What do you think everyone is looking at?

The sun.

Look at that colorful sunset.

That's awesome.

Mrs. Pepper: it's getting dark out, too.

Mr. Salt: that means it's nighttime.

Tickety: I'm going to put on my pajamas.

Hey, it's getting close to our bedtime, too.

But I'm not tired.

Extra-special tonight.

I mean, it's our first pajama party

Steve, it's time for nighttime flash and find.

When do you think he sleeps?

I sleep during the daytime when you're awake.

And when you sleep at night, I'm awake

Looking around with my big eyes.

Wow, very different schedules.

[Chirping sound]

Listen, I hear another animal sound.

I usually do, but I never miss a pajama party.

Our mission is to explore the starry sky

In search of the meaning of night.

[Blue barks]

It is kind of bright out here.

Where do you think that light is coming from?

The sun!

What are you doing up at night?

Well, I'm the sun, a star that's bright.

A star that's always shining light.

Always?

Day or night.

Always shining day or night?

Then why is it dark at night?

A very important planet-- your home.

Our home?

So, what planet is home to me and you?

Earth!

Oh, yeah, the planet earth!

Hey, I can see our house.

Hey, tickety, shovel, pail

Look, whoo-hoo, we're in space.

We're trying to figure out

Why it's night down there. Okay.

So, is it light or dark

Where our house is?

It's dark.

Oh, it's dark, right.

So, if it's dark there

What is it over there?

Light!

It's light, right.

That's right-- the light comes from me.

It's daytime where I'm shining.

Oh, okay, so where the sun is shining, it's day.

But then why is it dark at our house?

It's night.

Oh, it's night, right.

The sun's not shining there.

But I thought the sun was always shining.

I am, but I'm just not shining

On your house right now.

Your house is in a shadow, see?

Shadow?

Oh, yeah, look at this, see?

Over here in the shadow, it's dark.

That's night...

And over here where the sun is shining

That's day.

Pretty clever, eh?

Ooh, hold on, hold on.

It's not always going to be night at our house, is it?

Well, then how do you think it changes from night to day?

Or from shadow to sunlight?

Psst, over here.

It's something I'm doing.

Something earth is doing.

Do you know?

What is earth doing that makes it change from night to day?

Spinning.

Yeah, I'm spinning.

And when I spin around this way

Your house will go from night to day.

Oh, the earth is spinning.

So, the sun is always shining...

Light.

And the earth is always...

Spinning.

When the sun shines on us, it's...

Day.

When the sun's not shining on us, it's...

Night.

Because we're in a great, big shadow.

That's night.

Right.

[Yawning]: a book is our third clue.

Hey, do you know what that means?

We're ready to sit in our...

Let's go.

Ah...

Okay, now that we're in our thinking chair

Let's think.

You'll help me, right?

Great.

So, we're trying to figure out

What blue wants to do tonight.

And our clues are:

A sleeping bag...

A lamp...

And a book.

So, what could blue want to do tonight

With a sleeping bag, a lamp and a book?

Well, a lamp gives us... Light, right

Like to see something.

Maybe we can get in our sleeping bags and turn on the lamp.

Then what could we see?

The book! Yeah!

Then what would we be doing?

Reading a book.

Reading a book-- that's it!

Blue wants to get in her sleeping bag

And read a book by the light of a lamp.

We just figured out blue's clues!

♪ Cause we're really tired

♪ I mean, smart.

My tube of toothpaste, very minty.

Why don't you go to the bedroom and pick out a book?

Ah... All cleaned up and ready for bed.

Hey, blue, what story did you pick?

Oh, "good night, bird."

That's one of blue's favorites.

Shovel and pail: wait for us.

Okay, is everybody ready?

"Good night, bird."

"On a tree on a hill

"Lived a bird that would not sleep.

"'I'm not tired,' bird said

"As the sun turned pink and the sky turned dark.

"'Sleep,' said the sun. 'You need your rest.'

"'Now close your eyes, get in your nest.'

"'But I'm not tired,' bird said

"As the sun went down and the moon lit up.

"'Sleep,' said the moon. 'Now, I mean that.'

"'You're a little bird, you're not a bat.'"

[Imitates bird yawning]

"'I'm not tired,' bird said with a yawn

"And the owl woke up and the stars came out.

"'Sleep,' said the stars, 'we saw you yawn.'

"'Now lay your beak down, don't wake till dawn.'

"'I'm... Not.. Tired'

"Bird said one time more

"And he closed his eyes and began to snore.

And he snored, and he snored, and he snored."
