[Narrator]
Previously on X-Men...

Wolverine, you know
this madman?

[Wolverine]
I tangled with Omega Red

before either of you were born.

The Soviets created him.

Red's got his own plans
for this country,

and worst of all,
nothing hurts him.

[Colossus]
You defeated him!

I got lucky.

The deepest cold
held Omega Red prisoner.

Perhaps it can still stop him.

No, not again.

For another lifetime.

Freeze!

[grunting]

[theme music playing]

Colonel, I think I found it!

Sir, come quickly!

-Help me get it out!
-Careful!

You don't know
what you're dealing with.

But the guy's an ice cube, sir.

You'll do what you're told,
soldier.

Last time this thing
thawed out,

he tore a small country
in half in less than a week.

Now get the restraints!

We're not gonna make
the same mistakes
the Soviets did.

This living w*apon
has a job to do.

[Colonel]
How do you feel?

We know you can hear us.

We wish to make you an offer.

I do not make deals
with imperialists.

I was created
to fight your kind.

That w*r is over. We won.

But you have unique knowledge
and abilities that we need.

Why should I help you?

Because we can give you
something in return

that I think
you'll find intriguing.

What could that be?

We will make you
human once again.

Do not mock me!

It cannot be done!

Medical science
has progressed a great deal

since you were altered.

You wish what from me?

[beeping]

[Colonel]
Your help in cleaning up a mess

left by your government.

A Sovietnuclear submarine
was abandoned in deep water

near Hilo, Hawaii, about
120 miles from Pearl Harbor.

We need you
to bring it up for us.

Its position is unstable.
As you can imagine,

its reactor
and warheads concern us.

You can survive any radioactive
toxicity found inside.

You know
the Soviet security codes,

some of which
have been misplaced

in your country's
recent chaotic evolution.

Why would you trust me to help?

We don't.

You have been implanted
with a sealed vial

of liquid nitrogen.

Betray us,
and you shall regret it.

I like dealing
with serious people.

Your terms are satisfactory,

with one small addition.

-Name it.
-You have your insurance,

I would like some as well.

I require two shipmates
to accompany me.

Old friends of mine.

Their names are

Wolverine and Storm.

[Wolverine]
Somebody wake me up
from this nightmare,

'cause I've got to be dreaming.

Who do these genius
spy-catchers think
they're dealing with?

Winnie the Pooh?

They are
fully aware, Wolverine.

They also realize
what could happen

if that
submarine's reactor core

were to split open.

The liquid nitrogen implant

seems a reasonable precaution.

For a Boy Scout!

Omega Red eats the stuff
for breakfast.

Would you prefer it
if I took your place

as Omega's hostage?

What, and miss all the fun?

Not a chance.

I know he's gonna
pull something.

And when he does,
I'm gonna be ready.

[Colonel]
I want to thank you all

for agreeing to join
our salvage effort.

We all know what's at stake.

You don't have a clue, bub.

Speak when you're spoken to,
mister!

You come a step closer, pal,

and you're gonna eat that hand.

Do not worry, Colonel.

I did not expect
old wounds to heal easily,

even for Wolverine.

It is a great irony, no,

a man whose body
is able to heal itself,

but whose spirit never can.

-I knew it.
-Wolverine, no!

Cut the phony philosophy.

Let's just do it.

What fairy tale
did you tell them
to make them trust you?

Does it look
like they trust me?

[growling]

Control your anger, Wolverine.

A fight would surely breach
the hull.

At these depths,
none of us would survive.

Do not worry, Storm.

Life is precious to me.

At least my own life,

which this mission
shall return to me.

I have been promised
my humanity, Wolverine,

something you above all others

should be able to appreciate.

It can't be done.

Please, Logan,
control yourself.

You know small spaces
overwhelm me.

You must stay clear-headed
if we are to survive.

I see it!

Mission control,
this is the mini-sub Chios.

[Colonel]
This is mission control.
Read you, Chios.

Target in visual range.

We see it, Chios.

Remember, dock gently.

That ledge could
give way at any time.

