03x06 - Episode 6

Post by bunniefuu »

The tragic events that have always shaped his life have left Corrado Cattani alone.

He retreats to a monastery where he meets Abbot Lovani but his new found peace is doomed to last only a short time.

After returning to Milan to work with American federal agent Bert di Donato, who is on the trail of international arms trafficker Kemal Yfter, Corrado courageously saves a young girl called Greta from being kidnapped.

He meets Greta's family and her older sister Giulia Antinari who he falls in love with.

He also meets Greta's father Carlo Antinari, and Dino Aessi, a man with ambiguous ties who is the General Manager of the bank Bert and Corrado discover that he's implicated in shady deals with Yfter.

Corrado realises that Nicola the founder of the Antinari empire, has started dealing with the mafia and with Corrado's old friend Terrasini, the lawyer.

The mafia's involvement disturbs the peace Dino is k*lled by Tano, one of Nicola's contacts Abbot Lovani, the man who tried to help Corrado, is m*rder*d in the convent.

The cruelty of the mafia v*olence doesn't even spare innocent Anna, Giulia's mother Corrado realizes that he can't leave his old life behind yet, He retrieves the g*n that he gave to Abbot Lovani and goes to Rome.

The situation gets out of control: Professor Mattinera, who Abbot Lovani had turned to, is actually a mysterious person who is involved in Yfter's criminal dealings.

The Octopus 3 It's the nicest time of the day, isn't it? Yeah.

And it's always this calm, this peaceful It's hard to believe that terrible things happen during the day.

You did well to come here.

Sicily is beautiful this time of year I would have preferred to go to Rome with Corrado, though.

Rome is an evil city.

Then perhaps it's the right place to find out who k*lled my mother.

Is that why Mr.

Cattani went to Rome? What Monsters! I'd like them all to die.

All of them! Professor Mattinera is digging in his heels.

I'm worried about it.

We should try and avoid any more problems.

Why are you telling me? I don't want to know.

It's your problem.

Mattinera is a very important man.

What we are doing is also very important.

For everyone.

We can find what you're looking for before Cattani does.

What do you mean, "we"? I mean Mr.

Antinari.

Your family is very powerful, Giulia.

I don't know if you have ever realized that.

We were not powerful enough to prevent them from doing whatever they wanted with us That was a difficult time.

But now things are starting to work out and I'm sorry, but it seems a little ridiculous, for you to be putting your faith in a man like Cattani, in the hope of finding something that your grandfather is a lot closer than you think.

Tarsoni? Tarsoni? Tarso Good evening.

Senator Tarsoni sends his apologies He will be here in a few minutes.

Sit down if you would like to.

And who are you? I I am one of your potential backers.

I have been following you with great interest.

That reminds me, a couple of days ago some journalists reported on your most recent defense policy.

I found it very, very interesting Very moving.

I'm sorry, would you like to sit down? There you go.

So I understood you to be saying that due to our country's unusual strategic geographic location, we need peace and security more than any other country.

Of course, we cannot rely simply on missiles for defense We also need to be shrewd and careful, and diplomatic Is that right? You have understood me perfectly.

But at the moment, I think that our beloved country needs actions rather than words.

Our beloved country! I have heard you say this phrase so often.

So, tell me something, how can you, who loves this country so much, sell it out to a foreign secret service? And to an arms trafficker? Who are you? What do you want? I am a representative of the Italian public.

Don't you even speak about the Italian public.

Tell me, where are they from? Where are the goods coming from? What is it carrying? Tell me! Tell me! Captain, you cannot do this! Don't move.

In my house! I told you not to move! But you promised me.

Don't move, senator.

And you, tell me everything! Tell me! Okay I will tell you, I will tell you everything.

The goods are arriving tomorrow at the border but I don't know exactly where.

Who is the seller? Kemal Yfter.

For who? The goods comes from the United States.

It was stolen from a m*llitary storage facility.

