Woo! Glad I'm not stuck
in a tree.

- OK, so I'm Peg,

and today,
I'm all by my lonesome,

twiddling my thumbs.

Ugh! Trying to twiddle
my thumbs.

I'm NOT on an amazing adventure
with my pal, Cat.

No! Because today, I'm stuck,

way up high in a tree
with no way to get down!

And in case you haven't noticed,

this is a big problem.
(dramatic musical cue)

- Ah? What? Ah! Ah! Wahoo!
Problem where?

Uh... I better go check it out.

(grunting with effort)

(both screaming)

Sorry!

(Cat clears his throat)
- Ah!

- Need help, uh, sorting?
- Uh-uh!

- Ah, no problem here.

Ah, must have been
a false alarm!

(big yawn)

(snoring)

(humming)

- ♪♪ Ho, hum, ho, hum,
fiddley dey, fiddley dum ♪

♪ Being stuck in a tree
is so not the life for me ♪

♪ Two and a four, wishing
my feet were on the floor ♪

aren't so great ♪

♪ I'm stuck in a tree ♪
(Cat humming the melody)

dance and jive ♪

me and Cat have so much fun ♪

♪ He's squishy and round ♪

♪ And makes the trombone sound ♪

Well, if I gotta be stuck,

guess I'll make the best of it
and perfect my yoyo moves.

Way up high, touch the sky!

Down real low, nice and slow.

- Ow!
(Peg gasps.)

- Cat!
- Hey, what gives?

Peg? You're stuck
in the tree?!

- Yeah.
- This is so weird!

- I know, right?
- I'm always the one

stuck up there, and
you're the one who's down here!

But now you're up,
and I'm down!

It's crazy town!

- Cat, you got to help me
get down from here.

- Don't worry, Peg,
you can count on me!

- Thanks, Cat.

- Peg's always helping me;
now, it's my chance to help her!

How did Peg get me down
from that tree before?

I can't remember.

But so what? I'm my own cat!

I march to a different b*at!

There's got to be a different
way to solve this problem.

The Cat way!

Hmm... Now, what would Peg do?

Yes! Peg's always writing stuff
down with that twiggy thing!

But I don't have a twiggy thing!

Close enough!
Ah-ah-ah-ah...

(sneeze)

That's it, you genius bug!

- Uh?
- We can build a ladder

for Peg to climb down!

- Hey, what's going on
down there?

- Start singing, Peg!
And you too, bug, because...

- The problem is solved?

- ♪ We solved the problem,

- What's the plan, Cat?

- Just you wait and see!

- OK, but hurry.

I can't sit up in a tree
and yoyo forever.

- ♪♪ To find the perfect pieces,
I'll search all over town ♪

♪ So I can build a ladder
and get my friend down ♪

♪ First, I need two pieces
of just the right height ♪

♪ Too long, too short ♪

♪ Aha, just right ♪

♪ Now I need another
that's just the same size ♪

- ♪ Put these two together ♪

- ♪ Yes, I can't believe
my eyes ♪

♪ You genius, genius bug
Amazing, awesome bug ♪

♪ Come on, give me a hug ♪

♪ Now, I need short pieces
that I can step onto ♪

- One, two, three, four, five.
- ♪ Five pieces oughta do ♪

♪ But however will I find,
find pieces all the same ♪

Hey, this is not a game! Ah!

♪ I'm finally all done ♪

Now, I need to attach

all this stuff somehow...

- How's it going
down there, Cat?

- That's it, you genius Peg!
- Huh?

- If I can tie
the pieces together...

- What?
- No time for chitchat, Peg.

Yes! Jump rope!

Hello, small child
dressed like a bear,

can I borrow that jump rope
you got there?

- No.
- Please?

- Pretty please?

with a cherry on top,
gooey frosting,

and rainbow sprinkles?
- No!

(Cat crying like a baby)

- I still got it.

Voilà! Huh? Close enough.

Peg, you are saved!

- Oh, thanks, Cat, but how?

- With this ladder, silly!

Great for climbing down trees!

- Oh, right, of course,
a ladder.

- Let me show you
how it's done.

Whoa-oh-oh-oh! Whoops!

- Oh no! Now,
we're both stuck in the tree!

- Or is everyone else
stuck down there?

- No, we've got...
- A REALLY BIG PROBLEM!

- Hey, Peg.
- Oh! Hey, Ramone.

What are you doing down there?

- I'm serving as
a horticulture designer today,

giving the Neighbor Ladies'
front yards a manicure.

