All right, do me a favor and hurry up.

They're all over me, Steve. They're up my ass, all right?

I just went under the H-1.

(siren wailing) Okay, cop-copy that.

Listen to me, we are headed to you now, okay?

We're on the way, Danny.

(g*nf*re)

(tires screeching)

Was that g*nshots? Hey, yo, what's going on, Danny?

Danny, talk to me, man!

Danny!

Danny!

(horn honks)

Danny!

Danny?!

Extinguisher, back of my truck. Copy.

Danny! Danny!

Danny!

He's not in here.

(grunts)

(phone rings) Hey, boss, what's up?

STEVE: Hey, Tani, listen to me. I'm looking at two cameras here at the intersection of Kaohu and Mookaula.

I need the last 20 minutes of footage from them and any other camera in this area that can see this intersection, okay?

Yeah, on it. Boss, you seem upset.

Is everything... Danny's been taken.

Wait, what? I got to go, I'm gonna call you back. I'll call you back.

All right?

We got to lock this perimeter down.

I want CSU down here dusting this thing for prints, for DNA, anything they can find.

Then I want a block by block search done with every available officer in this area.

All right? We're looking for Detective Danny Williams.

You know who he is. My partner, all right?

We're looking for him. Let's go. Let's go, let's go.

Hey, we're pulling up the traffic cam footage that Steve requested.

It looks like there's at least two cameras with decent coverage on the spot that Danny was taken.

All right, go back to 30 minutes ago and scrub forward from there.

Why would someone grab Danny like this? Could be blowback from a case he worked, either with Five-O or from when he was with HPD.

Whatever the case may be, whoever took Danny wanted to keep him alive.

So until we find hard evidence to the contrary, we're gonna treat this like a kidnapping.

Nothing more.

Hey, guys, any news? Yeah.

Cops are searching the area. So far, nothing.

Where are we at with the footage?

There.

Oh, my God.

Tani, run those plates.

TANI: Both plates are coming back to stolen vehicles.

Let's get up on the phones, all right?

Everybody here and HPD.

If we get that ransom call, we got to get that trace up and running right away.

(groaning)

You. It figures.

You know, after what you guys did to my car, I feel like we should probably exchange insurance information.

(chuckles softly)

A man with two children should not be making jokes.

You touch my kids and I'll k*ll you, you understand?

I'll find you and I'll k*ll you.

(groans)

TANI: Hey.

We knitted together the traffic footage.

We were able to track the two SUVs from the spot that Danny was grabbed.

It looks like they're heading east.

QUINN: Unfortunately, after about a mile, we ran out of camera coverage.

Tell HPD I want birds in the air. I want every available officer, and I mean every single person who has a badge on this island looking for Danny Williams.

Hello?

DAIYU MEI: It's good to finally hear your voice, Commander.

Who is this? My name is Daiyu Mei.

I believe you knew my husband, Wo Fat.

Do you have Danny?

Correct.

In fact, it seems we each have something that the other person wants.

I have the person that you care about most in the world, and you have something that is rightfully mine.

What do I-what do I have? What do I have that's yours?

The cipher.

Deliver it to me and Detective Williams lives.

And... don't insult me by pretending you don't know what I'm talking about.

Assume I know everything. How do I know he's okay?

Say hello to your friends, Detective Williams.

They're concerned for your safety.

Whatever she wants you to do, Steve, don't do it, okay? Oh, God.

Don't give her anything.

So, do we have a deal?

Don't make the same mistake you made with your father, Commander McGarrett.

Don't allow a loved one to die because of your stubbornness.

STEVE: Tell me where you want the trade to go down.

I'll text you the information.

Come alone, Commander.

Do exactly as I ask... or your friend dies.

You're not just gonna give her what she wants, are you?

Listen, I made the mistake of hesitating when Hector demanded Lincoln.

Almost cost us two lives. You remember that?

I'm not making that mistake again.

Look, you seem to be forgetting, that situation worked out just fine... we got the woman and her son back.

Yeah, we got the woman and her son back because of Lincoln.

Not me. Now, giving Daiyu Mei what she wants...

Trading this cipher for Danny's life...

That's it, that's all I got.

That's the play. Okay.

What she told you back there about your father?

There's no way you could have saved him, okay?

The odds were stacked against you that day.

But right now...

Right now you've got Five-O in your corner.

And it wasn't long ago you told me that very thing.

Let us help you find another way.

All right?

There is no guarantee that even if you give her that cipher, she'll spare Danny's life. (elevator dings)

I'm going to the trade alone.

I'll call you.

Good luck, brother.

VICTOR: My brother's dead.

Isn't he?

STEVE: Victor, listen... Isn't he?

And so's your father.

No! (elevator dings)

(doors open)

Where is he?

2342 Kapule Avenue.

You'll find him there. No.

Doesn't work for me.

You're gonna livestream him from my phone.

I want the geostat data to prove he's where you say he is, and he's alive. Otherwise there's no deal, all right?

Danny.

Danny! You okay? Hey!