And who's the buyer? An Arab country.

What sort of arms are they? I don't know.

Where are they going? To Sicily.

Whereabouts in Sicily? To the west coast, to Port Licudi Who organized this? Tell me! You know who, tell me! Tell me! Terrasini I'm going to take you in now for questioning.

What are you going to do now? I am going to turn you in and testify against you.

Have you thought about the consequences? It will be a scandal.

I have an important public role in this country.

Thousands of people trust me.

Thousands of people that you have deceived.

That's not true.

The people didn't chose me out of faith or ideals.

The people chose me because of their interests.

And I represent those interests.

You're speaking like you're still important.

But you're not fit to represent anyone.

You're what's rotten about this country.

It's not my fault.

I was blackmailed too.

I'm all alone now I've been abandoned.

I will speak I will tell everything.

About everyone of them But you won't turn on me, will you? Will you? Stay back.

Oh no, it's horrible.

Don't say anything to anyone about what you heard in there.

Otherwise you'll be in danger.

And they will no doubt change the drop off point.

Don't say anything for the time being.

It'll give me a bit of a head start.

Okay.

Okay.

It's the only chance that we have.

He realized that his chest had blood on it And so, the little bird went swimming in a river that was near here, and it dove into the water, but its chest was still red.

And so it returned to its nest.

And what did it see there? It saw that all the little birds in its family, which were just as grey as it was, also had red marks on their chests.

Mother, when will we get to Sicily? I'm tired.

Don't worry, we'll be there soon.

For now, listen.

Those little birds are god's little darlings, and we call them robin redbreasts.

Grandpa, why was mum k*lled? Do you know why? You know why, don't you? They didn't want to get your mother.

were after the old monk, your mum had nothing to do w Who was it? Why do you want to know? Because I want them to pay for all the pain that they've caused.

You're not to get involved in such things.

Grandpa, tell me who k*lled my mother.

Tell me.

I'm begging you.

Tell me if you know! The sea is so beautiful in autumn.

I'm tired.

I have the feeling that one of these days that one of these days my old ticker will stop working.

If you leave me as well I will get really angry! I'm not so worried about dying.

I'm ready.

The only thing that I would regret is seeing everything that I've built disappear as well.

It took a lot of work to build.

It took a lot of pain.

And sometimes, it even took humiliation, to make sure that it was not all lost.

The bank has faced many great dangers, even in recent times.

So.

I don't want to die before I am sure that it won't all die with me.

I hope that you understand what I'm saying to you.

I want you to take over from me.

But I I wouldn't even know where to start, Grandpa.

Yes, I know that.

I will help you.

You'll see.

It will all be easy.

You have responsibilities, Giulia, like your father did, like I did.

And responsibilities come before feelings.

Grandpa, I don't want to let go of my feelings.

Our hearts have very little space.

One pain is replaced by another.

A person that we thought that we loved is replaced by another.

When you get a toothache, your stomachache goes away.

That's all you need to know to be wise, there's nothing more to it.

If that's right, I don't want to be wise.

I don't want to forget my mother's death and I don't want to lose Corrado.

Ah, Rosaria.

I wish I had your skin.

And you wish you had my money.

People are silly things, we are never content.

Yes, come in.

What is it Salvo? Any news? I have some good news and some bad news.

The goods will arrive in two days they got past the border without a problem.

Tell me the bad news.

It's Corrado Cattani.

We had a phone call from Rome.

Mattinera's secretary said that Cattani went to the professor's office the other day.

Cattani.

Him again.

Get rid of that portrait.

For the time being I'm still alive.

And take away those other pictures.

Art is distracting.

If you would like to take a seat in the conference room, we have prepared some light refreshments.

We didn't come to the bank for refreshments.

We came to show my granddaughter the terminals, the records, the money exchange, and everything else.

And I don't have much time.

