08x05 - The Surrogate - Part 1

Post by bunniefuu »

Adam, do you know what it's like
for a woman to hear those words:

"You cannot have a child"?

And now you are asking
me to face more doctors.

That's just the point. You've
only talked to one doctor.

You've only had one opinion.

That one man is a specialist.
He is a fertility expert.

Won't you face the fact
that I cannot have a child?

I won't accept
it, damn it. I can't.

Well, it's simply no use.

- I can't believe you're giving up.
- Giving up?

Adam, having a family,
your child, a Carrington,

means just as much
to me as it does to you.

Maybe even more.

I know.

I guess it's because this does
seem so important. I don't wanna fight.

[SIGHS]

It just seems so unfair.

How did this happen to us?

No, don't bother.

Miss Fallon's in
here, Mr. Colby.

I was looking all over for you.

- I was just about to leave.
- Well, wait just a second, Jeff.

I'll arrange for their
luggage later on.

Thank you, Mrs. Wrigley.
I'll speak to you tomorrow.

- What was that all about?
- I'm sending for the children.

I want our family
to be together.

So do I.

Why did you make that decision
without discussing it with me?

I wanna stay in Denver.
This is our home.

I asked you something.

Why didn't you
talk to me about it?

Because I find it difficult to
discuss anything with you anymore.

Like little men in spaceships?

Blake asked me if I'd
like to stay here in Denver

and be his campaign manager.

You know, he has so
much respect for you.

I told him that I'd have
to check with you first

to find out what you think.

Now, isn't that a joke?

I know this has been hard
for you, and I should have...

You've already
made all the decisions.

We're moving back
here to Denver,

and it looks like Blake has
got a new campaign manager.

That should make you happy.

[MOANING]

Oh, that feels so good.
Where did you learn to do that?

Years and years of
practice as a classical pianist.

ALEXIS: Ah. Ha, ha.

You've just experienced

Rachmaninoff's "Prelude
in C-Sharp-Minor."

Oh, well, you've certainly
given me a new slant

on the old Russian master.

That was just merely your first
lesson in music appreciation.

[ALEXIS CHUCKLES]

If you like the, uh, prelude,

you're going to love
Mr. Chopin's "Minute Waltz."

Oh. Hmm.

Tell me, where did you learn
to give such a great massage?

Oh. Hours of practicing
on a variety of keyboards.

Sean, don't you ever
give a straight answer?

- Not if I can help it.
- No, I'm serious.

Mm-hm. So am I.

All I want to do is to learn
a little bit more about you.

You know all there
is to know about me.

- Oh?
- I'm reasonably attractive.

No.

You already know
I'm a strong swimmer.

I appreciate the classics.

And sometimes you
disappear for hours at a time.

SEAN: And that intrigues you?

Since you tell me I'm the only
person you know in Denver,

it, uh, puzzles me.

Jealous?

No. I'm not jealous.
I'm just curious.

Where do you go?

Look, I've told you all I can.

What I do and where I go

has got nothing to do
with our relationship.

Don't be so curious.

All right, all right. I promise I
won't ask you any more questions.

- It's a deal. All right?
- Mm.

Come back to bed.

- I'll see you later.
- Where are you going?

[SIGHS]

[DOOR OPENS THEN CLOSES]

[SIGHS]

Hello, Mr. Hess. How are you?

Yes. I have, uh,
a little job for you.

GERARD: Good to
see you, Mr. Dexter.

Feeling better, I hope.

Yes, much better,
Gerard. Thank you.

- Hello, Fallon. FALLON: Dex.

- Your father is expecting me.
FALLON: He's in the library.

Fallon, I realize that this
is none of my business,

but I heard about what
happened to you in California.

What do you mean? I don't
know what you're talking about.

Well, that you had an
experience out in the desert.

An encounter with a UFO.

What I'm trying to say is
that I've heard about people

who have gone through the same
thing as you. It's changed them.

- They try to deny what has happened.
- Who told you?

Well, that really
doesn't matter.

