03x08 - The Princess Ballet

Post by bunniefuu »

I was a girl in the village doing all right Then I became a princess overnight Now I gotta figure out how to do it right So much to learn and see Up in the castle with my new family In a school that's just for royalty A whole enchanted world is waiting for me - I'm so excited to be - Sofia the first I'm finding out what being royal's all about Sofia the first Making my way, it's an adventure every day Sofia - It's gonna be my time - Sofia To show them all that I'm Sofia the first Oh, that's a fantastic dancing daisy, Vivian.

Oh, lovely rising rose stalk, Sofia.

Thank you, Miss Flora.

Everyone's enchanted plants look wonderful.

Some seeds here, a little more there.

That's it.

Princess Kari, your singing sunflowers are extraordinarily enchanting.

Thank you, Miss Flora.

How do you get them to do that? I figured out that they sing higher or lower depending on how much plant food you give them.

( flowers singing ) - See? - Wow! - Excellent work, Kari.

- You guys wanna try it? I'll show you how.

Oh, no! My bouncing bluebells! They're bouncing everywhere! Hang on.

I'll get 'em.

Got it.

Excuse me.

Gotcha.

Wow! Kari can really catch.

I guess that's why she was the most valuable player in the dazzleball tournament.

Is there anything she can't do? Probably not.

She's also captain of the gymnastics team.

And last week, in alchemy class, she was the only student to change chocolate into gold.

Oh, children, we only have a few minutes left of class, so I want to share some exciting news with you.

The day after tomorrow, Royal Prep will be hosting its very first Arts Night.

- What's an Arts Night? - It's when your parents come to school to see presentations of all the artistic things we do here at Royal Prep.

Singing, dancing, painting.

There are many presentations to prepare, so I'll need all of your help.

Now, who would like to put on an enchanted orchestra performance? Oh, I would.

Zoe, Cleo, Derek, thank you.

And would anyone like to decorate the main hall with student art work? James, Khalid.

Sounds fun, Miss Flora.

Vivian.

Marvelous.

The next item on my list Will be presented by yours truly, Miss Elodie.

I need some nimble dancers to perform a simple but stunning ballet.

Any takers? - Me! - I'll do it.

Brava, ladies.

But this dance requires three performers.

Are there any other volunteers? You should dance with us, Kari.

I've never done ballet before.

I'm surprised to hear that, Kari.

Your mother was the star ballerina when she was a student at Royal Prep.

She was remarkable.

Yeah, I know.

Guess I just never had the time to try it.

Now's your chance.

We can help you learn the steps.

Amber and I have taken a few classes.

And knowing you, you'll probably be a prima ballerina by the end of our first rehearsal.

Just like your mother.

All right.

I'll do it.

Perfect.

I have my three ballerinas.

Meet me in the dance studio for practice after lunch.

Be sure to give your parents these invitations to Arts Night.

It's an event they won't want to miss.

Gather around, budding ballerinas.

Before we begin rehearsal, let me offer you some words of advice from my very favorite ballet teacher, the world famous Sergio Adagio.

He said, "In ballet, you dance not just with arms and legs, but with a joyful heart.

" Now, let me show you the routine I've choreographed for Arts Night.

We will start with a pirouette.

Then an arabesque.

Into a glissade.

That looks tricky.

And we'll end with a grande jeté! Uh, Miss Elodie, we're supposed to learn all those moves in two days? ( laughs ) Don't worry.

We'll learn it bit by bit.

Let's begin with the first move in our routine.

The pirouette.

This move is pretty easy, Kari.

You put your feet like this, and just lift up your leg and spin whoa! Like that.

- Only better.

- Got it.

Here goes.

( giggling ) It's okay, Kari.

It won't be long before you're just as good as your mom.

Look at her, Amber.

Her form is perfect.

Okay, let me try that again.

Sorry.

That wasn't good at all.

No need to apologize, Kari.

How do you do this without getting dizzy? Kari, are you all right? I'm okay, I'm okay.

Let me just try it again.

( bell tolling ) Ooh, recess.

Oh, my favorite part of the day.

Go on without me.

I'm gonna stay and work on this move.

All right, Kari.

But you should know, you're doing wonderfully for your first ballet lesson.

Come on, Kari.

You can take a little break.

No, not just yet.

I really wanna do a perfect pirouette.

But it doesn't have to be perfect.

Yes, it does.

I've gotta keep practicing.

Okay.

My, Zoe, what a lovely sculpture.

Do you really like it? I made it out of all these cool old things I found at home.

It's an elephant.

So it is.

Very creative.

Wait.

Hold on.

I have to add the final touch.

There.

Excellent.

And here are my hall decorators.

I leave it to you to turn this hall into an enchanting gallery of student art.

Don't forget to find a good spot for my sculpture.