We understand, mission control.

[beeping]

[Wolverine]
Easy does it, Storm.

If those
Soviet wise guys built subs

like they built Chernobyl,

I don't want to give this one

any reason to lose its cool.

-Hey!
-I am sorry.

-[alarms blaring]
-These controls
are rather vague.

[Omega Red]
Russian saying states,

"Any landing
you can walk away from

is good landing."

[laughs]

We don't.

[beeping]

[Wolverine growling]

All right, Chios,
let's move it.

After you, comrade.

[creaking]

[Wolverine]
An island vacation,
with Omega Red,

in a toxic nuclear powder keg,

three miles underwater.

Yeah, this is
pretty much Shangri-la.

-We are inside,
mission control.
-Yeah.

[Colonel]
Omega Red, systems status.

One moment!

Americans, always so impatient!

Well, what do you know.

They ought to use this tub

in one of those battery ads

with the rabbit.

Control rods withdrawn.

All systems operational.

Engage props!

[Wolverine exclaiming]

-[Storm screaming]
-[Colonel]]What's wrong
down there?

Nothing, Colonel.

Just getting our sea legs back.

So let's find a place
to park this thing
and get out of here!

[Colonel]
Good work!

Now let's bring her home.

Oh, now, Colonel,

that hardly seems fair.

[Colonel]
Don't play with me, mister.

You know we can
take you out in a second.

Yes, something about giving me

the big chill

by activating an implant.

How foolish of me to forget.

I knew it!

No!

[growling]
Let me go, Storm!

This guy's playing
the whole world for fools!

You do not understand!

Yes, Logan.

You forget the air
inside this vessel is toxic.

For you, but not for me.

He need only tear these suits
to stop us both!

Your healing powers
would eventually help you.

You might survive.

I would not.

-[beeping]
-Get me the US Naval Command
at Pearl.

We have a situation! Code Red!

[Wolverine]
All right, what do you want?

[Omega Red]
How kind of you
to ask, Comrade.

But you have been
so generous already.

My own submarine, missiles

and the two who froze me,

powerless to resist.

I don't care if my lungs melt!

[grunting]

I'm stopping this guy!

[Wolverine roaring]

[Omega Red screams]

[grunting]

Wind! Repel him!

Logan!

[Wolverine coughing]

What was I saying about
not needing these lungs?

I shall get us to the mini-sub!

[Storm panting]

We are almost there!

[screaming]

Enough! You wish my terms?

You, who would offer
a living w*apon

something as pitiful
as his humanity?

I haveprogrammed
the missiles,

one directed at each

of the world's
15 largest cities.

And what I want, Colonel,

is to watch them burn!

[Beast]
Like vilified Cassandra,

we all may pay a price
for Wolverine's foresight.

The craft is rising steadily,

but it is still far too deep
for us to engage.

[Xavier]
Stay with them!

Navy planes, submarines
and surface ships

are all on the way!

Have you armed
the depth charges?

Armed and ready for deployment.

Can't you boys figure out

a better way
to deal with that octopus

than b*ating up Storm
and Logan?

It is only
a last resort, Rogue.

But given the fact that
Omega Red has nuclear missiles,

it must remain an option
until the Navy gets there.

It is our understanding
that the Soviet
submersible vehicle

must rise to a far
shallower depth

to successfully
launch its missiles.

If we can disable it,

perhaps the Navy will find

a less deadly alternative.

[Colonel]
What do you mean ten minutes?

He could be
at launch depth in five!

Colonel, your target
is 120 miles from Pearl,

and sub-chaser aircraft
are just not that quick.

My F-18s will get there faster,
but they're not much good

unless the sub surfaces.

If your agency had warned us,

we would have been
better prepared.

My country created
many great weapons,

but never had the will
to use them.

Is it not
a great sadness, Storm,

to be created never to be used?

Weapons do not have feelings.

Oh, if only that were true.

Soon every ship and plane

within 1,000 miles
will be bearing down on us.

Are you so tired of life?

On the contrary,

only someone denied life
as I was,

for over a quarter
of a century,

can appreciate it
quite so well.

