In a town in Sicily Chief lnspector Marineo, is k*lled.

That same day, there's news of another death.

Marchioness Pecci Scialoia has k*lled herself.

Corrado Cattani replaces the m*rder*d lnspector and moves to Sicily with wife Else and daughter Paola.

Investigating his predecessor's death, Corrado meets Titti, the junkie daughter of the su1c1de noblewoman and gradually falls for her.

His marriage to Else has been on the rocks for a while.

Titti tells Corrado that Cirinna, a heroin trafficker, k*lled her mother and lnspector Marineo.

Titti, fearful of Cirinna and dependent on the dr*gs he gives her, didn't dare report him to the police.

Corrado won't use her testimony to avoid vendettas against her and decides to provoke Cirinna who out of frustration sets an ambush for him.

The lnspector expected it.

Cirinna is wounded and ends up in jail.

Else, Corrado's wife, ends up cheating on her husband and the two separate but their child wants to stay with her father.

Now that Cirinna is in jail, Titti feels safe and is trying to detox herself.

The two, who are now in love, seem to be headed for a happy time.

OCTOPUS EPlSODE FOU R How are you, Mum? Franchino, how are you? What's wrong? You must find a way to get me out of here.

I can't take it.

I'll go crazy.

I'm scared.

- Don't abandon me.

- What are you scared of? - You look drawn.

- She thinks of you and cries.

Don't worry, Sante.

We'll get you out.

You will, Ma.

Sir I hoped to meet you here.

Or I might not have found the will to talk to you.

- Was it Don Manfredi? - No, I persuaded myself.

By seeing you in person and on TV.

My family's been in trouble with the law.

Leo knew that.

They k*lled him after he spoke to my brother in jail.

My brother was arrested by Marineo a year ago.

He worked for a money changer who launders drug money.

There were newspaper articles and he took the fall.

They promised to get him out of jail after two months.

But after a year inside, my brother was desperate.

When they transferred him here I convinced him to tell Leo the truth.

Who was the money changer in Palermo? A tourist agency owned by Ravanusa.

- You're sure? - Yes, but it doesn't exist now.

Look, my brother wants to tell you everything now.

You're being moved.

Gather up your stuff.

- You're leaving me alone? - Orders from above.

The cell's all yours.

Have you got friends in high places? I don't know anyone! You ready? Then let's go.

Guard You forgot to close the door.

Guard Who's there? What are you doing, boys? Please don't hurt me.

Franco! Franco! Franco He was found hanged in his cell this morning.

- su1c1de.

- k*lled.

He was k*lled.

- What nonsense.

- I tell you he was k*lled.

This may not ease your pain, but it's as if with his death, your brother's told me everything he knew.

As if he's given me names.

Then if you know, catch them.

And hurry.

Hurry! Well? Sorry, Dad, I can't sleep.

I'm scared.

Come here.

Always barefoot! Why are you scared? Why are they k*lling all these people? I tell you what Go to your room, get into bed and I'll come and do my work in your room.

Thanks.

- Yes? - Is Pecci Scialoia with you? What's going on? She's left Don Manfredi's centre.

She was on anti-dealer duty but she ran off.

- Weren't there men on guard? - They didn't see her.

I want a report! Come and get me.

- Must you go out, Dad? - I'm sorry, Paola.

It's okay.

- Poli 2.

- Go ahead.

- A girl's been sighted.

- Where? I'll check.

- Cattani here.

Go ahead.

- She's at the junk yard.

- Where's that? - Nearby.

- We'll go.

- Drug dealers go there.

The head dealer is Ciccio u Petrosino.

If you need me, I'll be at the office later on.

So since Cirinna's in jail you're using Ciccio u Petrosino.

So, do you know him? I've only heard of him.

You left the centre at night to go looking for him.

Do you realise how risky that is? I don't want to go back to Don Manfredi.

I don't want to go back.

I don't want to go back.

Stop the car.

- Stay calm.

- Please! Then go fast.

Speed and break your neck.

You're against me too.

You're all enemies.

You're all against me but you must die before me.