Do you understand what's on the screen? Yes, we're, we're buying shares on all the European markets and it seems to me that we're paying a lot for them.

Precisely.

In fact we're buying them for twice the market price.

But why? Well, it's not that easy to explain.

We are, simultaneously, the buyers and the sellers.

Yesterday we put them on foreign markets at a very low price and we had them bought by our foreign banks.

Then, those banks resold them at a price which was a lot higher than the real market price.

We are losing money at our central bank, but making it in our subsidiaries overseas.

Why? It's a way to export capital overseas without paying tax.

That's exactly right.

But, is that legal? Is it okay to do that? We are doing it.

Are you free? Yes.

Take me to the police headquarters.

Everything is going perfectly.

Perhaps even a little too perfectly.

How can you say that? Why did the drop off have to happen here in Sicily? Because it's our place.

Like this house, this champagne, like this charming girl.

You will have your eleven percent and your position on the board as soon as the cargo is handed over.

And Yfter will have made a lot of money.

Would you like a drink? No thank you.

I don't drink.

Was there something else? Actually.

There was one other thing.

You know that someone got wounded and we've been doing some cleaning up.

And there's been an infection, just when we thought we'd cleaned up the whole mess.

And this infection has already bothered us before, it has bothered us enough in the past few years, and it has created a gangrene.

So, we have now decided to amputate it, to sterilize the area.

We're going to get rid of it once and for all.

Does that seem like a good idea to you? No, I don't know what you are talking about.

I am talking about Cattani.

It was him that was harassing poor Mattinera.

And even though he didn't talk, he ended up in a ditch.

You've already decided that throwing him on a pile of dirt is the only way to get rid of him, haven't you? I don't like your methods, Terrasini.

But I'm useful to you.

You have to admit that.

Don't you forget that my granddaughter Giulia is very fond of you.

That's why I wanted to talk to you first.

Out of respect.

If it's really necessary, do what you have to do.

But keep it away from Giulia.

Of course we will be very careful not to get her involved.

There's no need to worry.

Your granddaughter is sacred to us.

Goodbye Captain Cattani How are you? Good.

What, you've gone and grown a moustache? Yeah you remember, Captain Alteo always said that guys like me either leave the force or grow a moustache.

Besides, my wife likes it.

You're married? Yeah, time goes by, Captain.

Who is in my job now? Captain Di Venanzo.

Oh.

I need to speak to him.

Would you like me to come with you? No thanks.

It was a great to see you.

Nice to see you too.

Goodbye.

Why are you telling me all this? After all that has happened? I mean, what if I'm in the mafia.

I don't have any other choice.

If you are with them, I'll be dead within a couple of hours.

But if you are not, then maybe you can help me.

How? I want to rejoin the force.

Straight away.

You know, Cattani.

I am only a captain because I have been around for so long.

For years I worked in the passports' office.

A little while ago I thought about leaving it all behind going somewhere else, living a private life.

Then, what you did, your men, your family, convinced me to stay on Why? Because I would like to win this w*r too.

But I haven't won anything yet.

So, shall we try together? Okay.

I'll contact the Ministry.

In the meantime, you'll work under the judges that are running this investigation.

And it would be a good idea for you to meet Judge Venturi immediately Judge Venturi? Yes, do you know him? Yes, but I didn't know that he was here.

He asked for a transfer, which the mafia wasn't happy about.

Anyone who chooses to come here of their own accord scares them.

In fact, a couple of days after he arrived here, he discovered a b*mb under his house.

So, we moved him and his family to the barracks.

To the barracks? The accommodation is not that great, but at least they're safe.

Anyway, you'll see for yourself.

It's like a fort.

After you.

Who are they? They're the judges' kids.

They live here in the barracks.

Oh, I see.

This way.

Thank you.

Yes.

Just a moment.

Well they could have at least given you a secretary.

Cattani! How are you? Well I never! What a nice surprise.

How on earth did you end up here? This is pretty much my home town.