I will launch
my missiles and return

to the depths of the ocean

before any force
can reach me.

The world will tumble
into chaos

and I can choose
my time to emerge,

ready to pick up the pieces.

[all shouting]

[computer beeping]

Who can be up there so soon?

[beeping]

What was that?

It registered as
a depth charge, sir.

I know that, sailor,
but from where?

An angry cloud?

Radar shows no planes

or ships in the area.

[Officer]
Confirmed, sir.
Could be a stealth craft.

Sounds like that got
the old boy's attention.

I believe that Omega Red

forgot that Wolverine
and Storm's microphones

are still operative.

[Omega Red]
No anti-submarine plane

could have arrived so quickly!

[Beast]
I doubt our nudging
will delay Omega Red

from reaching
m*ssile launch depth.

[Omega Red]
In a moment,
the fireworks shall begin.

Now, a moment
to level out,

and we can begin!

-[beeping]
-Launch depth.

[beeping]

[Storm groaning]

[exclaiming]

It will do them no good!

Lightning strike!

[grunting]

If you can't stop him,
at least prepare

to take out the missiles!

[Officer]
My F-18s will arrive soon, sir.

They can take out
the sub's missiles.

But there is
the possible problem

-of warhead override.
-Explain!

[Officer]
Normally, warheads don't arm

until they're near
their targets.

But sir, if this maniac

can reprogram
their arming sequence,

they could come out hot.

[Beast]
Our instruments
indicate Omega Red

has reached launch depth.

Any suggestions?

Damage himas much as you can

with depth charges.

The Navy will arrive soon
to help.

But if he starts launching,

you must do everything
in your power

to stop the missiles.

No matter what the cost.

Say goodbye to
the world you knew!

[Storm]
You cannot launch!

Millions shall perish!

As they must,

so that millions more
shall fear me.

There's been a launch!

Where are those F-18s?

[Officer]
On their way, sir!

Still a minute out of range.

[Beast]
We are in luck

and still alive.

The warheads
are in standard pre-armed mode.

Hang on, Hank.
We got four birds left
in this turkey sh**t.

My missiles!

Sailor, I don't register
your F-18s yet!

Who's knocking
out these missiles?

[Officer]
Don't know, sir.

[Beast]
The missiles' acceleration rate
is incredible.

I estimate five seconds

until the fifth one
is out of range.

Just get me a chance.

[beeping]

[Beast]
Oh, dear.

Now what?

There is no way Navy planes

could have arrived so fast.

Someone was lying in wait!

It's you X-Men! I know it!

[computer beeping]

No, impossible!

Looks like those Navy boys

decided to get off
their backsides

and join the party.

To paraphrase Cowper,

"They delivered us
when bound and when bleeding,

healed our wounds
sought us wandering,

set us right,
turned our darkness into light"

I was made a living w*apon.

They cannot deny me!

The warheads.

Hear me!

Navy frequency
originating from the submarine.

[Omega Red]
Fire upon the missiles again

and the Hawaiian coastal cities

shall be a memory.

The warheads are armed.

Let them try to stop me now.

That does it.

What do you propose?

I'm going fishing.

Rogue! Wait!

Even now it is too far down.

You cannot make it!

[Omega Red laughing]

I have no more use

for hostages.

[both screaming]

[alarm beeping]

Come on, Wolverine!

Let us get out of here.

It does not matter!
The missiles shall launch.

[gasping]

[coughing]

Rogue? What is happening?

I bent his boat.

[coughing]

[Wolverine]
Where is he?

Something
att*cked the submarine.

It is listing.

I do not believe

it can launch more missiles.

Is he still alive?

Perhaps.

But we are going home.

What?

[screaming]
No! No!

[Beast]
Though the immediate thr*at
has passed,

I fear much remains unresolved.

Storm's claustrophobic trauma
will pass.

I am more concerned
about Logan.

His feelings about Omega Red
are more personal.

More deeply rooted.

I'm sure he feels
he could've done more.

He's out there.

I can smell him.
