Opening-night jitters? He's scared, Harold.

That's what it is.

Shut up! We got no reason to be scared.

We're not punk kids anymore.

We're special.

We're gonna own this city.

And here are the keys.

Whoo-hoo-hoo! Yeah! Yo.

Thanks, Harold.

You know, I never liked that name.

I need something more appropriate now, likeBullwhip! Whoo-hoo! You're up.

Unh! You keep watch.

[Whirrrrr]

[Whirrrrr]

Huh? Unh! Ah! Heh heh heh! Hey! Aah! Uhh! Raah! Whoa! Raah! Aah! Aah! Raah! Raah! Uhh! Ooh! Oh! [Sirens]

Cops! I don't want this to turn into a w*r, not tonight.

[Sirens continue]

Unh Oh [Groans]

[Pounding on door]

[Pounding]

What's this? [Groaning]

This wasn't part of the bargain.

You said-- the bargain's anything I want it it be.

Understand? [Groaning]

How's it feeling? It hurts! That's how it's feeling.

[Click]

Ugh! Ahh One of your servo motors is missing.

So get me another one! I will, but you can't just leave them laying around.

Just fix it, will ya? And don't worry about stuff that isn't any of your business.

Looks like the servo motors in my costume.

Exactly like them.

I bought yours years ago from a doctor who specialized in prosthetics for people who'd lost limbs.

His name was Peter corso, and this is definitely one of his.

Looks like the good doctor isn't so good anymore.

I'm gonna do some tests on this motor.

There's something odd about the circuitry.

And I suggest you go make a house call.

[Creaking]

You should be able to stand now.

Looks like I'm in working order again.

All of me.

You'll understand if I don't invite you to stay for coffee and cake? So how you doin', alright? Yeah.

Ready to rock 'n' roll.

Guess we got off on the wrong foot tonight, doc.

Maybe this'll make it up to you.

You know what I want, and it's not jewels.

Then you're just going to have to be patient.

For how much longer? Until I'm sure we don't need you anymore.

[Gasp]

Why'd you do it, doctor? Money, thrills? You wouldn't understand.

Try me.

It's a long story.

Unh! Uhh! [Groaning]

[Sounds of traffic]

Ahh Oh Oh, no.

This is what an idiot looks like, Max.

I let him trick me, and then while I was out, he moved his whole operation.

I'm never gonna find him.

Ter, you're forgetting something.

While you were unconscious, he had a perfect chance to get rid of you for good, but he didn't.

What's that tell you? That--that maybe he's not such a bad guy after all.

Let's find out.

[Keying]

It's not as nice as your old place, but at least you've got room to expand.

I can't even go back to my own home now.

Could be a lot worse, couldn't it? Couldn't it? [Telephone rings]

[Ring]

Hello? [Man talks indistinctly]

I thought I made it clear last night.

I'm taking a leave of absence! [Talking]

An emergency? [Talking]

Both legs, you say? Did you get an address? Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

I'll see what I can do.

What was that about? A chance to do some good For a change.

Hello? It's Dr.

corso.

You called for me? Terry, weakly: In here.

My service said that both of your legs were-- [gasp]

Oof! [Sobbing]

No tricks this time.

They're gonna k*ll her now.

They're gonna k*ll her.

Who? Who are they gonna k*ll? My wife.

It's the truth! Why else do you think I'd be helping those punks? This her? Yes.

April.

April changed my whole life.

Have you ever met anyone like that? I spent 20 years working day and night to help other people, but my own life was empty.

All I had was my work.

Dr.

corso? Ahh Huh? Good morning.

I'm your new nurse--April.

I thought you might want some breakfast.

Flaky flakes? They're for children, aren't they? I have a feeling you've never tried them, even when you were a child yourself.

It's that obvious, huh? Mmm! Not bad.

See what you've been missing? That's how it started With a bowl of cereal.

It only took me a couple of weeks to make up my mind about her.

April, could you please clean this? [Gasp]

Ah! [Thud]

Mm It was about 6 months ago that I met Harold.

That's what he called himself back then, not "bullwhip.

" I'd done a wrist replacement for him, but he wanted more.

You know, doc, when it comes to mixing flesh and metal, you're a genius.

You could probably do things other doctors never even dream of.