You, on the other hand.

I told you that I was going to get myself transferred, do you remember? To here? It seems like we were destined to meet again.

And perhaps it's best that a man like yourself, who is always in trouble, should end up here sooner or latter.

We're well protected here.

I didn't come here for protection, I came for reinforcements.

I have some unbelievable things to tell you.

Are you sure that it was Cattani? I see.

We'll wait for him then.

When he leaves the barracks don't let him out of your sight.

Off you go.

Back to work.

Ah, Rosaria.

Come here, make yourself pretty so I can take you out.

Today is a great day! The fruit is mature and we're harvesting it.

Take off my slippers.

What's going on Giulia? Don't you want to play anymore? What are you thinking about? About the bank's position.

I didn't know that things were as bad as you've told me.

The Hong Kong branch is a problem, but we will fix things up through a complex process.

Through the process that dad didn't want to do? Yes.

And why didn't he want to do it? Your dad didn't like the idea that when he won, others lost.

He didn't want to hurt others.

He was right.

No he wasn't.

It's the wrong attitude for those who are powerful.

Many people think that they are powerful.

Manufacturers, newspaper editors, politicians, the m*llitary.

But it is us who are truly powerful.

Who have true power.

And money.

It's all here, in those rooms, in the office of the head of the bank You are going to have power.

But, if you want to keep it, you'll have to be different to your father.

Listen grandpa, I don't think that I'm different to dad.

I don't think that I can be like you.

I'm old, Giulia.

Soon you will inherit all our riches.

Then you'll join a world that nobody really understands.

A world which the press speaks rarely about.

Because very few people know about it, and the few that do usually can't speak about it because they're also involved in it.

They live in this secret world which controls the future of our country.

It's a little like a big chessboard, with very few pieces.

And without the pawns.

And you will be the Queen.

Take her.

Excuse me.

Mr.

Cattani is here.

Corrado! Giulia! What is it? Don't go out with him.

Why not? Because I want to speak with him first.

Okay, grandpa.

Giulia.

Corrado.

At last.

You were away for so long.

Way too long.

Come on.

Come here.

Tell me everything.

Where are you staying? Where are you living? For the time being, I don't live anywhere.

Will you go to a hotel? No, I'm staying In the barracks.

With lots of policemen, judges, their families.

Why are you staying in the barracks? Because I'm a policeman.

Don't you remember? I've returned to the fold.

Me too.

My grandfather says that I have to look after the bank.

And what do you think about that? I don't know.

I don't really want to talk about it.

The important thing is that you are here.

That we're together I was I was bad.

I don't know why.

I was convinced that we'd never see each other again.

I was desperate.

Listen.

Let's get out of this place.

Let's go.

I don't want to stay with grandpa any more.

Things used to be better between us, when we used to call each other, play chess games without an end.

Things have changed.

I don't know.

All he speaks about now is money, about what I have to become, about my family responsibilities.

I want to make love.

Shall we? What does he want you to do? He wants me to join the board of the bank.

He's already organized a meeting.

When is it? In five days' time.

Why is it in five days time? Because he has to get involved in some very important business.

I think that he has to look after a very delicate financial operation.

Corrado Corrado What is it? What's wrong? What are you thinking about? Tell me.

Tell me.

Come on.

About you and I.

What does that mean? I'm thinking about the world that you live in.

I hate it.

I hate it because it's a world which hurts people.

But it has nothing to do with you.

Why did you decide to come back here? You seem to have a lot of enemies still here in Sicily.

I lost everything here.

And I intend to get it all back here You really are stubborn.

And perhaps a little too honest for your own good.

I used to be stubborn too, but, over time, I have changed.

I won't change.

But you're going to have to let go of something.

And when I say that, I'm talking about Giulia.

I will not give her up.

Giulia is in love with me.

And I am in love with her.

And that's how it is, whether you like it or not.