Somebody betrayed my
confidence. That matters a lot to me.

I just wanted to let
you know I believe you.

Oh, Dex, I'm sorry.

It's just very difficult for me to talk
about it without feeling rather foolish.

If you ever feel like
talking with someone

who thinks you're
anything but foolish...

- Hello, darling.
- Mother.

I've been shopping. I saw this.

I thought it would
be wonderful for you.

- That's very kind of you.
- Open it.

Do you like it?

Your taste is
impeccable, as usual.

- Of course. Ha, ha.
- It's perfect. Thank you.

By the way, I want to congratulate
you about that lumber-mill deal.

You were right.

Buying that timberland is going to
save us a fortune in our newsprint.

Adam? Are you listening?

Sorry. My mind's wandering.

Heh. Maybe I'm working too hard.

A new bridegroom
needs all his energy.

How is Dana feeling?

She's fine. Why do you ask?

I just heard her talking to the doctor
the other day. Is anything wrong?

No, nothing.

Dana and I are fine.

Good. But I think
something is wrong.

Is it anything to do with work?

Yes, as a matter of fact.

I didn't want to bring this
up until it was confirmed,

but apparently the land that
we've targeted for the paper mill

is also being proposed
as a state wildlife preserve.

- You mean Arthur Whitcomb's land?
- Yes.

Well, who's behind it?

- It's Father.
- Ugh.

Blake. I knew it.

And does this have anything to
do with his political campaign?

It does. He's making it a
major issue in his platform.

Is he?

Well, we'll just have
to see about that.

Bye-bye, darling.

- Thanks for the sweater.
- You're welcome.

KRYSTLE: Board of Land
Commissioners told me

there's no reason the , acres
can't be bought by the state and set aside.

I can think of several.

Alexis. What brings you here?

I should have known that you'd
be behind this preposterous plan.

I don't recall inviting
you here to discuss it.

Are you aware that that land that you
want to tie up is valuable timberland?

Yes, I'm well aware of that.

I'm also aware that it happens to
be a refuge for wildlife in this state.

Oh, spare me the Bambi stories. I
have an option to bid on that area.

Yes, for your
paper mill. I know.

Now, Alexis, this
is a very big country.

You can certainly find
timberland somewhere else.

Oh. So that you can use that land
to build your campaign on, hmm?

Isn't it interesting you never
got involved in issues like this

before you decided
to run for governor?

That is just the point.

Up to now, all we've been doing is
looking out after our own interests.

I think it's time we
gave something back.

Why don't you save your political
rhetoric for your future constituents

and leave that land alone?

KRYSTLE: For your benefit.

Have you ever looked beyond
what's good for Alexis Colby?

The answer to that
ridiculous question is yes.

- I'm gonna fight you on
this, Blake. BLAKE: All right.

- I'll be ready for it.
- Alexis, this is none of your business.

The reason that I am
who I am and where I am

is because I make
everything my business.

And I suppose you are the
dutiful wife, aren't you, Krystle?

Standing side-by-side
with your husband

on the political
platform of life.

Yes, I am.

Well, you'd better
stand very close to him

so you don't get bruised when
I blow you both out of the water.

[KRYSTLE SIGHS]

I wish I could give
you some hope, Dana.

If I thought anything
could be done...

I know, Dr. Edwards. It's just
that, you see, I thought perhaps

you had heard of
some new procedure.

- Something, some new dr*gs...
- That's not why you flew up, Dana.

You came back here because
you're worried about what happened.

And the truth coming out.

No.

No.

You see...

Oh, God. I have made
such a mess of things.

[DANA WHIMPERING]

I... I still have nightmares. I
still wake up in a cold sweat.

I still remember how I felt
and how frightened I was.

It... You saved my life.

And just look at what a
wonderful life you have.

You're a lovely young
woman. Bright, compassionate.

You have a husband
who adores you.

You know, Dana, many
couples adopt children.

Oh, it's not just
having a child.

It's having Adam's child.

[STAMMERS]

You don't understand what
it's like to be a Carrington.