I'm fine, Steve. Don't trust her, okay?

Hey!

Now give me the cipher.

Good decision.

You know, I wouldn't put that phone away if I was you.

I'd actually probably call your family.

Tell 'em you love 'em. (laughs)

You really have no idea what you stirred up.

Tani, yeah, it's me.

Listen, I need an all-units alert.

Send HPD SWAT to 2342 Kapule Avenue.

Tell them that's where they're holding Danny.

I-I'm five minutes out, right? You tell them that, okay?

TANI: You got it.

(phone rings)

DAIYU MEI: McGarrett's on his way.

Make sure he finds a dead man.

(grunting)

Oh!

(groans)

(g*nsh*t)

(grunts)

(groans)

(siren wailing)

Danny.

Danny. Hey.

Hey. Hey, there you go. Okay, all right, buddy.

All right. All right.

Okay. Okay, you keep groaning, all right?

Come here, put your hand behind my head.

Hold on. Hold on. Hold on.

One, two, three, come on, come on!

Here we go.

I'm right here.

Door, get the door.

TANI: I'll drive!

Okay, climb in.

I need you to climb in, all right?

I'm right behind you, buddy.

Get in. All right.

I got you, I got you. Pressure pack's inside here.

All right, all right.

All right, go!

STEVE: This is Commander Steve McGarrett of the Five-O Task Force.

I got a patient coming in. GSW to the chest.

All right? I need surgeons prepped and ready for him when I get there. I'm bringing him in myself.

All right? Yes, good. Go, go, go.

You're good, buddy.

Uh, GSW to the chest.

In and out of consciousness. His pulse is thready.

Let's get two IV lines, run them wide open.

Infuse two units O negative. All right? Let's go.

Hey, I'm with you, bud. It's okay.

(groans weakly)

I'm sorry, Commander, you need to wait here.

You want to take somebody...

take me.

Not him, you take me.

(footsteps approaching)

No news. He's still in surgery.

Look, Steve, I know you know this.

But we need to get that cipher decoded.

We have a photo of it.

With any luck, my guy can cr*ck it.

What difference does it make?

Well, I'll tell you what difference it makes.

We cr*ck that cipher, we figure out why Daiyu Mei wanted it.

Maybe we learn what she's got planned next.

It's our best chance at catching her.

Look, all I'm asking is for your permission to take that cipher to Nang. You stay put right here.

I got this.

(sighs)

Take Quinn with you.

She's gonna give you a hard time, tell you she wants to stay here and support me, but you tell her... the best way to do that is for her to help you.

All right?

Copy that.

Hey.

Nang.

Thought you said this guy was expecting you.

I'll check around back.

That was very McGarrett of you.

Clear. Kitchen.

Got blood. And drag marks.

This way.

Car's gone.

COLE: Blood trail stops here on the passenger side.

Someone put him in his own car and drove off with him.

Good news is it's an electric vehicle.

Car like this is definitely gonna have GPS.

With any luck, we can track it.

(sighs) Why is this taking so long?

They haven't given us any news yet or is it a good sign?

I know this is hard.

But it's all in God's hands now.

The only thing we can do is be here for Danny and pray for him.

Come on, chin up, kiddo. It's gonna be all right.

Hey.

How's, uh... What's going on?

He just got out of surgery and he's stable for now.

Okay.

We're not entirely out of the woods yet, but we just cleared a big hurdle.

All right, can I-can I, uh, can I see him?

Yeah. Come. Okay.

Hey, Quinn, what's up?

Heard Danny's out of surgery. Yeah, yeah.

It's early, you know, but all signs are positive.

Yeah, well, unfortunately, that's where the good news ends.

The contact McGarrett and I were set to meet this morning, Marshall Nang... he's dead.

What?

COLE: Someone grabbed him from his house.

We tracked his car to a junkyard where it had been crushed.

His body was inside.

And Nang was the only person on the island with the know-how to cr*ck that cipher.

Now, if Daiyu Mei figured that out somehow...

She forced him to cr*ck the cipher and then k*lled him for his trouble. Well, if that's true, she ain't gonna be here much longer.

I got an idea.

Yeah, Cole, go ahead.

It's called a ADFGVX cipher.

The Germans were the first to use it during World w*r I.

The code your mother sent were coordinates for a cemetery on the island.

We're sending you the location now.

Okay. (hangs up)

Oh, my God.

What is it?

My-my dad used to take me here.

This way. Family mausoleum's down here.

This was my mother's crypt.

Someone took your mom's body?

No. No, I mean, this crypt was assigned to her after she faked her death.

Anyway, I always thought it was empty, uh, I guess I was wrong.

Your mother must have hidden something inside of it.

That's why she sent you the cipher.

She wanted you to find it after she d*ed.

Right. Well, whatever it was, it looks like Daiyu Mei's got it now.

According to the time code, this happened less than an hour ago.

Can you push in on that?

That's a lot of cash. Yeah. My, uh, my mother felt like she had a lot to make up for. It's... it's a long story.
