is about to appear ♪

♪ He's whizzing over
to whisk you away ♪

♪ On a fabulous journey
today ♪

- He's coming!
- ♪ Now he's arrived

♪ In the Thinga-ma-jigger,
the thing that he drives ♪

♪ He's a cat
and he's oodles of fun ♪

♪ With his hairy helpers,
Thing Two and Thing One ♪

- Whoo-hoo!



- Whoa!



[laughter]



- Whoa!
- Wahoo!

- ♪ It's the Cat in the Hat

♪ All of our adventures
start like that ♪

♪ Wherever you're going,
wherever you're at ♪

♪ The Cat in the Hat
knows a lot about... ♪

- ♪ He knows a lot about,
he knows a lot about ♪

[laughter]



- I can't do this
without my special hat.

Ready, Sally?
- Ready.

Okay, Fish.
We have a surprise for you.

- Oh.
- We know how much

you love boats.

- And you've always wanted
a boat named after you,

so, ta-da!

Introducing the SS "Fish."

- Oh.

- We looked all over

and found this in the garage.

- All right,
time for the SS "Fish"

to set sail.

both: We did it!

- [gasps]

- What's wrong, Fish?

Don't you like it?

- Look!
- [gasps]

The SS "Fish" is sinking!

- It sunk.

- [sighs]

[hopeful music]
- Cat!

- [unintelligible gurgling]

- What did you say?

[jaunty music]

- Don't worry.
I got it.

- But why did it sink?

Oh, that's our problem.

There's a hole in our boat.

- I really liked having a boat
named after me.

[sighs]

- Is there another boat
that could be named after Fish?

- Hm...

Maybe we could make
our own boat.

- Ooh.

- But what can we make
a boat from?

- Something that floats...

- And doesn't have
a hole in it.

- This rock doesn't have
a hole in it,

but I don't think
rocks float.

- Nope.

What about this paper?



- It's floating!



- But not for long.

I don't see
anything else we can use.

- I guess that means
no SS "Fish."

- Sorry, Fish.

We tried.

- You mustn't give up;
no, you can't give up yet.

If you just try it again,
you can do it, I bet.

- But how, Cat?

We don't know how
to make a boat.

- Not a boat
that will float, anyways.

- Hm...

Ah!

I know just the place
where we can go

to find out
what you need to know.

The rare Floating Island
in the Buoyant Sea.

- Wait, don't
all islands float?

- Well, an island looks
like it's floating,

because it's surrounded
by water,

but it actually goes
all the way down

to the floor of the sea.

- But you're taking us
to an island that does float?

- Yes, in the Buoyant Sea.

It's the perfect place
to find out about floating.

- All right.
Let's go!

- Your mother will not mind
at all if you do!



- Mom!

Can Sally and I
go to Floating Island

to find out how to make
a boat that floats

and name it after Fish?

- Sure.
Fish will love it.

- We can go!
We can go!

- I know!
I know!

To the Thinga-Ma-Jigger!



Buckle up!

[horn blares]



- Flip the Jigger-Ma-Whizzer!

[springing sound]

[upbeat fanfare]

- Isn't this fun?

♪ Here we go, go, go

♪ On an adventure

♪ The Thinga-Ma-Jigger
is up and away ♪

all: ♪ Go, go, go, go
on an adventure ♪

♪ We're flying with
The Cat in the Hat today ♪

- We're about to set down
on an island that floats.

What a place to find out
what you need to make boats.



- Cat, what kind of island
is this?

I don't see
any water anywhere.

- Don't worry, Sally.

Come with me to see
what we can see.

- [laughs]

[rumbling]
- Whoa.

What was that?

- It felt like
the ground moved.

- That's because it did move!Look!

- See?

The sea.

[laughs]

- But now it's between us
and the Thinga-Ma-Jigger.

- What are going to do?

- If only the Thinga-Ma-Jigger
could fly itself over to us.

- Good thinking, Sally.

When you're floating away

and in search of a crew,

it's a good time to call

on Thing One and Thing Two.

[whistles]

both: Whee!

[laughing]

- And they forgot
the Thinga-Ma-Jigger.

- Oh, no!
- Now what?

- Oh, why did we come
to this place, Cat?