- (Peg and Cat): Huh!?
- You know, mowing their lawns.

- Fancy!
- Ramone is so helpful!

- I do what I can.
What are you two doing up there?

- Uh, you know, just, uh...

taking in the sights.
Things sure do look beautiful

from up above, right Cat?

- Beautiful!
- What's this?

- A ladder! I made it myself.
Pretty nice, am I right?

- Well, one problem
is the steps aren't horizontal.

- "Horowaddle"?

- Horizontal means going
straight across,

like these bars
on the back of my lawnmower.

- They don't tilt up or down
at all.

- My ladder steps
have much more variety!

- But since the steps
don't go straight across,

someone who stepped on them
would slip.

- Ho! Ho! Ho!
He'd slip all right!

- And for the ladder
to be sturdy,

these boards on the side
need to be vertical.

- Verti-who?
- Vertical means

straight up and down,
like these bars.

- (Peg): They go straight up!
- (Cat): And straight down!

- Since the boards
aren't vertical,

if someone climbed the ladder,
it would wobble.

- Would and did!

- Uh, Ramone,
any chance you can make

those pieces horizontal
and vertical for us?

- Let's see. Steps horizontal.

- (Cat): Whoa!
- (Peg): Nice!

- And sides vertical!

- Hello!
- The ladder is totally perfect!

- It should be just right
for climbing.

- We're saved!
- NOOO!

- Oops!

- First, I got stuck
in the tree.

- Then, I got stuck
in the tree!

- And now I'm stuck.
That makes three.

- If everyone who tries to help
gets stuck,

we'll never, ever, ever
be free!

- WE ARE TOTALLY FREAKING OUT!

- I'm even freaking out
a little.

- Cat's right,
I should count backwards

from five to calm down.

- And I'll go back
to being me.

- Five, four,

three, two,

one!

Yes, you did it again,
you amazing tail-curling cat!

- Moi?
- That's right,

I can use my yoyo
to pull the ladder up,

so we can all climb down!

Double boingy-boing!

- (Cat): One, two!

- Triple zoop-de-zoing!

- (Cat): One, two, three.

- Yes!
- Whoa-oh!

She's good!

- By knowing about up and down,
and horizontal and vertical,

we're getting everybody
down from the tree!

- Math really saved us all.

- So...

- ♪ The problem is solved
We solved the problem ♪

- Well, I better get back
to the Neighbor Ladies' lawns.

Cat, thanks for helping me

- It was nice not being the one
stuck up there for a change.

- The light is soaring overhead

like a joyous acrobat,

because I'm being visited

by my great friends,
Peg and Cat.

- Oh, Romeo, Romeo,

we think you're
awesome too, you know?

I'm Peg and this is Cat,

and we're visiting our pal Romeo

who totally loves poetry.

His floor is covered
with poems!

He even speaks in rhyme.

- A lot of the time.
(Peg laughs.)

- We try to keep up with Romeo,

but it can be hard
speaking in poetry.

- I know... a tree.
Ha! Ha! Ha!

- Alas!
- You OK, Romeo?

That's the third time today
I've heard you sigh.

- Yeah, why?

(Romeo sighs.)
- I'll tell you both,

you need not beg.
I've got a big problem,

Cat and Peg.
- (girl): Alas!

- See Juliet in her balcony.

Ah! I long to dance with her
and she with me,

but her father and mine
don't get along.

They built that wall
so tall and strong.

It pains my soul
and breaks my heart,

and keeps Juliet and me
forever apart.

- Bummer!
- It's like if you and I

could never dance together.

- We couldn't march around?
Or skip? Or frolic rhythmically?

- Ah, alas!

- Romeo, I know
how you can reach Juliet.

- Oh, Peg, I leap
for joy and strut.

- You just need
a horizontal line.
- A what?

- Horizontal means
going straight across.

- Like, you know,
a dental floss.

- So if I go from my window
to her window,

I'd get to dance
with my friend Juliet.

- But what shall we use
to make this line for them?

- You can't climb
on a flower stem.

- (all): We've got
a big problem!

(dramatic musical cue)

- There's nothing but poems!
- We haven't a hope.

- Poems and rubber bands.
- Flowers and rope.

- (both): Rope!

- (Cat): Toss it!
- I'll toss it!

- (Cat): Whoa-oh-oh!

- And I'll go across it.
Ah, precious horizontal line,

lead me to that friend of mine.

You filled my life
with joy and beauty.

- Have fun with Juliet.
- Shaking your tooty!

- ♪ Problem solved
- The problem is solved ♪

♪ We solved the problem,
problem-- ♪

- Help!
- Romeo?