Then I'll finally be free.

What is it you want? My money? My palace? Help with your career? What do you want? When will you piss off to your wife? - I love you.

- Then leave me alone.

- Let me go to ruin.

- I love you.

- No, Cirinna loves me! - Stop it.

- Only he loves me.

- Not true.

Yes, let me out.

Titti You've surrounded me like hyenas.

You've surrounded me like hyenas.

Why did you knock on my door? You entered my home like a thief.

You have the eyes of a snake.

You disgust me.

Enough, enough She jumped the wall and could have broken her neck.

It's hard for her to decide to stay in here.

It's hard.

Cavallari, I told you to watch her every move.

Sir, she jumped over the back wall.

You lost sight of her on the bike, too.

She goes down narrow alleys on her bike.

How can we follow her? Excuses! Don't let this happen again.

Anna, I'd like you to look after Titti, if possible.

I've told Don Manfredi I can't stay here any more.

Goodbye, lnspector.

First her fiance, then her brother.

They've wrecked her life.

But getting back to our young people, we really can help them.

But they must be shielded from whatever upsets them.

Don't you think you should stay away from Titti? You think I upset Titti What if the opposite were true? Inspector, you're mixing your commitment to justice with your personal passions.

And that can lead to dangerous confusion.

I know.

Ravanusa the benefactor! There are fishermen, front men who've turned into developers with Ravanusa's low interest credit.

Bogus companies awarded contracts for public buildings, ports, tollways Officials and professionals making a fortune! - Now it's up to the Prosecutor.

- He's well intentioned But he's wary.

I want a direct investigation into the banking status of people and companies under suspicion.

I want to check all entries for the past 3 years including drafts and personal cheques.

Then we'll see if this prosecutor is simply a wary man or rather, a dishonest, wary man.

No, no Sir, I'm in total agreement with you.

Let's strike the mafiosi wherever they are but let's not involve the innocent.

I'm not saying this town is clean, but we run the risk of tarnishing everyone.

If I granted your request, I'm sure you'd find something, but what about the innocent people? Honest working people who'd suddenly be maligned and in the glare of the press? We'll just investigate them and if they're guilty I agree with you.

"lf they're guilty" But when? In a month, two months, a year? If we rashly apply the anti Mafia laws, people will lose their reputation, their career and maybe even their life.

No, we need more thorough preliminary investigations and very confidential.

You can't panic a town over mere suspicions thus supporting those accusing us of a northern plot, regretting that Sicily didn't secede from ltaly.

We'll throw away months of investigations.

To me, the most important issue is the balance between two loyalties.

Loyalty towards the rights of the individual and the right of society to be defended.

Fine words, but tell me, are you refusing to authorise a bank audit of these people? Precisely, and you know why? Because the law refers to "presumed mafiosi" and you haven't demonstrated that presumption to me! The Minister next to me.

Corrado! What a surprise! - Congratulations on your win.

- I must congratulate you! I hear you're doing well.

It can't have been easy to sort out a matter like that and jail a mafioso of that calibre.

Well done.

Good hit.

We can hit even harder if you'll help me persuade our prosecutor to audit the accounts of certain people.

A prominent banker, irreproachable professionals industrialists, and a famous lawyer are directly and indirectly the financiers and beneficiaries of an important drug ring.

So this isn't about a small hoodlum anymore.

I'll stake my career on it.

What's the Prosecutor's position? "Moderation", "moderation" He's the kind of person who won't move a stone in case there are worms under it.

I'd say he goes where the wind blows.

I'll give him a call.

But don't expect a miracle.

Only you can help me.

I'm not God.

The cargo has reached it's destination.

We can do the final accounts for the year.

The Lugano Bahamas banking route is the best, given the situation.

As for the other m*llitary supplies we have, where's the best market? Africa, Middle East, Central America? They're all good.

For the $400,000 deposit, can I have your account number in Lugano? Go on, my friend.

X32 X32 Red Rose.

- All done, sir.

- Goodbye.

Goodbye.

You know my account number? There are no secrets between us.