- We came here to find out
how to make a boat.

- And now we really need
a boat

to get back
to the Thinga-Ma-Jigger.

- So we're in
exactly the right place,

right?
both: Right.

- There must be something
we can use

to make a boat.

- Hm.
There's nothing but rocks.

- And we know
they don't float.

[doorbell rings]
- Aha!

Sounds like
a special delivery.



"The answer you seek
is in front of your eyes,

but finding it might take you
several tries."

- In front of our eyes?

We better look harder.



- Ahem.

Aren't you
forgetting something?

- Sorry, Fish.

We were so worried
about finding

something to make our boat
from, we...

[strains]

Huh?

[squelching sound]

Nick! Cat!

Come here!

- What is it?

- Floating Island
isn't made of rock.

It's made of clay!

- Like the stuff we play with
in art class.

But what's that got to do
with our boat?

- Hm.
An island of clay.

I don't know
what to make of it.

On second thought,

I know exactly
what to make of it.

[humming]

Ta-da!

- That's it!

- We can make a boat
out of the clay.

- The note said

it's in front of our eyes,

and this clay is everywhere.

- Now that makes me smile.

See?

- Let's get as much clay
as we can.

- Does clay float?

- This is Floating Island,

and it's made of clay.

- So clay must float!

- There's only one way
to find out.

- I hope you're right.

We're floating farther away!

- Cross your fingers, everyone.

[dejected music]

[sighs]
I guess we were wrong.

We can't make a boat
out of clay.

- And I guess
the note was wrong.

- Impossible!

My hat is never wrong.

- "What you seek
is in front of your eyes."

- "But finding it
might take you several tries."

The clay was right in front
of our eyes.

- But we haven't given it
several tries.

There's lots of colors of clay.
[gasps]

Maybe only one color floats.

- We've got to try
every color.

[jaunty music]



[laughter]



Okay, let's try blue first.

- How about green?

[dejected music]



- Yellow has to work.



No.



- This is the last color.

It's gotta float!



- What are we doing wrong?

- There's gotta be an answer.

- And it's right in front
of our eyes.

- Whee!

[excited chattering]

- Things, this is no time
to fool around!

We're trying to think.

[gasps]Look!

Some of the clay
is floating.

- But we tried
all those colors already.

- But we didn't try
different shapes.

Look, that flat piece floated
for a second,

and then sank.

- Because the water
came over the sides.

- But the one
that is kind of curved

is floating.

- You might be onto something.

- I wonder if that's why boats
have sides, kind of like that.

- To keep the water out.

What would happen
if we made a bigger one?

- There's only one way
to find out!

[upbeat music]

- Let's see.

[strains]

- It floats!

- That's great, but...

how are we all
gonna fit in?

It's too small.

- It's not too small
for the Things.

- Whoo-hoo!

- All we need
is a paddle.

Then they can go back
and get the Thinga-Ma-Jigger.

- Hm.
The last time I saw my paddle,

it was under the piano.

[thud resonating
through piano strings]

Aha!
I knew it!

Here you go.

I believe
you know what to do.

both: Uh-huh.

- This is the big test.

- [barking rhythmically]

- Will you look
at that boat float?

both: Yeah!

[upbeat music]

- [excited chattering]



- Hooray!
You did it.

[cheering]

- Now we can make
a new SS "Fish."

- But wait.
We didn't bring any clay back.

- No!
[sighs]

- And after all we learned
about making clay float.

- But clay can't be
the only thing that floats.

- And what we learned
is that the shape

helps make it float.

- Right.
So maybe there's something else

we can change the shape of.

- Hey, how about my hat?

Tinfoil might float.

- Hats are always
a good solution.

- Maybe you can change
the shape

so it looks like a boat!

- Good idea, Sally.

- Make sure it has high sides,

like our clay boat,

and doesn't have
a hole in the bottom.

- There.
Let's see if this works.

- Please, please, please.

[drumroll]

Yay!

- We did it!

- It floats.

- I just knew you could do it.

- All right, Fish.

Are you ready
to launch your boat?

- I've been ready all day.

- I name this boat

the SS "Fish."

[jaunty music]

- [gasps]
It really does float.

- Of course it does.

