Martin: Planet Earth has many
different desert habitats

on different continents.

Chris: We're here in the
spectacular Sonoran Desert.

It's us, the Kratt Brothers...

I'm Chris.
Martin: I'm Martin.

Now this isn't the
natural habitat

of the animal we're looking for.

Chris: But we know a ranch
nearby, where we can get

an up close look at
this special creature.

Martin: Can you guess who?

Here's a clue Chris.

It's tall, has powerful legs
and can run really fast.

Whoaa!

Martin/Chris: Uh-oh, Ostrich!

Chris: They're all around us.

Martin: Wow! What
an amazing bird.

Oh. Talk about creature power.

The biggest bird in the world.

Chris: These big
birds can't fly,

but they have a lot of
other cool creature powers.

Strong powerful legs that
give ostrich the ability

to run really fast.

In fact, they're the fastest
running birds on earth.

And if they can't
outrun their predator,

they can use their powerful
feet with serious toe power.

The only bird with
only two toes,

and the toe can be used
as a w*apon to defend itself.

Martin: Uh-oh! Ostrich fight!

Whoa, they're really battling!

Chris: Now that's ostrich power!

They're ramming each
other chest to chest.

Martin: Using those feet,
kicking each other in the chest,

with those powerful leg muscles.

Male ostrich, they will use
their power to fight each other

and battle for dominance.

Imagine if we could
be on the look-out...

the brown feathers.

fierce protectors

of their eggs and chicks.

Chris: They take turns
watching over the nest.

But being brown, she's better
camouflaged during the day.

She's covering the eggs
and the piece of paper!

Martin: So how are we going
to get to the secret formula?

Chris: It's going to be tricky

because ostriches
are on the lookout.

Did you know that ostrich eyes

can be bigger than
giraffes eyes?

have three eye lids?

that you went in too slow.

So that means, we've
got to zip in and out

Even if they see me, I'll be
just a blur with cheetah powers.

With those strong long legs,
ostriches are fast too.

Martin: An ostrich can
run miles per hour.

Martin: And that ostrich
got a head start.

Martin: And if the ostrich
is at top speed,

you won't be able to
accelerate to cheetah speed,

before the ostrich catches you.

Chris: Wahhhh! Oof.

Martin: And by the way...
ostrich can kick forward.

Chris: Ohhhhhhhhh... . . . oh!

Martin: Okay, so the ostriches
are watching their eggs

while they're eating
grass and seeds.

Chris: So?
Martin: So,

if we go in teeny tiny,
they won't even notice us.

We'll just look
like little bugs.

they eat more than seeds.

Koki: Uh...we've got
another complication.

The eggs are hatching!

Martin: What?

Martin/Chris: The

they are communal nesters.

are bigger than a softball,

not quite as big
as a soccer ball.

Martin: And when
ostrich chicks hatch,

they're almost the size
of full grown chickens!

Get ready for some
super size chicks.

Hey, I can't see.

Chris: Neither can I.

Martin/Chris: Owww. Ahh...

Chris: Look!

Martin: Ohhhh...
Chris: Amazing.

When they first hatch,
the chicks can't even

lift their long necks.

Martin: Yeah but look
how big they are.

Martin/Chris: So cute!

Martin: In a weird kind of way.

Chris: Yeah kind of goofy cute.

Okay, now while they're
distracted by the chicks,

let's get the formula.

Martin: Why don't we just wait
until all the eggs are hatched

and the chicks leave the nest?

Trust me bro, you don't want
to get kicked by an ostrich.

Aviva: We can't wait!

According to the research
that'll take a few days

for the chicks
to leave the nest.

We need that secret
formula by pm tonight!

Chris: Why is it so important?
Martin: Yeah, why?

Aviva: It just is.
And these will help.

ostrich power discs.

Now this will be easy.

we can just saunter in
there as part of the flock.

that creature adventuring.

Jimmy Z: Hmm, it sure is!

Martin: So ostrich
are one big bird

with all sorts of
creature powers.

Chris: Yeah, I'm not even sure

what my favorite
creature power is.

I love the eyeballs.

For their head size, ostriches
have the biggest eyeball

in the creature world.

And look, they have
an extra eyelid

called a nictitating eyelid.

They are clear eyelids
that move sideways

and act like windshield wipers

keeping dust and
sand out of their eye.

They also have
a super long neck

that they use to
periscope around

looking for any signs of danger.

Martin: Ostrich can turn
their heads degrees.

That means an ostrich can turn
its head all the way backwards.

Ostrich: (hissing)

Chris: Yeah, that really
is a creature power

because on the African savannah

where you have to look out
for danger and predators

like lions, it's
a great defence.

Martin, which is your favorite
ostrich creature power?

Martin: You know, I just
like how big they are.

Being a big bird like this,
there's a lot of predators

that can't even mess with you,
you're just too big and strong.

Oh yeah, these birds
are really big.

This is the size of
an average chicken.

This is me.

And here's the height
of an ostrich.

Like all birds,
ostrich lay eggs.

Here's a chicken egg

and this is an ostrich egg.

Whoa.

It's the biggest bird egg
in the creature world!

Martin: They all look
pretty much alike,

but you can tell the
males from the females.

See the red beak right
there, that's a male,

and the males have
black feathers.

Females have grayish brown
feathers and a black beak.

The beaks are great for
stripping leaves and vegetation

for the ostrich to eat,

...and for cleaning.

Ostrich are so amazing,

I could hang out with
these guys all day.

Chris: But it's
time to get rolling.
