02x12 - City of Stone: Part 4

Post by bunniefuu »

[GOLIATH] One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled.

It was a time of darkness. It was a world of fear.

It was the age of gargoyles.

Stone by day, warriors by night.

We were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years.

Now, here in Manhattan... the spell is broken, and we live again!

We are defenders of the night.

We are gargoyles.

Previously on "Gargoyles":

Let this mark the beginning of a golden age between all our clans, both human and gargoyle.

[ALL] By their acceptance are they consigned, forever and eternal bound, and each the other's pain resound.

Canmore, you are henceforth banished to England.

You are the cause of all this!

Macbeth has spared your life, boy. Don't throw it away.

I can tell you what happened. Everyone was turned to stone like a bunch of statues.

The spell is designed to end when the sky burns.

We'll fly over the city carrying these packs. At a preset time, the gas will ignite.

The sky will appear to be on fire.

I thought I'd rid myself of you long ago, human.

[BRONX GROWLS]

It's all right, my pet. Shh.

There. Your little human friend is safe.

For now.

I can keep occupied by destroying Xanatos and Goliath instead.

I hope they like surprises.

Because they're going to get a big one.

Their gas packs will explode too soon to ignite the sky and break the spell.

And far too soon for them to survive.

-[GROWLS] -Won't that be fun?

And once the others are gone, my laser cannon will take care of you and Owen, and especially her.

[GROWLS]

And there will be no one left to stop me.

No one, Demona? You've forgotten about me.

With the inhabitants of this city frozen in stone, it wasn't hard to spot all those robots and gargoyles taking off from the world's tallest building.

So I investigated and found exactly who I was looking for.

You're too late. You can't save them. No one can.

I am not here for them, I am here for you.

I want it over between us.

[YELLING]

Hold steady, men.

[HOWLING]

-Surrender, Hunter. -Never.

[WHINNIES]

Fall back to me.

We'll meet again, Hunter.

To me, my warriors.

Regroup. This night is not yet over.

Macbeth!

-The Hunter is defeated? -Not this night, but soon, Macbeth.

Together, we will triumph.

Hey, leave off.

I have business to attend, my lady.

What have you to tell me that Demona cannot hear, Bodhe?

Quickly, before Luach leaves to gather reinforcements.

I must speak of Demona and her kind.

The English believe the Hunter's tales of their evil.

This concerns me how?

The English rid their land of gargoyles years ago.

If you forswear them, the Hunter will lose his English allies, since they are here but to destroy these creatures.

Demona and her kind are all that stand in the way of peace.

-I see. -Father, why are you listening to this?

The gargoyles have fought with courage.

We might not have won this night, but neither did we lose. To betray them...

A wise king considers all of his options, Luach, and then makes his choice.

[YELLING]

-My lord. -What news of Demona?

The gargoyles have deserted.

No, this cannot be.

Our whole defense was planned around their aid.

We are overwhelmed, lord. The English outnumber us five to one.

[YELLING]

Gruoch!

My love, help me.

Luach's reinforcements will not come in time. The battle is lost.

-Then we must flee. Quickly. -I cannot.

Husband, for the kingdom to survive, you must live to fight another day.

We must hurry, before they find us gone.

[MAN] Welcome.

The time for masks is over.

-Should I recognize you, sirrah? -I am Canmore, son of Duncan.

The true king of Scotland.

You do remember Duncan, don't you, cousin?

You m*rder*d him and stole his crown.

I mean to buy it back. With your blood.

So the young prince is all grown up?

Canmore, your father was an evil man who deserved his fate.

But you were just a boy then.

So I offer one last opportunity for forgiveness and mercy.

He will not require it, but you will.

-[GASPS] -Demona!

First desertion, and now betrayal.

Why?

I merely offer you a sample of what you planned for me.

I planned for you to govern by my side.

Now, because of you, my kingdom is in flames.

Spare me your righteous outrage, Macbeth.

I know you would have betrayed me and my kind to win the approval of the English.

Never would I have done so. We have been allies for 37 years.

Too long, it seems.

No!

So the rumors were true.

Macbeth and the gargoyle were linked by sorcery.

When one dies, both die.

And I remain victorious.

She betrayed Macbeth. It was only a matter of time before she would have betrayed us.

A good thing we had the rest of her clan destroyed as well.

Her kind was an abomination. They did not deserve to live.

And am I next, O mighty Hunter?

