You've been at this forever, Dorothy.

It's pointless.

How can you say that, Ada?

[eerie rumble]

Can't you feel him?

He's close now.

You keep on doing the same thing,

but nothing ever happens.

Perhaps if I had some assistance.

[grunting]

- On three, two, one.

- [panting]

[both grunt]

- [thudding]

[clattering]

[switch clicks]

[curious music playing]

[panting]

I told you it would work.

[music swells, ends]

[lively instrumental music playing]

- [cheery orchestral music playing]

- [birds twittering]

[Nina] Kinsey! Bode!

Time for lunch!

[music continues]

[fluttering]

[whooshing]

[Kinsey] Ha!

[Bode exhales]

- b*at you again.

- This game is rigged!

It's not like I chose to be a sparrow.

- Although, it does have some advantages.

- [key clicks]

I can always get my bird friends

to poop on your car.

You don't have any bird friends.

- Not yet.

- [chuckles]

So, I think almost all the prep work

for the wedding's finally done, and

Oh, I wanted to show you guys something.

I never noticed this before.

It fell off the bookshelf

in the winter study.

Isn't it cool?

I think there might be

something magical about it.

You also thought that

about the record player.

And the weird old squirrel figurine.

Okay, okay, fair, but look.

Keyhouse is in it.

Why would someone make a snow globe

with their house in it if it wasn't?

But it doesn't have a keyhole.

Maybe, and just hear me out,

maybe it's just

a very cool antique snow globe.

[utensils clinking on plates]

You hear anything from Tyler?

Well, yesterday, he liked one of my texts,

so we can assume he's still alive.

Well, good.

That's good?

Ah. I guess the bar

is even lower than I thought.

He wanted time on his own.

We have to respect that.

When he's ready,

I'm sure he'll start communicating more.

In the meantime, we just need

to carry on with our own thing.

It's been two months since he left.

I kind of figured he'd be back already.

Yeah, but we've been having

a lot of fun of our own, right?

Well, yeah.

And I'd say we're doing pretty great.

I mean, Dodge is gone.

We haven't heard anything from Eden.

Things are finally kind of normal.

Well, except for you.

You're the weirdo.

[chuckles]

[waves crashing]

[foreboding music playing]

[music intensifies]

[dramatic music playing]

[rumbling]

[music stops]

[gasps]

Where is it?

[suspenseful music playing]

[music intensifies]

[roaring]

Oh, so, um, Duncan said Brian's mother

can't be seated within 50 feet

of his great aunt Sharon.

He didn't explain.

Okay, I'll switch her out with one

of Duncan's Fish-Head College friends.

Great.

I think everything else looks good

unless you spot any other powder kegs.

[Kinsey] The wedding's Saturday.

I think it's safe

to give his seat to someone else.

What about Cousin Frank from Phoenix?

I don't think I can handle that many

knock-knock jokes in one evening.

- They're a family tradition.

- Your dad's side of the family.

Maybe you could ask someone.

Me? No.

You're entitled to a plus-one.

Why don't you ask Josh?

Oh. Um

I I don't think I'm ready.

Jamie's already gonna be there

hanging out with Bode.

I think it would actually be nice

if you asked him.

[chuckles softly] I'll think about it.

Nebraska's nice, but what can I say?

I'm a man of the sea.

[music continues]

[doorbell rings]

[door opens]

[sighs] Ellie!

- [chuckles]

- [Ellie sighs]

You're probably wondering where I've been.

Oh, you don't have to explain.

Do you feel any different?

Not knowing about magic,

having that separate me from my kids

was hard.

Now we can connect.

I know what they've been through

and what you and Rendell

and your friends went through.

So then, you know my part.

Bringing back Lucas

is what started it all.

Oh, you had no way of knowing

what would happen.

Besides, I think the keys

work on you unconsciously.

They wanna be used.

Good, bad, they don't care.

