01x04 - The Last Laugh / The Show Must Go On

Post by bunniefuu »

(MUSIC PLAYING)

It sounds like that music
is coming from the annual school show.

Let's go see it.

We have to pick up the Care Bear Cousins,
so, let's hurry.

Quiet down, children, please.
The show is about to begin.

- Are you ready, Patty?
- I think so, Miss Peel.

You look so pretty.

(SIGHS WITH AMAZEMENT)

Lovely, Patty.
No wonder you're the star of our show.

(AUDIENCE CHATTERING)

(ENGINE CHUGGING)

Poor Patty. She needs a lot of caring.
Let's hurry!

(ENGINE REVS)

(WHOOSHING)

What's wrong, Patty?

My daddy's not in his seat.

He promised he'd see me
be the Ballerina Princess.

Maybe he's just late.

He's not late. He's not coming.
He'd rather work than see me dance.

I'm sure that's not true.

It is true. If he's not here,
what's the use of performing?

MISS PEEL: Patty, please!

We can't do the show
without the Ballerina Princess.

So, what are we going to do?

ALL: We must find Patty!

Care Bear Cousins, you go inside
and see what's going on.

And see if you can find Patty's dad.

We'll go and find Patty.

I'm sorry, children. Patty's a little upset.

We'll start the show
as soon as she gets back.

- PLAYFUL HEART: Miss Peel.
- Oh, my goodness! Who are you?

I'm Brave Heart Lion,
and this is Bright Heart Raccoon,

Gentle Heart Lamb
and Playful Heart Monkey.

- We can't start the show without Patty.
- We know.

The Care Bears are looking
for Patty right now.

In the meantime, we'll try to find her dad.

Today is such an important day for Patty.
I hope her father shows up.

Don't worry, Miss Peel.
Your show will go on.

I found her. I found her!

(SHOUTING)

(GRUNTS)

(CHUCKLING) I guess Tenderheart
really fell for Patty.

- Where's Patty?
- Over there.

LOVE-A-LOT:
Now, that little ballerina needs some love.

- Yup, this is the right address.
- Lf her father works way up there,

no wonder he doesn't know
his daughter needs him.

That job is a long way from everything.

(HONKING)

- LOVE-A-LOT: Hi, Patty.
- Who are you?

- We're the Care Bears.
- And we care about you.

Then you're the only ones that do.

You know that's not true.

Think of all your friends
waiting for you backstage.

Waiting for their ballerina.

They'll just have to do the show
without me.

We know why you're so upset.

My daddy promised he'd be there
to see me dance!

I'm sure he's just busy at work.

I know he'd rather watch you perform.

I love to dance, but it's not the same
without my father in the audience.

I'm sure he loves you, Patty.

- Maybe, he's just a little bit late.
- How could he be late?

Just as you have an obligation
to your classmates,

your daddy has an obligation to his job.

But, which is more important?

I think you're going to find out very soon.

(HORN HONKING)

- Mr. Johnson?
- Who are you?

We're the Care Bear Cousins,
and we're worried about Patty.

- Patty? How do you know my little girl?
- We went to her school to see her dance.

And she's very upset that you're not there.

It's not really my fault.
I have to stay here and do this work.

- Do you know where Patty is right now?
- Why, of course.

She's at school.

- And you're not!
- It's that important to her, isn't it?

Of course it is.

I hope I still have time to make it.

- Patty ran away, Mr. Johnson.
- Ran away?

- But, why?
- Because you weren't there.

Here, let me do it.
Now, let's get to Patty's school.

MR. POOL: No you don't, Mr. Johnson!

Get back to work!

- I said, "Back to work!"
- But, Mr. Pool,

I have to go to my daughter's school.
She's in the pageant.

And you're on the job!
Forget it, Johnson, you can't go!

- But...
- No "Buts!"

You've got an important meeting
tomorrow.

Now, you make a choice.
Your job, or else!

Not a very friendly type.

That's no excuse, Finster!
That's a lot of bologna!

Cousins, prepare to Call.

Three, two, one,

Cousins Call!

So, Finster, how's that nice
little family of yours?

(LAUGHS)

Aren't you going to convince me
to go back inside?

We can't tell you what to do, Patty.
It's up to you.

No, it's not.
My father made the choice for me.

He's not there, so I'm not there.

- But, you're the Ballerina Princess.
- A symbol of happiness and love.

We know you're not happy,

but making your friends happy
will make you feel happy, too.

I guess I should at least try.

(DOOR OPENS)

I'm ready, Miss Peel.

Ladies and gentlemen,
parents and students,

we are sorry for the delay,
but our pageant is ready to begin.

It is my great pleasure to introduce
the star of this year's pageant,

Patty Johnson,
our beautiful Ballerina Princess.

- I wish she'd put her heart into it.
- It's a broken heart.

All the music in the world
can't mend a broken heart.

BRAVE HEART: But, maybe a father can.

(ALL CHEERING)

- Quiet! Patty's dancing!
- I wonder if she's seen him yet.

- Not yet.
- Don't worry. She will.

Look how proud Patty's dad is.

Uh-oh.

- Who's that?
- That's Mr. Johnson's boss.

Mr. Pool.

Beautiful daughter
you've got there, Johnson.

Wonderful dancer.

Mission accomplished.