That's how our ties become binding.

Lastly, two minor issues.

Firstly, your protege the lnspector, is going too far.

He's creating problems for our friends.

Speak to him.

Not me.

I prefer a less direct route.

It seems there's an obliging prosecutor down there.

Secondly, the Atlas agency snapped a photo of me.

Please retrieve the negative.

Like a primitive man, I don't want people to have my picture.

It would be like having your soul.

Congratulations, sir.

You've more than deserved this high office thanks to your qualities.

To what do I owe the pleasure of this call? There's a bit of trouble at the bank, isn't there? Oh, it's about the initiative of our Chief lnspector? I know he's your protege but we can't incriminate an entire town.

That's a lie.

I have no proteges.

He was simply my pupil at the Police Academy and I don't condone what he's doing.

You know I'm not in favour of it either.

But an opinion isn't enough, my friend.

It'll take more than that and I'm not speaking just from a personal point of view.

You'll be responsible for the social unrest that might arise from hasty actions so you must stop him in time.

That fellow can have fun arresting petty criminals but he mustn't touch the banks.

If he submits new evidence, don't act without calling me.

Tell him clearly that this isn't a matter for the police.

Understand? Allow me to bring to your attention sir, that we are two separate powers of the State.

You're speaking to a Prosecutor.

We can talk and be in agreement, but if it's an order At times, the State must override everything.

And it must be free to make decisions and give orders.

Certain young people need reining in.

No one can do it better than their superiors.

There's too much anarchy and we must curb all bouts of ingenuity that only lead to scandals.

Scandals that young upstarts take advantage of.

Do you agree? Please keep me informed.

You seem to be asking me to be your informant.

Why not? Modern life is based on information.

You could gain from this too if you're discreet.

We'll talk soon, my friend.

Find lnspector Cattani for me, please.

I'll give you the go ahead.

I'll sign the authorisations you asked for today.

There's nothing worse for an honest man than to be stroked by hypocrisy and slapped around by arrogance.

So I 'm leaving.

I 'm resigning.

And if you'll take my advice, don't forget that heroes are not well regarded neither here, nor elsewhere.

You're pushing forward very, very forward.

Perhaps even more forward than you realise.

But you know what you're doing.

Goodbye.

- I want to thank you, sir.

- For what? The Prosecutor authorised the bank audits.

- When? - Today after your call, I assume.

All it took was your call! My power surprises me too.

- So you're going ahead? - Of course.

- Should I stop? - No, please continue.

You must continue.

And all the best.

Sorry, I must hang up now.

I'm in a meeting.

Your Excellency What's going on? I know that Finance officer.

I wonder what's going on.

Look at Ravanusa.

He's like a toad about to burst.

He'll burst under the weight of his money.

He's cancelled the overdrafts and now he's ruined.

Cusimano rang this morning and told me to tell Francuzzo they're turning the bank inside out.

What did Francuzzo say? He's left for an unknown destination.

This happened because of Cirinna.

Cirinna! He doesn't have any enemies.

Besides, why would he spill the beans? The reality is, this goes beyond Cirinna.

Sir, here's the raw material.

Good.

Now we'll see if I was dreaming.

You're no dreamer.

When do we start? - Guess.

- Right away! We'll keep at it.

Day and night, like students at exam time.

- Is this all? - No.

Martini, bring us two coffees.

Thanks.

Martini, I want to know in advance who visits Cirinna in jail.

Yes, sir.

So There are many people in town who think we won't understand these bank documents.

And we'll prove them wrong.

Accounts was my best subject.

Money, money, money.

Names, names, names Which of these people can afford to have me k*lled? All of them.

A k*ller costs between 3 and 5 million lire.

- Unless the target is a big wig.

- Aren't I big enough? Not at all.

You're worth all six million! As soon as the first warrants are issued, my stocks will rise! Let's cross our fingers and hope they go down.

This is the plan of a very special transaction.

Look, here we have 5 accounts.

A, B, C, D and E.

An amount is taken out and goes to form a new so-called "lung" account because it fills and empties very quickly.