You don't have to give up anything for me.

You're not the right man for Giulia.

You want to know why? It's because you've always been alone, You're like a wolf, hungry and desperate.

And you like it.

Your life will always be that way.

But my granddaughter cannot share such a life.

In a few days Giulia will be elected to the board of the bank.

And then she won't have any room left for you.

Maybe you should ask Giulia what she thinks.

Well? Or should we sort out everything between ourselves, sort it out between men, like things used to be done? I'll speak to Giulia.

And so will I.

You should do it soon, you don't have a lot of time.

Why not? What's going to happen? Things are going to happen to you that you wouldn't even believe.

Maybe you can't either.

Captain, I've been informed that there are some strange movements going on outside.

It seems that there are men waiting to k*ll you.

I might be able to help you.

But I'm warning you, this is my last favour.

I'm doing it for Giulia.

I don't want to see her suffer.

I'm asking you to do likewise.

The mafia is after your head, Captain Cattani, and it will have it sooner or later.

Don't get Giulia involved in your stupid battle.

So, have you finished speaking? Or is there more to talk about? Are you going to do what I've asked you? What is it? There are people waiting for me outside.

They are waiting to k*ll me.

What? What do you mean? Your grandfather has decided to help me, People don't help me often so I better make the most of it.

Grandpa! What's going on? Who, who are these people? It's my old enemies.

And it seems that they're your grandfather's new friends.

The Mafia! Grandpa.

Is it true? Is what he's saying true? Is it? It's true.

In fact, he just offered me a deal.

My life in exchange for a promise that I'd never see you again.

What? I don't understand.

What are you talking about? Have you all gone crazy? Tell me what's going on! What a hero! What heroic words and actions.

He's like a chameleon, aren't you? Don't listen to him, Giulia.

I can explain everything.

I don't want to hear your explanations.

I want to know how he is going to get out of here.

Salvatore will take him out through the back gate.

Okay.

Come on Corrado, let's go.

Giulia! Giulia Giulia! You can't, Grandpa! Help me Corrado.

It's nothing.

Grandpa Don't worry about me.

What's wrong? It will go away soon.

Giulia.

Tano You know what to say to the men that are outside.

And you, Giulia, stay here.

Don't leave me.

Don't go with them.

Don't go.

Stay with me.

Don't worry.

Stay with him.

I'm ready.

Thank you.

I'll come back for you.

Stay behind me.

Stop.

You can all go home.

Tell your boss that Mr.

Nicola Antinari sends his greetings.

Do you mind if I don't say thank you? There's no need to.

We did it for Giulia, not for you.

From now on they can do whatever they want with you.

You're of no interest to us now.

See you later Mr.

Cattani.

See you in the afterlife.

Go and lie down young lady.

Your grandfather is out of danger.

Have you called a doctor? He will feel better after a good night's rest.

Luckily it was a false alarm.

Will you stay by his side? Of course.

Tano.

Why do you spend your life waiting on an old man? It can't be much fun.

To learn.

Radio 18 and 19, confirm that the roadblock has been set up.

The roadblock has been set up.

Let us know if anything happens.

Keep us regularly updated.

From the little information that we have, we know only that it's carrying m*llitary goods.

But when and where it will arrive we don't know.

Captain, what checkpoints are you going to be operating? Well, we're conducting roadblocks here, here and here.

And we're also checking ships which arrive from countries which are known to have drug trades.

We're also exchanging information with the army.

We're going through the port master's books with a fine tooth comb to check for ships that arrived and unloaded but haven't left the port.

We're also stepping up ship inspections on the premise that there are some irregularities in the port's register.

A little further forward.

Why are these checks going on? Why are there so many police here? You said that this port was safe.

The goods will arrive soon, calm down.

They are checking all of the ships that arrive and leave.

All cargo is being checked.

You should bribe people, buy them Why don't you do something like that? Unfortunately, things are now in the hands of a judge that won't A judge? Why don't you k*ll the judge? It's impossible.

