- ♪ Hey
- What?

- ♪ Come over here

♪ The Cat in the Hat
is about to appear ♪

♪ He's whizzing over
to whisk you away ♪

♪ On a fabulous journey
today ♪

- He's coming!
- ♪ Now he's arrived

♪ In the Thinga-ma-jigger,
the thing that he drives ♪

♪ He's a cat
and he's oodles of fun ♪

♪ With his hairy helpers,
Thing Two and Thing One ♪

- Whoo-hoo!



- Whoa!



[laughter]



- Whoa!
- Wahoo!

- ♪ It's the Cat in the Hat

♪ All of our adventures
start like that ♪

♪ Wherever you're going,
wherever you're at ♪

♪ The Cat in the Hat
knows a lot about... ♪

- ♪ He knows a lot about,
he knows a lot about ♪

all: ♪ He knows a lot
about that ♪

[laughter]

[gentle music]

- So you're sure you've got

everything you need
for the night?

- Yeah, Dad, everything
but Sally.

- Here I am.
Are you ready?

- Sure am, and I've got
the perfect thing for us.

A book called
"The Creeping Shadow."

Because you can't
have a sleepover

without a spoo-oooky book.

- Ooh, I hope it's not
too spooky,

or I'll never sleep!

- It's okay, Fish.

There's nothing
to be afraid of.

- Yeah, I haven't even
opened the book yet.

- Ah, whew.

[gasps]
What's that?

- [gasps]

- A creeping shadow.

- What kind of thing
makes a shadow like that?

- I don't know, but
I don't want to find out!

- Whatever it was,
it's gone now.

Everything's okay.

- Um...maybe you should
cancel the sleepover

just in case.

- Cancel?

But I wore
my best bedtime bowtie.

both: Cat!

- You're here!

- Did you happen to see
a creepy shadow out there?

- A creepy shadow?

Is that why you're thinking
of cancelling the sleepover?

both: Uh-huh.

- Well, then I got here
just in time.

Once you find out
how shadows are made,

then you'll know there's
no reason for feeling afraid.

- But where do we find out
how shadows are made?

- In Silhouette Valley.

It's full of surprises.

And shadows there come in all
shapes, sorts and sizes.

- Then what are we waiting for?

We don't want to cancel
our sleepover!

- Then we're off
to Silhouette Valley.

Your father won't mind
at all if you do.

- Nick to Dad.
Come in, Dad.

- Dad here.
Go ahead, Nick.

- Can we fly in
the Thinga-ma-jigger

with the Cat in the Hat
to Silhouette Valley?

We need to find out
how shadows are made.

- Silhouette Valley?
Sure.

- [gasps]
- Beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Have fun!

- We can go!
We can go!

- I know, I know!
To the Thinga-ma-jigger!

- Yeah! Whoo!
- Whoo-hoo! Yeah!

- Buckle up!

[horn honks]

[playful music]

[whirs, clicks]

Flip the Jigger-ma-whizzer!

[boing]

[exciting music]



Isn't this fun?

both: Whoo-hoo!

- ♪ Here we go, go, go,
go on an adventure ♪

♪ The Thinga-ma-jigger
is up and away ♪

both: ♪ Go, go, go,
go on an adventure ♪

♪ We're flying
with the Cat in the Hat today ♪



- With its canyons
and mountains

and shadows and light,
this is Silhouette Valley,

a beautiful sight.

- Whoa.

It really is beautiful.

- Wow, this place is amazing.

- You should see it
when it's all lit up,

and you will!

Once all the light-bellied
brights arrive.

- Light-bellied brights?

What could they be?

[soft buzzing]

- Wait, I think
I hear something.

- And I think I see something.
Look!

[whooshing]

- [laughing]
What is that?

- That's a light-bellied
bright.

With its bright belly light,
it can light up the night.

[both laughing]

But I wonder where
the rest of them are.

- [chittering]

- What's it saying?

- Well, I haven't spoken
in the Brightenese language

in a while, but...

[clears throat, buzzing]

- [buzzes sadly]

- Ah-ha.
It can't find its friends.

They always travel together,

so the bright is really
lost without them.

- Oh, no!