Does Adam know you're here?

No.

And please, you must promise
me that you'll never tell him anything.

Never anything.
Please, promise me that.

Dana, you know I would
never break your confidence.

But I think you should
discuss it with Adam.

I can't.

Don't you see? I can't.

[SOBS]

[PLAYERS CHATTERING]

That was a good practice, Dad.

What'd you think of
Grandpa's football team?

I like the way they
tackle that thing.

You know, that
thing's called a dummy.

DANNY: A dummy?
- A lot to learn about the big leagues.

- Take it easy.
- Get off me!

- Shut your mouth - Get off
me. What's your problem, huh?

JOSH: What's my problem?
- What is your problem?

- Want some of
me? JOSH: Shut up!

- You want some of me?
- Yeah.

Stay here, Danny.

[SKIP & JOSH GRUNTING]

STEVEN: Break it up.

Hey!

Hey! What the hell is going on?

- Hey! Come on. SKIP: Come on!

- Come on! Come on!
STEVEN: What's this about?

- Man, this guy's crazy!
JOSH: Yeah, I'm crazy.

STEVEN: Break it
up! Cut it out! Cool it!

That's enough!

Look. The coach just
kicked us off the field again.

I am missing a very important
scrimmage because this jerk,

this second-string big sh*t,
just att*cked me for no reason.

Maitland, that sounds
like the story of your life.

att*cked in the locker room,
tackled on the field, blocked in a pass.

You make me sick.

Yeah, well, at
least I'm playing.

You're nothing but a
big mouth with no talent.

STEVEN: That's enough!
No! Don't! SKIP: Get off.

SKIP: You better do
something about this guy.

I don't need this. All right?

[JOSH SCOFFS]

STEVEN: Harris, I wanna
see you in my office in one hour.

Don't keep me waiting.

Nice catch, kid.

[ALL CHATTERING]

Mrs. Colby, it was
a piece of cake.

I don't know why you
wanted this character followed.

I mean, he didn't
do much of anything.

Ah, the post
office, a bookstore.

And he stopped and had
a drink in the Hunt Bar.

No. He didn't talk to anybody.
Like I said, it was a piece of...

ALEXIS [OVER PHONE]: Hello?

Hello, Mr. Hess?

Mr. Hess? Hello?

Mr. Hess?

Hello? Are you there?

But why would you
do something like that?

Why would you tell Dex?

Tell him what?

I didn't tell him anything.

But he knows about what
happened to me in the desert.

Not from me. Have you spoken
to somebody else about it?

- Steven.
- Steven you can trust.

Steven wouldn't say anything,
but I would. Steven wouldn't, right?

I didn't mean that.

Look, let's just
forget about it, okay?

[JEFF SIGHS]

I got this fund-raiser to go to tonight.
Blake's backers are gonna be there

and they're gonna want to
meet his new campaign manager.

I just wish you would
change your mind and join me.

Do you really want me to be
there, or is it just appearances?

I'm sorry about this
morning, all right?

Now, I just don't want us to
be separated anymore. I just...

I was upset about
the kids and...

- Ow. Ha-ha-ha.
- Are you all right?

[GROANS]

Ow. Ha-ha-ha.

You know when was
the last time we laughed?

The last time we
did anything special?

The last time we made love?

I don't know. It seems like...

You know what? To hell
with the cocktail party.

I should be through shaking
hands about : , : tops.

Why don't we have dinner
late tonight at The Carlton?

I'll be there.

Nine o'clock sharp.
Now, don't forget.

Wait, wait, wait.

[CHUCKLES]

[DOOR CLOSES]

[SIGHS]

I don't get it, Harris.

Second team, all-American.

Number-one draft
choice. You've got it made.

What's your problem
with Maitland?

No problem.

Just a difference of opinion
between professionals.

Nothing for the owner's
son to worry about.

[SCOFFS]

Look, just tell the coach I'll
pay my fine. Let's forget it. Okay?

Wait a minute, Harris.

- Something else?
- Yeah.