But out of a love of nature, we'll call it "Jasmine".

So, a sum leaves this account, which goes to finance a mysterious, illegal deal which - Are you following? - You speak very well.

Thank you.

So, once the deal is done, the amount goes into a new "lung" account, which we'll call "Poppy".

Part of the profit goes to the bank, but the most substantial amount goes back to replenish the accounts of the single financiers with 1 00% profit.

So what was the purpose of all this? To cover and finance and illegal deal with massive profits.

But above all, to provide anonimity to the single financiers.

Have you ever amused yourself with such games? I'm afraid I'm unable to tell you anything specific.

My accountant takes care of all my business.

I don't follow my transactions closely.

I don't know enough.

I'm a jeweller, a shop owner.

Who advised these investments? The bank, of course.

I only trust my bank.

You never wondered where all that money came from? Why Ravanusa earned such outrageous amounts? I never asked myself.

Yes, I did ask myself.

Many times.

And when I found the answer, I cancelled those investments.

Prof.

Cristina, you're well respected.

You treat the poor free of charge.

I admit I was rash with some of my friendships.

My only customers now are your officers and the Finance Police.

You've cleared out my bank.

I'm sorry, Mr Ravanusa, but it was necessary.

Not as sorry as those who live off my loans! You're pursuing justice but you're affecting the cash flow of many companies.

The same companies you finance with those strange collective investments? Those strange investments as you call them, support the building industry, tourism, wholesale trade and the farms in this town.

- What's going on? - There's a lock out.

You're starving us.

- I didn't close the site.

- Then have it reopen.

We will.

The unions will step in.

I will arrest all troublemakers both here and elsewhere.

The lock out is a move against you but it's also a move against me.

What do you lose? I'll shut it down.

It's impossible to work in these conditions.

Fortunately, I can leave.

I'll sack everyone.

I'll take my family and belongings and leave! I'll go where the air isn't so foul.

I'm just sorry for my workers who'll starve.

What will you do during your forced holiday? I'll listen to music, which I love, and I'll try to relax and try to forget what they've done to me.

Financial blackmail! They want to turn everyone against us.

- You've grown.

- Five centimetres in a year.

No, last year you came up to my waist.

You forgot your tip.

I don't want it.

What does that mean? Why don't you want it? I don't want it from you.

Listen here, young man Why won't you take my tip? You closed the building site and my father's unemployed.

A lot of money in the building industry is from drug trafficking.

Did you know that? I'm a policeman.

What do you think I should do? How should I know? Should I turn a blind eye? Should I forget about it? Those dr*gs give us a living.

But also death! The money from the bank's customers isn't used to finance legal businesses, but to pay Middle Eastern drug suppliers.

Fishing boats then unload the dr*gs onto private beaches.

Sounds far fetched.

Yes, but it's worth millions of dollars a year, tax free.

The dr*gs are turned into heroin and shipped out.

Thanks.

How, with homing pigeons? No, with oranges, lemons, furniture, or with couriers visiting family in New York and returning with dollars.

How intriguing.

I'm tempted to try it.

But you'll have to launder the dollars.

In ltaly you'll need an obliging money changer who'll process them as transfers from migrants or tourist dollars Iike your friend Ravanusa's agency.

Leo De Maria and Anna Caruso's brother d*ed because they found out what that agency was for.

Then what? If the money goes to Switzerland, then you need a bank who'll finance a building company like yours, so the money can return to ltaly clean.

Brilliant.

Have you put this to a banker? Such wasted talent.

Yes, well Every so often, I pretend I'm democratic and I come to eat with our dear workers.

That's a trick used by many.

- A drink? - No.

Whenever I see you, I'm full of regrets.

You're the man I'd like to have by my side.

Just think of the deals we could do together.

You seem to be asking me to become one of the many front men you need for your companies.

You haven't a clue.

A business partner, then.

Is it an attempt at corruption? You haven't a clue.

You're a very nice woman.

And if one day I'll have to arrest you, I'll be very sorry to.

Oh no No.