- Finding out about shadows
will just have to wait!

We have to help this little
bright find its friends.

- [happy chittering]

- But how?
Hmm.

Cat, ask him where they were
the last time he saw them.

- [buzzing]

- [buzzing]

[chittering]

- Okay, everyone.

Follow that bright!

Keep your eyes peeled
for light-bellied brights.

- Hmm, I don't see

any light-bellied brights
around here.

- Me neither.

[gasps]
How did that shadow get here?

- [chuckles]
That shadow looks familiar.

- Sally's right!

- Huh?

Now that you mention it,

that shadow looks
a whole lot like me.

- Look, I have one too.

But where are
the shadows coming from?

- Hmm, now that's
an interesting question.

- Look, the shadows are gone.

- You're right!

And look, now they're back.
But why?

- [gasps]
It's the bright.

When his light shines on us,
the shadows appear.

- Yeah!

The bright's light shines
everywhere on the wall

except for where
the shadows are.

Let me try something.

- Now shadow!

- Shadow!
[gasps]

That's how they're made.

They happen when someone
blocks light.

- And that's why our shadows
are shaped like us

and move like us.

We're the things
the blocking the light.

- So even if we're alone,
we've got company.

Our shadows!

- [buzzes]

- But it's not the same
as being with your friends.

- [buzzes sadly]

- We've got to find them.

But where do we look?

- We don't have any clues.

- When you're searching for
answers and need a new clue,

you can always rely
on Thing One and Thing Two.

[whistles]

both: Whoo-hoo!

Hello.

- Hello, Things.

We're looking for
light-bellied bright.

We'll go this way,
and you need to climb up high

and see if there's
a swarm of them in sight.

[both cheering]

[both chittering]

[laughter]

[both laughing, chittering]

- Whoa!

- Is that a monster?

- If it is, then it's
the shadow of a monster.

- Ah, monster!

Oh, God!
- Yikes!

- [whimpering]

- [chuckles]
It's okay.

That was just the shadows
of the Things

on top of the rocks.

- [whimpering]

- [laughs]

- Did you see any
light-bellied brights

from up there?

- Uh-uh.
- Uh-uh.

- Then we've got
to keep going this way.

We know they're not back
where we came from.

- And now that we know
how shadows are made,

they're not scary anymore.

- Are you sure about that?

Those shadows are gigantic!

[all scream]

- Don't worry, those are
still our shadows.

- How could they be?

We're definitely not giants.

- Hmm, now this is
a giant mystery.

A definite head-scratcher.

- Look, the giant shadow
is moving like you, Cat.

Just like regular shadows.

- Oh!

- But they're not regular.
They're huge!

- But how?

Hmm.

Think, Nick.
Think.

- Ah, would you look at that.

- [gasps] Nick's shadow is
getting bigger and smaller.

- But why is it growing when
he walks away from the wall

and getting smaller
when he walks towards it?

- Can you shed some light
on that, Nick.

- I don't know.

The only thing
that changed is...

how close we are
to the bright.

Watch this.

- The closer you are
to the bright,

the bigger your shadow gets.

Maybe because you're
blocking more light.

- That explains everything!

But what about those shadows?

both: Huh?

- Those are the shadows
of the Things.

both: Hello!

- But if the bright
is right beside us,

what's causing those shadows?

- That must mean...[gasps]

There's another light!
Look!

[buzzing]

- Ah, it's the brights!



Yay! Yeah!
- Ya-hoo!

[both chuckle]

- [chittering]

- We didn't find
your friends.

Your friends found us.

- Well, that's a good reason
to make a big buzz.

[laughter]

- Yay!
- Yeah!

- Looks like our work here
is done.

- [chittering]

- You're welcome.

Ah, and thanks for the light.

- [buzzing]

- Bye, brights.

- And bye-bye, shadows.

Thanks for all the fun.

- Bye-bye.
- Bye.

- Bye. See you later.
- Bye.

- All right, now we can
finally start our sleepover.

Yeah!

- I'll be there in two blinks
of a bright's belly.

I just need to get
my sleepover supplies.

- Okay.
Finally.

The only shadow we need
to worry about now is...

- Ahhh!
The creeping shadow is back!

