- I'm Ramone.
- She's Peg.

- When I was your age, if I
couldn't explain what I wanted
in words, I'd try drawing.

- Great idea.
- I don't have
a crayon and paper,

but you can draw in the dirt
with this twig. Remember, Peg.

When you can't solve a problem,
there's always somebody
somewhere who can help.

- Thanks, Ramone.
- I do what I can.

Hey, that's got
a nice ring to it.

Our friends Romeo and Juliet

are having a big Valentine's Day
party in Verona.

So we're making them
a special box

of solid-shaped chocolates!
- What's a solid shape?

- Well, flat shapes are things
like squares, triangles
and circles.

They only have two dimensions.
Length... and width.

- Check.
- But solid shapes
have three dimensions.

Length, width and--
- Nougat?
- Height.

- Oof!
- Hmm... the lid won't close.

Mac, our chef, has
a special arrangement

to make the chocolates
fit in the box.
- Yeah, but where is Mac?

(cell phone ringing)
- Hiya, Peg.
- Mac! Where are you?

- I'm at the -hour drugstore.
All the Valentine's candy
goes on sale at midnight,

and I buy it up cheap.
It's a tradition.

- So you spend every
Valentine's Day alone?

- But then the next day
I'm not alone. I got candy!

- Can you tell us your special
chocolate arrangement, Mac?

- Oh, yeah, no problem!
I put them in pairs.
- A pair means of something.

- ♪♪ First, a pair o' pyramids
White chocolate from Giza! ♪

♪ Next, a pair o' cylinders!
- I think he means-a these-a! ♪

cordial cubes ♪

- Okay. Now we've got everything

Valentine's Day ever.

Cat, why are you
under the table?
- Under this table?

I just realized I don't have
a Valentine for Peg!

- Oh no! I don't have
a Valentine for Cat!

- (both): This is a BIG PROBLEM!

Did you say something? What? No.

- Okay... I just need
some red paper...

Hey, Cat, do you, um,

happen to have the red paper,
for no reason at all?

- I just happen to... have... it
here. I don't know how
to make a heart!

- A heart has symmetry: two
sides that are exactly the same.

So if I fold the paper in half
and cut one side of the heart
like so...

the edges line up.
When I open the paper...

voilà! One heart with two
matching sides. Symmetry.

- Um, Peg?
- Uh, Cat?

- (both): HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

- For you. This heart that
I totally didn't just make

a second ago.
- Me either.
- (both): Thanks!

♪ Problem solved
The problem is... ♪
(cell phone ringing)

- Hello?
- 'Tis I, romantic Romeo.

In Verona, draped with snow.
The outdoor party space we love

has too much snow
to even shove...l

- Do you think you have the
space to have the party
at your place?

- Uh...of course!
Yeah, sure we do!

- We'll tell the ten couples
to go to you!

- And guess what else!
We have commissioned R and R!

Cat! Juliet said there are
couples coming,

and we need boxes of chocolate
and hearts for everyone!

How many people is that?

- A couple means two of
something. Same as a pair!

So if there are couples,
each with two people,

we can count by twos
to figure out how many!

so now we can cut

Now to fill the boxes
of chocolates.

- Peg! The chocolates don't fit!

- We can use our first box
as a guide to show us where
to put the chocolates.

- Uh...this box?
- Oh no!

I don't remember
the special arrangement.

- Hiya, Peg. Speak up! I can't
hear you over that R and R song.

Excuse me, lady. If you wait
an hour, all these flowers
will go on sale!

The candy, too! I'm tellin' ya,
you're wastin' your money!

I'm in the middle of a very
important conversation here,
Peg... Gotta go.

- He said something
about R and R.

Who could they be?

That's it, Cat! Look.

Each solid shaped chocolate has
a flat shape in the box
for its bottom.

That's because the solid shapes
have flat shapes on
their bottom.

The shapes in the box
can be our guide!

So, there are two triangles
for two triangular pyramids.

Two circles for two cylinders,
since cylinders have circles
on their ends.

And two squares for two cubes.

Then two rectangles
for two rectangular prisms.

And these shapes are...
One two three four five...

- Five-side-agons!
- Pentagons! Two pentagons,

for pentagonal prisms! Now
we can do all the boxes.
- And so...

- ♪ Problem solved