No? - Are you sure? - You can count on it.

You sent the Finance Police to my place but they found nothing because there were no irregularities in my accounts and there never will be.

So forget about seeing me escorted by two policemen.

You're also very intelligent, more than all the others.

I don't know who the others are.

But there's no doubt that I'm intelligent.

I planned out my life when I was 1 5, by becoming first the mistress and then the wife of an ugly, but very rich man who was 40 years my senior.

But when he got sick, I cared for him lovingly for 5 long years.

You know why I did it? Because I owed him a lot.

He educated me He sent me to school.

He made me learn languages.

And I also speak French, but I'm not part of the jet set.

I'm here in this hole, defending my interests from 6am to 8pm! And I believe I deserve everything I have.

Maybe I shouldn't have developed too much interest for a kind of man I've always avoided.

What kind? A moralist.

How odious.

Why shed tears over drug addicts? Those who take dr*gs couldn't have done anything else in their lives.

- I know a few.

- Titti Pecci Scialoia.

Yes.

Oppressed by all possible privileges and mistress of a vulgar hoodlum.

You think you can free her from her habit but I'll bet everything that you'll fail.

Cirinna, your lawyer's here.

Guard "I'm in prison" I told you to tell the officer that the tap hasn't been repaired.

You're a fool.

Firstly, you use a junkie for a delicate matter like De Maria.

Then you fall for the lnspector's provocation.

You'll die because of women and I'd be happy to let you if I weren't your father's friend.

Yes, but you're not here just as my father's friend.

Titti is unapproachable.

The lnspector follows her around like a dog.

There's no way of talking to her at the Centre.

Unless we solve the problem, you're in trouble.

If I could get out of here I'd know what to say to her.

You should have stayed on the outside, but you're in here and if she talks, you'll spend the rest of your life here.

Only she knows who k*lled her mother and Marineo.

Yes, but she hasn't talked.

If she had talked, she would have been called as a witness.

We don't know what the lnspector is thinking.

No, no We must regain control of the situation.

If Titti stays on dr*gs, no problem, but they want to cure her and if she blabs Sir, would you do me a favour? Ask my cousins to visit me.

I've given you the facts.

Now it's up to you.

This is your last card.

Send her dr*gs by all means, but add some strychnine to it.

Call me.

There's more stuff.

Bye, darling.

Titti So who has the note? - Where was it? - On Titti's bed.

- Was anyone here tonight? - No Oh, yes, Tommaso.

Look for Tommaso and we'll look for Titti.

Titti You two look down there.

Titti, answer us.

- Who did this? - Tommaso! He smuggled the stuff in.

We must find him.

Let's look for him.

Titti, where are you? He's here! I've found him.

You bastard.

Don Manfredi, they're bashing Tommaso.

Get out! Get out! - Who gave it to you? - I don't know them.

- Who? - I was threatened.

Who gave it to you? I want names.

I can't k*ll her.

I love her, understand? I don't care! And stop shouting.

You know the best solution for you? Find a rope and hang yourself.

Watch out, sir.

I have my men too.

Don't play God with me.

Let's be serious.

Ever since that cop's been sniffing around we're all in danger.

We must eliminate the girl.

She must be left alone.

She's not to be touched.

Then keep her and die for her.

As you've seen, she won't say a thing against me.

Can't you see that the real problem here is the cop? We must find another solution.

Sir, aren't you saying anything? Sir That's Terrasini, the lawyer.

He made a mistake coming to talk to Cirinna.

They're getting edgy.

Your lnspector's here.

Hi.

Hi.

Sorry to drag you away from your work.

I have to tell you that that I sh*t up in here a few days ago.

Who gave you the stuff? Someone was ordered to bring it to me.

I'm so sorry.

Look, Titti, I can't watch you suffer like this.

Don't think you'll get better in a matter of days.

You'll be banging your head against the wall many times.

But I'll always be by your side.

- It's about to end.

- I've been busy.

Reaction to the thr*at of nuclear w*r has been mild.

Sure, there were the so-called peace marches only good for wearing out your soles, my friends.