[eerie music]

- What could be making it?

- How 'bout we all just
close our eyes

until it goes away again?

- It's okay, Fish.

- We just have to look
for the light,

and the thing that's
blocking it.

- If the shadow's
on the wall,

the light must be
coming from...

[gasps] the moonlight
shining through the window.

I think we've found what was
making the creeping shadow.

- ♪ I'm gonna have, have,
have, have a sleepover ♪

- It was the cat's tail
in the moonlight.

[chuckles]
Mystery solved!

[yawns]
- See?

[both yawn]
Shadows aren't...

scary at all.

- I got everything we need,

pillowy pillows,
a snuggly sleeping bag,

and a whole heap
of yummy snacks.

Let the sleepover begin!

[both snoring]

Nick? Sally?

Oh, Fish?

[snoring]

Oh, well.

What's a sleepover
without sleep?

Come join in a game
that we call shadow play.

It begins when the
light-bellied bright

comes our way.

When he flies up behind us
and shines his bright light,

the shadows he makes
are a magical sight.

- [chuckles]
Look, that's me.

- Hey, but where'd
that bird come from?

- [gasps]
You made that bird?

Let me try.

Hmm.

Look, a rabbit.
[laughs]

- Chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp.

- Ahh! Alligator!

- Look, Sally's shadow
came back when she did.

- Well, that's one thing
we can always count on.

who follows me ♪

♪ My shadow goes
where I go ♪

♪ I move the same
as you can see ♪

♪ Need a partner
for a dance ♪

[upbeat music]



- Hey, Nick.
Want to come play?

- I would, but I'm
really busy, Sally.

- Doing what?

- Sorting my rubber band
collection with Fish.

- And what
a collection it is.

- It's the best rubber band
collection ever.

- Sure is.

But is it as cool as...this?



- Whoa, is that
a new basketball?

- Sure is.

- We're coming down.

Okay, Sally, show me.

- Bouncy balls are the best.

And this is the best
bouncy ball ever.

- Whoa, how high will it go?

- Try it and see.

- Okay, watch this.
[grunts]

Watch out, Fish!
- Wah!

- Ahh!

Oh, sorry, Sally.

I didn't mean for the ball
to get stuck in the tree.

- That's okay.
It was an accident.

That ball is pretty bouncy.

- Did someone say
"bouncy ball?"

Ahh!
- [chuckles] Hi, Cat.

- I love to bounce.

How bouncy is it?

- Uh, very.

- Oh, dear.

- Maybe we can find
another ball.

- Where are we going to find
a ball bouncier than that?

- I've heard of a place
known as Ballabaloo.

If you want a new ball,
that's the right place for you.

- Yes, please!

- Your father won't mind
at all if you do.

- Dad!

Can Sally and I go
to Ballabaloo

with the Cat in the Hat
to find a new bouncy ball?

- [laughs] Just so long
as you remember

to bounce back
before dinnertime.

- We can go, we can go!

- I know, I know!
To the Thinga-ma-jigger!

- Come on, Fish.

- You know what,
I think I'll stay here

and take care
of these rubber bands.

- Thanks, Fish.
- What a mess.

- Buckle up!

[horn honks]

[playful music]

[whirs, clicks]

- If you look down below,
you'll see Ballabaloo,

where I'm sure you'll find
bouncers galore just for you.

[gentle music]



both: Whoa.

- This is amazing.

- Awesome.

- If we're ever gonna
find you a new ball,

this is the place.

[gasps] How about this one?

- Same size, same shape.

Give it a bounce.

- [straining]

Oops.

- That is not a bouncy noise.

- That ball
didn't bounce at all,

and it's full of holes.

- Those holes
are for fingers.

My mom has a ball
just like this.

It's a bowling ball.

Bowling balls are definitely
not bouncy.

- I wonder why some balls
are bouncy and others aren't.

- What an excellent question.

Perhaps we can watch it up
close with micromaboodle.

Now look closely
as I give it a bounce.

- That didn't bounce at all.

- With a micromaboodle,

you can rewind
and take another look.

[whirring]

- I still
don't see it bouncing.

- Why don't you turn
the other knob?

Slow it down and take
an even closer look.