I'm incredibly sorry

about what happened to you.

I know the kids feel horrible.

It's not on them.

It was all Dodge. It's not their fault.

Have you heard from Lucas?

I don't expect to.

He needed to get out of here.

Start fresh someplace else.

Can't say I blame him.

Honestly, I wanted

to start someplace else too.

But Rufus, he had his heart set

on coming back here, so

[inhales sharply]we're renting

a little place down by the water.

I couldn't bring myself

to move back into the old house.

Sure, that makes sense.

I'm expecting

a lot of looks and questions.

Apparently, everyone thinks I was found

wandering outside of Pittsburgh

and that I couldn't even

remember my own name.

Better than the truth.

Ellie.

What was it like?

That other place.

[solemn music playing]

It was

like time and space

didn't even exist over there.

And I was just

drifting in

It's kind of like

trying to remember a bad dream where

all that's left of it after

is that feeling.

And it's, um

it's a feeling

that I hope I never have again.

[music continues]

[indistinct chatter]

[Gordie] This film,

it's exactly what I was hoping for.

It's gonna be just what Matheson needs

to get our tourism revenue back on track

after the effect of recent tragedies.

[Zadie] I hope so, Mr. Shaw.

We are just so happy

that you hired us to do it.

I can hear the plummy voice

of the narrator.

"Matheson Massachusetts,

home of revolutionary history,

stunning cliffs,

rich New England clam chowder"

And the occasional mass fatality.

Doug.

[mouthing] No.

Seriously. I mean,

maybe we should lean into that.

We We could use this film to

to really target the dark tourism crowd.

And how about this.

Matheson Massachusetts.

Home of unexplained massacres.

You should check out

the tourism numbers at Chernobyl.

- He's joking.

- [Gordie] Oh.

[laughs] Chernobyl, yeah. That

- Funny. Yeah.

- is funny.

Ooh. I better run.

- [grunts]

- Oh.

Keep up the good work here.

Got it. Will do. Thank you.

Yeah. Are you trying to torpedo our one

good source of funding and equipment?

I'm just trying to make this balancing act

a little bit easier.

[Zadie] And action.

And Abby.

Great. Great.

Keep it coming.

Perfect.

Okay. Now you sense him.

- And turn!

- [gasps]

[Zadie] And cut!

Ahh! [laughs]

Guys, that was beautiful.

We just got B-roll for the tourism film

and a Splattering pick-up

all on the same day.

- Boom.

- [Zadie] Boom.

And Bode found this new key

that turns you into an animal.

- Did you and your friends use that one?

- A couple times, yeah.

You did? What animal were you?

Uh, I think I was an owl.

That's so cool.

So, did you just fly around Keyhouse and

Um, sorry, Ruf.

I'd just rather not talk about it,

if that's okay?

That's fine.

So, what do you say we split the meatloaf?

[sighing loudly] Can I get you something?

Oh my goodness.

- Ellie Whedon?

- Hi, Margie.

Oh. [chuckles]

I'm so happy that you're back!

We were all so relieved when we heard

the news that you'd been found.

That's very kind. Thank you. [chuckles]

So we will start

with two vanilla milkshakes, please.

Yeah. Yeah. I'll be right back with those.

[sighs]

I know this isn't easy for you, Mom,

but I think it's good we came back.

I want you to be happy.

You can be happy here too.

If you try. I think.

Will you try?

Yeah.

Okay.

[crickets chirping]

I've got to remember

to call the caterers tomorrow

and update the number of vegetarian meals.

We're in the dinner zone.

Where else is there a snowflake?

[chuckles softly]

I think I know where it goes.

Here, come with me.

[adventurous music playing]

[clicks]

I told you it was magic.

Should we try it?

We should probably wait for Kinsey.

Yeah, okay.

[inhales] You're right. Though she did say

she might not be back until late.

All right, I guess we could try.

But only for a second.

[music continues]

[sighs]