I'm serious.

You could use your prosthetics to make people stronger, faster, more dangerous.

Are you saying what I think you're saying? With the right partners, you could get very rich.

Not interested.

I've already got everything I want.

Everything.

About a week later, I came back late from an emergency call.

April? April? [Gasp]

April? April! Hiya, doc.

Still think you've got everything? Argh! Where is she? What did you do with her? Easy, easy.

April's with a friend of ours.

All you gotta do is give us a little surgery, and we'll hand her back.

How do I know she's even alive? [Ring]

[Ring]

Hello? April, it's me.

Are you ok? I'm so scared.

Where are you? That's all you get.

Now, do we have a deal? What guarantee do I have you'll give her back? Come on, doc.

If I trust you to fool around with my insides, you really oughta trust me.

April.

And there's the moon in the background, like that old song, April moon? Yeah.

It was our song.

Any idea where they're keeping her? None.

I can understand how you feel, but to let those monsters loose-- there's no way to stop 'em.

Oh, yes, there is.

I slipped fail-safe devices into all 4 of them.

Once I get April back, I'm going to activate them With relish.

Fail-safe devices? How would you get close enough to switch them on? They're not activated by switches.

What then? I'm not gonna tell you.

I don't want you risking April's life in some crazy rescue attempt.

But-- [whirrrrr]

You followed me.

Thank God! It was a trap.

You may be a good doctor, but you sure don't have any street smarts.

We'll take it from here.

[Wham]

Uhh! Oh Unh! Haah! Back, everybody.

It's my turn.

Unh! Oh [Coughing]

Look at him run from us.

Now the city really is ours.

Yeah! Alright! Yeah! Ha ha ha! Whoo hoo hoo! You see where the doc went? No.

I lost track of him in all the confusion.

He probably got scared and ran off.

He'll be back at the warehouse soon enough.

I bet he'll be more careful next time.

It worked.

I'm following them right now.

This might help you.

Remember when I said there was something odd about the servo? It was a cutoff circuit.

Yeah, I know.

It's a fail-safe switch.

But did you know it's voice-activated? So that's how you stop 'em, some kind of code phrase.

Any idea what it is? It would have to be something not likely to be heard in casual conversation, and it's probably words that have special significance to the doctor.

That's the best you can do? I'm only human.

I keep forgetting.

Yeah, that was schway.

Who's thirsty? Grab me a can.

Still no answer at the doc's place.

He'll be back.

He's no fool.

I figured you'd try this.

That's why I followed you from the hotel.

I didn't believe for a second you'd really run from them like that.

It was just a trick so you could tail them and find April.

Looks like it's working so far, doesn't it? You gonna tell me the secret word? So you figured it out.

It doesn't matter.

I told you before.

I don't want you trying to rescue her.

If anything happened to her, I don't know what I'd-- April: So what'd ya bring me? Hope it's something good.

Just a little number I picked up this morning.

Bet the doc never gave you anything like this.

He could never afford to.

You got anything for me? No! No! [Sobbing]

[Muffled wails]

[Clanging]

Somebody's out there.

There he is.

Hyah! Aah! Raah! Unh! Hey, mind if I cut in? Be my guest.

Finish 'im off.

[Whirrrrr]

April moon.

Aah! [Grunting]

Hyah! April moon.

Aah! Raah! April moon.

Aah! Aah! [Grunting]

And when I went back to the cellar, the doctor was gone.

I guess I shoulda spent more time lookin' for him, but my heart wasn't in it.

I understand.

What about April and bullwhip? Gone, too.

Both of 'em.

They'll be back.

They always come back.

Tell me something, though.

Does bullwhip know that the doctor saw him with April? No way.

By the time he came out of the townhouse, I'd already put the doctor in the cellar.

Then maybe bullwhip won't be coming back.

Why do you say that? I sure am glad you didn't leave town, doc.

I couldn't.

Oh, yeah! April.

Don't worry.

She's doing fine, can't wait to see you again.

Uh-huh.

You do this one last thing for me, and she's all yours.

Uh-huh.

But don't just repair me.

Make me stronger, less vulnerable, too.

And don't hold back, understand? I understand.

[Whirrrrr]

No holding back.

[Whirrrrr]