You got it.

Okay, guys, let's get to work.

Um, any brilliant ideas on where Zoe's lion sculpture should go? That's not a lion.

It's a castle.

You mean a dragon.

See all the scales? Whatever it is, let's move it over there by the bench.

( all groaning ) It's so heavy.

VIVIAN: Oh, no! We broke the lion.

- You mean castle.

- You mean dragon.

Come on, we've gotta put it back together before Zoe sees it.

Students, remember to give your parents their invitations to Arts Night.

Don't look so worried, Kari.

We still have tomorrow and the next day to learn the routine.

I know.

I just hope it's enough time.

See ya, Sofia.

Kari, my little superstar.

- How was your day? - Hi, Mom.

What's that? It's nothing.

Nothing at all.

But I think it has my name on it.

Let me have a look.

"You are cordially invited to Royal Prep's first annual Arts Night.

" Oh, how charming.

What will you be performing, Kari? A ballet.

That's wonderful! I can't wait to see you leap and spin just like I used to.

The thing is, I haven't really gotten the hang of leaping or spinning yet.

I'm sure you're going to make me so proud.

You always do.

( groans quietly ) Good morning, my prancing princesses.

Ready for rehearsal? Oh, I see rehearsal's already started.

I got here early to practice.

Sofia, she's really serious about this.

Too serious.

Let's try to help her have some fun.

Whoa! Uh uh That was great.

What are you talking about, Sofia? I totally messed up that pirouette.

But you made up a really fun dance move instead.

Let's call it the Kari hop.

Ooh, look, I can do the Kari hop, too.

Watch me! ( Sofia giggling ) KARI: Okay, looks like fun.

( giggles ) This is a hoot.

Marvelous moves, dancers.

Very spirited.

Thank you, Miss Flora.

I need to speak with Miss Elodie for a moment, but do carry on.

Your parents are going to just adore this.

Okay, let's get back to practice.

My parents are coming to see me do ballet, not some silly hop.

Oh, I'll never get it in time.

It's okay, Kari.

It's not okay.

What is my mom gonna say If she sees my ballet And it's not what she thought it would be She'll be so disappointed in me When I was just a tyke And went on my first hike Climbed a mountain in seconds flat Mom and Dad were so proud of that From that to baking pies I always won first prize Now I have to keep up that pace There's no room for second place Oh! Gotta reach a higher height Shine brighter than starlight I've got no choice I've gotta get it right You don't need to be number one Long as you have lots of fun I've got no choice I've gotta get it right I can't have two left feet Or even miss a b*at I'm not used to falling down Gotta be perfect all around And so, I have to try And soon, I'll start to fly When I dance so beautifully Mom will say she's so proud of me Gotta reach a higher high Shine brighter than starlight I've got no choice I've gotta get it right As long as it makes you smile That's what makes it all worthwhile But I've got no choice I've gotta get it right Kari, you did it! I did.

Now I can rejoice I finally got it right I got it right I got it right! Yes! That was marvelous pirouetting.

Congratulations.

Finally.

I was starting to think I'd never get it.

Now we can start working on the other dance moves - in the routine.

- Other dance moves? Yes.

Remember? After the pirouette, you girls will arabesque, glissade, and then grande jeté.

But it took me so long to learn one move.

How will I ever learn all those others by tomorrow night? There's not enough time.

Sure there is.

We can do it.

Maybe you and Amber can.

You've taken ballet before.

But this is really hard for me.

I think you're gonna do fine, Kari.

But if you want some extra help, I can ask my old teacher, Sergio Adagio, to give you a special lesson.

He's the best there is.

Really? You could do that? We could invite him to our castle.

We have a big ballroom there.

Oh, Sergio will get you dancing in no time, Kari.

That's him! Sergio Adagio.

( sighs ) My warm-up is complete.

That was just a warm-up? We really want to thank you for making time to do this, Signore Adagio.

So we brought you these.

It is my pleasure.

When it comes to ballet, I bend over backwards to help a student in need.

Now, my darlings, what is this dancing emergency of yours? Our friend needs to learn to arabesque, glissade and grande jeté.

And she needs to learn them fast.

I don't know how to do any of those moves.

I am very glad to hear that.

- You are? - Absolutely.

It means you're like a shapeless lump of clay.

A shapeless lump of clay I can mold into a chiseled statue of greatness.

Let us begin with a grande jeté.

Like so.

Now you try.

Hm.

I see this will require some special training.

I shall need something challenging that Princess Kari can practice jumping over.

I've still got some enchanted plant food from class.

I can make these bluebells bounce.

Will that work? Perfectly.

Now jeté over the bluebells, Princess Kari.

Jeté like you have never jetéd before.

Oh! Stop.

Wait.

Hold everything.