Sir, Luach and his reinforcements approach. They outnumber us.

I have no quarrel with you, Lady Gruoch.

Mother.

No!

Father, no.

Father!

The Hunter and his English dogs will pay for this!

The king is dead.

Long live Luach, high king of Scotland.

Mother, we must go.

One last moment alone.

Please.

Goodbye, my husband, my love, my king.

-I know the pain is great, child. -But you are unharmed.

Waken now to the fate you have made for yourself.

You fool! Macbeth did not betray you. Canmore did. He destroyed your clan.

-You are the last of your treacherous kind. -You lie!

See for yourself, then. Go and search for your kin.

Search until you and your kind are but a nightmare memory.

[ROARS]

[GASPS]

Poor Macbeth. Canmore was wrong about you and Demona.

He said when one dies, both die.

But when one lives, both live.

And thus you both shall live eternally linked, sharing each other's pain and anguish.

With no release until one destroys the other.

Only then shall both finally perish.

Together.

Gruoch.

Away! You are a ghost.

No spirit, my love, but flesh, even as you are.

-How can this be? -I do not know.

But as I live, I must get to Luach.

Together we can still win this battle.

No. Luach wears your crown.

You are already accused of sorcery.

Even your loyal Scotsmen will fear you now.

The only hope of victory for your son and your country is for you to remain dead.

But I am not dead.

Then you must disappear. Leave Scotland.

And me. Forever.

-Och, it's the only way. -Come with me.

We cannot both abandon our son.

No. No, we cannot.

I will always love you.

I have hunted you through the centuries for my vengeance.

Take off that mask. You aren't fooling anyone, Macbeth.

-It looks like your plan will work, Xanatos. -I had no doubt about that.

I'm more worried about that beast of yours shredding my tapestry.

What tapestry?

The 12th-century piece on the south wall. Bronx was clawing at it when we left.

We must return to the castle.

I wear this as a reminder of your treachery.

Let's not start that again.

You blame me, I blame you. Aren't you tired of talking about it?

I'm not here to talk.

Then what? You know the rules.

k*lling me will gain you nothing but your own death.

After this long a lifetime, I have no fear of that.

And no desire to live in the kind of world you're creating.

Revenge is a dish best eaten cold, Demona.

And I have waited 900 years for this meal.

[ROARS]

My turn, old friend.

Demona!

This is bad.

The gas packs are set to detonate about ten minutes prematurely.

-You must stop them. -She's changed the access code, locked it.

Demona's the only one who can save the city and your friends.

Bronx, guard Elisa.

Stop this madness.

They're not going to listen to reason. Take them down. We'll sort it out after.

You're not the only one with weapons, laddie.

No! k*lling her won't solve anything.

-Death never does. -He's right, Macbeth.

Duncan was afraid that your father would make you king.

Did your father's death stop you from becoming king?

No.

You wanted revenge for your father. Did Gillecomgain's death settle that score?

No.

Did your own death save your son Luach from Canmore?

No.

Death is never the answer. Life is.

I'm just so tired.

Then sleep, Macbeth.

Normally, I'd be fascinated by all this, but I need that access code to save my city.

You must give them the code.

I will have vengeance for the betrayal of my clan.

Vengeance for my pain.

-But who betrayed your clan? -And who caused this pain?

The Vikings destroyed my clan.

Who betrayed the castle to the Vikings?

The Hunter hunted us down.

Who created the Hunter?

Canmore destroyed the last of us.

Who betrayed Macbeth to Canmore?

Your thirst for vengeance has only created more sorrow.

End this cycle, Demona.

Give us the code.

The access code is "alone."

[SIGHS]

What are you looking at?

Ah!

You tricked me. You had me under a spell.

None of this was my fault.

It was the humans, always the humans.

-You have learned nothing. -Nothing but your lies.

I will still have my revenge!

[STRAINS]

You are tired.

Sleep.

-What do we do with them? -We have written their stories.

They are our responsibility.

They are our children.

Wait.

Who are you? What are you?

That is a story for another day.

Magnificent.

[GASPS]

It worked. They're back.

[CHEERING]

Goliath, what's going on?

You'll forgive me if I just shake your hand?

Of course. I'm quite glad the plan worked.

Goliath, we made a good team.

You know, all this time, I've wondered why I let you creatures live.

Now I know. You come in handy now and then.

As do you.

Occasionally.