[whirring]

- Now that we see it up close
and slowed down,

it looks like it did bounce
a teeny, tiny bit.

- [sighs]
A teeny, tiny bit

isn't good enough to replace
a bouncy basketball.

- It might not bounce,
but it's really roll-y.

[chuckles]

- Heavy balls like
this bowler...[grunts]

are really great rollers.

[upbeat music]

Ah!



- Yahoo!
- Strike!

- Yes!
- Oh!

I want to try bowling too.

But you knocked down
all the pins, Cat.

- When you knock
something down,

do not cry or boo-hoo.

Simply call for some help
from Thing One and Thing Two.

[whistles]

both: Hello.

[grunting, chattering]



- Ah-ha!

- Thanks, Thing Two.

[straining]



Yeah!
This is the best ball ever

for rolling and
knocking things down.

- It's a whole new ball game.



- Ta-da!

- Try to knock down
the rest, Nick.

- [straining]

Watch this!

[straining]
Whoa!

- Yikes!

- Look at that roller
go, go, go.

- Wait! Ball!

Wait!

I'm sorry I lost
your ball again.

- That's okay, Nick.

Bowling balls are fun,
but not as fun as bouncers.

- Hey, that one looks perfect.

It's the right size and shape.

Whoa, it's really light
and squishy.

Not like the bowling ball.

- But how does it bounce?

- Kinda weird.Watch.

- It's not bouncy
like my basketball,

but it does bounce,

and it's great for
keeping up in the air.

- Like to take a closer look?

- That ball
squashes and squishes

and snaps back into shape.

- Hmm, the bowling ball
didn't change shape

like the beach ball does.

Maybe squishing
and snapping back

is what makes a ball bouncy.

- You can't bounce a thing
that doesn't have spring.

- It's the best ball ever.

[both laugh]
Yay.

Yeah!

- It's a whole new,
new ball game.

- [grunts]

- My ball!

- Oh, no.
I did it again.

- It's okay, Nick.

A ball that can blow away
won't ever be a great bouncer.

- I'm sure you'll find
a bouncy ball to b*at them all.

And here's the very room
to find it.

- [gasps] A giant ball room!

Come on, Sally.

[all laughing]

- Yeah!
- Whoo-hoo!

- Yippee!

These balls are too hard.

They barely bounce at all.

- This one's fun,
but it's better for throwing.

- Throw it to me, Cat.
Over here!

- [groans]

[laughter]

- Balls, ball, everywhere!

But I don't see anything
like my bouncy basketball.

- You mean the best
bouncy ball ever?

- Oh, Cat.
It's perfect.

It's just like
my ball at home.

Right, Nick?

- It sure is.
Whoa!

- Ball overboard!
- Find that ball!

- It's lost in all these
other balls.

- Keep looking.

- It's gotta be here
somewhere.

- [sighs] It's gone.

- I'm so sorry you lost
your bouncy ball, Sally.

But how about playing
with this?

[laughs]

- Thanks, Cat,
but it's not the same.

- Hmm, maybe.

You know, that snapping
rubber band gives me an idea.

Back to the tree house.

- But what about
finding a bouncy ball?

- Cat, when Nick gets an idea,
it's time to go, go, go.

- One band, two band,
red band, blue band.

- [panting] Fish,
I need my rubber bands.

- They're right here,
and they're all sorted.

- That's great!

- Well, they were all sorted.

- Sorry, Fish,
but we've got work to do.

- Can I look now?
- Sure.

- You made a ball
out of rubber bands?

What about your collection?

- What's a collection for if
you can't do anything with it?

- I bet it's super bouncy.

- Super duper bouncy.

After all, rubber bands
are very snappy.

Ah!
[chuckles]

- Let's try it!

You try it.

- Really?

But what if I lose
this one too?

- Go ahead.



My bouncy basketball!

[all cheering]

- I'm glad you got
your ball back, Sally.

- Me too.

Now we have
two bouncy balls,

and we can see which one
bounces higher

if we drop them both
from the tree house.

- Awesome.
Ha ha!

- It's a whole new,
new, new...

new, new, new, new,
new ball game.

[laughs]

[upbeat music]