The owner's son
wants some answers.

Not wisecracks. Sit down.

All right. I'm all yours.
What do you wanna know?

I'm not interested in the fight.

What I wanna know is how a team
with the best talent money can buy...

And believe me, I know how much.

Can be in last place.

You might say we've got
a real attitude problem.

Yeah, and I think
I'm looking right at it.

All right. You wanna
know what's going on? Fine.

These coaches don't give a damn.

The owner of this team buys it
back, then decides to run for governor.

And meanwhile, your star
quarterback, Skip Maitland,

spends more time
chasing endorsements

than he does
watching game films.

- And how about you?
- Me? I'm mad.

Why? Because you're not
playing, or the team isn't winning?

Both.

You think your playing could
make that much of a difference?

I guarantee it.

Guarantee?

That's a strong word.

Yeah, and I can back it up.

That's all for now.

[WAITER & WOMAN
SPEAKING INDISTINCTLY]

[ALL CHATTERING]

Mrs. Colby?

- Yes?
- You have a call.

Thank you.

- Hello?
- Fallon, I'm sorry.

This is just taking forever.

Ahh. How much longer
do you think it'll last?

I don't know. It just seems that every
important backer in the state is here.

And obviously, you've
had to thank them all.

[OVER PHONE] Jeff, do
you know what time it is?

It's : . I've been
waiting here for over an hour.

I... Look, I know I... This was
going to be our time tonight, but I...

Maybe you should
order some dinner.

I'm not hungry.

Well, I just can't leave now.

I guess we all have our priorities.
Just go on doing what you're doing.

[OVER PHONE] I'll make
it up to you. I promise...

Fallon?

[SIGHS]

Can I get you
anything, Mrs. Colby?

I, uh... No... Please,
call for my car.

- You won't be staying for supper?
- No. Please, call for my car.

Yes, Mrs. Colby.

[GASPS THEN SIGHS]

- God, you scared me.
- Why? I've been waiting for you.

I don't like being followed.

Ah. I see you've
probably met Mr. Hess.

Yes. We had a brief but,
uh, revealing encounter.

He explained the
nature of his assignment.

And I convinced him the
assignment was now over.

Well, if you expect
me to apologize

because I want to
know more about you...

Oh, Alexis Carrington Colby
has to apologize for nothing.

I just want you to understand

why I'm leaving.

Leaving?

Oh, Sean, I don't
want you to leave.

You've got nothing
to say about it.

Oh, yes. I have. I need you.

Need me? A beautiful,
powerful woman like you?

Yes, I want you
with me at Colbyco.

Hmm. Which means?

Which means that I
am offering you a job.

Why do you think I'm interested?

I think you'll be more than
interested. I think you'll be intrigued.

SEAN: Could be. I'll sleep on it.
- Yes, let's do that.

I'll sleep alone, Alexis.

Good night.

[DOOR OPENS]

Uh, Steven, I, um...

I didn't realize
you were still here.

I just came to find
Danny's football.

Yeah, well, ahem, I got
a late start this morning.

Well, I guess I'd better
let you get dressed.

I really wouldn't have walked
in if I'd known you were still here.

It's no problem.

I don't understand. How much
trouble is a simple phone call?

Adam, we went through all of
this last night when I came home.

- I did leave you a note.
- Yes, you left me a note.

"Visiting a sick friend."

No name, no address, just "Billings."
I didn't know how to reach you,

- when you'd be back, nothing.
- Honey, I'm sorry.

It all happened very
suddenly. I should have called.

That would have been nice.

I thought you were so upset
at my pushing to start a family

that you were leaving me.

I guess I got a little crazy.

Adam, I would never leave you.

I love you too much.

Driving at you to have a baby,

I almost forgot what matters.

You and me.

You really mean that?

Of course I do.

You're the best thing
that ever happened to me.

I really wanna believe that.

But do you honestly think
you can be happy with a woman

who can't have a baby?

I am happy with you.

And we'll talk to other doctors.

We'll fight this together.
There has to be a way.