It's named after me.

- ♪ Doo-doo-doo-doo
doodley doo ♪

♪ Do try this at home

Let's see what Nick and Sally
are doing at home today.



- It's fun
to test different things

to see if they floator sink.

- So we got a bunch of stuff
to try out.

See?
- I've got an idea.

Let me be
the in-water judge

to officially tell you
whether they sink

or float.

- First up is my truck.

- Wait.
What do you think?

Will it float,
or will it sink?

- Um, maybe it will float?

- How about you, Sally?

- I think it will sink.

- Well, there's only one way
to find out.

- I'll get into position.



Well, that sunk.
What's next?

- I have a tin pie plate.

I think it will float.

- It looks a little
like a boat,

so I say float.

- What do you think?

- Let's try it out.



- You were both right!

It floats.

- Oh, how clever you are.

- Testing things out
is lots of fun.

- You know, you can find things
in your home

and see if they float!

- Just make sure
there's a grown-up around.

[warm music]



- Perfect.

- Wow, that flag looks great,
Sir Knight Sally.

- Thanks, Master Builder Nick.

I'll put it up
on the high tower

for all to see.

- Careful.
That's the moat.

- How are the knights
supposed to get across?

- The king told me
to build a drawbridge

to let us in
and keep the dragons out.

- Cool.

What's a drawbridge, anyhow?

- Let me show you.

[jaunty music]

Here.
A drawbridge is the kind

that gets pulled up and down

with a rope, like this.

- Now I get it.

But how are you
gonna build one?

- I don't know.

- I do!

Let's just use the drawing.

I wanna play.

[fanfare]

- Me, too!

Why, this castle
looks perfect to play in.

- You'll have to wait, Cat.

The king says he wants
Master Builder Nick

to build a drawbridge.

- But I don't know
how to build one,

or what to build it with.

- This calls
for a change of hat.

I know the perfect place
for you to find out.

Span-sylvania.

Wanna go see?

- [laughs]
Sure.

- Your mother will not mind
at all if you do.



- Mom, can Sally and I
go with the Cat in the Hat

to Span-sylvania
to check out bridges?

- Span-sylvania?

Well, I always say,
when you get to a bridge,

cross it.

- We can go!
We can go!

- I know!
I know!

To the Thinga-Ma-Jigger.

Buckle up!

[horn blares]

- Isn't this fun?

[cheering]

- Span-sylvania,
where bridges abound.

Every style and size
of bridge can be found.

[majestic music]

- Welcome to Span-sylvania.

- Wow.

I've never seen
so many bridges.

- They're all different,

but in some ways,
they're all the same.

When you figure that out,

you'll know how to build
your own bridge.

- But are there any bridges
like the one in Nick's drawing?

- There's only one way
to find out.

This way.

Or... that way.

- Uh, this way might be better,

because look what's coming
from that way!

[sniffing]

[humming]

I smell... kids!

- A real dragon!



both: Uh-oh.
[screaming]

- [laughs merrily]

[sighs]

- Whoa, check out this bridge.

It's made of a bunch of stones
that are all stuck together.

- Nick?
- And it's super strong.

- Yeah, strong enough
to hold a great big dragon.

- Oh, kids!

- Come on, Nick!
- Ah!

- I don't know why
they're running away.

[gasps]
Maybe it's my breath.

[breathes deeply]

Nope.

- Whoa!

- That's a long way across.

- Do you think
this rope and wood bridge

will hold us?

- We'll go first
to check it out.



Made it.

Okay, your turn.

- [swallows]

- Oh, kids!



- Whoa!
It's so bouncy.

- Not like the stone bridge.

- But both bridges
get you across.

[bridge creaking]

[both gasp]

- It's not strong enough
to hold him.

- Ooh, ah...
Ooh.

Oh.

Who-oa--
[gasps]

[strains]

Uh-oh.

[yells]

[splash]

I'm okay!

- Whew.
We made it.

- Now we have a wet
angry dragon after us.

Let's go, go, go!



- [straining]



Guess I'm going
to have to fix that bridge.

[energetic music]

- How are we gonna get back
to the Thinga-Ma-Jigger

now that the bridge is gone?

- Aha!
I know a shortcut.