Meanwhile, there are countless homeless earthquake victims.

Unemployed with no hope of a job.

Corruption is on the rise, h*m* is rampant.

It's a moral and financial catastrophe for our poor ltaly but we won't allow it! Forceful, isn't he? - It depends.

What's his name? - Professor Laudeo.

- Why does he want to see me? - You've become famous.

No, I wouldn't go down that path.

You know how sensitive they can be.

Do as I say.

Good evening.

See you in Rome on Saturday.

Goodbye.

See how good I am? I've brought him to Palermo.

Santamaria beats his own drum.

He's vain, but harmless.

Now leave us alone, please.

Inspector I've been wanting to tell you I'm a fan of yours.

I've been watching you since you left the Police Academy.

Really? Why is that? Take a seat.

I have friends who point out new talent to me.

You've been a Godsend.

- A drink? - No, thanks.

Why are you looking for talent? Because it's rare and useful.

I want to inject new blood into my organisation.

What are its aims? Italy.

Only ltaly.

Our country's future.

I'm sure a man like you, of such moral rectitude can and must go very far! Well, I might disappoint you.

I'm not so exceptional No, forget the modesty.

The path to the top is much easier than you think.

For those with the right qualities.

It's a national duty to make a man like you Chief lnspector in Florence or Genoa or higher still, maybe close to government.

As you know, it only takes good public relations and interviews in leading papers.

It's a prospect that's enticing and possible.

But you must continue with your success.

Be fearless.

Don't let anything stop you.

And if other scandals are about to explode, you light the fuse.

I know it's hard to do it alone.

You could help me.

Not me.

My organisation.

We're clean people ready to join the crusade to save ltaly from disaster.

We're apolitical although some of us are in public life.

All it takes is a word.

The power of a word can be huge.

For us, power will be the w*apon against corruption, bureacracy, parasites all that is rotten, including the Mafia whose criminal links pollute the sun of your beautiful Sicily.

You see, lnspector, when one is as honest as you, intelligent, and one loves one's country, everything becomes simple and the path becomes obvious.

He talked for 2 hours, gave me his private number and naturally said to call him at any time, for anything.

- At what price? - No, no price.

What I managed to glean through all the waffle, is that my professional success should be piloted according to his suggestions.

But I could be wrong.

- What did he promise you? - To get me to the top.

But he insisted I join this moral organisation which he heads.

Did he mention names? Journalists, generals, industrialists, politicians People he refers to with a familiarity I find suspicious.

In short, he's an important man.

I don't know.

The man doesn't seem much to me.

He comes across as very cunning and mediocre who represents a very real power.

What do you advise? You know the situation.

Put him to the test.

How? Well, he might turn out to be an idealist a sincere idealist who has many contacts or an inflated balloon which will deflate.

Okay.

You judge.

This is a test.

A test of your intelligence.

Understand? - Thank you.

- Bye.

Here, Sir.

There's also the handwriting expert's report.

The signatures on the Jasmine account are by Ravanusa, but Terrasini's are on the Poppy account.

Forged endorsements released funds for the financiers and those that vanished in Rome, Naples, Milan, Turin processed by bogus companies headed by reckless bankers, international traffickers, and maybe political organisations.

But the largest slice stays in town and ends up in Terrasini's account.

A flamboyant man beyond suspicion.

I pictured him defending Ravanusa or Cirinna.

But if the evidence convinces you, sir, Terrasini will be on the other side of the bench.

I see you've shaken up this lethargic town.

Boring on the surface, but deep down Why did the last prosecutor give you the go ahead? That's a mystery.

At first he opposed it, then Paola Paola! Why are you there in the dark? What's that worried look about? Did you talk to Mum? But something's happened.

You want to tell me? But you don't know how.

Do you feel ill? Then I'll call a doctor.

Yes, yes.

We'll call a doctor.

Paola, open the door.

Go on.

Paola, open the door.

Why are you doing this? Paola's become a young lady.

I'm going home.

Good night, sir.

Good night.

Irina! Paoletta.