Adam, would you hold me?

[SIGHS]

- Adam...
- There has to be some way.

[PHONE BUZZING]

- Hello? MAN [OVER
PHONE]: Mrs. Colby.

This is Bill in Legal. Is there
something you wanted me to do?

Oh, yes, Bill. I want you to check
into our option on that timberland.

See if it's still viable.

And then I want to be sure that
Arthur Whitcomb's people know

that I'm still interested,
and then I want you to buy.

Immediately.

- Is that understood?
- Yes.

Good. Bye.

Good morning, Alexis.

You left early.

Yes, I had, uh, a
lot of work to do.

I hope you slept well, alone,
and that you had good thoughts.

Mainly about you.

Mm-hm, and did you
come to any conclusions?

That I missed being with you.

But I don't want
to work for you.

How can you possibly
turn down a job

when you don't know what
position I'm offering you?

As easily as you
offering me a position

without knowing what
my qualifications are.

I know what your
qualifications are.

You're extremely intelligent. And
that's what we need at Colbyco.

Take a look at this.
This is my proposition.

Yes, well, very
impressive title.

Very generous salary.

But, uh, I won't
work for you, Alexis.

Now, if you want me here at Colbyco,
it has to be under my conditions.

And what, pray, are those?

As a consultant.

Working with you.

Mother, I've done
some research...

- Oh, excuse me. ALEXIS:
Oh, it's all right, Adam.

Sean Rowan, I'd like you to
meet my son, Adam Carrington.

Sean saved my life.

We're all very
grateful, Mr. Rowan.

And he might be working with us.

Look, I have some thoughts
on the timberland problem.

I'll come back later.

Yes, I understand this is an issue
between your mother and your father.

Sean knows my feelings about
your father's campaign proposal.

So why don't you give me
whatever research you have?

Let me handle it.

- Oh, I can take care of it.
- Can you?

But isn't there a
conflict of interests here?

I repeat, I can handle it.

ALEXIS: I think it's
a good idea, Adam.

The last thing you want is to
be caught in the middle of this.

All right, if that's
the way you want it.

I do hope we'll see
more of each other.

Hmm. Somehow, I don't
think your son approves of me.

I do.

And that's all that matters.

Welcome to Colbyco, Mr. Rowan.

[SIGHS]

I missed you last night.

Oh, you didn't have Miss
Colorado keeping you company?

No, I didn't say that. I
just said I missed you.

Heh, I get it.

You had Miss Colorado in
the hot tub but me on your mind.

Oh, I'm so flattered.

As a matter of fact,

well, I've been
thinking about you a lot.

We make a good team.

At the pipeline
or in your hot tub?

I'll let you answer
that for yourself.

That was nice. But if we
don't change the subject,

we're never gonna
get any work done.

[BOTH CHUCKLE]

Ah, I'm so sorry.

I do hope I'm not
interrupting anything.

[DEX SIGHS]

What can I do for you, Alexis?

What you should
have done a while ago.

Sign these papers.

What are you up to?

Our partnership is dead.

I signed every paper your lawyer
put in front of me months ago.

These were left out. They're standing
in the way of me buying some land.

I'm not signing anything
until I have a chance to read it.

Well, I'm not coming
back here again.

- Nobody asked you to come
out here. LESLIE: Wait a minute.

Don't you wanna have
this taken care of too?

Mrs. Colby, leave the papers.
I'll make sure that he reads them,

signs them, and I will return
them to you personally. Okay?

Thank you, Leslie.

Hmm. Smart girl.

Good help is hard to find
these days. Hang on to her.

Heh. I know that look, Alexis.

Don't get any ideas
about raiding my company.

If I do, you'll be
the second to know.

Well, you're in great
shape in the polls,

and with Jeff coming aboard,
things will only get better.

You know something,
son? My offer still stands.

I'd love to have you
involved in the campaign too.

You could be a
very positive force.

I'm glad you feel that way because
that's why I wanted to see you.

I would like to be a positive
force, but not in the campaign.

