I wanna talk about the work
you did during the pandemic.

Especially with those in underserved,
rural Louisiana.

Well, it's a real honor to
work for all of the residents

in St. Josephine. You know,

I came back to Louisiana when
my father passed away

and I found something I never expected.

You know, a sense of community,

that runs so deep within
me and within my family.

I just... I couldn't leave
without contributing something.

Now, I'm...
I'm no good at farming. [LAUGHS]

- Uh, but for a time...
- oh, I don't know about that, Charley.

- I've seen you out there.

I do not quite have a green thumb,

but for a time,
I did help the farmers mill.

And now, I help them through the council

and I have to tell you, it is an honor.

Everyday. Especially during
the pandemic.

You know, because of our response,

St. Josephine had one of the
lowest transmission rates in the state.

I remember reading about that.

Can you tell us about
your support of the

black farmers'
arbitration with the USDA?

You know this has been an
issue that the current administration

has said to be taking
a long, hard look into.

[CHARLEY] yes, yes.

I am working with the black
American farmers' alliance,

supporting legislation
to aid black farmers,

who've suffered decades

of discrimination by banks and the USDA.

Due to discriminatory policies,

black folks make up really only
one percent of farmers today,

as opposed to percent years ago.

Wow. So are you saying that the black
farmer in this country

is almost extinct?

This is true. Yeah.

But it doesn't have to be this way.

Not if I have anything to say about it.

- you've become

a local political celebrity and now,

the party leadership is
looking at you for state office.

Clearly, as a first step towards
a much brighter political future,

some say, like Stacy Abrams.

Well,
I'm honored that they've even asked me

to consider running for state office.

In fact, I'm actually here in DC today

for another meeting
with party leadership.

Well, where you are today is a
long way from that day in the arena

when you learned
of your husband's infidelity.

We all watched as you
walked out on that court.

Many hearts broke
when we watched you that day.

And now, there have
been recent photographs

of the two of you together in public,

and I'm almost hesitant
to ask this question,

but does this mean that you
and Davis have reconciled?

It's true.

Davis and I have reconciled.

How were you able to do that?

Because I'm thinking it couldn't
have been easy to work through,

considering all of the previous issues,

and scandals, some would say.

Uh, well, I would say it, too.

Believe me. And I'll admit
we're a work in progress.

But I have forgiven Davis.
We're moving forward.

But in the court of public opinion,

he is still not held in high regard.

Do you think that the public
has forgiven him,

and can he truly move forward?

Davis doesn't believe that he can
make amends with anything he says,

but rather by what he does.

Now, you and I, we both know
that he doesn't have the right

to ask that people forgive him

but he has asked me
to give him an opportunity

to prove that he's a changed man.

And I've given him that.

You're right, he doesn't have
the right to ask that of you,

but you say changed. Changed, how so?

Well, he's, he's doing the actual
work to make positive changes

in his life and in the lives of others.

He donates extensively to
organizations supporting children,

and women,
including me too and time's up.

Oh, that's a start.

But mostly,
he's trying to be a good father to our,

our son Micah and to his daughter, Tia.

He can't do much about his past,

but he's trying to
create a better future.

Well, I'm glad to hear that he's
really owned up to his mistakes,

and that he is working
toward redemption.

Work.

We all fall down at some point

but I believe it's how
you get up that matters.

So when you think of your recent
trajectory from basketball wife

and talent manager to public servant

with serious political aspirations,

what would you say

is a common denominator for
your success in both of those areas?

Hm. Well...

The word 'no' is my boomerang. [LAUGHS]

Someone tells me no,
and I simply boomerang it right back.

'No' with a 'no' of my own.

I just... I reject 'no' for breakfast,
lunch and dinner.

denominator for me, Gayle.

black folks should go back to Africa.

The environment plays the
biggest part in cultural development.

What better place to get in
touch with your cultural identity

You can still be proud of your culture,
no matter where you live.

not trying to go anywhere,