- I suggest we take it.

- Kids!
Oh, kids.



[all sigh]

- That-a-way!



all: Whoa!

- You might want
to rethink this shortcut, Cat.

- Oh, dear.

There is a big gap
between there and here.

- Well, we can't go backward,

because of, you know,
the dragon.

- And we can't go forward,

because of the gap.

- Maybe...
- Yes, Master Builder Nick?

- Maybe we could build
a bridge over the gap.

- That's a spectacular idea.

- But what will we build
the bridge out of?

- We crossed a bridge
made of stone,

and one made of
rope and wood.

Do you see anything like that?

- Hm...
[gasps]

How about this?

- Bamboo will make
a great bridge.

[knocks]

- It seems pretty strong.

Help me move it.

[both straining]

- Allow me.

- Thanks, Cat.

[easygoing music]

[splash]
- Oh, dear.

- It's strong enough,
but it needs to be long enough

to reach the other side.

- There's gotta be
something longer

around here somewhere.

- Well, tell me
when you see it.

- [gasps]
How about those leaves?

They look long enough.

- Leaves from
the banana cabana tree?

[laughs]
That's so bananas,

it might just work.

Shake-a, shake-a, shake-a.

Shake-a, shake-a, shake-a.

[snapping sound]
both: Whoa!

- Quick, let's put this leaf
over the gap.

[both straining]

[drumroll]

- It works!

Uh-oh.
What's the matter?

- Remember the dragon
on the rope bridge?

That bridge was long enough,

but not strong enough
to hold him up.

What if banana cabana leaves
are long enough...

- But not strong enough.
[swallows]

- When you need
something tested,

but you don't know by who,

that's the best time to call
for Thing One and Thing Two.

[whistles]

- Yoo-hoo!

[fanfare]

Ooh.[laughs]

- [chatters]

Oh.
Uh-oh.

[chattering merrily]

[easygoing music]

Ta-da!

- Phew.
It's a good thing

we tested those leaves.

They can't hold up a Thing.

- Which means we need
to find something different

to build our bridge
out of,

something long enough
and strong enough.

- You better be quick,

or we're gonna be

a dragon's lunch!

- [sniffing]

Ooh.

- Fish is right.

We've got to find something,
but where?

- Let me check in my hat.



No, not this.

No, certainly not that.

A rope?
Nope.

[all straining]

[fanfare]

- A canoe?

How's that gonna help us?

- Maybe...[gasps]

It's perfect!

- A canoe bridge!

How clever.

- Time to test it out.

- [excited chattering]

[upbeat music]

[both cheer]

- It works.

It's Thing-approved.

- That's because
it's long enough...

- And strong enough.

- You figured out what makes

all good bridges the same.

- And not a moment too soon!

- Oh, there you are!

[both scream]

[energetic music]

- That sure bridged that gap.

- A little too well.
Unless we do something,

that dragon
will get across, too.

- We've got a bridge
with the rope at one end.

[gasps]
That's it!

Quick, Sally, pull!

[both straining]

- H-h-hi!

[laughs]
W-whoa.

Whoa.

- Ah!
How exciting.

Not only did you build
a great bridge,

but it's a drawbridge, too.

- You showed
that mean old dragon.

- [crying]

- Huh?

- I only wanted
to say hello.

I don't get
many visitors here.

- [gasps]
He's not mean at all.

[upbeat music]

- [laughs]

Oh, welcome
to Span-sylvania.

Did you see all our bridges?

Pretty cool, huh?

Oh, do you know what makes them
all the same?

They're all long enough
and strong enough.

Well, except
for that rope bridge,

but we're gonna fix that.

I-I can show you around,
if you like.

Oh, did I mention we don't get
many visitors here?

[laughter]

- Wow, Nick.

You really are
a master builder.

This works great.

- Thanks.
It's just like the canoe,

except smaller
and made of sticks.

- Sure, but why don't we leave
this drawbridge down,

to welcome friends in
instead of keeping them out?

- I can't wait
to show the king.

- Hey, where is the king?

- You called?
[laughs]

- You're the king?

- [laughs]
Aren't you the jester?

- Why can't I be both?

Now who's ready to play?

- Yay!

- Yeah!

- [laughs]