What's wrong? That, my dear, was an absolutely wonderful grande jeté.

- Really? - Really.

Oh, I can't believe it.

Now we move on to the arabesque.

Mmmm a noble effort.

But for a proper arabesque, you must stretch out much further.

Now, use these to dust this table, and this chair.

Stretch your arm forward.

Life your leg back.

And dust, and dust.

And you missed a spot.

Kari, you're doing it.

You're doing an arabesque.

I am.

This is fun.

And now, I will teach you the glissade.

Watch how I do it.

But please, hold your applause until the end.

Now glissade to the right, and ring this bell.

Now over there, and ringy-ding ding.

You're doing great, Kari.

Thanks.

I'm really getting the hang of this now.

Just remember, girls.

In ballet, you dance not just with arms and legs, but with a joyful heart.

JAMES: Guys.

Guys, look at this.

I'm pretty sure this mop was the mane on Zoe's lion sculpture.

I'm not so sure, James.

In fact, I'm not so sure that mop was even part of the sculpture.

Yeah.

I think it fell out of the janitor's closet.

Oh, yeah.

But I still say it's a lion.

- Castle.

- Dragon.

Let's get started right away, girls.

This is our final rehearsal before the big show tonight.

Miss Elodie, thank you so much for setting up the lesson with Sergio yesterday.

He was amazing.

My, my.

You certainly learned the way to grande jeté.

I can even glissade and arabesque.

It looks like you girls are ready to rehearse the entire routine.

Remember, we start with the pirouette.

Kari, are you okay? No.

I could do a pirouette before.

Why did I mess it up now? Because it takes a lot of practice to get it right every time.

And we haven't worked on it in a while.

- Once more then.

- Okay.

Let me try again.

MISS ELODIE: Very nice.

This is awful! - I can't get it right.

- But you almost had it.

My parents will be watching tonight.

I don't wanna almost do it.

It has to be perfect.

I'm sorry.

I don't think I can be in the show.

Kari.

Wait! Well, the good news is, this is definitely the best dragon-lion-in a castle I've ever seen.

But that's not what Zoe made.

Yeah.

She is not gonna be happy.

( sighs ) You're right.

( footsteps approaching ) Uh-oh, here she comes now.

Quick.

Hide the dragon-lion.

Hi, guys.

The hall looks great.

- Thanks.

- Uh, is that my sculpture? - What sculpture? - Where? I don't see any sculpture.

That one right there.

What happened to my elephant? So that's what it was.

Okay, Zoe, the thing is, we accidentally knocked over your sculpture and it fell apart.

So we put it back together.

The bad news is, some things might not be in exactly the same place as you had them.

Or even close.

We are really sorry.

I can't believe what you did.

It looks even better than before.

It does? But it's totally different.

It doesn't matter.

Making it was the fun part.

That's true.

- It was.

- Yeah.

Hey, do you have any other sculptures - you want us to mess up? - Kari, come back! What's the point? I just can't do it, Sofia.

- Watch out.

- Stop! No! I messed up something else.

I'm ruining Arts Night.

It's okay.

Everyone makes mistakes.

And we can just put the sculpture back together.

- We did it before.

- It's really fun.

It's just like with dancing.

Doing it is the fun part, even if you don't do it perfectly.

But my parents-- Will see you having a great time dancing in the show.

You think ballet's fun, don't you? Yeah, I really do.

The last few days have been great, when I wasn't getting all mad at myself.

Then stop worrying and just do the show - because it's fun.

- Okay.

I'll do it.

Great.

Let's go change.

Oh, I hope you all enjoyed the art exhibit in the hall.

Now, onto the next Arts Night presentation.

Ladies and gentle kings, may I present to you Princess Sofia, Princess Amber, and Princess Kari! There's my mom and dad.

Just remember what Sergio said.

In ballet, you dance not just with arms and legs, - but with a joyful heart.

- Right.

( music starts ) - Kari! - Uh-oh.

She's doing the Kari hop! Let's do it, too.

Oh, fabulous.

Brava, girls.

- Mom, Dad, I'm sorry.

- Whatever for? I made all those mistakes.

My arabesque was wobbly, I completely flubbed my pirouette.

We don't expect you to do everything perfectly.

But, Mom, you were such an amazing ballerina.

I just wanted to do as well as you.

The most important thing is you did as well as you could.

We're so proud of you, Kari.

Thanks, Mom.

Kari, people are asking if you can show them how to do the Kari hop.

Do you mean that adorable dance move you were doing? I'd like to learn that.

- Me, too.

- I'm in.

Okay, just go like this with your arms, and hop on your leg like this.

- Ooh, I'm doing it! - Why, it is fun.

( laughing ) I'm having trouble with the Kari hop.

Yes, but you invented a new move.