He's too well protected.

So, what do you propose? What are you going to do? I had an idea, I've already changed the plan.

Tell me.

I've organized things so that the goods will arrive by truck and be put in a place where no

-one will think of looking.

I'm convinced.

Thank you.

I am convinced that checking trucks is not enough.

It's a million dollar deal.

And you don't put a million dollars on two or three trucks.

Perhaps they are carrying anti

-aircraft missiles.

Or, for example, microchips, Or, I don't know, Or perhaps the goods will arrive by sea.

Perhaps, but this port only houses ships that don't have enough space to carry such a quantity of arms.

All of the ships in it are too small.

We have to work this out and fast.

I am sure that the goods will leave from here within the next two days.

Yes, but unfortunately we haven't found anything yet.

Let me try the port.

Do you know why I hate the mafia, Tano? Because they have a strange logic.

It's half crazy.

They way they do things is so strange, it's like, it's like using blood to stick stamps on letters instead of glue.

And that a man like, Terassini, should join my board of directors If you want to know if a horse is any good, you have to back it.

He's going to ruin everything.

I'm sure.

Do you think that you could do better? I think so.

I think that I've done a lot for you.

Now I'd like you to give me the chance to show you my eternal loyalty Are you making me an offer, or a request? Both.

Are you feeling better? Yes, tomorrow I will be ready to face you.

I don't want to fight you.

I just want to understand.

And I want you to understand.

It's only fair.

From now on, grandpa, no more lying.

I won't forgive you if you do.

The car has just gone past.

I'm guessing you must be Tano.

I've heard a lot about you recently.

The other day someone compared you to a young horse, who, at the tender age of one, is ready to gallop already.

You're biting at the bit, are you? I suppose that nothing tried, nothing lost.

I k*lled a man not so long ago.

With my own hands.

I know.

I know.

All of that seems so far away.

As though this place were on another planet.

When in reality, it's the center of the earth.

News from all around the world comes here.

Even news about the judge that is hunting me down.

What did you come here to propose? Direct access to Nicola Antinari's international banking system.

But we already have that.

Terassini.

He's a good man.

We have treated him like a son, and he has grown up nicely.

Nicola Antinari Is going to pull the plug.

He doesn't want to be involved with a man like Terassini.

All he wants to do is to play with six digit figures, and he'll cut you off from all of it.

You're arrogant.

Like all young people.

Banks are useful for us, you know that.

It is good for us to be on their boards, make decisions with them, invest our capital all over the world.

Terassini is a good lawyer, he knows more than me, and more than most other people.

Perhaps, but it seems that he's still not good enough for Nicola Antinari.

And you, who's recommending you? I am.

And what guarantee can you offer? My life.

Whenever you want it.

If I make a mistake, you can come and get me.

But I'm also offering you years of experience working closely with a man who has taught me everything.

How to move money, how to transfer it overseas, how to shift it from one bank to another, I know how to play on more than one table at a time, what the stock market is doing, how to buy and sell the same stocks and at the same time how to make them increase to ten times their value.

I can find investments for your earnings, and I can shift enormous amounts of cash in markets around the world.

I need to see you close up.

I've never been that interested in what a man has to say.

I've always needed to look him in the eyes.

Sit down.

Not there.

Here, in the light.

Do you like my collection? It looks like a wall covered in tears.

My father started collecting them a long time ago.

He did someone a favour, a big favour, and they gave him this heart.

It has brought a lot of luck to my family.

Things used to be different You didn't used to need to do much to become a respected man.

A man needed only to be brave or strong to be respected.

Now you need money to be respected.

The more money you have, the more respect you get.

But you already know this, don't you? Yes.

I think so.

Okay, Tano.

We'll give you a chance.

You play for us.

But, you too have to send me a gold heart.

You've risked enough already today and so far you've been lucky.