With the football team.

The football team?

That's right.
I'd like to buy it.

You would? Heh.

Well, we've got a mediocre
record, our attendance is down.

I've been thinking about
unloading the franchise.

Dad, I've been
watching the team play.

I've been running films
and studying their mistakes.

I think I can turn it around.

And just how do you
plan to swing this miracle?

With a strategy I
learned from my father.

When there's a tough job to
do, find the right man to do it.

[UPBEAT POP MUSIC
PLAYING ON SPEAKERS]

[DOOR OPENS THEN CLOSES]

[CHUCKLES]

Are you training
for the Olympics?

Hi. I'm just keeping in shape.

- How about taking a break for lunch?
- No, I've got things to do around here.

Come on. I hardly
ever see you anymore.

I'm just not in the
mood right now.

[KRYSTLE SIGHS]

How are things working
out between you and Steven?

Fine.

Sammy Jo, would you stop
that for a moment, please?

[SAMMY JO SIGHS]

I know how much you love Steven,

but are you sure you
can continue like this?

If that's what it takes to
keep my family together.

Sammy Jo, you can't deny
your feelings, your needs.

It just won't work.

You're so young and so vital,
and I don't want to see you...

What?

Sneaking around with a
bunch of one-night stands?

You know I didn't mean
that. I'm just concerned.

I appreciate your
concern, but I can handle it.

I've got other things in
my life. Danny, the ranch.

- Your exercises.
- Yeah, that helps too.

But it doesn't take the place
of the kind of an intimacy

between a man and a woman.

That's what worries me.

Don't worry. I'm not
gonna do anything crazy.

The truth is, when it
comes to available men,

I don't even know any.

I'm fine. Really.

I'm tired of writing speeches.

- Come here and talk to me.
- Ha, ha.

[KRYSTLE SIGHS]

Would you believe it? Steven
wants to buy my football team.

- Why? I thought you said...
- Yes, I did.

I said it's going
badly, and it is.

But he thinks he can
turn the franchise around.

And you know something?
I believe he can.

Blake, did he talk about how he
and Sammy Jo were getting along?

Mm-mm. Why?

Well, I saw her today, and...

Well, I know how hard
she's trying to make this work.

I just worry.

Oh, of course you do.
That's because you love them.

Maybe I'm making
too much of this.

Yes, maybe you are, darling.

I mean, after all, things
are going so well now.

Adam and Dana are married.

Jeff and Fallon are
back in our home.

Steven's arrangement with Sammy
Jo seems to be working out very well.

We've got a beautiful
little daughter,

and I've got a lovely
lady in my arms.

All is well with the world.

- I hope you're right about this family.
- I am right.

They're all okay,
I'm sure of it.

Gerard, when my wife phoned,

did she say anything other than
she was having dinner with someone?

No, Mr. Adam, that
was the message.

- She didn't say with whom?
- No, sir.

- Or where?
- I'm afraid not.

[KNOCKING ON DOOR]

Thank you, Gerard.

[DOOR OPENS]

Thank you.

- Darling, did you get my message?
- Yes, I did.

Mm. I'm sorry I'm a little
later than I expected to be.

- You're not angry with me, are you?
- No, not really.

But I'm a little concerned about
this habit of yours of just disappearing.

You fly off to Billings
and you leave me a note,

and now tonight, you
have dinner with someone

and I hear about it from Gerard.

I know. I'm sorry, but I
couldn't explain it to Gerard,

and you weren't in the
house, but it wasn't a waste.

Listen, come sit down.
I have such news.

I had dinner with
this wonderful woman.

I told her about the problem,

how you and I want to
have a child and how I can't...

You found a doctor
who can help us?

- Oh, Dana.
- No.

She's not a doctor.
She works for an agency.

A very reputable agency.

What kind of agency?

They screen couples
who can't have children

and then they set
up an adoption.

Adoption? I don't want to adopt.

I want a child who's
my own flesh and blood.

I know. I know how you feel.