I think you should call Mum and tell her what's happened.

Did you hear me? Paoletta.

I think you should call Mum, have a chat and Hi, Mum.

Dad said to call you because this morning I became a young lady.

A young lady? Darling, that's wonderful.

You should see poor Dad.

He doesn't know what to do.

Did he really tell you to call me? Yes, Dad told me to call you and tell you what happened.

Look, Dad isn't a bad person.

I never said he was.

Maybe I'm the bad one.

- Are you sad? - No But I miss you.

I think that you're changing and I'm far away.

And who knows when we'll - What did you say? - Nothing.

I hope to see you soon.

I love you very much.

Bye.

- How's Mum? - So so.

Dad Is it true you love someone else? Yes.

Will you go and live with her? She's lonely and she isn't well.

My only aim is to make her better.

- What's her name? - Her name is Titti.

Can I meet her? Do you like it? They're all beautiful.

Choose one.

You can put it in your bedroom.

I can't accept.

Dad says that people often use gifts to buy you.

But not Titti and it wasn't nice of you.

Sorry, Titti.

No, don't worry.

And maybe I did want to buy your friendship.

Why are you looking at us like that? No reason.

This house is huge.

You get lost in it.

Well? I couldn't expect more from a first meeting.

Inspector! You like these stairs! Judge Bordonaro is a nice fellow, isn't he? - Forget the interviews.

- Yes, sure.

But our friend Laudeo expects an answer.

I'll call him one of these days.

Goodbye.

Actually, tell him I'll call for something he wouldn't expect.

You're very intelligent, sir.

Proud, honest, maybe even arrogant.

You know so many adjectives, Santamaria! I'd like to propose a new game.

Instead of Soccer Pools, let's play Dead Man Pools.

What is Dead Man Pools supposed to be? Be clear.

It's simple.

Instead of guessing matches, we must guess who'll be the first in town to be sh*t by persons unknown! And in our parts, when there's an upstart who stirs things up, somehow, there's always someone who'll silence him.

So, in your opinion, who's the favourite? Santamaria since we're joking around, may I speak freely? My brother? Don Manfredi should be much more careful.

When priests are involved, it's a case of shotguns and bells.

Besides, priests have always had a vocation for martyrdom.

But Don Manfredi's in the clear.

He's too well loved and respected to be touched.

We haven't picked a second one.

That upstart Chief lnspector is a bastard.

For you it's personal as he arrested your son.

- Yes, but unjustly! - Oh, sure.

Platto As the refined poet you are who are you betting on? I'll bet half a million I don't have, on the Prosecutor.

Forgive me, Platto, but stay well away from certain risks.

I see the Prosecutor in 4th place, at the most.

And Olga? As for the upstart, as you call him, I like him alive! I know.

We all know you like him alive.

In fact, very alive! Don't worry, Countess, no one wants to k*ll the lnspector or the Prosecutor.

But the lnspector might k*ll the Prosecutor.

Unless the Prosecutor kills the lnspector! - Sir, can we talk? - Is there news? We must find a solution.

You can't keep going around like this.

You want to lock me up? No, you should travel only between home and work.

Like your more sensible colleagues do.

You can't go wherever you like because maybe right now someone's plotting to k*ll you.

Probably.

But the Mafia hit their enemies before they can act.

But I've already started the wheels of justice turning.

You're amazingly optimistic.

At least wear a flack jacket.

It wouldn't help much with professionals.

Forgive me for saying this, but can't we make sure that girl isn't let out of Don Manfredi's Centre? Why? It's the escort.

You need it more than she does.

I think she needs it more.

Do you trust that girl completely? I mean, given her past and her condition Maybe you can't always believe what she says.

If I were wrong, it would be the biggest defeat of my life.

Don't be blind.

They'll make you pay somehow.

Try to be careful.

I'll be right back.

Paola Hello.

We have your daughter.

Don't give anything away.

Don't tell anyone.

Or else your daughter dies a horrible death.

You'll hear from us.

Calm down.

Stay calm I must stay calm.

That's it, I must stay calm.