- What happened?
- Your horizontal line

became a vertical line.
- One again, Peg, please define!

- Vertical means
straight up and down.

- Something, something,
something brown?

- Clown? Frown?
- Oh! Funky town?

- (Romeo): HEEELP!
- Let's forget about rhyming

and help Romeo!

It's OK, Romeo,
we can catch you now!

- Then down,
I shall be coming.

- Ow!
- Hurry back inside, Romeo,

before Juliet's dad
sees you.

- I've come too far, Peg.
Can't go home yet,

not till I've reached Juliet.

- So, you've got to get over
that enormous wall,

and up
to that third-floor balcony

before her father finds you
and gets in a really bad mood?

- Ah! You got
a really big problem, dude.

(dramatic musical cue)

- I must solve this problem;
there must be a way.

- Three vertical lines
should do it.

- Yeah!
- Three simple vertical lines,

you say?
- One up this wall,

one down, you see?

- (Romeo): And one up
to Juliet's balcony.

- ♪♪ Climbing a vertical line ♪

- ♪ Feeling just fine ♪

with a rope tied to a spike.

different ways.

- Will we be apart

- Not necessarily.

If Juliet climbs back across...

and Romeo climbs up...

- Sweet!

I shall bury.

- (Peg): Your rope is breaking.
- I would hurry.

- I'm ready to hurry.

and start climbing.

- I'm starting up.
- I'm starting now.

- Alas! I feel I'm FALLING!

- Ow!
- Oh, the rope is broke!

- Romeo, get off of the grass.

We'll form a vertical line,
we three,

to lift you up like this...
- (Peg and Cat): You see?

- You friends are the best.

- I'm getting compressed.

(all screaming)

- I've got to find Cat,
don't go away!

- I cannot move
and so I'll stay.

- Cat, I found you!

How did you get up there?

- Bounced around.
- I'll get you down

if you just let go!

- Sticking. Sorry.

- Why "oh" you so?

- This pole will be perfect
for Romeo.
- Yo!

- On this vertical line,
you can climb without falling.

- I'm climbing and clinging.
- Clinging and crawling.

- My line is wilting.
- It really is tilting.

- I wish I were stronger.
- Can't hold on much longer.

- Oh, friend of mine.
- My line!

- Vertical!

- (Cat): Horizontal!
- (Peg): Vertical!

- It's horizontal now, Juliet,

look below.
- Can you reach me

from down there, Romeo?

- Not from here.

- You won't reach him
if you reach all year.

Your lines are parallel;

they go the same direction,

but they'll never ever cross

or touch or meet.
- (Cat): Huh!

- They'll never meet?

- Then jump my feet!

- (both): NOOO!

- I'm here.

through the air ♪

- ♪ I trip
- I flip ♪

- ♪ I'm thrown
- I'm smacked ♪

- Those two are like
a circus act.

- My line is
as high as yours

and yet
I still can't reach you, Juliet.

- From here?

- Your lines are parallel.
- (Romeo and Juliet): Again?!

- Our lines will never meet.
- Oh, woe is me!

- Can't you two shout
more quietly?
- Hello!

(Peg gasps.)
- Hide! On the double!

- Juliet?
- Romeo?

- (Romeo and Juliet): Dad?!
(Cat gasps.)

- They're in trouble!

- What are you doing
up in the air?

- Romeo, get down from there!

- You and he can't be together.

- Or I'm giving you a timeout.
- To your room!

- (dads): Forever!

- Alas!
- Alas!

- Romeo and Juliet
will never ever get together.

- All those wasted
horizontal lines.

- All those wasted
vertical lines!

- All those wasted rhymes.

- I strut and fret.
- I huff and pout.

- I wave my arms, and jump,
and shout that...

- (all): I am totally
freaking out!

- Cat's right,
I should take a deep breath

and count backwards from three.
- (Romeo and Juliet):
So should we!

- (fathers): So should we.
- Three...

- (both): Two...
- (fathers): One.

- (Peg): Huh?

- Ah! There's
a platform between us!

- That's it,
you rubber band-flicking genius!

(lute music)
- Our stage is complete.

- Then dance my feet.

- Ramone rocking the lute!

You the man!
- I do what I can.

- (dads): Awww!
- Their friendship is good.

- Their friendship is true.

- Maybe we should be
the best of friends too.

I reach out horizontally

to say, neighbor,
please be friend with me.

- Check it out, you two.
- Huzzah!

- Woohoo!

we brought Romeo
and Juliet together.