Darling, a child
is a child of love,

not because it has your own
blood, but because you love it

and nurture it and watch
it grow and share its joy.

And that child needs you and loves
you just as much as you need and love it.

Blake and Alexis adopted you,

and they love you just as
much as any of their children.

- You can't deny that.
- No, of course I can't.

Adam, the woman said that
it might be a matter of time

before a child became available,

but that we're very
good candidates.

Look, Dana, I get the whole
picture and it was good of you to try,

but I don't want to talk about
this anymore, if you don't mind.

- I'm only thinking of you.
- I appreciate that.

And I thank you.

Adam?

[DOOR CLOSES]

Don't you understand?
This is the only way.

You know, this
is really flattering.

I mean, most guys, they get
cut, they get told by the coach.

What am I doing here?

You're here because
I sent for you.

You know, you are really
some piece of work, Harris.

You're arrogant, and
you've got a big mouth.

Yeah. Those are some
of my good qualities.

Look, I appreciate the,
uh, audience at the ranch,

but I don't have to
hang around and listen.

- Just cut me a check and I'm gone.
- It's not gonna be that easy.

What is that supposed to mean?

This afternoon I had a
meeting with the coaches.

As of today, Skip Maitland
has been put on waivers.

That makes you the
number-one quarterback.

Your father know what you're
planning to do with the team?

The only Carrington you
have to worry about is me.

I'm the owner now
and I call all the sh*ts.

And your decision
was based on what?

Well, let's just say it wasn't
based on your personality.

Heh. Look, man, let's
just cut to the bottom line.

What do you expect from me?

I expect you to deliver.

Heh. That's what
I was afraid of.

[JOSH SIGHS]

Uh, I mean, your lifestyle isn't
exactly a secret in the locker room,

so if there are any strings
attached to this job...

Look, Harris.

I don't give a damn what you
think you know or what you've heard.

Believe me, the only
place I want your body

is down on that
football field. Got it?

Yeah. Right.

You said you can
win with this team.

- Yeah, I can win.
- Okay, here's the deal.

You win, and I'll guarantee
you a contract big enough

- to knock that chip off your shoulder.
- And if I don't?

You're history.

SAMMY JO: Sorry I'm late.

Josh Harris, I'd like you to
meet my wife, Sammy Jo.

I guess I should say my ex-wife.

- Hi.
- Hi.

Looks like you got
yourself a quarterback.

[CHUCKLES]

Are you awake?

Fallon?

Please, Jeff, I'm trying
to get some sleep.

I already apologized
for last night.

I had no idea how long
the party was going to last.

You could have excused yourself.

You knew I was sitting there
waiting for you for over an hour.

I don't know what else
to say other than I'm sorry.

- When the kids come out, things...
- No, things will be easier?

You're expecting a
lot from our children.

You know, last
night, when I left here,

I thought we had a chance of
getting things back together again,

and that we'd talk the way
we use to talk. I miss that.

And I miss you.

Just leave me alone.

[JEFF SIGHS]

[KRISTINA CRYING]

KRYSTLE: It's all right
now, darling. Don't cry.

Everything's gonna be all right.

You don't have to be afraid.

Mommy's here with you.

It was just a bad
dream, sweetheart.

Now Mommy's here with you,
and everything's gonna be all right.

Okay?

Okay, Mommy.

MAN [ON TV]: A hit-and-run
accident on Lane...

[g*nf*re ON TV]

MAN [ON TV]: And for
Cindy's mother and father,

this is a very special day.

We were devastated.
We wanted a baby.

MAN [ON TV]: We never
thought we could have a baby.

It's a miracle.
She's truly a miracle.

When this couple learned that
she couldn't have a child of her own,

they immediately contacted
Attorney Emmett Houser,

who specializes in
finding surrogate mothers,

women who will carry a man's
child when his own wife can't.

So far, Attorney Houser has
brought happiness to over couples.

His surrogate mother program
has been extremely successful.

WOMAN [ON TV]: It's a miracle.
MAN : We never thought we'd have...

You can have a baby, Adam.

You can.
